um question here uh the Rivalry between you and Jonas wingar has already become legendary in the tour um what does it mean for you personally uh that he has become ready to participate in in this race after his terrible crash I appreciate that rivalry because uh I respect him a lot and uh it’s good to see him uh in the start you didn’t pronounced uh the word victory in the previous uh answer uh do you think possible to to win the Tour of France two months after your big crash to be honest I don’t [Music] know it’s been such a bad crash that everything from here is a bonus and of course I have my hopes that it will happen and uh yeah we will see we we are uh far away from being the favorites I mean we we we are competing against as the the big Champions hopefully we can be all at our best and to to Really uh show the the cycling on the yeah highest level GC fights are uh 3 weeks not uh only two days so it’s uh it’s going to be a long journey but I think we uh we are prepared for [Music] it you’re here the world’s been waiting to see you uh back racing what does it mean to you to be on the start of the toour of France of course very nice to be here at the start again it’s a special for me especially after everything that [Music] happened it’s a race that means a lot not only for me but for the three of [Music] [Music] us R three ,600 M of climbing a brutal start to this tour to France 2024 here we go it took around 15 km for the Breakaway to form as nine Riders went up the road meanwhile in his first race since that terrible crash in the bass country country Jonas Wagar was held up by an early mechanical but the defending Champion was soon back in the bunch as the Breakaway embarked on the first climb the standout names up front were matate maharic and yon isir both stage winners last year Valentine madas and Ryan Gibbons were also along for the ride but the debutant Mato Veri was soon dropped and so too was Mark Cavendish but from the main pelan but this is not looking good for Mark Cavendish the climbs and the heat taking their toll Cavendish with his teammates at the top of the climb three minutes and 5 Seconds the pelan soon decided to ease off the gas allowing the Breakaway to open up a 5-minute Gap they were soon approaching the fourth of the day seven climbs with plenty of Italian fans out on the road at this point Cavendish suffering with a stomach bug was almost 15 minutes back but the time cut would be somewhere around 45 this is the battle for survival and the dream of project 35 and now UAE start to make life a little bit harder Tad patcha urging his team to up the tempo and they started to do some serious damage at the front of the bunch there were still five men going at the front madas maharic Gibbons Frank Fon Brook and Jonas abrahamson who was closing on the poka dot jersey5 big attack and it is Roman B who attacks B surging away and quickly joining up with his teammate fondon Brook in a tactical Master stroke from DSM fermanich post NL they soon caught and dropped madas and abrahamson at the front going clear with 40K to go they would have to resist to chasing Ben Healey and more importantly the chasing peltin after all there was a yellow Jersey on the line [Music] come on come on go go go go go come on 1 minute 10 seconds 11 between the front two and the p b chasing his dream 35 seconds Roman B is putting everything on the line everything to try and take yellow left hand turn they’re going to get to one kilm to go with 11 seconds red kite for the DSM pair can they hold on Vanden Brook now needs to Sprint Sprint flat out take his team leader give him a yellow Jersey and what a ride by this youngster 5 hours 6 minutes they look around one more time and they’re giving everything look at the pain on their faces everything is in there a whole dream is about to be created but look at the speed of the pelaton is a little bit disorganized as ret takes the front they’re nearly at the Finish Line are they going to make it can the Breakaway go all the way to the finish and win stage one of the toor to France ven Brook is the rider of the day but is his team leader going to be the Mayo Jean we look around now 250 M to go Roman B looks at his teammate now they just need to Sprint the pelaton are a matter of a few meters behind but it’s a b Blockbuster stage one first ever yellow jersey for the Frenchman the Breakaway makes it [Applause] a fourth Tour of France stage win for B and one that will live long in the [Applause] memory for the first time in his long and illustrious career he shrugs on the iconic yellow Jersey it was an MVP performance from VDB who announced himself to the world today he takes the green jersey well abrahamson is our first king of the mountains ahead of [Applause] madas fondon Brook is also the Race’s best young Rider while the third oldest man at the tour Cavendish lives to fight another day want
