modern retro or something in between whatever it is we like it we welcome the ionic 5 and Ben Quirk welcome to Planet auto well it looks like Summer’s finally here and what a car to experience it in or should I say CUV believe it or not this offers the same space as a d segment vehicle so essentially it’s an SUV car Best of Both Worlds is it quick yes not to 60 it claims around 54 but in all honesty it’s closer to 44 all-wheel drive Twin Motors so you got one at the front and one at the rear now that depends on trim range well we got I think it’s about 268 on the full charge but it then takes into account how you’ve been driving it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s over 300 if this is the future of electric cars well there’s going to be a lot more people signing up as for charging now we’ve got our home charger we were putting kilowatt hour on for around 10 p in which case it becomes mightily efficient now you just look at it and think is it retro is it modern do I see influences of old things like the pixel lights it’s such a design statement it really is trims this actually starts at just under £50,000 that’s a lot of car for the money and that’s with a premium then you’ve got the ultimate that we’ve got which comes all singing and dancing then you’ve got the Nam San Edition and that’s top of the range but to be honest the ultimate carries everything you’ll ever need and yes you can do things like vehicle to load it’s got 800 volt architecture which means you get I think it’s 80% in around 18 minutes and if you can only charge for say 5 minutes you’ll get 65 miles the mine boggles This is actually Hyundai’s first beat EV and it’s built on egmp now you might recognize that from one of the vehicles that we had last year yeah the Kia ev6 so they’re both built on the same platform and the benefit of being on a custom platform means that none of the batteries or technology takes up the cabin space so in a word it’s cavernous which is perfect for the family but when it’s still got the engaging side that you find in a sporty hot hatch I mean a lot of it due to the weight because the batteries are pretty damn heavy the thing is it’s still a pliable ride anyway we’ll take a deeper look at that in the driving section where do you start you see modern influences but you can see classic design language as well it just looks Sinister the minimalist looks with the smooth curves just makes this I mean the clamshell Bonnet flared arches it’s got a presence it’s only when you look a little deeper that you can see the this is tucked in under the Bonnet the integration and it’s such a clean design there’s no garish intakes but it still has intake technology to make it more efficient and then you’ve got your pixel lights automatic all singing and dancing as you’d expect safety well it’s Hyundai so yeah all singing and dancing Collision mitigation blind spot detection pedestrian detection yeah has a fair few detection systems now we don’t have a front camera but we do have parking sensors as for the sideo I don’t think a 20-in wheel has ever looked so at home even the 45 profile tire and a Mitchum it’s almost like it’s moving when it Stood Still I really love these I could just sit and look at it I remember the first time I saw it it just well it conjures up so many thoughts and memories of classic cars and you can just see influences Here There and Everywhere and because of it it appeals to so many people and this it reminds me of DeLorean all it needs is all gling doors mind you that might be a little Overkill especially as it’s a four that’s the thing it’s the perfect family car but its credentials massively surpass that blush door handles and the aerodynamics on the mirrors yet again all for efficiency and that’s the one thing you want out of your electric car tints now they’ve been a life sa carrying around 4 and 1/ half G with a mountain bike you’re a bit the only worry is the color of the Interior it’s beautiful but you don’t want to get oil on it it’s the perfect lifestyle vehicle yeah it suits a family of well realistically five let’s take a look inside push this in and it pops out now that’s a wide door opening and immediately soft touches and the first time I climbed in it I thought why is it not got a door handle and then you realize it’s here it’s touches like that that make me think o that’s clever this is made from recycled material paper ret used with vegetable oil and then you’ve got this big padded armrest climbing in Child’s Play Love It the cluster from the ev6 Fantastic nice and clear you can see everything and a glance and a rotary for the volume for your radio and proper buttons they’ve not simplified it too much they’ve still left functionality that you can actually go clunk click now the first thing that struck me was how do you put it in drive and it’s here drive neutral part reverse switch gear it feels good chunky indicators and you’ve got your paddles here for your regen now no conventional handbrake but the electronic one is here and you get used to it pretty quickly and we can adjust the height of the lights so it can tow too it’s modern mixed with classic like the curvature here reminds me of classic design language whereas the vents and if you’ve noticed they’re not dust traps it’s like a minimalist futuristic feel I suppose blended with retro electric seats and that’s on the drivers and the passengers and height adjustment on both too lumbar bet no massage that would have been the icing on the cake now that’s solid proper clunk grab handle I haven’t got one but all the other doors have you climb in and you feel ooh premium finishes good solid build quality throughout lovely Sumptuous comfortable suppored heated and ventilated seats and the impact on Range negligible such a clean design due to the color now you will find hard plastics but up here wow that’s warm it’s all soft touch that’s it everything’s been thought of when it comes to the seats well they’re made from I think it’s wool leather plastic bottles and vegetable oil never thought you’d hear that in a car now a car’s not a car without a carat with these they’re made from McConnell and that uses recycled nylon from fishing nets and Marine waste manufacturers now they’re far more into the sustainability they may sound like buzzwords but when they go into making an interior that’s this good well it makes you think I see these as a cross between an SUV an MPV and a car it makes makes great use of the space it may not be the tallest windscreen but you can see everything you need cup holders USBS wireless charging pad masses of space lovely armrest that’s adjustable there’s even storage in that digital display for your airon it’s such a comfortable driving position 6′ 3 well no problem and I can even drop the seat sporty pedals and a decent footrest infotainment decent size responsive it’s very simple to use it’s intuitive Apple carplay Android auto navigation apps and dab and the sound systems banging not surprising considering it’s Bose look at that yeah it’s a glove box but not as we know it Jim exactly I do like the speaker that’s it there’s so many quirky aspects driving modes here nice and straightforward to use sport normal and Eco and to be honest I’ve actually been using Eco because sport is brutal but it’s fun cluster straightforward you can see when you putting power down you can see when you’re regening you can see your safety systems media and yes we do have a heads up display if you like this type of video why not subscribe to the channel just hit the button on the right hand side it’s free and you’ll get an alert every time we upload also if you do like the video why not give it a like it all helps and it means we can get more cars thank you I just can’t get over this design the rear haches and then you’ve got it’s like a chrome finish it makes it stand out not that it really needs to because it does in its own raw form anyway brakes excellent discs all around and as you’d expect pretty Advanced braking system now I’ve been weighing up whether to climb in we’ll go straight to the charging flap because that is this car’s party trick okay rapid type two home or emergency as it’s now let’s step into the rear nice wide opening door virtually 90° door cards finished the same as the front love it climbing in Du my head a little bit but apart from that look at the leg room considering this is set for me and I’m sat behind me that’s pretty good however we can make it better sliding seats as well as reclining seats plus these are even thinner than conventional Hyundai seats adjustable seat belts airbags around the vehicle now we’re not going to use these today but you’ve got heated seats it’s just built to such a premium standard I’ve just realized I said that you can get your feet under the seats but the other thing is this is as low as it’ll go you can still get your feet under the seats if we look at the passenger seat they could park a car under there supportive seats like the front nice armrest I suppose there’s an element of bucket to them which is needed with this power train Center light it’s amazing how many manufacturers actually emit one of those it’s so light and Airy it would have been nice to see panoramic a clever thing with the seats is this one slides alternatively to this one so if you had say a bigger load in the back then you wouldn’t have to restrict all the seating Storage Point here two USBS and you could put a little bag here I always think this is a really cool feature to have the vents built into the pillar it means you get better airf flow excellent work Hyundai and now to arguably the best feature of the car pixel so the way that they illuminate and it looks immense it just takes me back to 80s Video Games big chunky rear spoiler High love bright light the additions of gloss you’ve just got to love this paint job haven’t you it looks superb it looks so futuristic yet retro when you combine the colors and The Styling even the shaping with the vents here rear diffuser styling one of my favorites you get parking sensors you get a reversing camera and cross traffic alert it’s a great system it’s good to see that it’s got doors that cover the Sills because when you look at its height it makes it rather capable capable especially with the all whee drive system let’s take a look in the back power tailgate I can either operate it with a button on the dash the key fob or the good oldfashioned button I can virtually stand under it oh no I’ve not moved my arms safety first things first no boot lip reinforced plastic makes it easy to load also means that you can just slide things in no problem got our charging cables here but if we lift this up Tire Mobility kit and you’ve got your home charger if you’ve noticed there’s a lip either side and you just and it pops in the thing is it’s still a pretty big boot get your shopping in there suitcases and we can slide the seats further forward it will restrict a bit of room in the back but it increases your boot space Also move this load cover back to the next Notch now interestingly no shopping bag hooks I did find that a surprise but we’ve got boot light and tethering hooks they are plastic but they’re anchored to the body so they’re pretty sturdy let’s drop the seats nice and straightforward the interesting thing is you can’t do it from up here because it’s where we reclined before we pull this and then fold forward Tada and if you put it down enough it locks in place bit of a gap here but to be honest with a big load it’s not going to be a problem so sadly as this is an electric vehicle there seems to be no stowing point for the load cover v2l so vehicle to load which means you can plug this in and then you can run things like coffee machines charge electric bikes recently I think it was Genesis that ran a whole DJ Knight using I think it was two GV 60s and in case you’re wondering who Genesis are they’re the premium division of Hyundai let’s take a look under the bonnet I’m intrigued to know if it’s got a frunk and the release is here to open slide left struts love it and a FR you can see it at a glance everything’s nicely refined there’s even housing around here nice and easy to see where to top up your fluid oh this is a bit toasty I can feel the Reg J oh quiet isn’t it [Music] yeah interesting to see what that’s like outside it’s refined though isn’t it it is ultra quiet in here yeah no bumps and bangs so you’re not feeling any potholes it’s very nice the Region’s awesome nice decent weight at 3 pretty quick yep oh ly possessed up what sorry lame departure warning there I put it in eye pedal so that’s one pedal driving and does it work yes it does this is quite steep oh that’s Sport and you feel it ready itself Eco so let’s do a range check seeing as we’ve just started our road trip we’ve used two miles and done about two bit wobbly there guys sorry wobble wob 100% IS 268 mil it is in this temperature obviously it’s going to drop in winter and it was 265 wasn’t it it was so putting it in sport 249 so that’s not as much as yeah I was going to say I could quite happily drive all the way to harria in sport mode yeah back to Eco yes I understand well it looks like Ben’s had to go back into eco mode mind you that’s not the end of The Saga now if you’d like to know more about the ionic 5 and see more of our adventures click here to see our road trip thanks for watching

Hello all – please bear in mind that this review was filmed last year, so the prices are now as follows: Premium Trim = £43,445.00 Ultimate Trim = £49,945.00 Namsan Edition = £54,445.00 Thank you, and enjoy.
About as much use to those who can’t charge at home , me , as a dartboard would be to my cat . It’s crying out for a 2ltr turbo under the bonnet . For anyone that’s mad enough, used ones start at well under 20 grand .
I've got the original Ioniq, and it's a great car, but they've progressed so quickly. Amazing thing.
‘That’s a lot of money for the car’ – there, fixed that for you!
I have a 2024 Ioniq 5 and am waiting for the delivery of a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance.
Tesla and Hyundai (and Kia) are leading the way in the electric vehicle era.
Personally, I hope that under the leadership of these two companies, manufacturers from countries like Germany, Japan, and China will rapidly develop, enabling more people to purchase electric vehicles at prices comparable to conventional internal combustion vehicles.
While driving an electric vehicle certainly saves on fuel costs, the high price of the car and increased insurance premiums offset the savings from fuel.
So for the decent trim ultimate its 50 grand come on get real save yourselves 15 to 20 grand on a full hybrid five mins to fill up 500 miles stop falling for this electric con oh and don't forget once you've spent your 50 grand still got to buy a home charger thats a grand even more if your house electrics can't take one
