This SIMPLE thing makes POWERFUL Ebikes Legal? ft. Crazybird Jumper
This is the Crazybird Jumper. A 750w ebike capable of reaching 30mph. Most would agree that this electric bike is not legal. But it comes without a throttle and is HARD limited to 15.5mph and therefore a much lower wattage. So does this mean the Crazybird jumper and other ebikes with similar features are also legal? Let’s take a look.

#electricbike #ebike #ebikes
hey holding it 38 mph oh you’re on my trainer oh buy out this is the crazy bird jumper a brilliant new ebike from crazy bird with some top spec gear and a very nice buang 750 W Motor paired with a more powerful than usual 52v battery now ordinarily a motor like that would be good for anywhere up to 30 mph however when reviewing the bike it was a different story you 28 and then it’s like [Applause] nah nah the bike actually comes with a physical speed limiter it also comes without a throttle installed but with a throttle in the Box this means you can happily ride around at legal assist speeds and without a throttle safe in the knowledge that the police will leave you alone but also knowing that you have more power than your average 250 water to get you up some hills or will they is a restricted ebike actually legal in this video we’ll take a quick look at the crazy bird Jumper in all its full speed Glory ahead of the full review which will be the very next video on the channel then we’ll delve into the ebike power laws once again in an attempt to work out if restricted ebikes are in fact road legal right okay I’m going good flat now ped is 5 24 mil an hour 25 so no power from me 26 27 then in a way it’s actually a good idea putting that little plug inside the bike that you got to physically undo to unlimit it because most of the time it’s just a case of unlimiting on the computer but then if someone wants to pull you over and they kind of know their stuff they might be like well you’ve just changed that on the computer haven’t you but if it’s fully limited you can then say look no this goes 15.5 M hour no faster and it’s the same as when you buy a moped mopeds are limited to 28 M hour but pretty much all of them can be unlimited to go faster than that it doesn’t make them illegal and we’re not talking like Chinese brand mopeds or anything we’re talking about any old moped that you get on the High Street you say on the High Street in your local showroom oh that smells nice so I got to Sunday Lane where we do all the hill climb tests I’m not going to show all of it but you’ll see that it easily gets up where other 250 watt bikes always fail in the review of the jumper we’ll compare how long it takes with the bike restricted and derestricted if this video has been been out for over a week then the review of this bike should be available right now right okay now we getting the speed up 16 17 obviously before it got limited there so we couldn’t get a much of a run up but we’re still topping out at 17 it’s pretty not going to be that much difference to be honest because most of the way up it won’t be going faster than that 14 going up to the stop sign 17 and stop so we’ve unlimited it fairly simple [Music] process so it looks to be top speed of about 28 M hour if you’re not going to put any effort in yourself which is pretty decent basically mop head speeds so all in all the review will be coming soon I was about to say some uh comments but ahead of the review I will say that it’s a nice bike and with the frontt not attached and with the speed properly limited you can rest assured that you got a very nice powerful for the hills but also legal ebike now it is worth noting that the motor in the jumper is more powerful than the legal limit of 250 WS maximum continuous power so is a restricted ebite legal if the motor is capable of sustaining a higher continuous wattage than 250 Watts well the law on the UK gov’s website states that the eapc or electrically assisted pedal cycle must be propelled only by the pedals if you disconnect the throttle then that is a tick or do what brands such as PIV do and use the throttle as a walk mode that goes 4 mph the law also states that the bike cannot assist the rider over 15.5 mph the bike is allowed to be pedaled faster than that but assistance must cut out a 15.5 now that brings its own problems but that’s not for this video the fact is that once an ebike is restricted it will no longer assist Above This painfully slow speed I know I know go by a moped ywn but anyway that is another tick now the speed and the no throttle are the simple Parts but what about the power let’s look at the wording must have a maximum power output of 250 W now it’s worth noting that this is most likely correct and the actual law is that it mustn’t have a maximum continuous power of 250 wats because of course pretty much all ebikes can output more power for brief periods when it accelerates or goes up a hill but when the jumper is restricted then the motor won’t be drawing massive amounts of power when traveling along the flat at a constant speed now I’m not a lawyer and I’m not going to get electrical equipment out to check but I do know that traveling along at a constant speed especially with pedaling does not require a lot of power from the motor especially since the motor will cut out at 15.5 mph anyway so surely a restricted ebike will actually be following this law too especially since the electric motor itself doesn’t really output any power power from the battery is pushed through it so what do you think as said before legal mopeds and 125cc motorbikes are all able to be derestricted to Output more power when restricted they’re legal for use on the appropriate license when destricted the moped is technically no longer a moped and would then become illegal for a 16-year-old to use or for someone to use it on a provisional car license the 125 motorbike if d-restricted would become illegal to be used on a provisional motorbike license this all leads me to believe that restricted ebikes are in fact legal especially when you consider big ebike Brands such as super 73 have their ebikes classed as 250 Watts they’re easily derestricted using an app and they’re sold by reputable High Street ebike stores I’d love to hear your opinions even if you do just want to tell people to buy a moped ebike law does seem to upset some people in more ways than one maybe you think a physical restrictor locked away in the bike like on the crazy bird jumper should make it legal but a simple computer or app restriction should not let us know we’ve got some awesome ebikes coming up including the first impressions of the Monstrous CWI CT 20s a full review of the enway x24 and the lanal leisi x3000 Max and also a mystery bike from enue and of course we’ve got the crazy bird jumper from this video which will be reviewed in the very next video on the channel it’s a lovely ebike we’ve gone into each of the three main ebike laws in Greater detail in the past and those videos will be linked in the descript description below but do check out the channel for lots of other ebike reviews and discussion so if you guys something from that video don’t forget to hit that thumbs up button and enjoyed it you can do that too feel free to subscribe if you want but you don’t have to I’m sure I’ll pop up again if you watch the whole thing and until next time thanks for watching ride safe

Still not legal with current ridiculous laws sadly. However, it seems that the po-po seem to be more concerned with the speed of the bike more than its power at least at the moment. So if you were to uprate the power so that it can gove you better acceleration up to the 15.5 mph pedal assist, and climb hills better, then that will not attract too much attention., as long as you are pedalling. However, if you do use a throttle with a more power that is currently not legal, be sure to move your legs a bit. You can also put a larger front sprocket so that when you do pedal, there is some assistance provided by your legs.
It'd be nice if the laws were more common sensical. Make it legal to go upto 30mph pedal assist or throttle only, but you must legally wear a helmet, and hold a provisional licence, and perhaps some kind of registration plate and cheap basic insurance. But then I guess a moped kinda has that category, or MSVA.
I just think that sensible people always seem to get villified and fined and taxed etc with regards to things like this. Legislations come out that affect sensible people more than the idiots that rides these things without due care and attention. These said idiots would pretty much not even think twice about taking a joyride in a stolen vehicle anyways, so these laws do nothing really other than cause problems and tax/fines for everyday joes just going to work etc.
The controller most have two blue wirea connect 15.5 mph I've got 1500wst on stand 50mph on road 42mph you run two blue wires through a switch 12 v so when on road or yes hide swich but so you can switch it when riding that restrict the bike it's better than stopping to connect the blue wires
about time the gov cracked down on ebikes and scooters
It cracks me up when I hear about Ebikes and Police. Police don't give a damn about Ebikes. Oh wait, This is UK . I'm watching this from The U.S. of A.
il give it about another 10 years and red tape registration will apply to all bikes including pedal cycles thats the way its heading and its not going to stop people need to start shouting is this another freedom we are going to be denied
Prove it.
Them flat tyres will suck power
hi great breakdown,
i purchased a Engwe M20 last year on ebay a few weeks later i recieved i message from Ebay saying DVLA had instructed them to advise me not to use it on the roads! like many in the comments i am disabled and the M20 is a god send and has changed my ability to get out and about.. is there any way to restrict the M20?
i have the twin battery version and its a 40 mile round trip to the closest town and i have more than enough range..
i have invested heavily with suspension brakes and seat upgrades..
and ill be dammed if im giving my M20 up..
Cargo or loaded bikes need a throttle for him starts and power for hols.
Surely an e legal scooter on the trial scheme would have a 250w 15.5mph limit .
But like a formula 4 or 3 car with the same engine as a normal car but less weight they would accelerate faster than an e bike.
However i do feel although a 20mph cut out would make sense only higher speeds should be offered on bikes with disc brakes and not for conversation kits to ensure the brakes are upto the speed output
I mean by this measure…. surely Bosch ebikes and such are also "restricted" illegal ebikes, without software or limiters, they would definitely peak over 250w and over 17.5mph. I think it's an arguable opinion on whether having something restricted by a factory by design, or restricted by yourself is any different from each other. I don't think it is!!! (if you're being honest that is, and thats what it boils down to here really). I'd like to think most people who know this level of detail about speed limiters and ebikes won't be the kind who ride recklessly on pavements etc and knock people down which is what this is intended to combat. I think it will be a very small percentage who even do these kind of "restrictions" and those few are among the more knowledgable of electric riders.
It's continuous over 250w in the UK. Both my perfectly legal Specialised ebikes can do more than 250w. Just not continuously. Throttle is illegal unless grandfathered.
not sure about where you are but here in Canada pedals are just the start of it……peddles, 500 watt and no faster then 32kmph unless you are peddling
Wouldn't do 30 with my weight on it , lol .
Thanks for the video. It seems your controller is the same as me. In fact, Crazybird Jumper got the same motor, screen, battery and maybe controller than Cyrusher Trax. But I have 24" wheels Trax, so maybe our controllers are different. And they also repeated the same "error" on their website, they both show 250w and 750w versions, but if I had a good picture of the Bafang hub, I would be able to confirm you it's a 1000w like me on the Trax, not a 750w. And a 1000w that is under exploited, because able of 8 turns per volt, and maybe tuned to 6 for you and me. I'm actually working on controllers programmation, and I need infos on ours. Is any Crazybird owner has already took a picture of the controller ? Thanks
22.22 30mph
just come here from sur ronster. 😄
Lol…🤡🌏🥴
You deserve to lose your drivers license for these practices!
I have owned and ridden several road legal e bikes. I de-restricted one briefly, and found it made no real difference to my tön riding, so I un modified it. I would not like to be involved in a „test case“ over the legality of your argument here.
Isn't the problem that if it can power itself above 15.5mph it becomes classed as a moped and needs tax, MOT, insurance, a licence to ride it and a crash helmet? It doesn't matter how it is powered – petrol or electric.
Man yall laws are super lame. My state us is 750w and we can have a throttle oh and 30mph and that'd even lame. My bike is 3500w 72b Mid-Drive and it's Hella fun.
New subscriber here, this sort of info is just what I have been looking for ,thank you.
Government advise:
https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
The actual legislation:
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1983/1168/made/data.pdf
Both contradict each other but neither say that the use of a throttle is unlawful.
Because of these contradictions, if someone was taken to court for using an e-bike on the road of whatever power with or without a throttle a decent defense solicitor would tear the prosecutor a new arsehole/sphincter.
Hi mate, can you confirm that this was the 250w version that you are showing in the video and not the 750w? Just checking if the 250w can be de-limited to do 28mph and comes with a throttle? Thanks for the video!
The maximum output from my feet is 1400W
Nah i think i will custom build my own 1000W battery assisted bike❤
I think have what you what, I astounded that this is even a problem for the police , is this what we really pay the police to do, pull bikes over, take me back 30 years when you could have fun
It isn't just the speed that they've made illegal (anything over 15mph)
But simply having a high powered motor, if it has more than 250w they can take it off you.
And the good ones have 1000w motors.
your going to fast for a bike you should be made to have tax mot and insurance and a number plate its that simple that is a moped a motorbike not an assist electric bike this makes me angry because if i hit you off your bike and its your fault whos paying???????????????????????????????????
All that should logically (not legally) matter regards restriction is that if stopped by police, you can demonstrate a 15.5 mph restriction exists at the time of the stop. Otherwise police are prosecuting based upon how you MIGHT break the law rather than because you did break the law – in other words guilty by circumstantial evidence. The ridiculousness becomes clearer when you consider we drive cars capable of well over 70 mph, but you only get prosecuted if caught doing over the speed limit…e-bikes should follow suit.
I dont think the stardard bike is type approved. The spec/bike needs to be approved for it to be road legal.
I must be the only person who thinks that 15mph on a bike is plenty.
I’d love to see powerful motors allowed so they can fly up hills at 15mph with no bother, and have amazing mileage capacity, but much over 15mph on a bike for me just feels like like the smallest thing goes wrong and you’re in trouble.
It’s easy to restrict the speed on a powerful motor and that should be allowed.
Old bill could easily tell if a bikes been messed with if a fat old knacker like me is pedalling at 25 mph lol. My average is about 7mph on pedal power alone lol
So every car on the road can go over the car speed limits of 30mph & 40mph so it makes no sense to have ebikes restricted. We just have to decide how to ride safely ourselves.
We need more people out there expanding the Karen's minds who are nine times boosted for something that doesn't exist 😂😂
Why do you want to brake the law all the time. All you are going to do is bring more regulation in, give it a rest!
The 15.5mph limit is pathetic as we all pedal faster than that, Even a non ebike will ride faster so the law needs reviewing.
this is reckless
how do i convert an ebike to be fully restricted on road and simple to unrestrict off road…farm tracks etc.
Anyone know how you get into the control panel settings on this crazy bird jumper ?
Im not saying everyone should go above the 250/15.5 rules with the Ebike but im sure if you do and apply a bit of common sense while riding you will be ok…. hooning down the road at 40mph using a throttle is asking for trouble, getting a bit of extra assistance upto the low 20s i cant see anyone batting an eyelid.
If ebike or moped removes restriction it is illegal. Its meant to be fulfilling laws from factory, if encountered illegal, confiscate and scrap. Or change laws to accept whatever.
an ebike i an ebike. that means 25kmh and 250w in Europe. going over that is tehnically illegal tho wo an offical registration, i doubt it will ever get checked unless you drive like a hoonigan. modifying a moped to output more power is probably illegal, even if the person driving it has an unlimited power motorcycle license. unless its done with verified parts and the moped is than registered as a 125cc.
Glad mine come with a PIN code to lock it to 15.5 1000w locked to 250 and stickers lol hills here are savage and has no probs
