Great race for Yates. He lost the battle (by a tiny margin for what was expected) but won the war. Really happy for him. 🎉

Yates is looking in extraordinary shape. Barely losing time to Almeida, is way over his normal performance. Can't give him any levee in the TdF.
The time trial does not deceive. It's loneliness in a team sport. It is the cyclist against the wind, without help of any kind. Just him and his bike. There is nowhere to hide. There is no equipment to hold on to. Not even the most cowardly of runners can avoid having to show their face that day. They are disappearing because it shows the true level of many cyclists.
Today was a time trial of 15.7 km that is not binding with the 59 km that will be in the two time trials of the Tour. 25 + 34. The first in Nuits-Saint-Georges>Gevrey-Chambertin. The second between Monaco > Nice. (The legendary Fignon-LeMond time trial in '89) I don't know why they change bikes if riders like Domoulin climbed Planches de Belle Filles with the same bike. The only rider who competed against the UAE, Skjelmose, will not even participate in the Gala round according to his schedule. There are no "aliens" modern cyclists are successful if they do well in the time trial and in the mountains, there are no secrets. Longer times are needed as there are many mountains and very little happens. Excellent young American Matthew Riccitello.
