When an immense climb met a formidable competitor. Stage 12 of the 2022 Tour de France did just that, as INEOS Grenadiers’ Tom Pidcock put on a masterful display of pure grit to claim the stage victory up the famous 21-turn climb.
Tom pitock takes the goal pitock a ride of pure [Applause] Brilliance what have you got for [Music] me to France video is what I’m watching the alz getting a breakaway in the in The Grand Tour is super super difficult you almost have to like make race winning effort to get in in a break and and originally I I missed it it was a headwind I thought over the top I would see if they would respond if I attacked I attacked and um yeah descenders fast but calculated I I know my own abilities yeah got to the break and then it was all about you know thinking about how to win pretty uh spectacular you’re going up there first first guy to pass through all them crowds he’ve been waiting all day obviously the fastest guy about thez was going to win luckily that was me yeah our biggest feeling was relief you never know you’re going to get caught or not you going to hold off and win so you know you finally get there and and and you know everything you just kind of relax and shut that fueling you know when you when you’re going up these climbs and you’re you’re riding the zone three threshold it it it really Burns through carbs eating every 20 minutes drinking uh hydro and and uh 40s having the car behind do helps you know all the better fuel range you know means you you can you can get a lot more lot more in and I think 136 G an hour I have wish that day you know I like new challenges and and and having all this different different disciplines keeps me yeah excited and motivated the Olympics transcend cycling was shown to me kind of when I won in Tokyo you know I always wanted to win the world so that was my biggest thing and I thought I always said I’d rather win that the Olympics but now I you know it’s the Olympics is much bigger if you win a gold medal it’s a gold medal and um you feel the your your country behind you when when that happens
