what clothing the Riders pack for the tour to France the race is three weeks long and they encounter all kinds of weather conditions from wind rain high heat and even snow every year clothing continues to evolve and improve so to find out the kind of stuff that Riders are taking to this year’s race we spoke to one of the best Tor France Riders Mato Jorgenson of Team Vima Lisa bike we didn’t have of time with Mato as he was busy training with the team at a pre- tour altitude camp but we really wanted to share with you what he had to say cyclists love kit Mato but what kit are you taking to the Tor of France yeah this year we have a a special one well every year actually with this team since we’re uh we’re a yellow team at the tour they make us change change out the jersey for something special so it’s a nice opportunity for the the marketing team to go crazy well and this is it this is it yeah looks fantastic it really does I’m super impressed actually I think uh yeah they did a really good job it does look really good but but what we really want to know is how how many pairs of shorts do you take like you have like 21 pairs of shorts like one for each day or I wish I wish I wish uh no it sounds like we have um yeah we have a lot it sounds like I think we have seven yeah seven different skin suits so different Road suits I’m mainly a guy who races in a skin suit in the road Racers I like the feeling a bit better and H they say it’s more Arrow so I believe them um and um yeah so I think we have seven Road suits and we have a few different kind we have like a a mesh one I think here I have the normal one this is like just the normal Fabrics Arrow Fabrics all around with like ribs so that yeah that’s the same as the arrow Jersey on that one has rib sleeves and just normal fabrics and then we have a version that has then mesh here on the front um for like the hot days and then we even have one kind of in the middle I think with just thinner regular Fabrics so yeah a lot of different options for the road suits and I think we have then six pairs of bib shorts which yeah I’m don’t know even know if I’m going to use bib shorts maybe that’s that that’s interesting that was going to be my next question is there is there a time when you do wear bib shorts and J actually the only time in a race is when I’m in a leader Jersey so like uh Rider Jersey or mountains Jersey or the leader Jersey um unless they give me a skinu which they didn’t do so I had to wear the team bib shorts actually almost didn’t bring a pair of bib shorts to doof but thankfully I did yeah well well that’s I think people would be surprised to hear that that basically now jerseys are almost no more Road suits kind of the thing it depends on the person still I still see some old old old school guys like the like the bibs in Jersey combo which is also good classy what about socks then I mean how many pairs of socks you take I actually don’t know um you can’t count them too many no a lot of pairs of socks yeah especially with white socks you want to change them out so as often as possible always keep them fresh you can I also am a guy who washes my whites separate even with the team so I have a white laundry bag and a and a team laundry bag which is really like the ultimate touch make sure does it get washed then is I wash the whites every day so so every day you you give like a bag and then the swan take it away and then they they give it you back every day yeah and me and now it’s catching on if you guys have the white laundry bag so we they do like a whole white load and a whole uh regular load just to keep the socks white and are the socks Arrow socks yeah we have both we have both we have these these are just normal Fabric and then we have a I don’t have them with me but we have a pair of Arrow is there a is there a time when you do or don’t wear them like the arrow ones or uh actually I mostly wear the AOS socks in yeah while racing but otherwise I wear these in training and on the rest days for sure I’ll just wear normal socks um I can’t remember I think at DOI I wore the AOS socks basically every day uh maybe if you’re wearing shoe covers I wear the normal socks under shoe covers but well I like to hear that you embracing Aeros socks man after my own heart what what else um have you got though cuz the weather unfortunately can be pretty changeable yeah so you know you’re going into the high mountains you got the Bonet yeah so here I don’t have it with me but I have interestingly we have a few pairs of um of arm warmers this is new for me this year with uh with augu we have summer arm warmers which are actually really nice they’re like a light mesh material and like yeah it’s for days where you want like something just a little bit to I would even start with them mostly like in a race you want if you have a long 10K neutral or something you start with arm warmers just because yeah you’re cold when you’re going super easy you start cold and I usually just have a pair of arm warmers on to keep like yeah just to keep my arms from having like a goosebumps you know and you can just rip them off super quick and put them in your pocket those are the summer ones and then normal arm warmers are just a constant key if it’s if you’re in the mountains they really nice how they’re all matching with the the Jersey yeah yeah it’s going to be a nice kit I think I think it’s really nice I really like it so in terms of like jackets and things like that is there like a piece of kit that you just can’t live without that’s like you know your favorite thing there’s two things I would say with there’s a jacket new to me this year with auu called the moto jacket um and it’s basically like it looks like a leather jacket has like a shiny uh exterior and it’s like the best rain jacket I’ve ever worn it’s basically like a you put it on and you’re just sealed off completely from the outside world try and get one of these yeah they’re really nice but then the other thing I wear a lot is um they have a Polar Tech vest which is like a like the furry one on the inside exactly has some some stuff that insulates and it’s really nice for descending like you take it on the top of a climb and you put it on and for yeah find usend it’s and it’s easy to get on and off being in a vest as well yeah nice right well thanks so much for for telling us about your kit and what you’re going to be taking as the Tour all the best hope it goes well yeah thank you so much right I hope you’ve enjoyed our chat with Matteo and if you have any questions about the kit that the Riders take to the Tour of France find them down in the comment section below we’ll do our best to answer them and if you’re interested in the kind of training that the Riders are doing at this altitude camp in Tena before the Tour of France well we’ve got a video that goes into it in detail so make sure you check that out I’m going to go now oh no bloody hell love you bye

    1. I started watching GCN to learn more about the sport my partner loves. Now I’m watching more GCN than my partner 🤣. I’ve been loving the various challenges, the warmth, and the humour.

An unrelated question to the video (sorry), but I’m hoping the community could advise- what can I do for my partner whose neck hurts when cycling for long distances. Does anyone have any tips or tricks or suggestions?

    2. The thumbnail made me think this would be about riders that don't wear padding when it really just means they wear expensive skinsuits vs. bib shorts 😂

    3. I just saw the AliExpress version of their jersey show up. I doubt it's the same stuff, looks like they just stole the pictures from somewhere. Funny though.
