This was a fantastic bicycle adventure, we rode from our homes nr Swindon to the highest place in Wiltshire, our destination was Tan hill, to get to Tan hill we actually cycled past Milk hill. A bit of research shows Milk hill as the actual highest point at just 26 cm higher than Tan hill!

right summer solstice summer solstice and my uh my friend Charles has had a plan that he wants to ride to the highest uh place in Wiltshire today which is tan Hill it’s about a 45 mile I think return Journey so uh I’m riding out to meet up with uh Rich Charles Dave is join is also joining us so uh they’re just uh meeting up at the whiteart pub right let’s get pedaling just want to have a warning if your uh screen suddenly goes very bright it’s not a problem with your screen it’s uh it’s my white legs they haven’t seen the sun all year and uh I was riding the bike the other day and I thought it’s just so flipping notot I don’t care what people think anymore I want to be comfortable so I wear shorts I’m wearing shorts at the moment so look out for the white legs they are bloody white as well I knew you’d say something about my legs i’ you got legs like yours mate bit like mine you keep them covered up they look better it’s better for the uh what it was Charles I was I was riding the bike at through Bishops and [ __ ] M and it was so hot I had the zip off the zip off long leg long trousers I thought s it I don’t I don’t care what people think anymore I just want to be a long time I just want to be comfortable there he is look so anyway this this road is your idea Charles it is mine yeah we’re add it some Solstice today I thought we would celebrate that by cycling to the highest point in Wich on tan Hill tan Hill and round round journey I about 45 M it probably a round trip yeah something like that maybe if if um we go the wrong way which is more than likely but the idea is to go out to malra grab a coffee oh that’ be nice and then wander on through the famous Westwoods and then on over to tanhill back by a be following you Charles what re to that then Dave sounds good to me S right let’s get on our bikes then [Music] [Music] just going through WRA and then at canis Hill the first uh big climb of the [Music] day oh yeah much that’s [Music] cheap we now on the truck [Music] [Music] cheers [Music] D so this is the CBS Offroad for this section apparently it can be steep in places [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah you’re pleased with that bike Dave aren’t you I am yeah yeah so we’re on the road section now s it’s a mule it’s a pack buy a lot of luggage as you know yeah it does this one this one as well so we’re just on the Road section now going past what used to be the shepherd’s rest and then uh I think we got some more Offroad to do when we get near lington castle that’s been up here climbing the last half a mile good work out for the old lungs uh doing a bit to the camera Charles yeah stopped there yeah doesn’t Dave Dave says about how the scenery changes you know every two weeks three weeks yeah you come up here and the uh all yellow yeah no the bar is ripening anyway uh just approaching lington Hill where there’s an iron AG for beautiful part of the world up here Livington Hill uh was also known as B Hill in the past I believe uh beloved of Alfred Williams and Richard Jeff God’s country look at that look this is the uh this is the nice thing up here we get these beach beach Woodlands like this uh nice yeah nice place to come and sit and admire the views which are like this look yeah yeah yeah is oh yeah all right oh yeah like bit tricky on the slippery stuff so we’re now cycling along the ancient Ridgeway and this is perhaps one of the oldest uh roads known well made by man really it goes back at least to 5,000 years maybe even more they’ve all gone racing on look and they missed the important thing you missed the important thing we saw this the other day yeah this is the memorial to a fallen soldier first world war soldier uh hang on let’s put the bike down so his name was Charles oh it’s faded now that there’s uh there’s a stone down there with with the the engraving CHS uh 95 1 N I can’t read the rest of it but it’s a memorial stone to this uh this uh Soldier Captain Charles Hamilton 1895 to the 13th of October 1915 he went he went to college in mbra m and he become a bit of a poet a bit like sea feed suon and what have and so if you write poetry which you do don’t you one or two yeah then then that that sort of like preserves your your your memory on this world a bit longer yeah yeah there you go you better start writing a poem Dave I just made it to MRA stopping for a cup of coffee and possibly a slice of cake Shadow with have I head [Music] yeah I’ve been a video done a video here before yes yeah that’s right with my S Tony yeah we’re back in the coffee shop again and Dave’s buying aren’t you Dave yeah yeah SK just watch me dribble my milk cheers David thank you that’s all right Cheers Cheers Sandy cheers viewers yeah very nice coffee thank you you can’t take me anywhere look at this [Music] look well we just uh cing past the entrance to Westwoods now that’s a lovely Woodland if you’re in the area check that one out but we’re going to go up to a byway and then that’ll take us along the southern edge of the wood and then out onto a road and then we’re not too far away from tan [Music] Hill bloody noisy smelly things oh yeah we’re we’re looking for the uh the long Barrow we’re on the byway now on the south side of Westwoods and we’re going to Charles wants to go and see the long Barrow so we’ll uh have a hunt for that it’s in the woods somewhere but it’s so well camouflaged at the moment you can’t quite see normally you can see the hump in the winter time but we can’t see it at the moment the hunt for the long Barrow this is it you can see the the ground is rising up around it and uh Charles has found it if you climb up it Charles you’ll see a depression in the middle of it and that’s where they dug it out they always dug down right and you can see it quite clearly where they robbed it out see it’s quite clear isn’t it yeah it’s quite quite a severe hole in there isn’t it yeah this it was a fairly good size Barrow as well they found go right yeah massive isn’t it massive wh yeah so that’s the uh that’s where they dug it out there yeah there’s also that stone over there trunic isn’t it oh yeah yeah people have left uh offerings over here as well there you go long long barrowing in Westwoods how much for it what’s that do I said I can’t blame you for this one Sandy oh dear look at [Music] it Stingers go the stingers [Music] here [Music] just stopped to admire the view look at that absolutely beautiful better than staying [Music] indoors this is the last slog at the hill before we uh reach the highest point point in Wilshire and Charles there he’ be 72 next week you doing well a I [Music] re wor it here we go near at the top well what we got here directly in front of us is the W’s dke or wen’s dke and it’s an earthwork which stretches for miles across the landscape um but in the distance The Horizon in the distance that is tan Hill which is where we’re heading Charles just taken a photograph for straa uh and this camera if it shows it directly in the middle in the middle of the frame is uh is silb Hill uh and then a is over there as well yeah amazing landscape ancient landscape I’m basically uh cycling on uh around the side of tan hill now and uh I can see the sky lcks taking off but I can’t hear them anymore my hearing is is going unfortunately can you hear the sky lcks Dave I can hear you chat in yeah I can actually I can’t hear the sky locks we deaf in one ear and we have we have my good ear is not so good anymore either oh dear anyway when you look from here You’ got a good view through your ears s yeah yeah you can see straight straight through yeah he’s so kind D he always got a nice word to say about me he’s my old mate I’ve known him for years he knows he can get away with it if I can’t say it nobody can that’s true enough and it works both ways it does yeah that’s true enough Dave yeah I’m just glad you’re very discreet with your editing sound oh yeah I’m very good with take most of my ranting and swearing out we’re looking for that highest point now looking for that highest point we’re almost there well on the map tan Hill is marked as 294 M and milk Hill right next door only separated by about 600 M I think is also marked as 294 M but in actual fact a bit of research and I found out that mil Hill is actually 26 CM taller than tanhill so we’ll have to go back next year and do mil kill instead well we’ve made it I’m stood upon the highest point in Wilshire on top of tan Hill and everywhere around is beneath me yeah highest point Dave what you got to say makeing it to the highest point in we though I’ve got me foot on it anything anything intelligent to say I don’t do intelligence I don’t do intelligence how about you Char you made it to the highest point then yes um that’s the weather today is much nicer than the last time I was up here about 2 years ago yeah during November time and it was completely fogged in you could see could see absolutely nothing after but yeah no today You Can See For Miles you can almost see the great country of Wales which is just over there oh um and you can see 360 for Miles all around yes yeah yeah it’s lovely isn’t it it’s lovely you put your drone up S from here I am and in fact I’m going to say Cheerio to the viewers thanks for watching but I’ll leave you with some drone clips of the highest point in welshire thanks for organizing this Charles it’s great no yeah sorry it was a bit muddy in patches but it was right I like to have a little moan as you know yeah let’s get that drone up thanks for watching Everybody I’ll catch you in the next one while camping next in the woods with my mate Shane is going to equip me a fantastic meal apparently are you going to give Shane you bringing the beers for Shane this I’ll bringing the beers cuz he I’ve seen seen your videos and Shane seems to be the one supplying the beers most of the time no no I I did do last time you back when he supplied it and you hit him in a tree I gather you went back and pinched him I did I did that don’t tell Shane that see you take care [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music]

    3. Thanks Sandy for a beautiful video. Made my day while I am in the finishing stages of 6 months of chemotherapy. You are a kind caring person and the world could do with more people like you. Long may you keep cycling and camping.

    4. I'm surprised you didn't take an electric bike, Sandy, as it was uphill both ways.
I look forward to your attempt at the actual highest point in Wiltshire. 😃

    5. At 13:15 to 13:20 marks a voice seems to say “I’m here” possibly an EVP picked up by your camera mic sandy
Edit. On second thoughts it could be a sheep, but a talking sheep at that ! 😂

    6. Hi Sandy, I am enjoying your Solstice. Here in NZ I live in Timaru, we did have a sunny day with a temperature of about, felt like 5. I always admire how you make your countryside look so empty of people, You know our country is near enough to the same size as yours with a population of about 5 million, 70% of them in the North Island. Your London has nearly double our whole country's population. Enjoy your summer, I'm going to enjoy mine in a few months. Andrew.

    7. Another great video Sandy , i did a solstice ride aswell so we were out at the same time close by in the lovely weather ! I did the ridgeway barbury castle to Avebury section & back on my hardtail mtb . Last couple times i done on my gravel bike which wasnt really suitable considering the deeply rutted bits , concentration required on the ruts though . I didnt and took a tumble , only low speed and nothing more than a sore wrist ! Thanks for the great bike videos 👍🚴

    8. Don't get views that good here Sandy…and have to go out a fair way without a car to reach any great sights. You were blessed with the weather this one…the video looked glorious and I know the camera didn't do it justice. What drone did you use for this one mate?
