Viking Coastal Trail, is an excellent cycling trail in Thanet, very scenic.

We have been planning this trip since around Apr this year, but due to work, it didn’t happen till June 2024.

Thanet District is approx 2.5 – 3 hrs northeast from the coast of Brighton and Hove, so the plan is to camp overnight, wake up the next morning have some breakfast, enjoy the sunrise, cycling the Viking Coastal Trail, enjoying the scenic spots thoroughout.

The coastal trail section is definitely a sight to behold, whilst the trail towards inland, journey after Cliffsend is less so, but still enjoyable. Overall there were about half a dozen or so hill climbs, most are off main roads.

The Hawk Place Campsite is right next to the Coastal Trail and is connected, very easy access to Minnis Bay and does offer pitches with and without electrical hookups. We booked 1 pitch (£21 in 2024) and is good for 2 tents with our cars parked nearby. It comes with basic facility like hot shower, clean drinking water, a portacabin converted into a kitchen with a kettle.

There are free parking in Minnis Bay too (for those looking to park and ride) and loads of coffee shops along the route.
