I just ordered two Rapha jerseys, both Large. I’m 5’10”, 178lbs with a 42” chest and 32” waist ( or if you use a more logical system based on 10 instead of 12 it’s 177cm, 80kg, 107cm, 81cm).

After trying them on I think I need to go up to XL. While I can fit in them the seams and fabric are pulling around my shoulders and chest and they’re a slight bit too tight for comfort. Does anyone with a similar build have Raphas? If so what size worked for you or did you find another brand that fit better for more muscular builds?

If the fabric of a jersey is bunching, that generally means you need to size down, not up. A good race fit jersey fits you like a second skin. There’s always the comfort fit option if you’re uncomfortable with skin tight clothing, but I find I worry least about good race fit stuff.

Not sure if sizing down will fit your build. But if it’s not too small then size down. It may feel small standing but should fit perfectly in the cycling position on the bike

    3. That kit isn’t made for a jacked upper body lol. Typically cyclist, who would wear that kit, are rather thin, especially up stairs.

With that said, looks like it fits

HI. For what it’s worth, I’m 5′ 9″, 187(on a good day!), 44 chest, 35 waist. I wear a Rapha size large jersey. However, I suspect the fit/cut is different on the various Rapha jerseys. I wear the Pro Team Training Jerseys and a couple of the Core jerseys. I find the fit on the Pro Team Training jersey quite form fitting (aero) which I prefer, and the Core jerseys are bit looser, particularly the sleeves. Not sure if sizing corresponds between any of us and I as we all are uniquely proportioned. I’m somewhat fortunate as there is a Rapha Club House/Store near where I live and having the ability to try on different jerseys is very helpful.

PS ALWAYS buy Rapha items when they are on sale.

I’m 180cm, 90kg similar build in the upper body and large is fine. Don’t go XL otherwise it’s going to bunch up even more. The pro kits are meant to be like a second skin. It’s just difficult because we have muscle and your generic cyclist generally does not so it causes the upper portion to stretch while the torso is looser.

Since this is a “fashion” subreddit, I would recommend bib shorts over shorts so you don’t have a “belt” cutting into your abdomen.

Your pecs and upper body build is well defined and will make it challenging to find a good cycling kit fitment. I think you are good with that large size. Going XL will give you more chest room but likely bunch badly near the waist and sizes. The jersey will stretch a little as you wear it, which should help. If you haven’t tried on other sizes, certainly try an XL and check the difference.

    7. Question, are you not able to zip it all the way up to the neck? If not, I don’t think these actually fit and you need to experiment with a different cut or brand.
