At the Wheels and Waves Festival in Biarritz/France in 2024, a record field of 16 motorcycles from 9 different European countries will compete for the favor of the visitors and, online on the website ‘hondacustoms.com’, for the honorable main prize of the most popular Honda CL 500 conversion.

In 2020, the CB1000R “Africa Four” from Swiss dealer Brivemo Motos was named the first hondacustoms.com winner. In 2021, Mototrafa’s creation “Fenix” from Portugal garnered the majority of online votes. In 2022, artfully modified CMX500 Rebel bikes caused a stir, with Sardinian customizer Motocicli Audaci’s creation “Maanboard” coming out on top. Finally, in 2023, minibikes took center stage and the winner, the post-apocalyptic modified Dax Furisoa – a collaboration between artist Tamara Alves (@tamara_aalves) and Art of Wheels Garage (@artonwheelsgarage) – handed the win back to Portugal.

Honda’s custom bike competition has become an annual event that gives full freedom to the imagination – both in real life and online – and is also becoming increasingly popular. In the summer of 2023, for example, the website ‘hondacustoms.com’ recorded over 21,000 visitors casting their votes on the minibike theme, an increase of 41% over the previous year.

2024 is set to build on the positive response – this time with the Honda CL500 as a conversion object, which offers a lot of driving fun in scrambler style thanks to the lively and A2-compliant two-cylinder engine. The CL500 is recommended as a great bike for beginners and individualists, and offers a wealth of options for personal modifications.

Voting begins with the Wheels and Waves event in mid-June. May the best bike win. The following CL conversions will participate in the 2024 Honda Custom Bike Competition:

    Enduro 500 – Spain
The Enduro 500 from Honda dealer Stilmoto is a tribute to classic Spanish enduro motorcycles and thus to an outstanding, even golden era in motorcycle history.

    Cherry Lady – Spain
In keeping with the timeless appearance of the Honda Seven Fifty from the 90s, the aim here is to preserve the historical essence of the brand with the wing logo.

    CL501R – Spain
The inspiration for the CL501R – built by Honda Moto Center Leon – came from the flat-track sport that is popular in the USA.

    Moonground – Portugal
The motto for this conversion was ‘Slim & Lean’. The CL500 Moonground from the Portuguese dealer Garonda is an individually modified bike.

    Oceans’ Track – France
The Honda dealership ‘Oceane Motos’ from the coastal town of Le Havre has built the CL500 Oceans’ Track, which is attractively colorful in flat-track style with a touch of stunt bike.

    CL500 Digger – France
The Honda CL500 Digger from Chave Motos is a tribute to Honda XL and XR machines of the 1980s.

    CL500 Charade Spirit – France
Charade Moto, a Honda dealer in Aubière near Clermont-Ferrand, has given the CL500 Charade Spirit a decorative tricolour paint job and a rustic off-road touch for inspired field, forest and meadow excursions.

    Bik’ink – France
A street scrambler in the style of the 70s – that’s how the plan for the CL500 Bik’ink from dealer AZ Moto Honda in Rouen can be described.

    Irezumi – France
Reduced on the one hand, but lavishly decorated on the other – the CL500 from Starbike Honda is a kind of heavenly creation.

    Poseidon Project – UK
The CL500 project ‘Poseidon’ (underwater god from Greek mythology) was created by Doble Motorcycles in London as a tribute to the natural beauty of the oceans.

    Sterrato 500 – Italy
Unit Garage, an equipment and customising company from a mountain village not far from Riccione, has increased the off-road potential of the CL500 with the “Sterrato” (“gravel road” in Italian) in a practical way and at the same time underlines its historical scrambler roots.

    Terra Battuta 500 – Italy
The Terra Battuta 500, also converted by Unit Garage, aims to be a stylish country road all-rounder that is also suitable for longer trips and tours and is basically intended to make life on the road easier and more pleasant.

    CL Surfer – Germany
The custom bike, converted by the Honda Center in Frankfurt, shines with a silver metallic tank, fenders with blue stripes and clip-on handlebars.

    Flat Track 500 – Belgium

    Bunker imPrint – Türkiye
A welcome new addition to the custom competition for 2024 is Turkey. Bunker Custom Cycles has converted a CL250 into a retro café racer.
