I am finally not a LARPer anymore!

I did a trip through the Jura mountains, from Neuchâtel to Basel. I tried to follow the Jura MTB trail n°7, but the combination of constant rain + wet clothes + drenched rainfly + how-the-hell-is-my-sleeping-bag-wet-at-the-feet + under biking most of the MTB trails made this trip an overnight only, instead of a double-night in forest cabins, alone with cows and horses.

I loved the planned route, but I’m not skilled enough with my Fairlight SECAN and it’s 27.5 Race King 2.1 tires to make it really fun. Rick single trails were slippery, especially drenched in water.

I fucked the tent installation – I’ll have to dry it tonight, and wash the floor tarp. I should’ve thought about reading the instructions, I guess. I ended with the feet of the sleeping bag wet, but not much. Sleeping bag that was toasty (but I was sleeping with a hoody, a merino t-shirt, a wool underwear and the classiest merino pants I’ve ever seen).

Those dehydrated ready-meals are actually pretty good! And the MSR burner works pretty fast. And instant coffee is… instant.

I should’ve got a specific towel to dry the tent and other stuff. Which I bought this morning before deciding to speed toward Basel instead of going up another forest.

I have to buy a fast charger. I emptied the battery and an hour in a restaurant didn’t do anything.

    I shepherded cows!

Horses came to great me in the woods cabin, and one farted for a whole minute!

I met NO ONE, which is a feat in tiny Switzerland!

I have to get a better handlebar bag. I knew the Wizard.Works bags aren’t waterproof, but it was soaked with water. I’m so glad I brain farted on small garbage bags and took, like, 10 of them.

I am regretting not having done that second night right now. I’d have been miserable tomorrow, but the last leg would’ve been only 3h of riding toward Basel.

I swear I’m coming back later, especially to ride along the Doubs river. Maybe when it stops raining at 12°C.

Thanks for having listened to the most unorganized TED talk!

    1. > Jura MTB trail n°7

Do you mean the MTB route 3? Would make sense heading to Basel and I can’t think of or find a number 7.

      > I met NO ONE, which is a feat in tiny Switzerland!

That is actually surprisingly easy in the Jura. Outside of a few popular spots like the Creux du Van it is usually really quiet.
