    all right everyone 6 minutes after the hour we are following some other news some developing news for you tonight as groups in Cambridge they are calling on the city to boost Road Safety now this is all in the wake of the second deadly bicycle crash just in this month NBC 10’s M Michael Rosenfield is joining us right now he’s going to share what happened earlier today and what locals think should be done to make the streets of Cambridge safer Michael Colton this latest incident took place right here at this intersection near Kendall Square this morning this is the second similar crash that’s taken place here in Cambridge in just the last couple of weeks and tonight you can see someone has left some flowers here at the scene of this morning’s accident a tragic scene in Cambridge Friday morning after a box truck collided with a bicycle this particular intersection is stressful investigators say both the truck and the bicycle were heading in the same direction on Hampshire Street near Kendall Square as the truck turned onto Portland Street it collided with the bike the 24-year-old bicyclist a woman from Cambridge was killed this road alone in Hampshire Street there more than double the number of cyclists than there are people driving in personal vehicles during the peak rush hours this is the second similar incident just this month a 55-year-old woman from Florida was also killed in a collision with a turning box truck at an intersection near Harvard Square very preventable yeah it this is a public health problem bicyclist and advocacy group say a recent vote by the Cambridge City Council to delay expanding protection for bicyclists and pedestrians will only lead to more crashes we need more bike lanes and if that comes at the sacrifice of on street parking then so be it people’s lives are more important Advocates have been pushing for extending the bike lane infrastructure safer intersections and they say ballards like these should be made of concrete definitely had a lot of close calls uh the protected bike lanes are great but as we’ve seen now in the past few weeks um there are more things that we could do as for Friday’s incident the truck driver remained on the scene logos on the truck indicate its owned by bluin which is in seab Brook New Hampshire messages to the company have not been returned police haven’t said if that truck driver will be facing any charges right now everything is under investigation live in Cambridge tonight Michael Rosenfield nbc10 Boston

    1. as a life long rider that lived in somerville i can say its not the driver its the bicycle rider not paying attention and wearing ear buds. see it i live it the riders are horrible in 2024…KRISTINA REX!

    2. It’s always the motor vehicle drivers that are blamed first when someone on a bike is hit. A lot of the time it is the fault of the person on the bike. They drive like they own the road and follow whatever rules they feel like. They drive right through red lights, will not yield when they clearly know a vehicle is going to turn either right or left, some drive like they are in a race, passing other bikes and motor vehicles , a lot of them wear no protection at all. They should be held to the same standards that motorists are but they are not .
