    now before you call me a hairdressers car Fanatic in the comments please just hear me out for a second because I think the Audi TT really has something going for it but especially this one let’s get into it my name’s Tom and you’re watching Paragon cars let’s go [Music] [Music] [Music] why this one then well this is the 230 horsepower 370 newm of torque ea8 powered car and it doesn’t have Quattro however not only does that make it lighter at just 1260 kg but also just a tad more engaging so there’s only one thing left to find out let’s see what kind of time this thing can put in on the 30 to 70 Sprint well ain’t that impressive we managed 4.42 seconds which makes this thing as fast as a Mercedes A35 AMG that is punkers when you think about it is this thing really running only 230 hor horsepower H I think Audia telling a little bit of a Porky there because even the horsepower per ton of the TT is lower than the A35 having said that though the torque per ton is actually higher on the TT so who knows one thing’s for sure though the TT is a wolf in sheep’s clothing now if you want to see how crap the rear seats are or the rest of the interior of the Audi TT then please click on the link in the top right hand corner as for now though let’s get on the road oh quite excited to be back in another Audi TT actually because this is the first one I’ve driven with that ea8 2 L turbo which is similar to the VW Golf GTI 230 horsepower in a car that weighs 1260 kilos that is quite a lot of poke isn’t it in such a light car and the thing is like immediately as you get in this thing the steering feels sharper just the shape of the wheel as well feels nicer the gearbox feels just as Snappy if not a little bit snappier feels very well programmed and everything just feels sporty you feel so cocooned in this car going over speed bumps feels like a proper sports car quite stiff but not overly stiff Audi are just they’re like Masters at damping honestly for UK roads Audi’s are probably some of the best riding and handling cars out there look at that the steering is so fast you know two turns lock to lock that is quick it’s weird though because it’s the dynamic steering which if you don’t know basically means at lower speeds the steering is like more responsive so you can turn the wheel like that and the wheels will go very left or very right and at higher speeds if you turn the wheel the same it’ll turn slightly less just for improved stability just so you don’t end up chucking yourself into a tree but it it feels more responsive than the steering in like a VW Golf aromy even though it’s the same I know I shouldn’t do that when I’m standing still but it’s not the end the all but even though it’s the same ratio or similar ratio it’s very nice steering rack I think the shape of the wheel as well makes a huge difference and just this interior man absolutely gorgeous interior in a car that’s like nearly 10 years old the design is 10 years old but I mean if this came out in 2023 you’d be perfectly fine with it I think I can already feel this is going to be an absolute monster on a B- Road the thing is back in the day people called these hairdressers cars and you know what right the original TT and the Mark I especially the original didn’t handle that well the Mark I was an improvement but it it still had quite a bit of Audi steer going for it you know it felt nice to drive but wasn’t actually that Dynamic whereas this I’m betting you this is going to be an absolute animal when we get it on a b Road first though we’re going to take it around town see what it’s like to park this car isn’t equipped with parking sensors nor a reverse Cabra which uh is pretty bog speec but I think once you’re used to the size of it it’s not that bad it’s the initial kind of getting used to it that can be quite hard though because you can’t really see where the corners of the car is that easily um but yeah once you learn the signs of it it’s not too bad still a fairly small car but I just love sitting in this thing it really does feel like a miniature Audi R8 anyway in terms of parking this thing as I mentioned it is a fairly small car you know you’re looking at VW Golf kind of size right but the only problem is when you don’t have parking sensors or a reverse camera and you’ve got this kind of hatchback Coupe shape it’s pretty difficult to see out the back the wing mirrors are okay they’re pretty wide so you can see what is kind of around you quite easily but the steering angle isn’t the best in the world it’s not bad but it’s not the best so getting into a space in one go can be a little bit Troublesome but you can kind of Judge where the car is it’s not that hard to sort of see where you are and then getting out this thing once you’re in a space obviously you got these Coupe style doors so unfortunately sometimes you can struggle to get out of it just a little bit more than you would in the equivalent Audi a or S3 just cuz you got longer doors you know but I do find it’s not too bad it’s the fact it’s lower down as well actually can be quite bad for older people but if you’re looking at sports cars you know a Porsche Cayman GTS or just a Porsche Cayman in general is pretty low down as well that’s a proper sports car anyway coming out of Junctions in this thing start stop is off because everyone hates that give it half throttle with front-wheel drive so you do get a little bit of wheel hop which is horrible but this engine is just it’s absolutely wonderful torque comes in nice and low and the gearbox is so Snappy even though this is the six-speed DSG you know what I think it has a slightly better personality than the seven-speed does the seven speed like when you’re really on it I feel is a little bit sharper but this one when you’re kind of just driving around I actually think is maybe a little smoother it’s hard to tell you’d have driv them back to back but I do think it’s very close right we are going to do an MPG test today as we always do once we’re on the motorway so let’s reset our trip computer and we’re going to see what figure we can get on the combined cycle which is a mixture of fast driving and Motorway driving or a mixture of t driving and Motorway driving um so we are going to take this thing round round about get the traction off and have a little little bit of fun before we get the motorway uh Audi claim this thing will do 44.8 m per gallon on the combined cycle they actually say it’ll do over 50 on the extra Urban and I have seen over 50 in an eaaa engine car before but it is a very rare site and you do have to drive very very slowly to actually get that figure we’re talking like 50 m hour for hours on end um but yeah we’ll see if we can at least get over 40 MPG I think if we get over 40 I’ll be happy anyway let’s get this thing to a roundabout now get the traction off get it in Dynamic and uh I can surprise you with um something that actually shocked me initially driving this thing okay let’s use our favorites button to get us into Dynamic unfortunately in neuro Audi you can’t use the favorites button to change drive mode unless you get the RS model but you can in the older Audi don’t know why they got rid of that but is what it is it’s Audi being Audi anyway let’s get the traction into sports not all the way off yet get the gearbox into manual and I can uh show you what surprised me it was in fact this did you hear that that is a proper DSG F let’s do it again that is properly loud isn’t it I don’t know if the uh camera is actually picking this up properly but it is genuinely like aftermarket exhaust loud and you know what I think it actually sounds better than the Audi TTS I think because the tail pipes are slightly wider it actually has a slightly deeper and throatier tone to it all right coming on to the motorway let’s use our favorites button to change our drive mode again get ourselves into efficiency which will deaden the throttle a bit and we’ll yeah just kind of stop you from using so many revs and so much of the turbocharger trying to save fuel um but yeah just give it half throttle but you know what it’s not bad I think cuz the car’s light it doesn’t really matter that it’s kind of holding back the power a bit it’s still pretty nippy but then unfortunately once you are on the motorway you do notice this is very slightly noisier inside than the Audi A3 even though it’s based on the same chassis as obviously you’re just like more connected to the road by every little piece of this car um thing is though wind noise is pretty low still it’s just the road noise you do get a little bit of tire roll we’re not talking like Rena Cleo bad but it’s kind of like in between a Ford Fiesta and a Ford Focus so it’s definitely livable by all means but it’s just not the best in the world once you on the motorway we’ve got Lane assist we’ve got cruise control and yeah it’s pretty relaxing to drive really still a pretty comfortable car yeah it’s a very easy sports car to live with whether it’s proper sports car they we’ll find out later I do think though anything that’s front-wheel drive should really just be called a hot hatch at the end of the day it’s built on a hot hatch platform it’s got a hatch back and it’s front wheeel drive that makes it a hot hge right come on yeah seat Comfort is very good nothing really to complain about suspension again the damping is just amazing you can feel that it’s sporty but it’s not uncomfortable you know the equivalent bmw1 series is much stiffer than this but ironically they kind of have the same body control it’s very strange really Audi are just Masters in the art of damping anyway I think it’s time to get ourselves on the motorway now and uh put some proof in the pudding and see if we can get over 40 m per gallon [Music] okay it’s the M25 so there’s traffic it’s typical Saturday um we are going to come off slightly earlier but look at that we got 41.9 MPG 42 MPG in the space of how many miles was that yeah 12 miles that is genuinely quite impressive so yeah I reckon on a longer Journey you might actually get pretty close to 50 m per gallon if not over it um if you’re actually sitting below 70 mph but at 70 you will get over 40 MP gallon very easily I’m pretty happy with that I think it’s because this car has got a low drag coefficient and uh it’s also very light isn’t it it’s actually nearly 100 kilos lighter than an Audi A3 which is pretty impressive anyway let’s explore the sporty side of this car now and take it onto a B- Road get the traction all the way off and uh have some proper fun all right then traction fully off let’s get past this Lorry and then give it some third gear is properly strong in this going down the B Road first just because it feels absolutely amazing this is a proper proper hot hatch it is a Golf GTI that is stiffer wider lower and racer what an absolute machine and let’s get past this broken down car can we still hit 60 look at that of course we can this thing is properly [Music] fast now there were some cyclists down here so I do have to be a little bit careful where are they somewhere around here so we’ll slow down a bit but the steering feels absolutely gorgeous in this that is the word to describe it just [Music] gorgeous properly fast car anyway let’s get on to another be road now there’s a lot of traffic today actually so let’s go to a different one okay back into din into manual let’s go bit a wheel spin listen to that DSG thought sounds Wicked do it very rough British roads very rough coming down be roads like this is just this is where the TT is really just brilliant I mean you can go so much quicker down [Music] here I mean look at that front end grip really is good isn’t it plant your foot coming out of Corners just awesome [Music] brakes are good as [Music] well genuinely sounds good doesn’t it with the damping it’s just coming out of Corners one thing I couldn’t find is if this car actually has a diff but I don’t think it does I think it just uses like sort of the brakes but whatever it’s doing it freaking Works let’s just get a little DSG F Wicked the thing is you do get a bit of feedback from the steering as well well like when you hit undulations you do have to kind of like fight the car a bit what an awesome bit of kit it’s an Audi that puts a smile on your face for a front-wheel drive car that’s properly fast you’re limited by traction really you could go a lot faster down here in all honesty I mean look at that front end grip absolutely [Music] Mega lovely sound a two engine and obviously DSG this as close as you get to a Porsche pdk without actually buying a [Music] Porsche let’s get a little bit of sound through [Music] here just sounds Wicked doesn’t it it really does sound better than the TTS I think Audi made a bit of a mistake with this car give we get this exhaust okay hard on the brakes yeah brakes are Mega in this thing absolutely Mega and just look at that I want to see if we can get a bit of rotation out of this chassis it’s the only problem with Audi is they don’t tend to want to over steer that much unless you really really provoke them or you’re kind of on the right camber on a bit of road coming off a roundabouts it’s an absolute monster so fast up to the speed limit it’s annoying it makes everyone else feel like they’re driving very very slowly can get some rotation out of this chassis shall [Music] we a little bit not a lot though oh there we go bit of transition but it feels sporty to drive that’s the thing like it feels very tight very agile like the front end is super connected okay one last bash no come on there we go that was a little bit sideways I’ll give it that I think you just need more space to be honest oh yes and the gearbox is so fast on the downshifts that you’re always in the right gear I find with a zf8 speed especially in some older BMWs it can be a little bit slow to respond on the downshifts I love the sound of those gear shifts in this thing though absolutely awesome anyway I suppose we better wrap up the video there as always if you enjoy content like this This is a review I have been really waiting for, mine is a 2016 manual and I average 45mpg – but mainly it’s across country and very little urban driving – for 230bhp they seem to punch well above their weight. Great review of a very overlooked car. Mine will make a random exhaust crack on a fast change up at times (it’s a manual, so no DSG fart)

    3. i get 45 from my roadster. the roadster seems to me the better choice because its boot is nearly as big. i tried a 19 plate 40 but the 230 hp version was better imo and its also 5mph more efficient. pre facelift is the better version imo
