he’s really struggling here you can see him kind of shaking his head as well and that body language does worry me so I think yeah Caron I I’d be really surprised if he’s not suffering with some sort of sickness illness here which is just heartbreak or could be big heartbreak for Mark Cav looks very distressed doesn’t he even had the ice packed down the the back of his neck and so it really looks to be a problem with this extreme heat and sometimes with certain Riders it hits them more than others and on some days just hits you worse than other you expect him to be used to it though wouldn’t you you know these are somewhat home roads for him he’s got a place in in Florence he’s used to riding in the Heat and he would have that experience of knowing how to handle his body in in the heat something that the teams would have anticipated but on the road he’s he’s just shaking his head here he is and that’s in response to a radio conversation uh I’m afraid this does not look well at all and that’s more than spittle I’m afraid that’s being issued by Mark Cavendish um he’s not well Robbie no and that that’s something we touched on in the Breakaway earlier today Carlton talking about when when you’re dehydrated and you you’re trying to put enough fluids in to counter the the heat that you’re experiencing your stomach at a certain point so just no more I just can’t I can’t take it in but there’s sort of no choice at the moment you’ve got to put in and see what you can hold down and and I was just starting to think before I I wonder if there is an element of any illness because this is not just the normal sort of suffering we’ expect to see from a non- climber and a pure spr my heart is truly broken here for Mark cish and the team we’ve hyped this up haven’t we for so long since last year when he crashed out of the tour to France I’m almost crying it’s awful awful for Mark Cavendish and the team here there’s nothing really they can do in this situation either because his body is just saying no you can see him being sick on the bike it is just awful

  1. Strange. He looked great, was all smiles, and said he feels great in his interview just before the start today. I’m betting the climber’s teams just pushed the pace really hard right out of the gate since it’s hilly and potentially GC decisive, and it was too difficult for him to hold.

  2. That Wout has good doping, fell hard on the 27th of March. Broke multiple ribs, his collar bone and sternum and could not ride outdoor until the 14th of April.
Then 2,5 months later he wins the big sprint in the TDF in a stage with 3700 meters of climbing. This is utter bullshit without external help

  3. He probably did not train as much as usual for the mountain stages as the sprinters will all bail for week 3 since it's a pointless endeavor with the ridiculous climbing and no Paris. Also, appears Fabio Jakobsen also finished in this group so he's "in trouble" too.

  4. Cavencrash is the Arjen Robben of professional cycling.

He should have retired long ago instead of relying on stacked competition and the pity of real cyclists to gift him wins for a hollow victory. Deep down he'll always know they are as good a result as Armstrong's TDF wins.
