RIP Presta and Schrader? Schwalbe reckons its “revolutionary” new Clik valve is set to become cycling’s new tyre inflation industry standard

    1. It depends on the fee Clik wants for each valve/tire. Shrader/Presta are mature and low in cost. Adding a $5 fee to each tire is a killer on a low end bike – less so on premium. Makers might not use it until is become open source after all patents expire.

Can’t say I have a problem with presta or schraeder, so I guess I might need to buy an adapter for this thing some day 😛

Do schwalbe tubes often get used in new bikes?

If anything, just switch over to Schraeder like pretty much all other inflatable things. This new valve is a solution in search of a problem.

      Noooooooooooooo.

There are so many competing standards for different parts on a bike – bottom brackets, freehub bodies, crank connectors and chainlines, etc. Presta is fine, and valves are one of the only parts of the bike with a single ubiquitous standard.

    5. Presta needs no force, you just screw it in, and the head is serviceable on decent tubes. Happy enough as a roadie on presta. Pumps with fixed heads much more difficult to use than pumps with heads on hoses and I bet the seals on this new malarkey fade after a duration anyhow.

    6. I know a lot of folks hate new standards, but I’m pretty excited about these. Prestas are more fiddly than they should be. Schroeder valves are a bit easier, but still leaky.

Will be great to have a high flow valve with positive engagement. Would happily spend $20-30 or whatever to convert my Presta bikes to this.
