Under $500 dollors is tough, but you can get a decent starter bike for $500. check the local bike store for used bikes or specials, right after xmass may be a good time. Diamond back has had multiple review for best under $1000 and I got a 29er hardtail for $550, but then you have to get it fitted at a bike store or by a friend. Check bike stores first, good ones will help you out.

In fact the downhill trail is quite challenging with an average decline of 23%. None of these parts appear in the Video so it looks quite easy.
