Today specialized released the new Stumpy 15, what’s your thoughts about it?
Apparently there will be no evo version of it as they are more likely to unify the stumpy platform with 145mm of rear travel and 150-160mm on the front and make it like a purely trail bike.
The prices are insane starting at usd $5500 and they all come with sram eagle transmission (wireless) in every version.

It’s a great bike, but I am still jaw dropped at today’s prices. In 2006 I bought a bike that was top of the line everything for $5k and could have spent more. Now that’s the baseline. I know there’s been inflation and the materials are more complex, but it’s still jaw dropping at face value. It’s going to be a lot harder for kids to take up the sport because their parents can’t/wont’t pay these prices.

I like the look of it, aesthetically it’s a step up from the old stumpy IMO. I’m sure it’ll sell well.

The lack of mechanical options is… weird.

It’s expensive for what seems like minimal improvements over the last gen SJ Evo.

Being able to run coils is cool, though I didn’t see where they really touched on that aspect beyond simply offering a coil shocked configuration.

The metrics they use to diff the bike to the previous one are weird. “16.3% more bump force management” — the fuck does that mean, how can I quantify that in actual feel? I know they tried to use an example using rear wheel travel and force, but it wasn’t tangible to me.

Ultimately, I don’t think the bike is all that compelling for those who don’t live near rough, mountainous terrain. With the removal of the flex stay Stumpy all this new version makes me do is look closer at the new Epic Evo and Chisel if Specialized is my brand of choice.

    3. Travel numbers are what I’d want for my next bike but nothing else about it appeals to me. Spec, geometry, and looks are all disappointing

    4. I have 3 generations of Stumpy’s. I’ll be sitting this one out. I’ll stick with my Evo for the Gnar days, andy 2018 comp for the peddaly days

On paper I love it. Hopefully I’ll get to swing a leg over one at some point. Bikes are so good now, it’s hard to go wrong.

It’s just the stumpjumper evo. They actually killed off the standard stumpy and just made the evo the main stumpjumper.

It makes sense since the old stumpy was more XC oritented conpared to the si evo, but now with the epic evo basically a stumpjumper they had to push the stumpy to sj evo territory.

I like it but not worth changing from my 22 sj evo. I feel like the 22 evo frame is probably stronger/more rigid too with the part that goes over the shock down to the seat tube

I guess I’m curious about who the target audience is. Near the Denver area, I think the previous gen SJ’s are the most popular mountain bike I see. Granted, Spesh did have a blowout where they were marking them down almost 50%, so that may have helped.

That being said, given the price, you can get a top of the line YT Jeffsy, Ari Delano Peak, Spot Mayhem 150, Commencal Meta, and I’m sure I’m missing a bunch of DTC trail bikes for what this bike starts at.

    8. I own and love my Specialized gravel bike but for some reason their mountain bikes have never sparked my interest.

I’ve read reviews of this saying it’s the best trail bike ever.

I think it looks cool! I haven’t said that about a Specialized bike in a loooong time.

These days I tend to go a more for the boutique / quasi-boutique brands – but if I were in the market for a new bike, I’d definitely put this on the short list and check it out.

    11. Specialized has lost touch and o ly caters to those who need bragging rights based on price. It’s not a better bike than the competition, but by adding a premium price they think people will feel that way. You can get a lot more at this price point (e.g. Giant)
