Today we have Jorja kindly letting us have a peek into a mock test we did.

All the faults are shown on screen and explained as they happen. Keep in mind that this is a mock test and as such I am not allowed to help the candidate at all unless it is safety critical.

okay hello everyone and welcome to George’s mock test so up in the top left as per usual you will see the minor and serious count we’re going to get started here in just one moment at the moment I’m asking Georgia all about how she’s going to check her brake lights she gives me the right answer for this which is of course that you can either use Reflections or just have somebody behind you have a look when you press on the pedal dead easy starting off today’s test with a reverse Bay Park so I’ve asked her to pick any Bay she likes to look of on the left and reverse into it she is going to pick up her first fault quite soon here she’s going to do the 45 degree method now if you look in the rear view mirror at the moment you’ll see a car is slowly approaching us from behind fortunately for her the car does slow down notice us do this but Georgie does not check her right mirror here before she moves out to the right which means we have held that car up a little bit now if that car had been a little bit closer or a little bit speedier this could very easily have been a serious fault for obs a on this occasion I’ve just given her a minor as I don’t feel that we caused the car to react too suddenly to us and it was far enough away but contextual could have been a serious very easily this is I think the second or third time George is trying the 45 Dee method we normally go with the 90 on the test but 45 is absolutely a valid way of doing it not a problem at all she does do good observations here she’s just having a little think about how to get herself into the space I’m glad that she’s taking the time to do this there’s absolutely no rush at all here obviously there is a wall in front of us so she’s being fortunately very careful not to hear that which I’m quite happy about in a moment she’s hopefully going to pop into reverse she’s going to do all of her observations left to right including her blind spots which she does very very well and momentarily she’s going to reverse very nicely into the space and hopefully finish within the lines as she is reversing here again she is taking a time she is making good effective 360° observations all around around the car including her blind spots you might have noticed up in the rearview mirror or side to side at the moment there are a couple of cars waiting here for us but as we reverse into this space we are blocking the road and there’s not really anything we can do about it so Georgia is correct to carry on the important thing is that she’s looking around and she’s noticed these cars so if they do try to creep through at any point she’d be ready to react and step on the break if she needs to she just double checking she can see the back of the bay here in the mirrors which she can she’s lined herself up very nicely for this cars coming she does pause briefly as it comes past I’m happy enough with that and she’s getting herself very nicely into the bay very nicely scented within the lines here again you can see the shadow of another car about to appear from the left I think can’t quite remember what they’re doing either way we’re all good here she’s done a very nice job with her maneuver just that one little mirror check would have been nice at the start apart from that all looking quite good Georgia shortly we’ll be carrying on ofasa to move out to the right whenever she is you’re ready to do so nice sunny afternoon in dundy today live an awkward time to do a test Sun can get down in your eyes as it gets to this time there’s some really tricky roads which I don’t think we take Georgia on today but you can sometimes get the sun right in your eyes which can be a little bit difficult she keeps it nice and control as we come out here does all our observations around the car quite happy with that as we come up to this little bit here you’re going to notice that she does gradually drift over to the right hand side a little bit you’ll notice that the white lines for these spaces jump out suddenly now obviously we’ve got to make our way through that little gate at the end so I don’t mind her positioning over to the right a little bit but I feel like we do go a little bit too close to these lines on the right to the point where we do just kind of end up gliding along that line there which I don’t really want her to do so that is a minor there for normal driving position following this round to the left now which is the only way we can go at the end of the road ask Georgia to turn left checks the mirrors pops the signal on or all absolutely fine waits for a nice little Gap here nothing wrong with this can sometimes be a slightly busy road not too challenging today reasonably nice time in the afternoon does an absolutely fine job with this as we emerge here we have emerged onto a 40 mph road which does a nice job of building our speed up you can see there’s not anybody behind us that we’re holding up so we’ve obviously waited for a very nice Gap there driving along this road not too much really happens here so I might speed this a little bit of footage up she does a nice job with this makes her way up to the speed limit you can see dash cam saying that we’re going sort of 35 36 here that’ll be reading 40 mph inside the car quite happy with that doesn’t exceed the speed limit that’s the important thing she got good awareness of our speed here very well controlled row position is looking absolutely fantastic as well no issues to talk about here so we’re going to speed this up just a little bit until we get to something more interesting those of you paying particularly close attention might have noticed Georgia just got her show me question which was to clean the front wind screen when it was safe to do so she did that absolutely fine on the approach of this roundabout then I have asked Georgia to turn right she’s going to do this quite nicely nothing really too interesting to talk about here apart from the fact that she does a Flippin good job of it so she checks her mirrors she pops her signal on nice and early you can see she slowed down in good time she’s positioning herself over to the right all good things we want to see can be a little bit busy sometimes here she does a good job of spotting where all the cars are going there was a cheeky car there that wasn’t signaling but was pointed to the left and she did a great job of spotting that picking out this Gap checks the mirrors pops a signal on at a good time notice she’s taking her time on this corner as well it is a bit of a sharp corner gets nasty just as you get to that little turn just there she does a nice job of positioning herself here keeps her speed under control isn’t tempted to rush around it you can see we even have the Formula 1 style guard rails along here to really warn you that these Corners are are probably a little bit worse than they look coming along this road shortly I’m going to ask Georgia to turn right before that she’s got to deal with these Park cars does a wonderful job here keeps a distance checks the mirrors checks the mirrors back as well I’ve asked her to take the next road on the right now this one can be a little bit tricky we do have a protected right hand turnbox here the road naturally follows round to the left the trick here is to notice that you don’t turn before the yellow Ballard on the right you have to go past the yellow Ballard that’s why it’s there with a little blue arrow on but also notice you have to give way to people coming from the left here she does get a little bit close to the hatch markings in front of her there but she has stopped before them so not a big problem does a nice job waiting for the traffic to come around you can see this is even confusing the other drivers who have no idea what’s going on because they’re all signaling right when they do not need to be the road just follows around that way however it’s not misleading so they’d probably get away with it she does a lovely job of this makes her way into the new road all looking good so far even though I know Georgia is not F of that Junction it’s almost like that’s why I took her there fter to take the next road on the left this can be a little bit of a fun one bit of a hill start hot spot this one fun little cycle Lane here with some studs to avoid before we deal with all that again mirrors and Signal are all good here nothing to worry about as this is the hillst hot spot it would be remiss of me not to get Georgia to do one so I have asked her to pull up on the left here can be a bit of a sneaky one because you’ve got the bus stop just behind us you got the junction just here and this would have been quite a nice place to pull up however Georgia was a little bit hesitant here it’s not really a fault I would kind of like to to have pulled up here to do a hill start but she gets a little bit concerned that she can’t pull up behind these cars and as we’re a little bit closer to the Junction now I I do just ask her to carry on has been a bit of a recurring thing for Georgia not realizing how quickly she can pull over something we have worked on a little bit and we might have to have a little bit of a chat about again but she does redeem herself later so it’s okay at the roundabout I’ve asked her to go straight ahead again deals with this quite nicely can be a bit of a tricky one going uphill does a lovely job with the speed here mirrors and Signal all good coming along here lots of part cars now to dodge or at least to keep away from does a good job of this as well we are looking for a doors width from all of the cars on the left here gets a bit narrow as she goes through the little island here as well does a nice job of this again quite a nice job of the roow position there’s a man throwing something in front of the car there we’re having a bit of a laugh about this as we went past no idea what that was about has a perception good things to be keeping an eye out for goodness knows what that could have been anyway at the roundabout I’ve asked George to turn right again you notice this bit is all quite uphill can be a bit of tricky one if you come into this in too high a gear it is really tricky to get going again her mirors and Signal are well timed is a nice empty roundabout she looks nice and early positions well speed is great she enters roundabout positions herself very well nice and close to the middle but not tooo close it’s a third exit here that white car’s going to sneak in front of us again mir’s and Signal well timed she’s keeping a nice consistent speed round the roundabout so she’s not confusing the people behind her or causing them to react to us exactly what we want to see ask Georgia to take the second road on the left now which is not the one with white car here but is the one just after these traffic lights seeing as we didn’t get to do our Hill start in our favorite spot I’m going to ask her to do one shortly along this little road a little bit of a backup spot Junction approach all very good here so far George is doing quite well just two tiny little miners nothing too exciting to worry about yet see again nice little Hill here fortunately this little bit’s been ConEd off I think they’re doing some work on the pavement or something exciting so gives us a nice little chance to have a little pull up here the downside is that Georgia is unfortunately about to get to her second minor she has pulled up very nicely with the left signal running as she cancels the signal though notice there’s a black car just passing us from behind when she’s canceled the signal she’s knocked the indicator stalk just a little bit too far the other way and it did do a few clicks the other way as we pulled up there which could have confused that black car into thinking we were moving off when we weren’t we were trying to pull up there so that is a minor for an incorrect signal good news is she does do a very nice Hill start here lovely observations all around good mirrors good signal all that good stuff no issues at all with that and goodness knows what they’re doing for that pavement well it’s probably about time knowing done de cancel rest of this road chandel’s absolutely fine nothing to worry about here at the end of the road we’ve got a slightly funky Hill a little bit of a favorite one it’s a very steep one that’s going to go down quite sharply the way I phrase this is is at the end of the road I’d like you to turn left and then immediately right now one thing to be aware of here is that you do have to treat this as two separate roads you cannot wait for the both sides of the road to be clear there is room for us to fit our car entirely in the new road before we turn right thus we should do that to avoid holding up traffic from behind does this nicely waits for a gap from the right positions itself here then waits for a gap from the oncoming [Music] traffic now this is quite a steep hill as you’re about to see oneway Road Steep Hill George is doing a fantastic job of controlling her speed here using her gears she keeps it in first gear which obviously Will Keep Us nice and slow down the hill however this is still a 30 mph Road and if you glance down at the bottom of the screen here you’ll notice that she’s not really going much faster than 13 15 16 maybe miles an hour from what the card be reading inside on the speedometer now unfortunately this is a little bit slow for 30 mph Road I know it’s a very big hill I know you want to control your speed but we do still want to make a little bit of progress so unfortunately I have given her a minor here for progress and use of speed the end of the road now we’re going to be turning left again M and Signal all good she’s gotten very good at these always there where they need to be exactly what we want to see can be a slightly funky busy road again if there’s not a gap though you can’t go can’t wave magic wand there be a gap in the traffic if there is not a gap you just have to sit there and wait and there is nothing wrong with that at [Music] all fortunately clouds are started to obscure the sun ever so slightly making this a little bit easier at the next roundabout I’ve asked Georgia to turn right now have a little look at the lanes here and have a look where she is she’s in the straight a head Lane but she does currently have a right signal running there’s a van now on our right hand side and at this point Georgia realizes her mistake and does something very sensible I’ve asked her to ter right but instead she cancels her signal and she decides to go straight ahead instead she does look at me and ask me for a bit of guidance here and all I do is very helpfully say do what you think is safe which is about as much help as the examiners will give you as well as she has done something safe it is not a driving fault for going the wrong way instead she just gets a minor for having a right signal running on the approach to the roundabout which she shouldn’t have had for going ra ahead now here Georgia starts to get a little bit flustered I’m going to pause the video just here for a second you can see there’s quite a sharp corner in front of us you can just about see beyond that car there’s a little arrow pointing to the left there now the direction I’ve given Georgia here is at the roundabout to turn right it’s a little bit of a tricky one you can see from this angle there is a junction on the right hand side here before the corner there which does catch a few people out however the big problem here is that that Georgia is still thinking about what just happened to that previous roundabout whereas now we’ve got a sharp corner a junction a roundabout on a hill with very limited visibility all these things that we need to be thinking about now she’s sitting here going oh no this is the end of the world I’ve made a mistake I’m going to fail the test and I’m sitting there going actually she’s done something really safe and it’s just a minor something that you have to be able to do on the test is to take anything that you think’s happened and put it behind you drive to the best of your ability and just knock it out the park for the rest of the test because you just don’t know what’s going to happen till you get back to the test center now because she’s still thinking about the previous roundabout she’s not really given her full attention to this next Corner she does notice as she’s coming past here that she’s got the wrong signal on but again this now starts her thinking oh no I’ve made another mistake we’ve got the mistake at the previous roundabout we’re going to have the mistake with this Junction what she needs to be thinking now is roundabout it’s the only things you should be thinking about if you start dwelling on these little mistakes because yeah okay you’ve got your sign on running past the junction but it’s just a minor it’s not the end of the world now let’s carry on watching this and see what happens here so as I’ve already said she is going to pick up another minor here for having a signal on a little bit too early now as we’re coming up to the roundabout again she’s in the mindset now of worrying about these previous Junctions and roundabouts there’s a couple of cars here got ourselves a little bit flustered there is nothing coming at this roundabout now we need to be getting ourselves moving on here there is a little stall it’s a little bit hard to see from the camera I think it’s just there eventually she does get herself moving off again I can’t double Mark faults they won’t double Mark faults on the test so I’ve given her a minor here for stalling it could have easily been a fault for hesitation as well again either of these possibly examin as judgment could go down as a serious fault because we have stopped at a completely empty roundabout again just down to context don’t let your mistakes catch you out don’t start getting inside your head got to stay focused on what’s in front of you don’t worry about the little mistakes because they could very easily have turned serious okay on the bright side now Georgia is doing a very good job of this road now position is wonderful speed’s great looking good there’s some traffic lights coming up here just before we get to Tesco just ask to go straight ahead nothing too crazy for now these traffic lights can be a little bit strange you do need the right hand lane here to go straight ahead is well marked in advanced though so it’s not too bad to see the thing that can catch some people out is there is a little filter light to the left hand side this one is just a pedestrian Crossing not the one we’re talking about you see the one in front of us here there is a little filter light on the left hand side which can trick people into turning left sorry into going when it turns green that’s not going to happen here if you watched my last mock test video you might remember this is where Duncan picked up a very amusing series fault for trying to drive into the oncoming Lane as well which is a little bit less clear but still clear enough that he shouldn’t have done it you can see that filter lights just come on there now and you can see if we were to go here when we saw that light go green for any reason we’d be in big trouble once this traffic does clear we’re going to see that George is going to do a rather good job of this following the car in front makes it a little bit easier because you can see they’re going to make a beline for curb on the left as they quite correctly should you can see those white lines there for the oncoming Lane don’t get confused if you’re ever confused just always go as far left as you possibly can you’ll never be wrong now coming up to this next roundabout I know it’s a little way off yet you can’t quite see it on the video I have asked Georgia to turn right you can just see the coming up there now have a look yourself here do you think this looks like a nice open clear roundabout where our view is really clear cuz to me I think we’re coming in a little bit fast here what you’re going to notice you can’t quite see on the camera but Georgia breaks quite sharply here because a car appears on the right hand side now we didn’t have to stop for that car but the problem was because of the speed we were going we didn’t have time to assess that so I have given her there a minor for approach speed to the roundabout got to watch that approach speed if it’s closed come to a stop or at least a very very slow crawl there again now we’ve made a little mistake she’s aware of that we’ll talk about this roundabout in just a second but the more interesting thing here is that she’s going to come to a stop in a second what she’s not going to realize here is that she has left the car in third gear now at this point I looked down at the gear stick and I’m sat here going oh dear here we go we’re about to come on to this very busy roundabout in third gear it’s a stall waiting to happen and something rather spectacular is going to happen now we’ll talk about that when it happens in just a moment obviously here we have the Myer roundabout Infamous very busy positioning his everything on this round about what Georgia needs to be doing is keeping herself over to the right hand side here we’ll talk about that in just a moment back to the gears thing though currently we are moving off in third gear and you’ll notice we are very slow but somehow thanks to the Vox Hall course’s incredibly well-designed gearbox and George’s very very gentle left foot on the clutch she does actually manage to move off here in third gear so I have just given her a minor which I was not expecting she deals with this really nicely I would like to have seen a move over to the left here a little bit earlier I normally say aim for the orange bit of road but there were some cars blocking the right hand lane even though she was forced over here she did check all her mirrors before she moved over it was all absolutely fine there worst case it should come off in the right hand lane as long as she check the mirrors to move back over it doesn’t go down as a fault so just the one for the gears there it could however that one very very easily have turned into a serious fault if I had to come in there and remind her she was in third gear definitely wasn’t going to be a good result for it as it stands though just a minor now there’s a couple along here that we have said now could have been serious faults so little things to watch out for a little bit of luck on the day is never a bad thing now as we’re driving along the king’s way you can see we’re following this blue van in front of us or Lori I’m not entirely sure what it is from this point of you I feel like at this point we do just get a little bit close to the lorri you can see she has eased off a little bit but there was a moment here where we did get within our 2 seconds you can see Georgia if you watch it back does get up to sort of 46 47 which is fine for the speed of the road it’s absolutely well within the speed limit but it was just a tiny bit close for my liking it wasn’t within our 2 seconds so I have given her a minor here for clearance as well to the car in front the rest of the road she deals with quite nicely no reason to be over taking it it wasn’t going slow enough I’ve asked her to take the next exit along here which she’s going to do quite nicely checks the mirrors pops a signal on we’re aware of that van behind us which does speed up a little bit for a moment then realizes we’re also coming off and doesn’t do anything crazy so that’s all fine lots of exciting Road Works going on up ahead fortunately I’ve been quite nice and giving Georgia the easy Direction here you can see the left Lane’s closing I’ve asked her to turn right anyway which makes her life quite easy because that Lane’s closing there’s no reason for her to be over there she’s absolutely right to be driving in the right hand lane here especially once I’ve given her the direction to turn right she should absolutely be in this Lane these roundabouts can be quite busy again if there’s not a gap you cannot magic up a gap do not go just wait for a safe Gap fortunately today we don’t have to wait for long there’s nothing there at all which makes a very nice change for this round of pal as we come around here it is going to be the next exit so at this point she could be checking her mirrors popping a signal on moving over really early she does leave it a little bit late to move over but it’s not the end of the world as long as you’ve checked and there’s nobody coming past it’s absolutely fine next roundabout we’re turning right again mirrors signal all good stuff here no one coming so I’m not expecting her to stop which she doesn’t she carries on which is fantastic no hesitation here today mirrors and Signal off all well timed nice consistent speed around the roundabout all the things we’re looking for positions well in the new road building a speed up nicely as we come along here it’s occasionally a few little things to watch out for you can see there’s word slow on the roads there some pedestrian Crossings there are some kind of hidden Junctions especially this time of year when all the leaves fall at the Junctions it can be a little bit tricky to see where some of the lines are worth keeping an eye out for a little bit of a funny thing here where we come across these pedestrians who look like they’re ready to run in front of any car at moment’s notice and I think in a moment this lady does yep not far off she was prepared for it though we were talking about it in the car as it was happening now coming along here as well we quite often get par cars on the left here Georgia does a nice job of this checks the mirrors moves out with a little signal because it is a dual carriageway normally I say to change lane there and then change back properly but it doesn’t really matter as long as everybody else is aware of what you’re doing and you’re not impeding them that is absolutely fine next roundabout we’re going straight ahead you can see we’ve got a choice of two lanes here she quite correctly chooses the left most Lane out of the two that go straight ahead which is the Middle Lane on this occasion see we’ve got a car on our right hand side we do need to be a little bit careful with our position she positions absolutely perfectly on this roundabout she doesn’t cut the person up on her left she gives that car on her right plenty of room 10 out of 10 for that roundabout at the next one I’ve asked her to turn right we are coming towards the end of the test now as I’ve asked her to turn right you can see she’s holding off on her speed just a little bit which is fine she’s waiting to change lane here and you can see we’ve got the cars ahead of us walking us from going any faster anyway when you are trying to change lane it’s usually a good idea to try and match the speed of the lane you’re trying to join make life nice and easy we didn’t have much of a choice there though that was fine again mirrors and Signal all absolutely fine sometimes a slightly busy roundabout some of you might recognize this one if you don’t then when you’re asked to go straight ahead here which we’re not doing today you can’t quite see it on the camera there but there is a nasty little bus lane that can catch people out on that one worth having a little look for just to finish off the test then I’ve asked her to turn right here into little now if you look just past the lights here you can see there’s a little protected right hand turn box it is a small one but it does exist I would like her to be positioned in that just now because you’ll notice there are a couple of cars behind us if we were positioned in that box now we could be we wouldn’t be holding those cars behind us up they’d be able to sneak past on the left fortunately that car lets us go I don’t think it was anything that put any body at danger so I have just given her a minor for that not the end of the world but I would like to see her position in those boxes a little bit more clearly just going to finish off by driving forwards into a little space here before we have a chat about what’s happened so on the hall today not a terrible Drive George’s control of the car and her awareness of the road in general really really good biggest problem is got to be so careful not to let things get to you not to let things fluster you because you can see the first half of the drive we’ve done today really really quite nice one single fault I think for observations on that maneuver very very little until it started going a little bit pearshaped when I asked her to ter right at the roundabout after that we started getting a bit distracted and we started making a few really silly mistakes on things that we would never normally make mistakes on you might also notice have done a slightly shorter test today it’s not much shorter than the test would be but it is a little bit shorter just because of um we had an hour and a half or so and we needed to get Georgia back home so we didn’t quite have time to do a full length mock test so the way it’s been Mark today would have been 11 minors which would technically be a pass however that comes with a very strong caveat of there were one or two there that could very very easily have been serious faults as we discussed when they happened little things to watch out for on top of the fact that we’re only allowed up to 14 miners on the day and if we had to run the test another 5 10 minutes or so with the way things were going and if Georgia was a little bit distracted there was the potential to pick up a couple more faults there I’d like to see a few less miners in this I think George has shown us that she can actually drive really quite well she’s very in control just needs to keep that head straight on top of her shoulders and she should be absolutely fine on the day as usual thank you very much for watching if you’ve got any questions at all please feel free to leave them below do all those magic things that YouTube loves you to do thank you very much for watching and I will see you in the next one
