I just finished a 2 month bicycle tour on my Surly Disc Trucker in British Columbia Canada and I visited an archipelago known as “Haida Gwaii”. I cycled 600kms on 2 different islands,.. My initial plan was to stay for 2 weeks but that turned into 3 weeks due to about 12 days of heavy rains. According to the islanders this spring was much colder and wetter season than normal.. To get to Haida Gwaii I took an 8 hour ferry from the port of Prince Rupert which is linked the the national highway system and other ferry connections.

Haida Gwaii has a small road network and my trip was a mix of pavement and gravel.. I really slowed my pace down doing a lot of easy 50km rides. Overall there wasn’t much elevation gains/losses or heavy winds on my trip so it was quite easy..

Food costs were much higher than on the mainland due to the cost of shipping so my panniers were fully loaded on arrival which helped offset some of these extra costs..

Ferry cost was about $58 CAD ($43 USD) for myself and the bicycles was free on the ferry.

Beautiful part of the world. I kayaked the lower half of the islands last year. Serenity level was incredibly high!
