hey folks how you doing it’s Richard from bik pack and Adventures hope you’re doing well it’s great to see you again today is beginning of the weekend it’s a Friday afternoon and I’m heading along the Lincoln in gravel route as is so often the case I’m currently making my way to the start of the route which the official route starts in retford in Nottingham Shire I’m joining at the most norly point near grinkle on the hill and falling it anticlockwise as you can see bit of a circuit around Nottingham sh if you fancy ride in the Lincoln gravel route you can find it on bikepacking.com or down below this video right let’s get into this there a plan for me on this Friday evening is to get myself to sh wood forest and uh while Camp up in there qu tent and then later again Camp somewhere else as well I do have a plan for both the camp spots one of those is pretty close to home and it’s new to me and I’m looking forward to doing it so stick around don’t go anywhere let’s see how the adventure turns out and this is currently me heading down from North Lincolnshire along some Bridal ways and previous railway lines towards grinkle on the hill think it’s about 40K to the start of the Lincoln in gravel route of CH mostly off road roads just like this one to keep me in the theme of this rest of this [Music] weekend going on a semi okay double track then we to right turn onto this it’s quite long as well so better improve shortly see if we can get going again a bit mountain bike l m bike is at home the mountain bike is at home it’s quite out next weekend to play great so we’ve already seen the route there the lincol in gravel if I just show you the route are be taking there’s that bit the top to get yourself onto the route was about 20K actually just over if we swing around towards Lincoln we can see the boot diverges we don’t go into Lincoln itself we head back into noting eventually F can’t finishing the route and then heading east towards Gainesboro through the woods at Lon towards skunthorp very tip of North lire we be hoping to Wild Camp Saturday evening that’s tomorrow evening and then short distance home through the avax on there may or may not do that bit about 50k just want kind of a an easy weekend nothing overly strous the days are long I’m just going to take a time enjoy [Music] it no time for you though so negotiating a little bit of sand in Lincolnshire or nottingshire to be more precise just turn off the a631 the uh vort the gainsb road and I’ve getting a few Trails on the way to Sherwood hopefully I’m not going to see too much of this don’t want to get my feet wet uh Nettles or feet wet Nettles or careful and avoid both good thing about following somebody else’s rout is in the main they’ve done all the hard work for you there was only a little bit earlier which was overgrown bit hi kiky at the end it was only about 300 M [Music] not so not so sure about netos versus wet feet just got to find some dock leaves I guess rub it in usually works well I’m glad it’s dry can’t imagine how much of this is a much running the wet crat is everywhere oh God it’s by the way with uh vular access the worst kind of byway not really a bway so I’m just leaving maty and Thorp on this uh really good for UK standard gra track it’s been going for quite a while so far as well I think it’s about 2 3 km in length nice tell you what there’s lots of little teeny weeny bunnies around here really tiny one miss my font wheel earlier on it was so tiny at least I won’t go be going without tea tonight I’m joking uh where am I going uh I’m not used this going alongside a farm lck I used to going over the MS or just recently the North and South Downs Goodway you know actual uh actual byways and rways sorry Mr farmer you destroyed the uh rideway i’ be over there all the time well that was a overgrown nettle Fest God just come over a highs speed train line tell you what though I could easily get flattened by a tent look at that nice but it didn’t last long back into the uh overgrowth I don’t R the route and I know R the route would be okay but these are the bits I’m not familiar with at all and uh seriously kind of had in mind that I’d get to uh the wild caming spot with plenty of time but this right as I so often do I won’t be taking any sort of Brew kits with me for a coffee or porridge or anything like that I’m just going to get a few snacks when I get to a little village called Edwin Stow it’s kind of the last bit of civil Iz ation before get into sheerwood woods and there’ll be a takeway there as well get some sort of fast food well Bango is my dream of reaching camp in daylight it’s not going to happen about halfway to Sherwood [Applause] Forest not really a track this is it I’ve uh just darted my way across the uh A1 as well A1 M well not A1 M just the A1 Dr carriageway look there’s a little reservation right in the middle A1 splits right through the middle of a bridal way would have known sunset time is 21 minutes 9 today on the 31st of May so you know it’s probably going to be in the wood it probably a bit dark quart 10 something like that probably hear the sound of the A1 over [Applause] there some somewh near BL hiking me way alongside of your carriageway H look at this I was going to say if I do this again which I won’t certainly not this way it needs a bit of a a little bit of a tweak shall we say all this rambling just to uh try to make me forget about the feels and feels of Stingy nles I had to walk through just to get here it must get better soon though look at this Woods beautiful stunning really nice we smell of pine [Music] beautiful keep seeing uh Hawthorne bushes I think just keep an eye out for them sticking out all over the place if I had resupply if I’d been to the shoper and i’ food on me anything I could have could have caped here but no I didn’t put R food in did I didn’t think it would take this long well good news after that rather questionable Jew carriageway Crossing it’s been beautiful the tracks have been AB amazing really really good lots of gravel everywhere and glorious it’s uh later than expected but here’s the canal deci to diverge a little bit from the route and continue along Mansfield Road to the very same Junction that I’m going to come across anyway cuz the uh Trail takes us off to the left somewhere I just want to save a little bit of time when you download these routes you don’t have to finish them to the tea it’s not a race you know take it do what you want with it maybe you go off to a p to pug grub and you you know cut a little bit of bit of the root off and go right I’m just going to join a little bit further up that’s all I’m kind of doing just been an adventure take bits out put back bits in it’s entirely up to you more Woods this time [Music] clumber yeah went straight through the gate and turn left now racing against this clock uh Co-op and then St yeah sponsored by Co-op close at 10:00 and it’s 10: to 9 so got an hour and 10 minutes to do 20 something K which I’m not happy about so I might not have any snacks for the morning almost ate all the snacks that I brought with me a this is this is just slowing me down this can’t we go on the normal Trails what it was gravel route I’m loving this actually it’s h taking longer but it’s beautiful really nice sure some of it’s marked as a probably foot path but it’s through the woods it’s through a Woods you can’t really uh really call it a foot path all right there’s no one here anyway wow some these big trees there it is you see how well on the picture this on set there a shame I didn’t bring any more food and drink with me cuz I’ve seen some great sports but I’m Reliant now on getting to a shop and I’ll gave you advice there about adapting the route and I should have taken my own advice I was quite close to retford I should have gone into wford this a super market I think on the outskirts could have gone in there got there on time now what do I want so I’ve done a shopping Co-op and I’m now in the pizza shop older Carone kazone KF caraz look at the drinks so couple copperberg Red Bull even got some Pringles hanging around there as well as well as some bits right in the middle super [Music] useful than good morning about 8:00 um just really had a peaceful night no rush to today um about 100 mils to do so really is plenty of time to uh get to the camp spot tonight might a little bit croaky bit soft about was in two Ms to come out this [Music] weekend so I’m heading out of clipstone forest now here at Sherwood these hydration V designed for two% purposes really hydration and uh for bik packing wise you probably leave the hydration bit at home and uh just bung lows of food and drinking it when you know like 5 miles from camp or something like that so regular viewers probably noticed I’ve not got a Garmin or Wahoo or anything using me phone at the moment might be wondering why well if you watch my uh bike packing through the Canary Islands video you would have noticed a zip tie across the previous Garman was rattling like crazy and on last week’s ride in the O Dales some water got into it and now the screen flickers on and off so got and ordered another one which uh I made me mind up on yesterday which was a Thursday we decide I looking at all the competition the kuo the uh what still what I’m thinking of Brighton I was looking at this thinking about you know changing the company out of line too and in the end I just ordered another Garmin cuz it seemed better VI for money I was looking at the Brighton s800 the hammer head Karu 3 and this one the Garmin 540 solar now it was a pretty close call I did like the look of the kuu 3 but it was like1 dearer and a battery life no we’re near as good as garments really it’s most like half the half the battery life so it’s got all the bells and whistles but uh B backing trips you need as much battery life as you can possibly get a hold of so yeah I’ve gone for the 540 solar I think it’s about 24 hours battery life uh plus the solar component as well you may laugh but the sun does actually shine in the UK from time to time so I’m sure it have added benefit at this time of year especially to have it charging itself on the move even it’s only a little Trickle [Music] leaving southw ended up uh going to The Bike Shop not sure the name I’ll pop it up on the screen first time I’ve been in there and I spoke to doing it Andy turns out he’s doing the TCR this year also the funny thing about doing YouTube is even for like smaller channels like your occasionally people do recognize you and straight away he was able to put a name to her face so good luck to Andy couple months away not far is it the date that is so I’m heading back North now it’s going to be a bit of headwind but nicely the wind switches around but nicely the Sun comes out what a d spring it turnning out to be I just ordered a new jile as well got a lightweight one which is in the wash got a winter one which is obviously too much for this time of year so I’ve got and ordered a new one a brand called VA or something since the uh collapse of Wiggle I find been finding myself looking on loads of different websites trying to you know just broaden the horizons and what’s available out there right what’s next I think it’s hawton there’s a good ice cream shop here what I I got time to stop I need to get some serious miles in now otherwise once again I’ll be arriving in the dark I don’t really want that if I could help it Walky walkie pretty slippery out here so just gone through cornon just the other side hiker Viking got me thinking before I get back on my bike that uh I predict the next generation of gravel bikes will have even lower gearing like like 46 or something the way things are going ground bikes getting more and more popular and uh if you want to take in more more places you could just say go get a mountain bike couldn’t you turn right oh great is this going to be like to open where is it hiding away somewhere right where does it want me to go I’m assume it’s going to go want to go his Meadow yep what fun definitely see more cows when you uh going off road it’s for sure at least up here to got tiny one right in the middle there on the right so bone see not getting fed there was a ball there as well horns I better not linger too much apparently sometimes cows can chase people on bikes for those that might know it I’m at the start of the ncn 64 just outside tuxford and the village of Skegby so it’s going to bring me to the ncn 64 not nice Circle path that takes you right into the City Center trying to find a good line along here it’s difficult it keeps jumping around [Music] [Music] [Music] I’m loving the trails in this area my mine’s on overlow trying to connect to in his head the trailers around doed in there here in skor wood as it Cris crossed over the ncn 64 keep left it’s a shame to come out the woods and uh cross the fields but hopefully this is all right so I’m just passing through saxer b learning Larch on this route at least at least learning Lear about sax seem’s like I always take the main FL there well here there’s a co-op a chippy a pizza place a Chinese a PO it’s everything you could possibly need and I never knew it was here and I’ve been through sax so many times and gone yeah I’m hungry arrived at txy Bridge so I’m leaving liner back into Nottingham Shire take straight across the river Trent just gone through rather over the first kissing that was ridiculous that beaching guy that beaching guy who said oh yeah rip up all the railways what di he was going through [Music] gate number two avoided the third one Farmer’s gate over there run that way instead this is bringing me into rampton alongside one of the power stations not sure which ones this is is it a cam I think been this way before early in the year perhaps January or tail Ender last year it was very very wet hopefully it’s dried up a lot now remember that being you know quite difficult to get over I me water’s just there so yeah anyway going to keep on moving more water there it’s everywhere just made a quick pit stop at the shop at North leverton heading away further into Nottingham West go down a track and never been down before and look this has been lots of fun this routee it’s been really good in the end SED from a few bits I haven’t got along with you know I think I can recommend it I’d uh be interested in making a route out this way myself going taking the information I’ve learned this weekend and come with an open stomach a bit uh bit more rable for the m is I’m not sure most people are happy to hop over du garage way mid rde ordinarily that would be fine but one it’s uh just a bride away an overgrown bride away that you can barely make out might not be to everybody’s cup of tea anyway on we go dodging for dos some may ask and state why you just pile on through well unfortunately it’s not a 2hour ride on a Saturday Saturday afternoon i’ have a make the conscious effort to uh avoid them as much as possible I can see a hill ahead oh lovely yeah straight on all that Hill long Redford gate [Music] [Music] I’m really looking forward to my next ride and I next race the Great British Escapade just hoping I can shift this cold it’s the ride I’ve been there waiting for all year really looking forward to it that’s 480 km start in Canterbury you ride the S Hills the Kent Hills I think they so North and South Downs oh it’s going to be wonderful did it last year really thoroughly enjoyed it hoping the weather’s going to be good return in on the mountain bike this year leave this gravel bike at home I think it’s going to be a bit more well it will be be a lot more comfortable on a mountain bike if I be to get around any quicker don’t know I’m going to try do my best and then it straight to this lovely Meadow D I say it if it’s not lumpy you could probably throw a tent on there fling out a bit but Ling peaceful don’t think many people go along here definitely a path but it’s not that well traveled it’s definitely more travel than some of the shocking rways and byways that I’ve been on earlier it’s peaceful here out the wind [Music] [Music] well would you believe it Beau one and it looks very overgo your side very [Music] very short section of shite that’s when it goes on for kilometer after kilometer it really been wir me up really pleased really surprised how many of these byways gravel tracks there are everywhere here in notingham Shire and it was for Fant fantastic for riding in Woodland in the trees and uh wild camping in the woods trails and things like that but share all of these byways brilliant and uh this particular boot it’s not all flat it’s not all flat as you can see coming on the right radio Mas I was like saying to myself fi week when I went to the North York malls I’m going to be coming here again it’s not too far away lot to discover and I’m finding the same here Nottinghamshire certainly uh in a kind of different way but there’s still a lot of lot of trails [Music] as time goes by I’m BR drop on a blue as time goes by as time goes by I’m a bling of an ey Sun just coming through the village of [Music] wison bit of a detour um I pushing all the way around the canal that I was meant to ride cuz it was so narrow at least for me barely the width of me and my [Music] bag and watch [Music] back on the canal again I think they call this Wilding funny a it I was oh yeah got loads of time lad time is slowly turned into no time blue skies in the background wow yeah it’s lovely now it’s not very warm though um L side of gainor I stopped at the stone Ferry which is name of these one of these chain Pub things the avoc car there I uh it was a very last second decision I had planned to go to KFC but uh went there instead and then went of course of course I went to a co-op just grabbed some breakfast for tomorrow few cookies and a drink no alcohol this time and the plan right now is uh I’m just going to head along this the banks of the river Chun the idea V in uh just to take a V Line there should be a little bit of a Tailwind pushing me there it’s it’s 1 minute past 8 Sunset it’s 20 plus 9 fingers crossed I’ll get there with some light if you made it this far through the video please do give it a thumbs up hit that subscribe button so you don’t miss out on any future backpacking Adventures bit of microclimate going on it’s definitely not uh Tailwind along here um L and Forest ahead as well I think I’m going to go in there it’s getting really really appealing I think I’m going to take the next R and head for the woods we got a little bit clearing up to do but should be to hide in here somewhere the sure WEA go a little bit further back I think I found my spot here in the woods at 10 to 10: to 9 uh yeah here will do nicely far off away from roads and headlights and people peering in and stuff so yeah should pitch down here best get set up like the other reason why I was eager to stop and why I ended up here I guess because it I start to get really tired so this was pretty convenient oh hopefully get rid of this cold as well right I’ll see you in the morning good night hey folks St a brand new day and a gorgeous day it is on just poking its way through the uh tree canopy there that’s a beautiful stunning I’ve not heard a a car for hours traffic stopped about half 10 something like that really is a truly quiet place uh as I knew it would be I’m very very quiet indeed been bitten the top to head just there something’s bit me I don’t know what it is anyway it’s time to get back to weing while I’m going to have breakfast first of course uh just show you what I’ve got so on today’s menu with me I have one of these nomadic yogurty things yogurt and oat cluster it says oat cluster nice coffee it’s not quite the same as hot piping coffee is it and somewhere else I have got milk chocolate cookies so talk into that and then uh get tided up and head home about 20 miles from home this short Sunday ride so before I get up and leave thought I’d share a bit of a tip from here in the Woodland because if you ever thought about Kipping in the woods there are some things that you probably should know one any sort of barking as the sun goes down or early hours of the morning once you’re asleep or it wakes you all it will be is dear um the really are distinctive sound really you haven’t heard them before really will uh freak you out a little bit the other thing is as well uh when I arrived cuz it was light I was able to uh look at a few landmarks so just for over there I don’t know you see it well when to me to me it looks like it like looks like a rock but it’s actually just a tree that’s been falling and all the Earth’s come up so I know where that is that means the road is that way and just to just case forget this morning I pointed my bike the way I want to go as well so there’s a few tips for you if you ever go in the woods it all looks the same wake up in the morning you might not know which way to go little spot there I a wakeing up that in the morning a peacock saw on you can’t move sh I’m not going to be riding all day and I’m just going to head home from me here to be honest I need to rest up I need to get rid of this cold and this chesty cough so now it’s morning it’s daylight let’s talk about the Lincoln in gravel route a bit more shall we now my tolerance levels probably are higher than most people’s when it comes to roots and things cuz there really was some bad route sections I mean would you comments down below go straight across the A1 je carriageway you know what I mean sit in the middle wait for a spot in the traffic and I don’t mean there’s a lane or anything I mean there Road one side on on the other side there a small Gap through the trees and that’s where you meant to be going would you uh would you do that would you go your bik and push it down a canal path cuz you’re afraid you’re going to fall in are you going to walk through like 2 three miles through overgrown fields and things however often with each of those rewarded with some fantastic gravel it’s just I wish there was better connected maybe that is the most direct route and you can’t connect them any other way but I shall go out and see for myself and connect them a bit better but I found some amazing gravel and for that I’m truly gr thankful to Rob for putting that root together a few years ago now the Lincoln imp gravel go check it out on B packing.com I’ll stick a link down below as well so I don’t mean to put you off in any way I know there’ll be lots of people out there just like me adventurous that don’t give a an F you know they’ll quite gly go out there and the Less Traveled path so if you’re that sort of person why not give it a go I have uh yet to properly test out this vest in warm weather this is the kind of weather I’m looking for for to well cross your fingers for on the Great British escapades next weekend Thursday in fact start if it’s like this in the A and doesn’t get too warm in the PM then uh Happy [Music] Days found a stretch now the kidby and stainforth Canal [Music] [Applause] [Music] right that’s me D oh was left to say is give a video a thumbs up and if you enjoyed it that much do hit subscribe and I’ll see you in the next one soon take care bye-bye [Music]

    1. On the Komoot list ready for when the good weather arrives, if it ever does! (Might also wait until later in the year when the foliage has died back a bit!)
