you had been waiting for this moment for a long time you had already been on the toour of France but you finally have a stage victory in the world’s greatest race what does it mean for you yeah first of all I would say uh thanks God for everything for uh give me all the strength support and uh yeah [Music] [Music] yeah you know it’s uh since I start cycling T France was yeah I’m never dreaming to be part of T France but now yeah I can’t believe it to win in t France second year in the big bunch Sprint yeah for me was unbelievable I just want to say thank you to my family my wife all thean and African we must be proud now we are really part of the big races and then we success a lot of uh victories so now it’s our moment it’s our time yeah I just want to say congrats also to my old team especially John Fran because uh we didn’t have a victory in France yet but now is our moment and yeah I’m super happy cuz this is a victory for you it’s a victory for Africa absolutely yeah this minut yeah it’s for all African congrats I would say yeah I’m just super happy today take us through that final kilometer uh beating the best sprinters in the world yeah normally today our plan is uh to give lead out for gin Tyson and also if it’s the circumstances really difficulty I need to try uh for myself so in the end our team really uh good good job but in the last 1K uh I lose the wheel of gerbin and then I just tried myself and yeah it was unbelievable to to win in front of the the fastest in the world for me was really yeah is really big motivate you’re making history enjoy the podium thank you thanks so much s p with a question there what an emotional interview that was I struggle to hold it together when I see that it means so so much not just to B gai but it’s the weight of history that comes with this the first black African to win a stage of the tour to France it’s a sea change you would hope at least Robbie and he knows that significance and where he’s come from to get into this sport is so much more difficult than from one of the cycling power houses of Europe for example yeah what it shows you that Talent comes from absolutely everywhere but bam G has been a guy who’s taken his chances grabbed him with both hands through throughout his quite short career from when he was an amateur finishing second at the World Championships when they’re in Belgium a few years ago but then winning at the jro winning hent wam they were firsts in their own right but think back two months ago in the jro he was in that really nasty crash massive gash on his hip um he limped out of the race and and it all looked to be going so badly for bam G that well where too from here because that’s a nasty injury eight weeks on he’s standing on the podium of the tour to France as a stage winner and his powers of recovery his resilience and just his pure talent and I what I find incredible about that is normally Riders on the podium in that situation or winners where they’re just full of Joys full of smiles it’s almost like he knows the weight of what that victory means and it’s sat with him and I don’t it’s just like you can’t express it enough it’s it seems much more emotional than what just pure happiness I think there’s such a depth to it that we won’t ever understand either I think as well he’s probably felt a lot of pressure because when he did win G evam that was two years ago and an awful lot of fuss was rightly Meed of that and he was celebrated he then went on to Wi a stage of the Italia and we’re assuming the inevitable Next Step Danny is a win at the tour to France wins at the tour to France Don’t Come Easy and so I feel like that this is two years on top of all of the preparation before that of course but while the pressure that’s been building on his shoulders externally finally able to shake that off a little bit yeah it’s the Pinnacle isn’t it you know gate won was such a huge Victory and like you say that pressure would have built and built and this is the ultimate so yeah I mean like Adam said I think looking at that interview there it’s just so emot for him he won’t be able to even believe it but what an inspiration as well for for so many coming through as to the resilience of a bike rider like Robie said I like the powers of recovery this day and age with like kids it’s unbelievable I honestly I had a saw KN once 6 months off exhausted just from standing up at the end every every two minutes literally I’m like flipping out and just need to lay down and back’s gone and everything these lck we we talked about the sort of significance sinking in for biniam gay and he will be instantly thinking back to everything he’s gone through over the last two seasons like you said since that jro win and he was on the scene as the next big thing and then it sort of didn’t happen but there’s been the champagne cork in the eye there was a a really nasty nasty crash remember where Walt fard crashed into this year and broke all the ribs and Stern bam G crash inura Flanders the season before really bad neck injuries broke himself all over the place that took him an entire season to get over and come back then he had another crash had another injury the crash and injury at the J so he sort of had one thing after the other after the other and he’s finally crawled up and out of it he like some sort of Robocop you think he’s completely busted into piece and he crawls that’s what makes these victories even sweeter isn’t it when a Rider’s got a store and it hasn’t been that just upward trajectory which I know doesn’t generally happen within an athletes career especially not bike riders but when there is that turbulence throughout the the seasons that he’s you know ridden so far it just makes it so much s and then the next one B pole in a Sprint I mean come on and then to the France win I mean he knows out well look you said it first an then again there’s bad luck and there’s bad luck there aren’t many riders who celebrate a huge Victory like a Jalia win pop themselves in the eye with the champ cour and then have to leave the race because of it remember no champagne on the podium France so that’s off the list he safe from that so yeah we we’ll we’ll leave that to the swan your at the team Hotel Le I think I want to let you know that Richard Hara P has ridden his way into the yellow Jersey will get the GC chat in just a moment
