A day that was set for the usual suspect sprinters was spoiled by Eritrean rider, Biniam Girmay. Today also saw a strategic change in the yellow jersey which can take some responsibility off of team UAE as they head into the high mountains tomorrow.

all right couple headlines here we’re all sitting around waiting for uh a history to be made Sports history Global Sports history with Mark cabers this was his first opportunity to win a stage A lot happened as as does happen we didn’t see the rain like we talked about yesterday yesterday but there’s always crashes and there was Mark got caught out looked like a small uh smallish group um separated from the main the main pelaton and and bignan GMI wins the stage and it’s history it is right it’s it’s different kind of History maybe it’s a different kind of History we didn’t even think about this the first rider ever from area tra to win stage in the quite as exciting as well I mean incredible he’s he he didn’t this wasn’t a lucky win I mean lucky in the sense that yes if if if 200 guys go to the line does he win probably not but hey that’s that’s not that’s not the way the ball bounced yeah so and he’s a bike racer this is not and the other thing three stages three smaller teams we spend so much time talking about these $40 million teams and all their R&D and all their new ideas and and marginal gains first three stages smaller teams smaller budgets small underdogs nobody picked them um all very emotional wins as well I think pretty much all of them cried uh just been great you like that we I don’t think we could have asked for a better start to the tourto France thus far and it was a quintessential first week stage of the tourto France first Sprint stage we saw some crashes some you know just random unexplained crashes going straight on the road that is just an indication of the stress the directors on the radio yelling like this is your first chance everything you have they’re going to take every risk in the world to try to to get a stage win today and we saw it guys were just crashing on straight roads one by one here and there there wasn’t even Corners when they were crashing but that’s uh first spring stage of the Tour of France yeah what I thought was interesting it’s it’s not like it was a fluke that that uh ge caught that wheel cuz two of his teammates were doing a perfect lead out and they were kind of looking around going where’d he go right they kind of lost contact with him he found his way through it but they they knew he could win today like they were leading out uh he said and maybe it changed with the crash but you know the the intention at the start of the stage was not to work for him and when they were leading they let out the Sprint they were leading and out the last K he was 10 back yeah but he’s he’s clever right he knows where to be he knows what wheel to get on he he says I got two guys there um he doesn’t need to be third whe they are keeping the speed high he can sort of float around and find the one that he wanted he he finds his way and you know this is look I had to look y’all know I don’t know anything about where I don’t know anything about is it called geography I don’t know anything about that stuff I looked it up like I arria is in Africa and it’s on the Red Sea but that my that’s not my point my point is that you know they don’t grow up uh I imagine what what don’t I don’t know but I imagine they don’t grow up racing bikes like an Italian would or a Belgian would where you really learn to find your way in the pelaton especially in a hectic Sprint that says so much like this is just insane and and I thought I did know that this was the first air train to win a stage and tour France and I just assumed there was never an Air Tran in the tour to France I was wrong about that there have been a couple um anyways Amazing Story and just to back up what you said JB is they we talked about it yesterday there was that one corner with one 1K to go 900 me ago they won that first battle for being a small team of course there were some crashes so we had the the likes of Aline Phoenix aana not really there because of their leaders wrecked out but still they were there with two three maybe four guys which was a a huge win in itself just getting to that corner we all knew it was going to be a huge race to that corner and they got there that had to give um mingam gmet a bit of confidence as well just seeing his guys there bit more comfortable waited back sat back to the last minute and got that Victory and there were a couple of roundabouts that shook it up like what’s that like when you’re trying to do the lead out train and it just keeps splitting everybody off and back together and there’s usually one way around is better than the other well nowadays they know exactly which way to take they they follow the shortest route but it’s Europe I mean there’s roundabouts everywhere and it happens all day they’re used to it um but we saw today a couple crashes in some of those roundabouts here’s here’s just to come over the top on that JB if if um a few of the teams like the roundabouts because if you’re in the front going into the roundabout about imagine if there wasn’t a roundabout right and you’re trying to keep your team in front it’s very difficult guys are always swarming you and trying to come around when they when they have these big roundabouts and you’re in the front inevitably the field thins out it just does right you have to because of the of the soft Corners so if you’re in the front you’re coming out in the front and the field is strung out so it makes it uh you know you want to be in the front I guess is always the moral of the story and if you’re in the back you’re you’re at the back of this long strung out line um so it just depends uh which part of the pellaton you’re in another thing that was interesting today like everybody was like Philipson’s a favorite he lost his golden lead out um Vanderpool had a flat yeah at like what 6K and seemed to be in had a crash I think cuz he he came across the line yeah um holding his collar bone now I don’t know and he it it wasn’t scratch he wasn’t scratching his upper back he was holding his shoulder collarbone area so it looked like that one crash with I don’t know three 4K to go a lot of the top guys were sort of in that same bubble on the right side of the road and they might not have crashed but guys like Cavendish Phillipson they all got gapped out there and fortunately they didn’t go down but 3K to go you get gapped out behind a crash most likely not going to come back I thought it was interesting all these newer bigger sprinters that gavia was right there too that’s a name that we you know know he was dominating when we started this show had we had so much fun with that name many many years ago and of course like we do we just we were butchering the pronunciation and people were sending us all the pronunciations remember rogish we and then what’s her name would send us the pronunciations hey I was very happy I miss her I really miss her on the show if she’s listening n NSA is her name um but then somebody sent us how to say uh oops gabia gavia we were saying gab not only it’s great to see him back at the top of the game I actually just sent him a message he was in the tour of columia name dropper what a great great guy I mean uh awesome person and I’ll give you a little bit of the story when Cavendish won the stage and tour uh Columbia this is Cav’s Hometown home country race I mean he won the first or second stage the stage that Cav won he was second and there was perhaps a little bit of uh you know taking into the barriers you know C made a lean that way and the race jury went to Pro the team his team went to protest it and there was a bit of an argument there that maybe he did slide from his line cavia called the race J and said Cav wins I don’t want to be part any part of this protest I mean the guy is just like rock Sal I’m a huge fan of him H I did not know that I did not know that another name in there mixing up dele um Johan’s been big on Arnold dele for some time he was on his up incomers list years ago he won the Belgian championships in Beyond convincing style he’s going to win a stage in this tour to France which for that is a team that’s I don’t know if they won a bike race in 10 years I mean this this he’s going to win a stage this year he they’re looking good this year a different I agree with that this is a different team I mean he’s um he’s explosive he you will see him win a stage absolutely a change in yellow I know which we were kind of trying we should know this we’ve been doing a lot of people are scratching their heads with this scenario so Johan wrote in thank you Johan four Riders at the same in the same time the rider with the smallest number adding up of their place and gets the yellow which I actually didn’t know that but uh yeah so they carats made a conscious effort to stay near the front and uh there were some crashes there was some gaps who knows what happened with poker truffy just sat up and wanted to give it to him but incredible for that team you have education in the yellow Jersey the tour France incredible for South American cycling um also very very good for the team UAE uh Vis M Lisa bike tomorrow we’re going to start talking about tomorrow here pretty soon but they’re they’re an awesome team to lead that race and keep it in control and uh it’s a win-win scenario for many different teams today yeah yeah you know I’m just reflecting on this crash happened within 3K so that anytime there’s a crash within 3 km those Riders get the same time as the winner back in our I just I I I I still have PTSD over thinking about our Our Generation where it was 1K so if if that was back you know going back 20 years ago they would have been losing time so the fight was always not for the finish line for us GC guys was like just get to 1K and and then you would be somewhat protected this is the UCI does not make very many good rule changes in my opinion this was a good one like it it just it it keeps those GC guys and climbers out of the way of the sprinters but imagine right if if this was 20 years ago they would have been then people were just getting on their bikes as fast as possible and sprinting for 3 km just trying to lose as little time as possible it that changes the game for these GC guys for sure sometimes there’s Rumblings of moving it back to 5K is three enough I think these days I’d be I think three is good but five would be better and there was actually a couple interviews as morning that in a way it was good that the first two stages were so hard because there’s such a big gap between Riders now that the GC guys potentially don’t have to be so far up in the front uh to lose you know those 10 seconds to these Sprinter guys I don’t really care right now because all these sprinters are 15 20 30 minutes behind already after two stages today’s stage was 5K rule new experiment thank you Johan he just wrote that in as well um so so this is you know how do we not know these we Johan we need we need him on the show tomorrow you and Johan yes Johan would you like to come on the show tomorrow he’s listening he’s listening live because our members are listening live yeah uh let we’re going to have to talk about tomorrow stage uh first day in the high mountains quite a few things stand out for me but before we do Today’s Show brought to you by Kon IQ as I said at the top of the show they are our presenting sponsor the entire summer we often hear that fasting and exercise are good for the brain hvmn launched the world’s first drinkable Ketone in 2017 Ketone IQ is their latest Innovation on ketones with improved Effectiveness taste and cost keto and IQ also has a partnership with visma Lisa bike and I also read the other day that uh according to them which I believe uh nine out of 10 te nine out of 10 teams in this year’s tour are using Ketone IQ 30% off your first subscription order plus a free six-pack when you use the link ketone .the that’s ket.com thememove yes sir before before you move on to the next ad I’m going to give you a little bit of ammo because one of the founders this is why Michael wrote in to you today and gave you a little bit of scoop that uh denounced everything I said yesterday you want to share that with our I did I woke up to this it’s sort of he’s over in Europe uh let me scroll them my text here where where H okay Michael Brandt the CEO this is good thank you for remembering this since it calls you out and and proves you wrong he’s the CEO of of Ketone IQ he’s a really good runner we’ve had him on the show a few times I think he’s going to come back on this summer he says Lance bonjourno from Torino that’s what he wrote that’s what he that was pretty pretty sick huh uh I’m here with Team visma Lisa bike loving the move coverage so far by the way I asked the team if they use their GPS map feature on the desense oh what you and George were debating yesterday and the answer is yes they do so okay yep that was why don’t you have a little suck on that George okay I I am and I I happily handed it over to you it just makes s folks this is why you don’t skip through the ads cuz you never know what happens we’re still going to try with pedal assist up to 28 mil an hour and a little trivia why is it called the ES1 because I named it the ES1 and this is how smart I am folks all right they had the road bike that was the ns1 they had the gravel bike that was the gs1 and I heard they were going to make an ebike and I said well why don’t we call it the es one and and they did and it even says named by Lance during last year’s tour does it really royalties royalty head on over to ventom ring.com thememove that’s ventom racing.com thee move ES1 I I’ve never named anything those bikes are sweet got one of those at the house it’s awesome never I’ve never name well that’s not true that as there was once a bike company I I believe it’s still around I I did name one of their bikes and they sold a lot of them not to be named not to be named George guess who’s back the feed that’s right our friends at the feed are back to keep us hydrated and fueled throughout the tour to France mosa listen here’s the thing about the feed and I say this every year the feed has been with us for a long time yes they have and I just kick myself why I didn’t think of this idea or slash invest in this idea or we both kick ourselves because we both should have invested and thought about it my job is actually to invest for you uh most of the time but uh how much did you like eating those same goofy gels and shoes day after day after a couple days you get bored of it you’re going around trying to trade with other teams in the pelaton um so definitely this is a unique concept and we all need this in our lives well the feed is back for those who don’t know it’s the largest Online Marketplace for Sports Nutrition and you can pretty much buy whatever you want you get a single servant of anything you want uh keep it Super Fresh every day I got my little um musette bag right here filled with all you got you probably got some one skin up in there too don’t even try to let me pull it out right now you got your compression socks and your tidy whes the feed pretty uh back up the feed will have some pretty great deals for all 21 stages of the tour starting with their tour to France pack and that’s what you have right there that’s your right yeah well George isn’t great with numbers but so here’s the deal you get 11 products for $21 I’m still not sure how we came up with 11 yeah I got some of my favorites of the Magnesium pillar uh great for sleeping the scratch chews um like I said just just a bunch and you you you can change it up every day all right head on over to thefeed.com you’ll see the pack that’s 11 products for 21 bucks that’s 50% off and you get a feed M zette bag and a limited tour bottle and that’s the feed.com all right let’s talk about tomorrow first High first day in the high mountains very early for a tour to France day four we’re already I mean these aren’t these little uh um you know this is in foreplay right these are high mountains right glier rolling up through Bri Brion son even and that if you look at the profile which we can we actually should pull up I love to I don’t know does any of that day look flat to you guys I don’t no not all it’s never flat and it’s I think the number one thing to remember about this day we’ve had some long tough days 139 km that’s uh whatever 85 miles so it’s that’s a short stage clearly this doesn’t affect you emotionally at all for somebody like me seeing this prologue this is the absolute as a team in yellow Jersey this is the absolute worst start that you can imagine for team trying to control the races why also said it was a big win for UAE big win for Vis Lisa bike why do you ask because it’s about 50 kilometers uphill and the first part is going to be a gradual uphill sort of ups and downs but generally heading uphill what does that mean a team on the front is trying to control the race on these little downhills on these little rollers there is going to be just constant amount of attacks and you’re going to have the team leading the race is going to have to try to control it as much as possible not let a group of 20 25 guys go which is going to happen because of momentum the clear you know the just the simple fact of momentum these teams or Riders attacking are going to fly past the EF education tomorrow and it’s just such a hard start for team controlling the race that said EF education going to have a ton of motivation they have a stacked team um they would love to be in the Jersey as long as possible they’re going to do a great job but it is going to be a very tough day neelson uh Sean Quinn my fellow Americans be ready shit’s going to hurt I still wake up with nightmares about stages like this so I feel for you tomorrow and I’m rooting for y’all it’s like George giving him the pep talk in the bus I like that yeah yeah know it’s going to be tough George says I feel sorry for you guys and and the reason I said yeah I feel sorry for them and I felt like I I’m emotionally invested in this because our boy over here just be sitting behind us being like oh why you guys letting so many guys go what’s the problem let’s pick it up who who there’s 15 y’all hurry up speed up and then Johan be in the back like too many guys away too many guys go get them well I’ll tell you what there a lot easier said than done I agree we’re going to see it tomorrow on the stage I agree they got that Big Valley roll through Brien and then I think one thing I mean I think for the for the general fan if you look at um the the you know the most famous mountain of this stage they’re going over the glier right that’s that’s a top five if you think about big climbs in France the ones that everybody knows right you’ve got alz you’ve got vonu uh um you’ve got the GB is in the top five um but it’s different this year it’s but just keep in mind the sort of the most historical battles on the GB came from the other side right there’s always most of the time there’s two sides to a mountain uh they are coming up from the backside so they will start what they call the lay and then go over the top of the Gia and then finish downhill which is always interesting I think it neutralizes the stage a Mountain Stage we’ve talked about this a lot in the past but uh this is not it might look um unfamiliar it’s it’s a it’s a side that they don’t typically go up and for those who you really want to nerd out on these climbs and the maps if if you didn’t turn right and go up the lter and over the Grier and you just went straight that would take you straight to alz so all these all these big famous climbs as a crow flies they’re all kind of right there yeah which is also very unique in the sense is that we’re just getting a teaser of what’s to come in the mountains we’re only going to be there one day which I don’t remember actually that happening where we have such a iconic Mountain Stage and then we leave the mountains so what’s gonna happen tomorrow it’s gonna be a huge obviously huge GC battle but we’re going to see the guys the GC guys or some of the strong Mountain guys that had a bad first stage second stage that maybe lost five six minutes they’re going all into either one get back into the GC or two go for a stage win so tomorrow’s race is going to be fullon action in a very very very tough stage the most important Rider to watch tomorrow it’s not Primos I’m sorry it’s not Teddy pocar it’s not I I think I think we’re going to see yon as vard get over fine I just uh leaked out what I was going to say uh rogich is the most important guy to watch tomorrow after after his poor performance or disappointing performance yesterday he’s he has to I mean straight up he has to go over the top with leaders or are the tours over for him right it’s he’s what 21 seconds back from yeah but it’s just emotional or psychologically he has to he has to get over with the favorites it would be a disaster if he gets dropped on the Gia and so I that’s if I’m watching one guy tomorrow just to see where he is and see if he mentally recovers it’s him well based on what we saw yesterday in the final today what we saw in the final my guess is you know guys like yonas and and pogach are going to be happy with a group of 5 10 guys over the why would they want to why would they let the yellow Jersey go today not really care about it and try to get it tomorrow when they can actually have a team do all the work with for them for the next three four five days and be able to save their team I know that’s what Johan and you guys would want to do yeah and and this totally changes if they finish on top of the cier correct if the Finish is on top we have a very different conversation we see a very different race tomorrow it is the reason I do not like downhill finishes if you if you’re going to go over the glier well let’s finish on the glier I won the stage that went downhill the backside of of the glp no I mean I get it it’s early in the tour it’ll test some guys it’ll select some people you know you’ll see if somebody’s bad you’ll see they’re bad but I think to your point George those big big favorites are cool to just if they win over with 20 guys yeah they’re totally fine with that roget has to be there he he’s going to be there I’m I’m picking him I I agree with that we saw that the other day that pachar and vingo will race downhill we might see that I don’t I don’t I I I the there is time bonuses at the top of the gier that might be different if there were time bonuses at the bottom yeah the time bonuses are actually on the gier so you know there could be some accelerations there but I don’t why take risk going down and I haven’t you know Troy Kimmel here has not checked the weather that I mean that said there’s going to be constant amount of attacks there’ll most likely be a breakaway but the team controlling the race is going to have to ride pretty hard otherwise they’re going to just get keep getting attacked from behind so what does that mean that if they’re actually is a breakaway there’s going to be a good chance that the um GC group will be able to catch them so it depends if pogar or one of or a guy like Rog is like I can win this stage you know all we got to do is catch this Breakaway I’m going to be one of the faster guys in a Sprint of 10 20 guys let’s chase this breakway down so even though there’s most likely going to be a break there’s a good chance it gets caught as well depending on what the GC guys want to do wa how about a rope ad doe on the weather Troy Kimmel did I did um a reminder if you didn’t listen today Today’s show you know growing up you always remember the weatherman um our weatherman in Austin was this guy Troy Kimmel so I just did a little Troy kimming um and two two days ago it was 95 degrees these guys are getting smoked tomorrow is high have 61 degrees low of 45o so what a change right just in a I mean obviously the race is moving a little North and getting into the mountains but that’s a huge change yeah but dry the whole day dry well cloudy cloudy so welcome relief from 95 degrees Yeah I’d imagine that’ feel pretty good for the guys no rain in the forecast and I bring this up because to your point JB yes if it if it were a downhill finish in the rain just because they guys there are guys that just suck going downhill and then there are guys who suck 10x going downhill on the rain yeah me being one of them I just never ever ever liked that so I think they’ll take I think they’ll be somewhat conservative going down little ventom trivia by by the way are you going to tell us the the the question yesterday was amazing I I I I want to know the answer to that the mascot of the tour to France apparently has a name nobody knew it and you’d think the guy that’s done more tours than anybody on planet Earth would know but he didn’t yet no he did not know I did not know Johan didn’t know either okay what’s his name uh the name of the T of France lion mascot is Leo that’s kind of uneventful but I don’t know what would have been an exciting name I don’t know well today’s question and again you uh I’m going to give you an address URL to send in your answer you can enter every day and uh every time there’s another chance to win the bike at the end of the tour so today’s question which Italian cyclist won the most tour to France stages and how many there are two correct answers o I can probably guess that I can guess one of them one of I’ll give a hint one one is from your era and one is from yeah way back yeah The Lion King mhm maybe most maybe people don’t know who the L look up Leo Leo Leo um and uh oh we uh send your answer into ventom racing.com thememove all right enter you can enter her every day couple messages real quick draws a circle is their name on YouTube they said yonas wait a minute that’s that’s that’s I grab YouTube comments and that’s people have strange screen names draw a circle draws a circle M yonas was interviewed by D you know the best way to draw a circle like the most accurate way to draw a I learned this as a kid you know most people like if you’re going to draw a circle here I’ll try to draw a circle right so like if I draw a circle I’m right-handed and I write going that you know you go the most accurate way to do is go the opposite way go to the left look how good that circle is okay hey yet another public service announcement from the move look at this circle so I did that not going I the natural tendency is to do it the other way do it the other way okay let’s try it this way that’s not bad either but it’s not as good as going left right so the top one is the way you would naturally want to do it and if you go left look look how round that is folks all right Public Service Announcement number 82 from the move I didn’t know that all right children go the opposite Direction y uh yonas was interviewed by Danish television and asked about the downhill what we were talking about the day well and they were kind of racing downhill the other day and he said I’ve been training downhill to overcome any fear wow he’s been doing a lot of downhill training he’s pretty good on the downhills right which fear we weren’t noticing the fear well from his crash that’s probably what he’s talking well that’s what he’s talking about for sure and they kept showing by the way I had not seen that crash yeah that that put him in the hospital for a couple stoping that was and they you’re right they kept showing it over and over buddy that was I mean these these boys were ragd dolling I mean that was awful yeah was and just like one it was just like somebody was shooting them out of a cannon one at a time yeah you don’t see that often uh Mark writes Tale of Three team buses this is the only place to get this Insight great job uh Eric writes was going to be in one of the team I was like wow we got a scoop from yeah uh Eric writes uh first I’m a huge fan of the show I didn’t start watching the tour until 2020 thanks to co missed a few good ones missed a few good ones and I didn’t hear about the show until 2023 now the podcast recap is my daily ritual and requirement during the tour my question is why would pagach pachar want to avoid the yellow Jersey as a fan but someone who does it race this rationale is not clear to me well I I I’ll go first and George you can come over the top but I I suspect he doesn’t want to avoid having the yellow Jersey this guy wants it all I mean he he rolls up on the buffet and he’s like I’ll take it all everything it seems like in as his career has proven but the team the directors of the team and certainly his teammates which George can speak to they don’t want that Jersey yeah as far as they’re concerned they’d be happy to get that Jersey the day before Paris so they could be the team rolling well this year day before so they could be the team rolling into the final with the old Jersey you know the guys that have to do all the work man that’s a that’s a heavy Jersey yeah and not only that but they they had the pink jersey pretty much the whole Juro um and it was they were confident they weren’t really scared of anybody I think this year or this tour they got a little fear I mean yonas is looking very good he’s beaten poar the last two years so they got to they got to save every match they can right now and having the yellow Jersey this early on will be burning a lot of matches on their team yeah y all right send your questions into the move at weed do. team and catch the show after this with JB squared more insight from Johan outcomes with Johan and Spencer and Lov and reminder for those folks here in the US if you have peacock and want to watch the show obviously you can watch it other places listen in all the other places uh we’ll be back on peacock tomorrow nice uh since it’s uh it’s a big day it’s an interesting day um yeah short shorter stage too shorter stage 35k so be full full gas from the gun prus Rog glitch has to he’s got to be there and and and look good otherwise I think that story’s over then then it’s a two-man race although watch out you know what rco’s right there too rco Carz it’s carapaz has a has a bee in his bun this the Olympic champ I’m GNA say it again because I don’t understand it he’s the Olympic champion from some place I don’t even know where it is and he didn’t get selected to defend his Olympic title he has a be in his bun from from Ecuador super high altitude these big big mountains in the Alps the higher the altitude the better it is for him and the yellow of 11. Today's stage win brought to you by a bowl of onions. That's "bowl of onions." Head on over to the kitchen to grab your fresh bowl and get those tears flowing.

    13. Very happy for Bini, which is bound to be a huge motivation for many more Eritrean – and African – cyclists to take pro cycling. Also sorry to see Cav caught behind the crash and missing out on the sprint. Hope he can survive the Galibier and be ready for the next few sprint stages.

    14. Le Tour is alway exciting but this year there for sure is a different vibe. Are the riders feeling “off” because it’s not going to end Paris?
