On a recent visit to Heidelberg, I hooked up with Jay (@JayRidesTrails ) who showed me around some of the great riding on the Königstuhl.

[Music] hello everybody Welcome to Trail tracker and welcome back to Germany today we’re in the beautiful city of hleb just like last time we’ve got Jay with me who’s kindly agreed to show me some of the best Trails on the hill above hi highle the turn store if you can find the way if you can find the way anyway I’m going to spare you ride up catch you when we get to the top right one very sweaty climb later and we’re about to drop in on our first Trail which J reliably informs me is called Rock and roller so Jay tells me he’s only rid this Trail a couple of times himself hopefully I’ll have some sort of an idea of where we’re going pretty wet wow good job you told me about those Rock rolls oops not sure I would have ridden them otherwise they look quite intimidating when you come up against them w W yeah it’s been peeing it down for the last couple of days here which is bit of a shame hope nothing’s got on the camera lens but we’ll stop in a sec just give you a wipe down okay I thought I missed it sorry all good wow that Jay you’re not inspiring confidence your rear wheels going left right left right let me just check it out so then you come down here go it’s quite intimidating yes it is um I’ve been down I’ve checked and I’m pretty happy with myself that the rocks have plenty of grip it’s not as slippery as I thought it was but um we’re going to get Jay to come down now and uh that way I can see how he does it and hopefully uh emulate his success afterwards J’s rear break heavy technique is uh not filling me with confidence I wish I felt a bit more confident let’s just give it a go oh all take two the roll was easier than I was expecting I just anchored up a little bit too much lost the front wheel before we got to next section so back on the horse give it another go and then and oh we’re getting there we’re getting a little bit closer each time I just need to roll off that okay third times a jum that was such a shocking line how did I survive I just got to that point and I was committed and I came down here yeah instead of there that was a B I think that is what we call a baptism of fire oh this is uh different okay good sketchy Dr oh this is uh I’m not sure apparently Trail’s not on trail Forks but I think we’re going to say it’s a double black something the way we rode it anyway you ready yeah let’s go lovely little roll we like that woo there you go it’s a city down there and here we are at the top of the kic SCH so what’s this one called again I think we on FAL oh falay almost certainly named after the falcony center right next to the trail entrance oh it’s pretty muddy still and quite greasy it’s a bit of a heart and mouth moment when you go off a jump and you have no idea what’s the other side bit chunky flow would have probably been a better Trail to warm up on than the one we actually use apparently the loop we want to do only works this way around the camera went off right at the start basically oh no so two sections of this Trail down now for the third section oh that’s good it’s pretty rough but and a burm and another one oh that’s a really good one this is some very unexpected flow on what has up until now been a proper Tech Fest oh that’s fun chunky flow right here we go this is our last trail coming up now it’s called corena and the reason why I’m not going to put a commute link to this ride in is because of this Trail apparently it’s a little bit contentious not everybody’s so happy about it being ridden so we’re just going to enjoy it take it on for the ride a while okay here we go coren katza apparently fairly flowy in the top section seriously technical in the bottom section dropped a flat on again back on the slippery stuff quite dark in here I don’t know how much you can see I didn’t quite fancy that root roll okay so apparently this isn’t the super technical section yet it’s definitely starting to ramp up in terms of uh difficulty just trying to keep an eye on where Jay is cuz he does say there’s a couple of doubles coming up looks like we’ve got one coming up just here nice they got some flow yeah okay sorry didn’t know whether you did them or no it was great they’ve got some great Rhythm and Flow just lost a bit of momentum oh here we go just starting to get into the lower part of CA apparently it’s not going to be super Ticky yet but difficulty does start to ramp up from here according to J Wow right apparently this is where the really janky bit starts well thankfully there’s quite a bit of grip on the Rocks who are you all right Jay all good Jay’s okay just going to see if we can get started this particularly nasty spot oh now I have no idea where he went but kind of guessing it was there seemed to work yeah it’s one of these Trails I think it’s no good trying to follow other people you’ve just got to ride the line as you see it nice it’s pretty good it’s pretty tasty yeah it’s definitely not an easy Trail especially in The Damp like this oh I’ve just gone completely the wrong way into that corner and navigate through the tree oh man I squared off that right hand corner really badly wow who would have thought there would be this sort of quality Tech Trail so close to the city oh I’m sure it would have been easier in the dry okay I was no way I was making that corner like that just wasn’t feeling confident about trying to go across those rocks diagonally with all this uh murdering my tires wow there you go another amazing day out with Jay on the bike thank you very much this man um wow hidle definitely worth putting on your mountain biking map come and check it out for sure and it’s probably worth bearing in mind according to Jay those aren’t even the hardest Trails on the hill road today anyway as always thanks for coming along stay safe see you next time [Music]

    1. That steep rock section at 3:45 was wild! great line choice the order of the day, some great riding skills there greasy mudnot easy to ride in. Made me think about my recent trip to Dunkeld, thanks for sharing Darren! 😁🤙

    2. Wow. You made a GREAT video out of that ride, man! I could tell you loved it on the day, and I can tell you did form this video… 🤩 would have been MUCH better in the dry, also there are so many more trails around there – which both means you will have to come back… soon…
btw loved the bit where you fought the tree at that corner, and also the zoom in on my slipperoo 😁👍

    3. That was a tough one Darren, getting into those trails was a tough test, but as expected you summoned all your courage and destroyed those gnarly stone fields. It was fun to watch and you and Jay had a great time. Thanks for sharing these great trails. Ride on and see you soon🤙

    4. Nice riding guys. I love where is got extra tough, no more talking, just heavy breathing and concentration! The bolder field was an unusual feature. BTW my Sedona videos are up now :).

    5. Nice work getting that line at the 3rd time 👌 ….. It is so different than here with the canopy so high allowing a lot of visibility.

    6. Good sesh that Darren… Pity I missed it… Although JD did really start you out with a BANG on Rock 'n Roller… Some excellent chunk on that trail!
