[Music] well Chris is feeling rather summery today she’s got her summer hat on looks like the coffee boat is doing a roaring trade this [Music] morning certainly know how to park them in sale that’s for sure [Music] in last week’s episode we left limb and carried on down the Bridgewater Canal stopping overnight just outside Dunham town before traveling through altringham and sail we then left you just as we were about to cross the Barton aqueduct in this episode we cross the aqueduct and then carry on to Lee having stopped off in Worley and we’re just about to go onto the Barton Aqueduct it crosses the Manchester ship canal just over there is the Barton Road swing Bridge and uh beyond that in the distance is the thirwell aqueduct a Viaduct sorry not Aqueduct I’m one an aqueduct but the cars there that’s the third world Viaduct the m6 I think it is the original Stone Aqueduct was about 200 yard long by 12 yard wide and it had three arches the center one having a span of 60 3 ft it carried The Canal at the height of 39 ft above the river irwell it was a major Wonder in its day and some said it was impossible to construct the decision to build the Manchester ship canal was taken in the 1880s and it was decided to use the course of the river irwell at Barton as part of the navigation Channel this meant that Brinley Stone Aqueduct had to be demolished although it remained open until the replacement swing Aqueduct was complete Manchester ship canal opened for trade on the 1st of January 1894 and was formerly opened by Queen Victoria on the 21st of May that year sir Edward leader Williams designed the swing Aqueduct and it holds 800 tons of water and has a gross weight of 1,450 tons it swung full of water to allow passage of boats along the Manchester ship canal because it’s swung full of water it it’s sealed at both ends with hydraulically operated Gates and the ends of the Bridgewater Canal are seal sealed in a similar manner the aqueduct the first and only swing aqueduct in the world is a grade 2 listed building and considered a major feat of Victorian civil engineering the scale you can see the gentleman sat down there give you an idea of the sheer scale of this uh Bridge [Music] [Music] [Music] it may be 30 mi from the coast but it’s been Phil Austin’s labor of love his own lighthouse on the banks of the Bridgewater canal in Salford he spent three and 1/2 years working on this Lighthouse and it has so far cost him €20,000 but his 36t tall weekend retreat overlooking the Morin at monton has been worth it Phil now 64 sold his Canal bars to pay for his folly which will soon be fitted out with a light to cast a beam on Norton green green the lighthouse has three floors the top of which is a 360° view it also has a small office which Phil of halfedge Lane echles plans to use as a refuge from the bustle of everyday life although not yet completed the peaceful setting is well on its way with a small Walled Garden potted plants and a wooden bench in the ground coming into the outskirts of Worley now with all the new builds here hoping that we can find a more in um Mery is a very popular stopping place for voters and being the weekend as well there is a marina just up the canal bridgew Marina and I’m sure a lot of the boter out there will probably be in Worley we will see I’m always the doubter when it comes to moing up but I’m sure we’ll find somebody see another phenomena on the canal now at the water he slowly turn turning orange very similar to that of the canal on the Trenton Mery by hair Castle tunnel and that’s because of the iron or that’s leaching out of the coal mines at Worley very similar to uh the iron or that’s leeching out in the tunnel at hair Castle a lovely bright orange color [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] go [Music] [Music] oh there only that where that inflatable dingy is at the moment I think maybe make it the mo [Music] [Music] now get stra with this yeah thanks [Music] hello how might do the garden where we were before yeah [Music] perfect I believe that [Music] I think the boat in front was hoping to D that spot [Music] that’s our moing here in Worley and the view that we have of this lovely Packet House right in front of us but I’ve not been vlogging around here because if you go back to our Vlog number 20 I did a full Vlog on the history of Worley and its uh important role in the start of the canal I it’s worth a look well good morning everybody it’s time for us to move and we’re going to leave Worley this morning despite the weather being a little bit damp and drizzly um but our 7 days now on the Bridgewater is up H so we need to move on to Lee which is where the Bridgewater ends and the um leads and liver po Canal starts so uh do join us I don’t know how much filming I’m going to get cuz of the rain but to hope you enjoy the cruise today so our final trip on the Bridgewater Canal sees us leaving Worley making an immediate turn left and then carrying on down the Bridgewater Canal until we reach Lee where we pass under the bridge onto the lead’s Liverpool canal [Music] as you can see not a particularly good day today it’s it’s a bit of a rain and drizzly but uh not too bad it’s only light rain bless blesser Chris is looking after me look bought a radio up keep me company and she’s bought me a mugg and tea it’s not too cold it’s okay and I’ve got the cover up I hate cruising with the cover up but at least it’s keeping everything dry and as you can see one of the drawbacks have having a wide hatch they’re the Electric’s cupboards so they are wide open to the uh outside world so another reason why I like to keep it covers up and the hatch slid back while it’s raining but there you go so we’re now on the stretch just around the corner and up ahead is Bridge Water Marina where we’re going to stop for some diesel hopefully water and hopefully get rid of our rubbish if they’ll let us um and then we will carry on and the destination today is Le [Music] just had a quick pit stop behind us at uh Bridge Marina here for diesel very uh good service from the chat there they’ve even let us empty our rubbish bins which is really good uh so now we’re heading off and uh continuing our trip and of course the rain is still in so uh we’re still under cover to leave me more woman home we that was interesting that was the one beam that pulled out in front of us without looking at the marina now according to Art monkey on our live Fe he did sound a horn but as art monkey put it he’s heard louder horns on a bicycle and uh when I sounded Mine by Christ the boat put the brakes on but he seemed to want all the canal and wanted me out the way and as you could see I had nowhere to go but he ho we got past him no damage done and uh although I did have to drop this uh pram Hood very suddenly to avoid a tree branch but we got through it UNSC no tears no rips he got through and he’s on his way we’ve got through and we’re on our way so no harm done unfortunately it is still raining although it’s a light drizzle now so hopefully it will stop eventually but uh sorry that there’s not much footage of this stretch but um not all I can do doing the rain but let’s hope we got some good footage on the GoPro [Music] I get the impression that maybe this Mill hasn’t been used for a while it’s got a tree growing out the top of the chimley I’m talking of said Mill there you go lots of mills in these here parts that’ll be what’s left of the Old Furnish room well that’s good the rain has finally stopped and I’ve been able to get the cover down and it’s turned a little bit more cool than it has been the last few days but uh it’s nice now the rain has stopped and we are now moving into Bedford uh which is on the outskirts of Lee and there are numerous Mills and uh that have been converted into apartments in this area I’ll show you some when we get to them there are some pretty impressive Mill buildings hidden away Behind These trees this one in particular looks quite all night although I can’t see it that well because of the trees but just look at that Tower gorgeous isn’t it still being used I think as industrial units and a refrigeration company have got uh useless then Mills like this one have now been converted into a nice apartments with Quite A View From The Top floors I should imagine it’s nice to see the old buildings put to uh new use rather than just left to decay [Music] lovely little Basin here this is Bedford Basin it’s bigger than it looks you’ve got this little wolf area here it’s quite a Big W [Applause] [Music] actually so we’re now entering Lee which which marks the end of the Bridgewater canal and the start of Le’s Liverpool Canal Lee Branch cuz there are more than one branches on the Le Liverpool canal and the bridge up ahead with the white black and white sign is the demarcation point between the Bridgewater canal and the Le’s Liverpool canal and if we can get a moing we’ll be stopping just after that bridge remains of a uh loading Warf here I think that’s a new modern apartment block that’s been built on the site of the old wolf there is still evidence of the crane here um but the wolf workings are long gone my mistake it’s actually a stock plank crane so that big stock plank will be put into that slot to Dam up the canal in case of a bridge taking it nice and slow because this is a bit of a low bridge here it’s high enough for us to get through obviously but it is low and there we are one half of Amy Joe is on the Bridgewater the other half on the leads of Liverpool through this bridge and in our 7-Day period he’s finished we’ve had a slight change of plan when we came through the bridge there was a boat M up on here um but as we were moing up on the other side they left so we’ve now moved across onto this moing which is better um only because we’re on rings here whereas over there we would have been on pins so it’s a 48h hour moring so we can stop here for a couple of days which we will do and then we will continue on so that’s us for today not bad B Road over the corner there but what is really handy just behind the wall here and through that bush is an AI Supermarket I’m well to find that well that’s it for this one I do hope you enjoyed our adventures along the Bridgewater canal and now we start our new adventures on the Leeds Liverpool Canal but for now thanks for watching stay safe look after yourselves and we’ll see you next time on life on board only J bye [Music]

    1. Yet again, another fantastic video. I found this one (including the music) so calming and relaxing after a very chaotic day. Thank you.

      Safe travels and take care

    2. I was going to remotely activate your aft torpedo's on that wide beam to teach him a lesson, but decided not to. It may block the canal for a few days. A swinging bridge, ok I get that. A swinging canal bridge, filled with water, impressive!
