Bob had a heart transplant, but it doesn’t stop him from being active. Cycling and regular movement keeps him on track.
We Are Undefeatable is a national campaign led by leading health and social care charities. They are working with Blackburn with Darwen Council to inspire and support people living with a long-term health condition to be more active.

my name is Bob my condition is long-term heart failure from which I’ve suffered for the past 23 years I needed surgical Intervention basically to save my life I was fitted with a heart pump a left ventricular assist device I had no strength no energy I can remember psychologically just thinking I’ll never be able to do anything worth doing ever [Music] again getting myself back to a state of reasonable physical fitness the starting point of it was very much cardiac physio that built up my basic body strengths I then got into cycling with a group of other patients cycling’s been a lifelong love of of mine and it was one of the great frustrations when I became very ill what I’ve been doing increasingly over the last few years is using my bike as an everyday vehicle given that my walking capacity is still limited I’ll do any Journey that’s down into town pick up some shopping or something go to the doctors that gives me that same sort of or similar sort of Buzz to what I get from long rides the cycling and the physio was I suppose the the starting platform for then being able to undertake everyday tasks I say my quality of life life is better now than it’s been at any time for the past 15 years [Music]
