“Send us a Hey Now!” (https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/1904290/open_sms)

Round 9 of the F1 2024 season and we head to Canada for one of our fav tracks in F1.

This could well be due to us being bias given we were there last year but we both really love this venue.

For the first time since Canada 23, we were back together face to face and had a great time at Brian’s local bar watching the race then recording the pod.

The running order of this episode is:

[Music] hey now welcome to the dirty side of the track America’s leading Formula 1 podcast I’m Brian that’s Rob we’re in my basement we just watched the Canadian Grand Prix how you doing Rob amazing it’s been a brilliant weekend uh such a perfect way to kind of celebrate the the anniversary of our Canadian trip um it was a bit weird wasn’t it sat there watching the race go in like now the knowledge that we were there last year we’re like looking at it and going oh we know that part of the track you know you like you said at the bar if you turn that corner you’ll be at the food trucks and yeah it was uh every time they showed any aerial shots or drone shots I would look at Rob I go you remember when we were walking around and if we made a right from that spot by the beach that’s where the food trucks were and yeah I wish we had been there but it was great being in person together watching it yeah it was it was a nice way to kind of celebrate the uh the Canadian weekend from last year but we’ll you know we’ll get there um we got some news and social to churn through you’ve been busy on your your Video Vault then we’ll pick the bones out of the race weekend and then we will give a little preview as to what’s coming next week which was pretty awesome so great guest great guest um so one other note uh because of the way we’re recording this there are no sound effects this week so I will do my best to keep it together uh and you all do the same at home but a lot of Silly Season news to start off our News segment rob you want to hit the first couple yeah I mean the first one too many people I think made too many conclusions to what happened in Monaco with the Alpine coming together but yeah the week kind of started out with the news that okon will be was it mutually parting ways I think to me they’ve just fired him but um sorry no they haven’t fired him they’ve not taken out the option of extending his contract right yeah we will not be the we will not have the pleasure of working with you again next year and that’s our decision and goodbye yeah yep and then your favorite oh my God come on you love this guy I do but it’s getting harder and harder to explain why so czecho gets a two-year agreement with Red Bull and we’d all heard about there being a one-year offer and he was pushing for a second year and it was like all right that you know that’d be good for him and then it came out it was a two-year deal although yesterday there was some news from Herer that maybe it’s a one in one but helmet says it’s a 2-year deal I don’t know and given his performance this weekend I still don’t understand it and he hasn’t been doing well and there was some debate on Twitter and Lizzy I agree with you I it’s almost like Herer one he wanted someone good but not good enough to challenge Max it felt like yeah it’s just it’s just an odd one and then just of all the weekends of all the weekends where you need to pull out a great performance to go see that’s why I got a two-year contract exact this this was not I’m going to be out qualified by Logan sergeant again again oh and then yesterday we also heard that Yuki will be staying another year at RB so 2025 is locked up it was announced just before quali on Saturday uh you know I think that’s great I actually think Yuki’s been doing really well and I know today at the end of the race he had a little snafu um we’ll talk about that but I I think you got to give Yuki a lot of credit for what he’s really turned into a solid season and and those of at the bar who follow F1 we’re talking a bit about how he’s kind of becoming I don’t say a favorite but someone we always cheer for we appreciate yeah and I don’t know if I saw that coming so no and I think you get the you get these kind of sliding door moments in uh well everyone’s careers but you know in formul one it’s true as well and that that rant uh when Yuki almost like swiped Danny out and everyone’s like oh immature silly little driver what’s he doing and obviously someone’s had a word in his ear and he’s listened and he’s doubled down and he’s been amazing since uh the aftermath of that now it could have gone the other way and he could have turned into a magnusen be sitting on 10 penalty points waiting for a vacation um interestingly the czecho thing back to that really fast I I didn’t really appreciate the fact that this will turn into a long-term partnership and that we rarely see such long-term Partnerships in F1 and so in terms of number of races together as a team in fourth place as of when this contract will end in fourth place will be uh with 99 races we’re staring at McLaren with mkah hackin and and David card 100 races Lewis and valter 104 Ferrari for schumi and Rubin and they will when this is done if all the races are run 138 races for Max and czecho they will surpass the 104 Ferrari next year at xanor in 25 at xanor that’s a lot of races together it is it is and and it and it really does again sorry to be brutal but it Begg us believe because what what has czecho done in the last and it’s not like the last handful of races it’s now going back to what has czecher really done last year well that was a win wasn’t it but even before that there wasn’t a lot like Max won the the constructors by himself last year he actually didn’t need right czecho at all and I don’t know what he’s done the final story I’m going to have to leave you because you’ve copied a Spanish story into our notes that I have no clue what it says well the it’s a good thing I’m so multilingual it’s amazing yeah yeah like Laura nine languages um so Carlos signs or as they call them in Canada SS um apparently will not be going to Mercedes and that was a rumor we’d heard last week that sounds to be true now however the two teams to be in the running seem to be Williams and saber SL AI whatever we want to call it um and that seems to be fairly confirmed like the other options have sort of dropped away and there were even stories that came out at one point that he’s already signed the agreement and we’ll hear about it before Barcelona yeah so I guess you know with James vows publicly out there saying please come to Williams either the deal is signed and James is playing funny or he’s going to Audi and James is trying to undo undo that but we’ll see soon I guess it’s it’s I was going to say it’s a silly silly season because when all this was unfolding there was a point when um the Lewis news broke so early and signs did so well and won that race at the beginning his stock couldn’t have been riding higher and you’re like well he’s going to get a drive in a top team wherever he wants yeah he’s just going to write his own contract and say sign me up and then as each announcement has gone by it’s just like he’s falling like there’s no outcome here where SS doesn’t get a drive next year right looking at like doors are closing you know yuk is reigning it literally isal chairs if you wait too long there won’t be a chair I know I know and I can’t think that SS can’t get a drive next year but now and I don’t mean there any disrespect between the two teams here but now it looks like SS has got to take a choice between Williams and saber to stay in F1 not where I thought he was going to end up dictating his own terms that either say Mercedes or Red Bull it’s crazy totally totally and this story is all yours cuz I know nothing of this one oh I can’t believe you not read about the new regulations Brian coming off the top rope a little bit Yeah so the new regs are out and then when I copied and pasted these in from uh I think it was the BBC Formula 1 channel they gave like a idiots guide for the new regs which is exactly what I need um but I need to put a caveat over the top of this before we go through it that apparently what’s happened is they’ve published these but without the agreement of the teams and they think they’ve done it to almost they know there’s going to be a string of negotiations to come next so there’s apparently two teams that have said that they will refuse to race under these regs we don’t know which two teams that is or that they are I need to get my plurals right um but regardless so you’ve got this set of RS which has almost been put out there on purpose by the sounds of things that by the FIA to drive a round of negotiations which some people say the teams are going to they’re over the toop pushing back on these so that they can get some Concord uh changes in and say what do you mean you want to surr under these RS no no not a chance unless unless you guarantee no more than 10 teams and the new or if you do allow a new team it goes up to a bazillion dollars to come so there’s a whole political thing to this going on so anyway here’s the new RS as we know them and that’s that little asterisk that is until all the teams have had a big fight about it um but essentially the the chassis rules are now kind of the the idiot notes are uh minimum weight reduced by 30 kg to 768 kg the width reduced by 10 whole CM I mean you’re not going to be able to see these cars on track they’re so small nice um front tires are narrower the rears are narrower but they’ve kept the 18in tires pelli really wanted to keep the 18in the active aerodynamics now and and this is kind of one of the bones of contention is you have this active Arrow where they can uh deploy it on the a bit like DRS but movable so that you can get maximum downforce on the corners to go fast around corners and then get rid of all of that and lose all your drag and go rocket ship down the straights uh it’s going to be front and back and it won’t be apparently driver controlled it’s going to be yeah set of one of the re one of the things the teams did not like exactly and they’re like well so this doesn’t become like some people are saying well this is basically push to pass from Indie so but hang on the driver can’t control it then how can it be they’re saying that the amount of front wings that get damaged in races like we saw today a couple of times what happens if the front Wing gets damaged and now but the rear wing is working they’ve already seen that on the simulators if the rear wing only is working the things are undrivable around corners so and then if you ding the front wing and you got to replace it all the time the cost of with active arrow on it the cost of a wing goes up exponentially in a cost cap era so it’s like yeah I can see why there’s a lot of um issues about that part and then because they’re going to say they’re going to have this active Arrow they’re now saying well now you can basically go back to an almost flat floor because ground effect won’t be needed which means you won’t need to run them super low people aren’t going to get bounc in and purposing and you’re going to go back to everything being aerodynamically influenced but yeah I don’t know I I got a funny feeling that there’s a lot of story left to unfold in these regs before they’re the actual signed off RS yeah agreed and a good person to follow on all this is Dr OBS uh guest of the show he’s had a lot of good insight into this and actually some of the early reports on some of the teams being frustrated so Dr OBS thank you uh I’ll keep watching there for more yeah I mean the one thing that I did like was although we laugh at like this centimeter difference when you saw the uh the rendering of the 2022 like show car from FIA against the 2026 one I mean it it actually does look noticeably smaller it does it does even though we’re talking of centimeters here it’s a move in the right direction if they keep going that way then as long as the spirit of making the car smaller sticks if all these other stuff about active Arrow whatever happens with that I think as long as the kind of the smaller lighter cars is the way forward then I think we’re in for uh better but pose this to you down the pub or down the bar whichever we want to say I’m going to call it Pub your it’s a place where you drink beers yeah many beers um Lando Norris mentioned yeah that he thinks we’re in for a problem once we get to 2026 because what always happens with new regs is some teams nail it some teams fail it and therefore the the field gets completely spread out again with some people dominating some people at the back that are never going to score a point ever because they they just built themselves a bucket of nails um and then what you do is over the next few years you recover that and you get to back where we are now back where we are now like we saw the race today we didn’t know Max was going to win until quite late in the race there was no 22nd right 2 second lead it was fun to watch it really was and that’s happened as these new regs have evolved and everyone’s played catchup and you get catchup catchup catchup catchup just like you did in 2011 when Lewis and Max are going head-to-head then new regs come in and boom someone Nails it and disappears into the distance and he kind of put out there is that the kind of sport F1 should be I was like H Brian do we discuss this in the in the in the break and kind of really break into this cuz that’s a deep question should F1 have these Cycles where you get such big reg changes that nukes the field wide open again I mean I think that’s a great thing to hold for summer for like a detail conversation I actually am I’ll take the optimistic side of this that the regs are good um in a cost cap era I think that as long as the the north star of the regulation is to make the cars continued safe continued safety but smaller and heading towards better racing on historical tracks and we’ll never get there on Monaco again but let’s say like IMA and some of the other tracks that are too narrow in certain parts where smaller cars can be more racy more uh more chances of overtaking if we can get back to some of those things if that’s always what they’re going for I have no problems with it but you’re right I think it’s probably a longer conversation yeah let’s put it that because I like do like the cost cap aspect of making this work um we’re far enough in now or I think 26 will be governed by the 26 RS and not the you know historical spending whereas in 22 we saw that coming from the past yeah agree agree um right which one of us is going to do the video volt sound effect I guess that’s you then the the door is open baby and here in Chicago you got to watch out for the cicos um like stop yeah just quick note on that now I’ve heard of the caders and I’ve and I’ve you know we we have enough of them in Connecticut that it makes a nice little buzz in the evening and you know if I go to sleep in the evening when my window’s open I got this background noise which is actually quite soothing it’s quite cool and I’d heard about these swarms of these cicadas that come out once every gazillion years or whatever it is and as I turned up to Brian’s today it it is absolutely ridiculously noticeable it’s like it’s it’s almost like being in uh being in Canada last year and hearing the cars for the first time like getting off the train and stepping out and going what the heck is that noise and then seeing them swarming around your backyard I’m like I’m glad I’m only here for a weekend it is I was going to make we were going to burgers in the backyard that is off because it’s currently uninhabitable outside um yes so the first video watch McLaren racing CEO Zack Brown get a Miami GP tattoo on the McLaren channel 3 minutes good but a dangerous precedent because McLaren is looking racy he’s already said that he won’t get a a tattoo every time or if if Oscar wins they said are you going to get an Oscar tattoo and he said um I actually ended up on his live Instagram feed um the other day I got like one of these random notifications you know Zack Brown wants you to join his Instagram feed I’m like oh I’ve got a personal invite to Zack BR you dial in dial in gez that makes me sound like the 1980s but you yeah you join it and then you realize there’s like a gazillion people there okay but anyway one of the questions that i’ come up through the questions are um are you going to get a tattoo every Victory now from your team and he said categorically no he said because this one hurts so much I’m going to find other ways to commemorate race victories all right well it was still fun watching we get the Miami tattoo um the next video F1 drivers vers soapbox car race on the Red Bull Channel 10 minutes it’s the RB team and the Red Bull team in Soapbox Derby cars going down the track and Yuki finished fourth I’m not going to give away any of the rest feel free to watch it Yuki finished fourth and I think he got done a little dirty they gave him the outside track it was longer I also think weight helped in this so like the lighter you are the slower you go yuk is not a big guy not at all and so he was way behind everybody and then they made him hand out the trophies and put the ribbon on their like he was the podium trophy presenter yeah anyway feel free to watch that one it was pretty good Lando Norris and Oscar pastry answer Formula 1 questions from Twitter tech support on the wired channel uh I love these things it’s nearly 11 minutes I saw this come across my feed on my basically my for YouTube page if you will and I’m like all right this will be great and it was wasn’t that great I don’t know they like they were just kind of checking the Box on doing the interview it didn’t feel like they were having a lot of fun the two of them um and I really do appreciate both and then the last couple here the Monaco Vlog cycling with Tad podar nailed it and Monty Carlo masters by Carlos signs on the on the Carlos signs channel it’s don’t blink episode 6 season 5 it’s 6 minutes long everyone knows who this racing guy is they said oh look who it is it’s time J pikar and I go huh and people are walking by he’s apparently a BigTime cyclist I apologize for everyone who’s into tour to France or any other cycling events who know this person and I sorry valter exactly oh wait hang on sound effect this is Val podcast and you’re listening to the dirty side of the track um and then the last one is a weekend I’ll remember forever Monaco 24 charl clir Channel nearly 12 minutes this is the one to watch of all of them it’s a behind the scenes look I love it when he’s getting his hair cut and his mom’s cutting his hair right before the weekend starts and he looks he goes say Mom the haircuts not straight and and then they’re talking in a language which I pray to God wasn’t French because I’ve been studying French for six months I didn’t understand a fraking word the whole time and if it was French I’m screwed when I end up in Monaco in France so I’m hoping there’s a separate language they were using that wasn’t French because then dual lingo did me did me dirty I hope there isn’t a behind the scenes of how he followed up his Monaco Victory with a uh fantastic weekend in Montreal oh my God yeah and then last and as we close the door Rob get ready with that sound effect there was a csquare challenge it just came out yesterday on quali day I have not had a chance to see it but it’s only 3 minutes and as I say I’m getting a little disappointed with Ferrari the videos aren’t as good as they used to be they’re short they’re quick they’re not as fun oh my God and that’ll take us to the race weekend to fp1 you always hit the practice for us Robert go for it well I mean there’s not going to be a lot here as there for fp1 and fp2 uh fp1 wet Jr weather’s bad that that that that’s fp1 I mean it brought back memories of last year Crossing that bridge in the monsoon and hoping we weren’t going to die yes except that we didn’t have hail no we didn’t actually we didn’t have hail I feel guil I feel bad that we missed out hail yeah uh fp2 was drying to wet and back sorry drying to dry and then back to wet again um we got like a little mini microcosm of about six laps where I think Fernando or somebody went fast and then all of a sudden everybody had to go slow again yep Max had a problem with his new ERS the energy recovery system they couldn’t touch the car and we were curious what that would end up meaning and then we saw fp3 uh Joe crashed again uh and I wrote a note here it said Joe Guan you crashed it again I don’t even know why you find that funny but glad you crashed it again I know don’t anyway jokes are definitely not funny when you have to explain I didn’t explain it I just said it slower uh anyway yeah so Mercedes looked good and that was really the for me the takeaway of practice was was the Mercedes Pace real in fp3 true true and and I did actually put a lot of stock in it and and put Lewis into my fantasy team and thank God and thank goodness I did because a lot of the rest of the team went South badly so we’ll get to that but then we had friend of the show ja V Earth hi this is Jack vov and you’re listening to the dirty side of the track well I didn’t think you had sound effects this week I know I know amaz he went all in on Danny Rick oh my God uh let’s read this quote out here we go why is he still in F1 you all talk about those first few those first two seasons but he was beating a vetal that was burnt out and trying to invent things he should stop inventing then he was beaten for half a he was beaten for half a season the 18-year-old Max and and then he stopped beating anybody anymore I think his image has kept him in F1 more than his actual results OU and and I say ouch me and you discuss this down the pub and there is an element of Truth running through all of this we both said Danny Rick definitely gets more grace to be able to stay in F1 because of the world’s biggest smile and he’s a great guy um because his results over recent years probably haven’t been any better than a lot of people who have been thrown look at Nick D or anyone else kind come on don’t tell don’t tell me it’s Nick def he won in Monza he did like and then never got anywhere near that again even a broken clock is right twice a day Brian it’s like but he doesn’t guarantee a race win he’s eight whatever seven or eight time race winner he he is but and that but that’s a long time in the past right other than that so I do think there’s an element of Truth around the he’s in there because of his image he’s definitely not in there because of his race results he’s you know really only beat Yuki today because of the uh you know Yuki had him all weekend until that kind of little little snafu at the end there but hats off to Danny Rick he got points which is great but this was supposed to be his audition for the Red Bull seat yeah and as we already announced in the news and social that’s that’s done it is done because what are they keeping him for at this point I mean he’s not going to be a world champion at this point no he’s not going to he’s not a young upand cominging driver who has unlimited potential or a high ceiling you kind of know what it is I actually think his time at Renault at the end with sirel aidable when as a team principal and the the relationship they built I actually think leaving that was really a mistake yeah I mean McLaren did not work for him he was a broken guy there like after a while it just took it took at all on him but but I obviously with all my years experience as a Formula 1 driver um there’s only so many times you can keep going to teams and saying the car doesn’t work for you right or the car you know it doesn’t play to my strengths well okay well list out what actually are your strengths because we don’t seem to have to find a car that plays to them now surely a good driver adapts to the car or gets the best out of a car and I think Danny Rick unfortunately sometimes unless if the car is absolutely suited to him he can bring home a result no problem the moment it’s not sort of goes on witness protection and we don’t see I honestly thought he could get the Red Bull seat because if you go down the Christian Horner route of he would be a good wingman that isn’t going to challenge Max I would I would actually see him as an upgrade to czecho I think he would have done better than czecho is doing at the moment in that seat but I I think czecho and Danny Rick have kind of the same I don’t want to say Elder Statesman but they’re a veteran who is Dependable to do what they’re going to do they’re not going to win races on their own they need something to happen for them to do it I would take check over Danny Rick but you so you think but they’re different it’s a different Camp it’s not it’s not the Liam law Lawson it’s not the Yuki Coda young guys who have higher ceilings and I think those are helmet Marco guys I think helmet would want someone pushing Max I think Herer wants to Bubble Wrap okay question for you as we lead into q1 you think that Danny Rick gets knocked out in q1 multiple times in a Red Bull wow cuz probably not just about to cover what Happ I don’t think you know what I don’t think so yeah so czecho does get knocked out I don’t know it’s a good question what do you think I I don’t think D either yeah I agree um so in q1 we lose uh both of the saers of valter and Joe we lose the Alpine of estabon okon we lost the hos booy of hulkenberg and czecho as as Rob says and I wrote in the notes Here czecho drops a dose and then in Q2 that’s so bad and then in Q2 we end up losing both Ferraris both I don’t don’t that has to be another story of the weekend what happened to Ferrari I don’t know I I don’t I I’ve got no words I have no words that’s it I mean I mean how do they go out and Q too I don’t know because the the race simulations that I put so much stock into and I made my predictions actually held good for Red Bull for McLaren and for Mercedes they that they didn’t have Mercedes that high but they had them up the upper end and challenging the one outlier that they had the fastest on Race Pace was Ferrari I mean how can they get their data so right something either must have happened to both cars that we’re not privy to but they couldn’t have been suffering from engine issues all weekend they didn’t look fast in a single session do do you remember in what was it 19 or 18 2018 2019 when Ferrari was great and then all of a sudden fell off a cliff and they had that fuel flow issue where they they had a they we didn’t hear about it till much later to explain it I wonder if they’ve been pumping the gas a little too fast in the Ferrari I mean they didn’t need to in Monaco because you can walk quicker than they were driving last week but um yeah I know I don’t know what happened it was it was a shocker that they both went out but so we lost both Ferraris we lost Logan we lost km mag and we lost the gas man so both alpines out both hos out um but interestingly in Q3 we had Alex albon and a Williams we had Yuki coda and Daniel Ricardo in the RBS we had Lance and Fernando in the Aston Martins and then we had Max the two Mercedes and the two McLarens and Max I thought he was going to get pole I did I really did as well and for the second time ever in the history of Formula 1 since we’ve gone to three-digit after the decimal point timing the pole has been tied and so the tie was George first at 112 flat and then Max for stappen came around later and did 112 flat and tied him but George did it first therefore he gets it I would just say this really fast um you know great for great for us to watch Q3 to have George Max Lando and Oscar um good for Danny Rick to maybe shut up Jack a little bit with his qualifying fif but the weather for me was another thing that was fascinating because in Q3 the track kept getting like it was wet and then it was not real wet and it was like spitting and then it was a 112 wasn’t the fastest time in quali no Lewis did faster in Q2 didn’t he right he did and so yes and so did George and so we saw people do faster times then it was just an interesting quality that kind of gave us between the quality of Mercedes the lack of Ferrari and some of the jumbled up RBS and some of the other people in there it made it a fascinating quality I really enjoyed it yeah I did as well and then with predictions for the rain coming in over the weekend you know we just knew we were going to get one of these classic Montreal weekends where uh you don’t you just don’t know what’s going to happen I mean there’s a say in in Connecticut you know New England weather if you don’t like it wait 5 minutes and it’ll change and and my that is Montreal as well uh so yeah we get to race day and race day for me was um I was really looking forward to it so uh Saturday uh where I live we had a block party and I maybe drank my own body weight in Modello which I other beers are available we’re not sponsored by medell but hey medell if you’d like to sponsor us we’re willing to sell our souls um that Rob will get a tattoo a [ __ ] St I got up at 3:30 a.m. then to get my flight to Chicago which I massively regreted the amount of medel that I drunk but then once I kind of arrived went to my hotel dropped the bag in and got on the train to head up to uh Brian it was kind of building I was like this is going to be a great day and it was great getting into North Brook and seeing Brian and uh hearing those ridiculous cadas but then going down in the bar getting the big screen turned on to F1 pre-race it was like like I say ear when we kicked this thing off it just best way to kind of second best way to be in Canada again was to watch Canada with you in the bar it was uh it a lot of fun lot of beers flowed and it was and it was good fun a couple friends came by we had a good time and so then we say the race starting now we did not have the sound on and I will say this for F1 uh normally when team radio plays you see the icon of whom you know the team it is and who which driver and then usually there’s a little box that opens underneath it that has the you know the readout of what was said they lacked a lot of those there were a lot of Team radios without the words on they were in the bar today weren’t they I mean they knew we couldn’t hear crap we we got a few of them we got a few of them come up where we saw the text come out but then most of the time they just they just checked out and they were like yeah no one needs to see this I just I maybe it was cuz the race was so good they were watching the race and they forgot to start typing I don’t know what it is well we got excited when the race started as we saw everybody on the ERS except for the hos Boys on full wets and we were looking at each other like this is either genius or disaster and nothing in between and it turned out to be genius at least I think I was going to say it didn’t really work in the long run yeah yeah I was going to say it was shortterm genius and short-term entertainment yes watching those two rocket ship their way around unbelievable up to about what lap eight I think we had eight laps of just watching the hes going are we in for a h one two here because this is insane mag passed 10 people in the first seven or six or seven laps Nico passed eight or nine people they were rocket ships km mag was up to what fourth or something like yeah Clos in and then we hit that point where both me and you went that dry line in the middle now is is pretty noticeable and as soon as you could kind of see those two sets of tire tracks that were dry everything started going south for the house boys it kind of and then they went when it really went South km mag comes into pit early at the right time he’d gone up to Fourth Now’s the Time to get off the wets move to something else move to the ENT and he pits and they have an 8.6 second stop like they didn’t know he was coming in they didn’t I mean unless Bo box but don’t tell the team unless he sprung it on them I mean if they’ all been sat around with their feet up drinking coffee or whatever and all of a sudden somebody goes uh I think that’s one of our cars coming down the pit Lane what was it Murray Walker was it the Murray Walker era I don’t know if it was him or his color man just slap some tires on the car and get it out of here um yeah so you know it was fascinating to see that but then they started rolling back and as Rob said the next kind of little bit of the race the next handful as it started drying the McLarens turned into absolute papaya rocket ships they did because we had was as I’d written here right after the km mag disaster I wrote it because Norris was 9 seconds back from Max and falling away and and Max is just behind George yeah and then we went into this kind of inter probably aren’t the right tire but rain is on the way and maybe the inter are getting overheated everyone was driving offline to go and find water it was insane to watch and we had George and Max dueling it out at the front and all of a sudden Lando was like I think I’m going to join this party and he just rocket it up to them it was uh it was fantastic and then Max made a bit of a mistake and then up up on the screen was DRS enabled which actually came up after it must have already been enabled because I was just about to nudge Brian and go how the hell is Lando’s real Wing open because I didn’t think you could in the wet now somebody please tweet us or let us know we don’t know what we thought wet Tire running meant you couldn’t have DRS right it’s obviously the track condition yeah but it can’t be track condition as in someone just looks at the track and goes yeah yeah let’s do it let’s go is it I I think it must be lap time based they must have a once the lap time clocks below a certain threshold they go well if the cars going around this quickly we can now do DRS but I’m guessing you remember in practice when Charles was on inter and it wasn’t declared a wet track and he had to go see the stewards and pay a $100 100 pound fine or whatever I feel like I feel like it is I feel like the stewards just look at it and basically take their thumbs take it out the box window that they’re in like it’s a dry track now got enable DRS no they got a DRS coin and we’re flipping it now and DRS is oh on I mean it’s fascinating as long as we’ve watched F1 we never figured out the minutia of how they determine when it comes on and off but anyway at this point to Rob’s Point um it was fascinating DRS is on Lando just makes a huge charge you were right George and Max would come down the straight the back straight both halves of it and basically go offline in opposite directions to cool their tires most ridiculous it’s the most like you watch most of the time you watch F1 drivers being almost scientific in their racing line approach and to watch them be the opposite of that is is in a way it’s like really weird as you’re watching it’s like where are they going yeah yeah exactly and so then at this point Lando continues his charge Max makes a little mistake he’s kind of wobbly a little bit takes a little time on lap 20 Lando gets Max gets on to George quickly lap 21 George makes a little mistake as well which we’ll talk about that in a second and then Lando’s into the lead and at this point I am really excited I’m I’m enjoying watching this race I like the the speed of the McLarens I like the competition at the front and then Logan Sergeant pulls a Logan sergeant and bins it for the second time in the race the second time he was in the barrier and worse like Lando had pulled out a 10 second 10 second Gap overx in first place 10c lead and then Logan goes and does that and we weren’t even at half Race distance so we don’t know what might have happened and were we in like a perfect storm window where the inter worn out inters on a kind of dry track really meant the McLaren was a rocket ship and the Red Bull couldn’t counter the track was going to evolve a hundred times after that so you know it might not have been it but Lando’s got to look back at that moment of like damn you Logan I was 10 seconds out on Max I’m I’m on my way to If that had carried on like that I’m on my way to building a pit stop Lewis was 8 seconds ahead of Max in Abu Dhabi 21 when goate tii did his little deal The Last Hand Full laps same kind of deal and so it was hard to tell just being totally honest being in the bar if Lando had passed the start fin sorry the pit entry um can you get me another beer as well thank you I’ll you the be from the yeah I’ll I’ll I’ll Vamp for a minute here and so as we were sitting there yeah the right side of it there you going to have to open a container sorry for this and so anyway so we watched this happen and and Lando is by the pits and then everyone behind him second third and fourth so Max George Oscar all pit they all go into pit they get fresh enters this risk of rain there it is the risk of rain is still real they get fresh enters they come out and Lando now has to put in a fast lap and you see him do it you can actually we’re both sitting there he needs an amazing couple laps here to not get undercut and can he make the overcut work or at least hold on to First really is what we was trying to do he comes in the next lap around in the safety car under Logan safety car and he comes out after Max and I was oh just heartbroken not only after Max he L like well that was at that was the Slicks this after this he came out third oh sorry I wrong one I’ve jumped ahead yeah he was behind George so I’m like Not only was he behind Max he’s behind George as well he went from first to Third and I just I couldn’t catch it if he hadn’t had a chance to pit right away and missed it or if he like was by the entry I I think he must have been I think it was just poor timing when they and I’m totally guessing because we didn’t really see a replay of it when they cut to that chain of cars coming into the pit Lane it looked like they just made the call and with Lando being so far up the track I’m guessing he missed the window and just did just did one around but um couple of things we then had um um Charles engine Charles I mean it had been going on for ages it was like the first set of radio messages which they did type out and we did see how how how slower am I on the Straits and they went yes we know we have an issue we are checking and he came back and said that’s not what I asked how slower am I on the Straits and they went half a second and he’s like what what am I supposed to do in this I can’t do and they were obviously fighting Gremlins all day but the bizarre thing was L Clair is constantly on the radio obviously got problems can’t he just can’t make make up the ground on the straights and he’s fighting people off on the straights science didn’t come on the radio once to complain about engine issues but he’s behind L clar for the entire race so I’m sorry but as much as it hurts me to say this as a Ferrari fan Ferrari just got everything wrong this weekend like everything like we were joking like so when Charles comes in with his issues and and and like you were like joking before they came in what they going to do put him on hards or put him on softs you whatever it was like obvious not inters and they came in and then he seemed to be Stood Still and we don’t know what was happening because we couldn’t hear the volume but he like he was rebooting the car like restarting the car something yeah maybe it was turn it off and turn it on again um and then he came out on hards oh my God we were like what are those white striped tires and yes we understand the amount of time left in the race I understand you’d want to get to the end I understand the whole argument about tire deeg but no one has ever G onto a wet track whether the FIA wants to call it a wet track or not no one’s ever gone out out there on Hearts the hardest compound of Tire the like rocks and turned them on and found any grip ever so like yes softs would have been the best but they’re going to burn out too fast so I was sitting there yelling in my best Bernie Collins put him on the mediums put him on the mediums and of course Ferrari’s like hards it will be we are checking and like it was it was done and then he had to come back in and get intermediates yeah I mean all I could all I could go for in my eternal Ferrari optimism was if if the weather forecast which is always a little bit ropey in Canada that rain didn’t hit the track and it continued to dry then hards was a was a great call but because I think theyd had all those engine issues and they were fallen so far behind I think they decided if we put him on inters and send him back out he’s poing around in 18th 19th and that’s all we’re going to get out of him if we throw him on hards and the rain doesn’t come then we’ll be Geniuses because everyone’s going to pit and we’re going to be ahead that’s all I when you’re that far back you youan why not big will go home at that point I think well they went home they did and thanks so then we see Lewis pit and we start to see some cars in the in the 40s um come back in and out Lando this is the one you’re talking about that’s right yeah um and so sorry I got confused there we did see George get Lando Max we had Max George Lando Oscar uh at this point and so then we start talking more about people kind of making mistakes George makes a big mistake lap 51 on turn nine Lando takes second place off of him czecho I don’t he got a little bit onto the inner part of the chicane there uh or the Curbing and it was all wet and he goes flying around and and has to retire his car a bad weekend for czecho for sure and then we see and again we saw just the aftermath we saw his wing hanging down and he’s slowly getting back to the pits and then we see the same thing we see a spinning signs and then you look carefully and there’s a Williams in the wall and it’s albon and I’m like oh what happened and then we finally see the replays of all these czecho and Carlos basically did the same thing they got a little too close on the inside of one of the corners the curbing was wet and painted and they lost traction spun around czecho took himself out and unfortunately Carlos took out Alex a it was so do you know what we got two moments cuz we’re going to talk about another one later which was insane we had two moments where a spinning car in the science example took an unlucky albon out right we had a spinning ukul lator which almost was that Nico who went right in front of him it was a it one of the hes I still don’t know how there wasn’t a crash I don’t either I still we’ll get to that but yeah so then like science then uh tries to the funniest thing was science trying to correct the spin on the on the wet grass and ended up doing like a 18 180 the other direction it’s like it must be so hard in a car with that much horsepower when the when the grass is so wet like he’s just trying to like eek his way back onto the track but um and you you put a note in here do you know we we like to use the phrase witness protection of cars that we just don’t see yes right you wrote here astons are in sixth and seventh never saw them never saw them and after how bad they’ve been they’ve been terrible the last few races six and seven is a great job by as it really is and the alpines were at this point of the race 9th and 11th that’s fantastic for them and we saw so many teams bunched so closely together we were joking with um Adam or Steve or Lenny that it was basically like uh Noah’s Arc we saw people two two by twos with the exception of Max alone yeah and then you had a couple McLarens most of the time a couple Mercedes most of the time you saw you know the Aston Martins were close we saw the RBS and the alpines were kind of back and forth to each other the Williams were out and then by the end um we were had one Ferrari wherever Carlos was I don’t even remember no Carlos he didn’t even Tire I can’t even yeah he did cuz I it was an awful weekend for my D dou dnf yeah yeah that’s double that’s that’s my move that’s you stole my move huh stop short uh they stopped real short slow button on and then um what but what I enjoyed was what happened to H like I didn’t expect them to win the race but I I kind of expected they’d be fighting for points and they were down with saber at the very bottom the exception being Joe who we also never saw who who was consistently one laap down I don’t know what happened to Joe I don’t know if he had three wheels on and he was using his feet as a fourth I mean Joe I hate to say this but it’s not that often that you see somebody so far behind and so slow that they can’t even catch the back of the safety car train and CLA was pitting like every other lap so when when the safety car was out and and sorry when the safety car was coming to an end for that last uh run and we kind of had Max getting ready and Lando got ready there was a shot from the uh hairpin but my land is going around The Hairpin and you could see up ahead of him on the on the straight was Joo well the the safety car had been out for a couple of laps and Joe was only just ahead of the safety Bert Mander was catching Joe that’s that’s how bad a weekend Joe was having um definitely want to forget for him I think H look if if the Ferrari engines didn’t work here for some reason then maybe we got massive disparity in their lap time at the beginning while they’re on wets and just like Road Runing their way through the field and then as soon as they were on the same TI as everybody else we got to see True Performance and they fell back maybe it was that I don’t know and we kind of missed it but people did go to slicks to Rob’s Point um we’ll talk about one last incident or two last incidents but um it was fascinating Lando pitted came out and almost had Max almost had him um although I guess in Fast and the Furious you go almost had me you never you never had me you never had your car but Lando almost had him he came out of the safety uh the pit lane exit and the whole bar watching the race all four of us um were like oh my God he’s GNA get him and then they came out at the same time at Lando was sideways the entire way I think the problem was again leaning into all my years driving an F1 car I think as Lando comes out of the pit Lane and obviously all he has to do is move his head to the right and you can see Max coming around right there I think he flaws it a little bit too soon to try and get ahead of him and the whole car just fishtails and he’s just desperately trying to get across to like you can see the dry line in the middle he’s like H get across there and then he got across there but the tires are still so wet at this point that he lost it and and this is the only this is the only tinge of disappointment on the entire race for me is that the McLaren had looked so fast so good when the track was drying early yeah when it was drying or even when it was full wet they were kind of making moves up the field when it was drying they were making moves Max is uh moaning about his suspension and he can’t go over the curbs because it feels like it’s knocking him out each time so he’s obviously trying to R Drive within his limits and in that last 10 laps Lando never really made a den and in fact we even got team radio to Oscar saying do you think you could challenge Max which I’m just taking as cuz if you say yes we’re going to swap you right and he’s like hey I’m fighting off George here George by the way we we all made predictions on this and the when he was fourth we said he is going to do something that won’t work and so and he did George Russell is the Mr [ __ ] Award winner which does not exist but you knew he was going to do something and the words I was using I can’t say on our podcast but he totally effed it a couple times he ended up get fallen to fifth behind Lewis but then he made up for it and George kind of turned it on towards the end he got Lewis for third uh by a lap 69 to 70 so he still you know got up on the podium he did a good job but you know for a guy who started first and had a car with a lot of pace and was walking around going well let’s go get the win now let’s go get the win now it’s got to feel a little had to finish third yeah maybe I think I think because because of the change in weather I think uh that always plays into things it was fascinating to watch Mercedes go back and forth georgean I mean maybe we drank too much beer but to me George and Lewis felt like they were Trading Places constantly we always seem to see a Mercedes going past a Mercedes and and I don’t know because again we didn’t have the audio in the bar we didn’t even see the Lewis radio come on which I was surprised cuz I was expecting to see some team radio with ls is like why did you put me on the house don’t why Le go the if he’ been on the mediums maybe he chases down great to see Mercedes back up at the front uh great to see McLaren being spicy again and as like we said I don’t mind watching for stap and win when when you see the Finish Line shot I can see four more cars in the background it’s not 20 seconds of nothingness waiting for the next card to come around like as much as we enjoyed being there last year we had that video that we took of the Finish Line where Max went over it and it’s like crickets for about another 20 seconds yeah is so I can deal with Max winning a race like he won today because you couldn’t call it up until probably five laps out when Lando wasn’t making a dent into that 3se second lead you probably knew it was done but we still didn’t know what the podium was going to be because George and Lewis were fighting so and I think Max um I saw something on Twitter as we were leave in the bar um which was team radio for Max that again we didn’t hear in the bar uh you need to have a word with the land Lord there and get the volume on I was as happy as on TV well that’s true um max apparently came over the radio and said that you know that was really F that that was great that like he was stoked by that race because he’d been pushed he’d had to earn it um I think Max prefers to win when he’s not winning by 30 he wants to race somebody yeah he does and um so that that to me was a cracking race and if they’re all like that for the rest of the season I don’t even care if Max and red win the Championships because if they’re like that I can deal with it right we we did not know who was going to win who was going to win this race until maybe the last 10 laps and had there not been safety cars there would have been a different finish we had different people leading all on Merit not on chaos and craziness it was it was a lot of fun the one thing we didn’t talk enough about just quickly to before we close the race itself and then recap some of our thoughts about the big picture of the race but the Yuki incident oh yeah towards the end he cuts I think it’s 89 he cuts inside um um and he he comes out and this has actually happened to me in a variety of ways where you think you’re going straight on the wet grass and you think you’re going to come out fine and what actually happens is you come out completely out of control and he comes out out of control onto the track and as he comes onto the track sideways and we already talked about Carlos doing this as he comes out of the track sideways all of the cars that have been tailing him go flying by and most of them go behind him until it’s the hos and the hos sees him still Yuki heading towards the wall the outside wall there’s no behind him anymore so I think it’s Nico has to turn left and cut in front of him it is millimeters once again the bar was even the people there were a couple guys who don’t really watch F1 and they were watching this they’re like holy bad word um they saw this and it was a wild so so I’ve got a picture here from Twitter it was the um Formula 1 Channel put this out and said I’m going to show you a picture and you’re going to believe you’re not going to believe there was no red flag after this and there is a still of the two cars um wild it’s the H and the RB basically touching front Wings there’s there’s like the is at speed the har is at speed the RB’s cominging the wrong hasn’t it already bounced off and it’s coming back the other way like into it’s going is it going the but it it’s just insane it’s very very similar to that whole um Monaco tunnel thing last race where it was in the F3 F2 F4 F5 um last second Split Decision last second split decision to go around the the almost stationary car this was very similar to that these drivers their reaction times are phenomenal it’s insane absolutely insane okay so this week we do since we are live and having fun here uh in Chicago the land of the cicas by the way I went North last night with a couple guys about 30 minutes north no cicas so it’s not everywhere I can just tell you where I am it is um anyway we don’t have sound Paul just sent in a review thanks Paul we appreciate it Rob’s going to edit that in uh so we haven’t heard it as you guys hear it but how about we listen to Pit Lane Paul right now yeah and I’ll edit the music in so let just imagine the music’s playing now go [Music] [Applause] [Music] perfect each meide [Music] hey know Canada done um I’m still at the circuit it’s a little bit noisy in the background we got some rain falling story of the weekend started Friday lots of rain uh big rain like biblical rain like the world ending style rain rain that is um it was huge I can’t even begin to tell you how big the storm was but anyway that made for sort of like a delayed fp1 and you know a few cars all over the place and it it sort of proved to be the starting point for an interesting weekend um there were not a lot of opportunities to get dry running in as such so it made it quite good fun uh go to qualifying qualifying great Perez sucked I don’t know what was wrong there but they no one really knew what the order was going to be Ferrari seemed to struggle uh Mercedes looked great and then Lewis looked bad um then um our good friend Jack F decided to go on an absolute personal attack on Ricardo which is all quite good fun um and then from there uh yeah we sort of got onwards to the race and after two of probably the worst races I think I’ve ever seen um disgraceful races races that should be erased from my eyes uh we’ve had probably one of the the best races we’ve had now they always say the weather makes a massive difference to a race weend that’s completely true the you know mixed conditions does make it fun because does make it a bit more of a um of a lottery sadly I think I would have liked a little bit more rain for the start just you know has gambled on four WS it wasn’t the right move um it was they had to gamble they’re like us they’re down the back of the grid you might as well try something and like you might think yeah okay got up to P3 the only way that would have been a sensational move is if there was a red flag and then he could have came in in P3 uh had a free tire change but as it turned out you know it was never going to really work out that well unless that situation folded which they may have been hoping for if so brilliant you know that’s that’s strategy that’s a gamble you got to take so actually very unlucky he didn’t pay off for them um and then from then it was a chop change at the lead you know the top few Russell even Lewis was quick Max was backing forth Norris was backing forth pastri was fighting it was a really really exciting race there was battles all down the grid it was just it was just one of the better ones you ever want to see look let’s be realistic it was rain related end of story um so you know it’s not like we’re all going to go okay Fone saved after the the ball Fest of Monaco and IMA um but it just goes remind you that when the conditions are mix and people got to use their brains and isn’t so straightforward that can really have good racing um and aart of that yeah the driv market is still a little bit wide open SS obviously for some bizarre reason holds a lot of power I won’t lie I don’t get um you know he’s okay as he proved today you know it’s not like he’s a world champion driver that’s up for grabs I don’t really understand a big hype around it but he seems to be the one at the moment holding all the cards in the driver Market once he sorted out then everyone else will sort of like start to fit in place okon obviously announcing probably unsurprisingly after Monaco that he’s he’s leaving um but yeah a really exciting race weekend um I’m leaving tonight to go back to the UK Montreal has just been cold wet and murky this year it is a great City to visit when it’s it’s good weather when it’s not good weather it is a bit one of those depressing places that we have to go it’s muddy you know we are in the middle of well as you guys will know from last year you know if it’s wet it’s it could be a disaster um but it did make for one of the best races so let’s ignore the weather um let’s celebrate the fact that finally we’ve had a half decent race um after the last two and let’s actually look forward to Spain you know can be good can be bad it you know we’ll wait and see but absolutely good to watch today good that f1’s sort of back and people enjoyed it so on and so forth and I’m sad I didn’t change my fantasy team but since I’m probably somewhere in the bottom um quarter of the table I I really don’t think that matters anymore what I should pretty much do is just concentrate on really bad podcast reviews and ignore those uh great to be back with a smile on my face speak to and then we’ll say thanks Paul that was amazing we actually have no idea what you said but made fun of us that we just put it in there and do we go out in a limb and say he enjoyed it Paul must have enjoyed that right it was a good race but not good for I mean Val was up to 13 he was up to 13 pit Lane start I mean that’s pretty good yeah let’s Okay PA yeah we agree it was a great race oh damn it all right okay so as we already said you know Max won the race from Lando from George and at Adam listener Adam was with us that was his prediction uh yesterday he went out on a limb and said that is the exact finishing order but he did that after quali when he knew that Mercedes was good and after the practices Rob and I made our predictions uh on Wednesday before we knew that Mercedes was going to be good and before we didn’t before we knew Ferrari uh forgot to bring the right cars to the track and so that’s what we saw now I will say this rob you had Lando then Max then charl yeah and you had the other way around Max then Lon then Char so I got the top two steps right yeah you did ima all right yeah Monaco Charles right and now the top two steps right yeah and no you you are you are on a run I am and I would say that you know kudos to what I’m going to say you have a problem with the Monaco thing don’t you no no no I don’t have a problem with the Monaco thing I think what I had a problem with is like just because you got the leader right you tried to claim that was better than youra prediction I’m like it just but by any mathematical odds it really isn’t because imil you got one two three if you the book is to put a bet on and you want to either bet on the race winner or bet on one two3 in the right order one two 3 in the right order is always going to be wor is going to be longer OD so that that that was my only issue with the Monaco prediction but what I would say it’s between IMA Monaco and Canada and I did my predictions before I’d seen yours but then obviously I recorded the video knowing yours so I could react to the video correctly I’m going to say that the dirty side knows what it’s talking about because you know I got the front two the top two steps right but in the wrong order you got them right and in the right order which means as the dirty side we both knew Max and Lando were what the story was going to be about this weekend the dirty side knows what they’re talking about that’s what you need to take away from that so um and I will probably edit the music in here so let’s just pretend we’ve played the music for king of the pits but um it’s our King of the pits and the pits now and I think it’s me first for king of the P I think is first time yeah you first hey you’re the king of the p [Music] King of the pits this is actually really hard this week because so many options so many viable options there really are um I mean I’m probably going to Discount czecho and Joe and Charles and Ferrari in general um the king of the pits not the pits yeah we’re going to discount them from the king of the pits running right um see had the pace been there it was there for the taking for Lando had the front Wing magic carried on going it was there for one of the Mercedes but I’m gonna give it to Max because I’m just going to say that when his back is against the wall and he’s got now two Mercedes and two McLaren coming at him because his wingman is doing nothing nothing nothing to help him out and he’s got suspension which means that if he just can’t ride curbs um and obviously it didn’t look like the pace was there because he was getting swallowed up in the drying conditions he stuck it out and he and he and he rolled with the safety cars and he got the restarts right Lando needs to work on his restarts because oh my God he ruined that restart yet again it was almost the end of the first pit Lane straight and he was already 1.1 seconds behind Max so when it came to those clutch moments Max needed to be the world champion in the years he nailed it so I’m giving it to Max yeah I’m giving it to Max as well same reasons I really don’t need to go any further I’m just saying it doesn’t I love the fact there are Challengers I love the fact there are people up there with him he made a few slight mistakes but everybody did in these conditions Y and he took advantage of everything that was given to him and other people made bigger mistakes like the timing or Lando’s Pit Stop um George made too many larger errors trying to push too hard at times um yeah I I I think it’s got to be it’s got to be Max and now for the pits Rob who do you have as the pits you’re the [Music] pit and if you’re not going to say czecho Perez I don’t know what to tell you not to get ahead of myself here you do you know what I’m not Logan no Joe no did Ferrari yes okay nailed it eventually there were a lot of options actually when you think about it there were but and this is going to sound really mean we’ve almost come to expect that czecho is going to have weekends like this we’ve come to expect that Logan will have a weekend like this we’ve come to expect that saber are just going to be at the back and and at least valter managed to get 13th even if Joe didn’t be was able to get anything but but what how how do you go hero to zero like that where one week you are breaking the curse and winning Monaco the simulators are having you as being the greatest race Pace known to man in uh in Montreal and then you turn up with that and it’s even worse I can’t even give it to Charles because Charles was actually going faster than sints with a car that was apparently broken right he was he was given it everything he had and scence lost his front Wing I it on his own doing he ran into valter yeah it was just an awful awful week to be a Ferrari fan it was just all right that’s that’s a good call I’m giving it to czecho he’s riding high on a two-year contract whether it’s one in one as we already covered or whether it’s two who knows and he gets out qualified by Logan the SAR that’s a anyway I tried and so he gets out qualified by Logan the sergeant and then yeah just disappeared and then as I was saying in the bar he effed it into the wall and uh came back with his rear wing hanging between his legs like I’m sorry guys I stunk this weekend and then just pulled into the garage but good job on the two-year contract I’m really like as a guy who loved cheering for him when he was in pink at the pink Mercedes the the tracing Point racing Point team and have cheered for him for a long time I’m really running out of gas I think I’m I think I’m running out of time on the czecho bandwagon uh yeah well you’re going to get at least another two years of it nah I may have to just bail out completely as I realized I’m a slow learner as I realized being a Charles Charles fan and being a Lewis fan I’ve never really been a stock Ferrari fan I just don’t like I like Ferrari but it’s not like my team yeah it is now it will be so I’m I’m a slow learner on how things go but anyway that was the race uh we heard from Paul hypothetically we talked about King of the pits and the pits uh I do not have any stats because we drove here straight from the bar and we’re recording right now uh and I already covered a cool one about the qualifying poll times the second time that’s ever been tied I will say this for Fantasy really fast um it was a bad week for Rob so Rob do you want to quickly talk about some of the disasters that befell your fantasy team as opposed to me this time yeah I mean I tried to I saw that Mercedes were doing well so I decided to rejig my team to create some budget to to get Lewis into my team and um I think I’m going to be on negative points this week because I’d already got Charles and Ferrari in place I’d got McLaren as my Constructor so Charles as a driver yes that’s not good and you have Ferrari as a Constructor on times two yeah on times two two times negative and then you have Ferrari as a Constructor both both the NFS correct um I then got McLaren that done me a solid as a Constructor got Lewis because I made that room in the budget to bring Lewis in who’s done me a solid valter scored me good points by um all of his overtakes however the two that I needed to bring in to create that budget room to bring Lewis in were both of the other dnfs Alex albon thank you caros signs actually so Ferrari screwed me twice there because not only did Ferrari give me the dnf points but the dnfing of science led to them taking albon out so that was great and then the other one was Logan Sergeant because I needed to you I know how that feels I know how that feels yeah so last week when you were all crybaby about that’s my season over because my has double dnf and I was like yeah but that can happen to anybody Brian at any race so you’re not out of it it happened to me this week so I’m going to be the bigger man I think I have actually finished looking at the um the kind of provisional points at the moment Lewis scored me 29 valter got me six McLaren got me 53 woohoo great I’m making Sun hey while the Sunshine’s there lle minus 40 Ferrari minus 37 Alum minus 19 Sergeant minus 20 right now looks like I’m sitting onus 28 points I don’t know if anyone’s ever actually had a real negative that’s fantastic I love it I mean I I know you do but uh what you I had uh I don’t know I didn’t I’m actually looking at my team sep somewhere else so Lando I put Lando in I doubled his points so that was nice for me um I had Fernando who came home solid so that should be I mean not going to get a ton of points for a good point scoring finish like that I think you should give more value to that in F1 fantasy but I’ll take it just because it would just because it would work in your favor this week you no I actually think every week like like the mid the Midfield like the lower Point scorers and the higher non-point scor should get more fantasy points in my opinion but I did have Logan uh which is brutal um I had Joe thank for you for finishing saved me some points um and Hulk and but I did at Ferrari so that’ll hurt I will say this Michael Cron’s team hold on what go carry on a Michael Cron’s League that I’m in I have two teams it’s hard enough for me to manage one but I agreed to join Michaels because he’s a a good good fantasy player and and a and a listener so Michael thank you um I did make some of these swaps so I’m curious to see how my team works out I have McLaren and Mercedes which are going to do me well I have Lewis and Lando which will do me just fine I have Hulk and Joe which will be okay but then I had Logan so that’ll be my only negative so in a week when we saw a lot of people out they have actually updated the table here right it’s still provisional it’s still provisional but so you you’ve got 84 points this week that’s it yes okay where did I finish 23rd that’s pretty good for 84 points right I with my negative – 28 right yeah again these are update like last week they changed a lot these are provisional they could update a lot but right now my minus 28 is still nowhere near bottom of the table minus 92 I maybe I don’t want to name in shame um no we’re all friends here okay so it MFC MF coka has L Clair times two science Ferrari albon RB sonoda like this is negatives across the board The only positive points they got was Alonzo 13 points and RB as a Constructor 30 14 because I guess Danny Rick offset Coda so this was a terrible week because so many people were loaded into Ferrari so when I look at say um I’ve got my minus 208 right and if and I was very very close team to uh friend of the show fantasy F HQ Adam Adam that’s right he’s got like like I can’t find him now but we were oh he’s got zero he broke even get provisional these changed I know but Andy T Andy uh tals I win 13 points I mean so many people loed it yeah I mean it’s just one of those weeks where I know these are provision read them out later but uh next week when they when they’ve come through if you’d abandoned the Red Bull ship or the Max and any of that kind of stuff which a lot of people had and you’d gone all into Ferrari you were screwed this week very badly very badly and like we said Adam great job man uh not fantasy HQ but uh my friend Adam great job on getting the prediction right it was great fun being at the bar um you spoke about next week we will talk about the fantasy points next week we’ll get into that friend of the show fantasy Hub Rob Rob wants to get back on here and we need him desperately Rob we hear you you’ll be on soon brother and then uh we do have a guest for next week so there’s race next weekend and I want to do I’ll let you talk a little bit about the guest um and then when I close I want to make one note about the fact that I will miss a couple races and I want to highlight that oh yeah Rob is very excited to get rid of me yeah I am really am so um been bouncing back and forth of this guy uh mark scoffield on threads he’s uh a journalist he sub a lot work for SB Nation um covering NFL and Formula 1 and he’s been a great follow on threads and he’s actually really kind of interacted with folk and kind of um comes back to you answers questions he was the one that submitted um a question of ours to Logan Sergeant when he did an interview with Logan and he and he didn’t just submit the question and just pass it off as his own on the article he actually kind of linked Us in and said hey here’s a question from the dirty side of the Trap podcast so nice he didn’t need to do that and that was fantastic so I reached out to him and said any chance you want to come on the Pod and he was like yeah yeah definitely so last week we uh sat down with him had a chat and it was it was just brilliant um I can’t remember we we because we told him it was going to go out next week after the Canadian Grand Prix we tried to do some CLE jokes as if we’d seen the Canadian Grand Prix and what happened it’ be interesting to listen back to that now and see how completely wrong we were um but actually I did I think I did make a joke about seeing groundhogs on track so I think at least I nailed that that one um but yeah can’t wait for you guys to listen that because he was brilliant and you know sometimes you get people that you just rub along with really well and you’re just like we have to have you back on the show at some point in the future and he’s gone straight onto our list of people that need to come back cuz he was you guys haven’t listened to him but we thought he was fantastic yeah I actually think we’ve been really fortunate everybody we’ve had on has been fantastic just really great people but like you say some of them are we get along better than others uh even as in a good way like we just really clicked Mark is the best so enjoy that next week and just before you do your your shout out so last week we had uh Brandon on the Formula 1 Outsider yeah he was great and he told us this story about how with almost like no notice whatsoever he decided to fly to Abu Dhabi and just just go for it and just try and watch the race now I’m not putting this on the same scale as a flying to Abu Dhabi but um he put something out there on threads on Thursday maybe Wednesday that said um if any of the admin accounts that look after official Formula 1 teams will reply to this and and agree to do this I’m going to drive the 10 and a half hours from Ohio to Montreal to come and give you guys a high five and kind of you know one of those things nobody really followed uh nobody really answered then Red Bull did Red Bull came back and went well you better get you better leave now knowing it was probably a joke he just decided to do it so Friday morning he left uh and did this and he posted it all on threads his kind of like road trip to Montreal as he was getting closer he was like where the hell do I even Park how do I even go there so we gave him some tips from our time in Canada last year to park on the other side of the river from uh from downtown and lo and behold he did it he found as he was tell the story last week you can normally find a family who’s you know that guy that friend that brother that relative didn’t turn up and they’ve got an extra ticket he hung out by the metro and was just on both Saturday and Sunday and and got tickets for both days so he was there he living the high life and Well Done Brandon yeah well done for sure so next week you we have an interview with Mark um which is tremendous and a lot of fun and then after that uh we’ll we’ll preview Barcelona uh and I will be away for a couple races I have a family vacation uh and so when the Barcelona race is happening the the Spanish Grand Prix I will be uh watching it in Zurich I’ve just landed with my family and I will be unable to record as a it’ll be late and B the jet lag will be real the first day so Rob will record with as of now we believe Rob Reed and so will be a good American fill-in for me on the Americans uh leading Formula 1 podcast and then the next weekend is Austria and I will be heading west throughout Europe so I will not be near the track unfortunately I will be on a train the tgv from nce to Paris and so I will not hopefully have Wi-Fi and be able to figure out how to get it pulled up on my um on my uh iPad and watch that and then once we get into Paris I don’t think I can tell my wife hey I need to bow out for a while to record a podcast we just got to Paris um so probably not uh you won’t hear from me for a couple weeks but it’s all for good stuff and then I will return uh after the as we recap the Silverstone Grand Prix and as of now I’ll be at fp1 and fp2 I somehow talk my wife into both practice sessions that Friday I cannot wait so you’re going to be fp1 and fp2 on the Friday yes then fly back Saturday we head to the airport and uh fly back home and then and Sunday you’re going to watch the race and record the Pu with me as normal correct that’s the plan and then I got to go and then I have a work trip on that next week and I have two work trips the next couple weeks so I won’t be home for a full week for six weeks or so it’s going to be fun but with that I just want to say thanks to everyone for listening we always appreciate you dirty Siders this was a great race I’m really excited and Rob is to we were talking about this in the car even though it’s hotter than blazes um this season’s really shaping up better than we’d hoped for and having this many battles at the top this is what we were looking for so we can’t wait to talk more about these races with all of you thanks so much for tuning in you guys rock have a great week [Music]
