parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland but they’re going to be lighter here than what we saw on Wednesday otherwise highs of up to 18 or 19° but a Brisk wind coming in from the north so exposed to that it will feel quite chilly as we go through this evening we’ve got showers continuing across the southeast of England again still heavy at times through this evening they’re going to be slowly moving their way Southward further towards the West some late Sunny spells and across Northern Island still a few showers persisting and for parts of Scotland as well mixed in with some late sunshine where we’ll see High of 18 or 19° that warm feeling inside from box boilers sponsors of weather on GB [Music] news the latest GB news travel good morning I’m Russell holding T and where Metro Services aren’t running between South Gosford and Kingston Park because of a signaling problem buses replace trains other and Hexum after a land slip train services are suspended between Preston and car ly works overrun causing long delays on the M27 in Hampshire there’s a l closed dpan when someone’s broken down between Junctions 8 and 9 towards Farah that’s the latest you can stay up to date throughout the day by visiting our website GB newws docomo done enough do you think to actually help them out I think there will be occasions where people have tried to run a venture whether it be a papa restaurant or or anything sort of like that um in in in the hospitality sector and it hasn’t become commercially viable because of costs because of bad accounting or because of bad business people that that that is just a fact of life that happens in every sector so there will be publics that are closing because they’ve been poorly run but I do think um uh there will be occasions where people are forced out of the market so if local councils aren’t being able to pass on business rates for example maybe central government can do more it always tries to do more to cut uh beer Duty and things like that to keep pubs going um so I don’t think it’s neily just as as plain as what James is saying is that you know bad pubs will just inevitably be fallen by the the idea that you two gentlemen you raging capitalist support the government stepping in to protect pubs seems to me to be particularly peculiar if a pub isn’t commercially viable it has to be allowed to fail s KH you know he has a nighttime Zar that pays well over a 100 Grand yes and businesses are going under like you wouldn’t believe in London she’s a real nightmare what what’s your point well the point is that labor aren’t exactly helping out these businesses are they so I’m saying should not be protected by the state I’m all for a pub I’m not I’m not suggesting that we subsidize that has been suggested that’s what James mayor railing against although I have to say it’s all all very well for James man presumably is a very Posh gastro pub but if a pub is is not fit for purpose and may makes this point you know you’ve got to have decent clean l and a clean Pub and also you realistically in this age you know times change you got to put on some decent grub as well if you want it to survive we can’t have the government stepping in to save our pubs and anyway my understanding over the last 10 20 years as a percentage we haven’t lost that many pubs so they’re not going under anytime [Music] soon 9:30 on Thursday the 30th of May this is Brit’s news on GB news with Andrew Pierce and be Turner very good morning to you so it’s time up for Diane Abbott the veteran MP tells Sak starma I won’t be intimidated as she fights to remain the MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington this is a big mess for labor and Lawless Britain I’m afraid horror on the Streets of London as three adults are in hospital and one child are in a critical are in a critical condition after a drive by shooting and cynical Junior doctors the British Medical Association have come under Fire for announcing a 6 day Junior doctor strike ending 2 days before the polls open on July the 4th what a coincidence and booted out for Taylor Swift homeless people are being removed from Edinburgh to make room for Taylor Swift fans for her show next [Music] month she probably doesn’t know anything about that I bet she doesn’t but and she’s reading the paper sure know it’s an appalling decision isn’t it so I think what what’s happening is that the the homeless people who would be normally put up in local Authority hotels are being moved out to make space for the Taylor Swift fans is that the right thing to do if it’s a private business presumably you have a choice to who you want to have in your hotel jw.com your safe for all your thoughts this morning that and a lot more to come between now and midday first so Tatiana Sanchez with the news [Music] beev thank you the top stories this morning two bodies have been found in the search for a father and son who went missing during a hiking trip in the Scottish Highlands Tom Parry who’s 49 and his 12-year-old son Richie were you to return to their cheshier home yesterday after visiting Glenn Nevis and Glen Co in Scotland their car was found in the three sisters car park in Glen Co where they’d stopped on Tuesday to go Hill walking in other news the chancellor has accused labor of having a secret plan to raise vat despite Rachel Reeves ruling it out in a statement last night the shadow Chancellor reaffirmed Labour’s commitment not to increase income tax National Insurance or vat but Jeremy Hunt accused Miss Reeves of failing to make up her mind Shadow Chief secretary to the treasury Darren Jones told GB news the chancellor isn’t being upfront I mean that’s just not true I mean I kind of understand why Jeremy Hunt is trying to confect a story where oh you know the Tories have scored a point against the labor party in the election campaign but it’s just not it’s just not correct I mean Rachel Reeves our shadow chancellor has been consistently clear even before the general election was called that we think the tax burden under the conservatives has become too high it’s the highest that has been in 70 years on working people and we want that to come down because we want it to come down we’re not going to be increasing taxes on working people secur sters in Wales today to campaign alongside first Minister vau geing who’s facing a no confidence vote next week the labor lead is expected to recommit to investing in Britain’s steel industry amid concerns over job losses at Port Talbert steel works it’s understood he’ll also outline plans to cut NHS waiting times and recruit more teachers and police officers and a child is among four people shot near a restaurant in Hackney in East London police were called to Kingsland high road at 209 last night they say the child remains in a serious condition no arrests have yet been made for the latest stories sign up to GB news alerts by scanning the QR code on your screen or go to GB news.com alerts now back to Andrew and [Music] Bev very good morning it’s 9:34 this is Britain’s Newsroom on G news with Andrew Pearson Bev Turner well it won’t go away for labor it’s a complete mess from start to finish Diane Abbott the veteran labor MP now says she will stand in the upcoming general election by any means possible in other words if they try and kick her out as a labor candidate she’ll stand as an independent amazing this they they’ve really messed this up she directly addressed labor leader s starm yesterday telling him that she won’t be intimidated it isn’t just Abbott’s future as a labor MP that’s under question Lloyd Russell Moy has said that he had been suspended by the party and could not stand under the party’s Banner at the next election he’s in a Brighton seat but this is a really interesting point fisa Shaheen who ran Ian Duncan Smith within about 12200 votes at the last election in his chingford constituency she was deselected yesterday for the chingford and Woodford constituency over some past post and social media both of them corbon knites coincidental possibly not was starma right to throw Diane Abott out of the party so joining us now is former MP labor MP Bill raml and former advisor David Cameron Philip blonde good morning uh gentlemen um let’s start with you then bill um this has been handled horribly and there’s sort of a whiff of um dishonesty about it if kiss sta wants to clear out some of the Corin nights maybe he just should come out and be clear about that look I’ma has been but I don’t think this has been our finest Hour um look I’ve had many disagreements with Diana but but she is a significant figure she was the first black female MP um she’s made a significant contribution to British politics uh she did do wrong I mean you know the statement she made uh that um there was prejudice against Jews but not racism was wrong albe it she apologized immediately but the process has gone on for too long my understanding as best I can is that a putative deal had been done whereby the whip would be restored to Diana so she came back as a labor MP but she would then retire with Grace and dignity from Parliament that was torpedo when someone within the labor party not I hasten swad the leader’s office uh said that she wouldn’t be allowed to stand under any circumstances Kia has now said no decision has been made and technically that’s true it’s for the NEC next Tuesday but I actually hope uh given the risks of this distracting from from Labor’s positive campaign for change that she is allowed to stand next Tuesday before we bring another guest but if I can pick you up on a couple of points and good morning to you um firstly you do not know it was whether it was starmer’s office that briefed that story which was on the front page of the times it was written by a very authoritative correspondent who knows labor very well and secondly hasn’t K starma got questions to answer because as recently as March he was saying this is an ongoing disciplinary process about Diana but in fact the labors NEC concluded its uh inquiry in December and Diane abber completed an online course about anti-Semitism so hasn’t he got questions to answer about his own role in this affair well on your first point Andrew um I you know I’m I’m not in the know but I’m reading detailed briefings in the Press where it’s clearly been briefed that this wasn’t uh a briefing from kier’s Office secondly the process has gone on too long yes from what I read it concluded in December but since then there’s been further dialogue between the NEC and Diane about a further apology and that’s been protracted but I’m not defending it you know this was an open and shut case and it should have been concluded much sooner we are now where we are uh and as I say I hope given the opinion is hardening on all sides and there is risk to here not for now but for the longer term you know three years into through a labor government he’ll need support across the party and the diabat decision is concerning not just the left but people in the center and the right of the labor party it need now needs to be dealt with and I hope that U allows Diane to stand as a candidate next Tuesday let let’s bring Philip blond in Philip blonde um it is an extraordinary position where somebody like me is writing in the Daily Mail that um Diane Abbott has been turned into an unlikely Mar by K starma I do not agree with her politics I I think her she’s far too Hardline and left WI an extreme but it appears to me she’s been bullied a 170-year-old woman has been virtually bullied out of the Party by people who must be thinking they were acting with the good wishes of the labor leader and as bill raml says she’s an iconic figure the first ever black woman MP she’s taught in Black History Month she’s taught in politics lessons she will be an iconic figure forever yeah yes she will and I think the the original offense was should have been apologized for but it was hardly the worst case of anti-Semitism in labor and I think she spoke awkwardly which you know she has a history of doing um and I think she was basically trying to say that black people can’t escape the color of their skin whereas um others can and she didn’t Express that well but I’m against Council culture I’m against kind of excluding people because their opinions differ um so two points really in response to that I think K starma has done extremely well and is very strong on anti-Semitism and we know that a large portion of the left is captured by it so so I think he deserves plaudit for excluding clear anti-Semitism and those who Advocate it from the party including um uh letting an MP be elected under the labor Banner but not supporting them I just don’t see quite how Diane abber falls into that category and therefore I it’s kind of something you see on all sides of the party which is a very centralized control of who gets to be an MP and as a rule that means you end up with kind of quite mediocre MPS who who parrot a standard line and and in the end if you look where our country is which is polarizing rapidly um were the majority populist vote has no Representatives that is a concern for the legitimacy of democracy and this is just true of the conservative party which you get once again is managing the lists and and putting liberals into seats uh as it is of the labor party so so I think that the the point is is we need voices that differ from the norm um if our democracy is to retain legitimacy and that’s why probably like you Andrew not my politics but I don’t think she should be excluded from Parliament um bill it’s not been a great week for labor in this election campaign has it do you think you felt like the sort of momentum is sort of stuttered of a little bit this week look I think we’re talking I think we’re talking about the last day or so um and I think this needs to be nipped in the bud it needs to be made clear I hope that Diane will be allowed to stand as a labor candidate but there is a broader context you know Kier has shown real strength of leadership by rooting anti-Semitism out of the labor party kicking Jeremy Corbin uh out of the labor party and I think that is part of the way he has changed the labor party and dragged it back to the center ground but you know Diane abber is not Jeremy Corbin Corbin always thought he was bigger than the labor party that’s never been the way Diane has projected herself and I just hope that you you know this won’t do IR reparable damage but there is a risk at the moment this is dominating the headlines it’s distracting us from the positive agenda for Change and it needs to be dealt with and I think it needs to be dealt with quickly and if I you know I’m I’m a very strong supporter of K starma but one criticism I would make that at times of Crisis sometimes the decision making is too slow this need dealt with quickly the um Philip um Bill Ramos says he’s been very hard on anti-Semitism in the labor party when Karma was leader of the Labour party a number of people quit the front bench in protest at the rampant anti-Semitism in the Labour party K sta wasn’t one of them he carried on serving in um starma Shadow cabinet in backed him at the 2017 election backed him at the 2019 election that doesn’t smack to me of being strong on anti-Semitism until he took over his leader well Andrew you and I both know that if you’re a career politician it’s all you essentially have to maintain your position until you can make a difference look I would exclude uh rigorously anybody with anti-semitic uh kind of overtones from from the parties I think that’s right and I’ve said that but I I think we can’t gain say k Stormer on this I think I think um he supported Jeremy because he had to I don’t think any any of us felt that um uh you know felt that he in his heart did and when he’s in a position of power to to make a difference he has and so I think I think that’s that’s how all politicians who aspire to leadership behave so I think I think I I can’t really join you in in that criticism I think that what instead we need to to look at is we now have um uh a significantly polarized um country we’ve got actually rampant anti-Semitism on our streets the the anti- semites and the free Palestine movement have merged and there’s we’ve got Wars of minorities on minorities and so so it’s we need as a democracy in the middle of this polarization if we don’t want to go down the the American route to kind to be as broad as we can in creating a new consensus and I don’t like the the authoritarian centralism if you forgive the phrase that that we see from both parties because that means that the the population at large is at several times removed from our representatives and that will harm democracy yeah uh great point to finish on former labor MP Bill Ramel and former advisers David Cameron Philip blonde there I think the other thing for me is that makes me slightly worry is this is a a labor issue about my racism was worse than your racism which is effectively what Dian Abott was trying to say in that article black people have get it much worse than Jewish people and there’s a sense that people want to move beyond that sort of identity politics at the moment in this country I don’t want to be staring down the barrel of several years of those sorts of debates about who has who has it worse because what people really want is to know who is going to deal with law with Law and Order cost of living they’re the bread and butter issues but but but this could have been handled a lot better and the we we now learn that the Labor’s NC isn’t going to decide about D up until next Tuesday this is going to run for days Livy has got in touch thank you Livy labor thought they had until later in the year to get Diane Abbott out because we thought the election was coming o the surprise election that blocked starmer’s plan there’s probably a lot of Truth in that that’s absolutely right um jna said this is something that should have been sorted out months ago bad Management on Labor’s part jrma said at last two presenters I can listen to thank you very much JRM and um kg has said Diane Abbott the first black female MP and ever since has been a great example and representation of the black community as you say she’s she can be very unpopular among some people she very divisive because she’s got some appalling views she can be quite grumpy in real life I’ve heard quite tur she can be um I mean let’s face it we’ve met quite a lot of mmes who can be a bit like that as well um and also Adam has said all they ever say about abber is that she was the first woman black MP it undermines that sorry sort of undermines when they then say that in her 37 career year career she had made a great contribution to politics and public life and she of course has a stoning majority in her constituency yeah 33,000 majority one of the safest seats in the country so if starma doesn’t tackle this she could just come out and say I’m going to stand but I’m going to stand as an independent and could cost labor in other SE up next Lawless Britain a child is in a serious condition and three adults are injured this morning after a driveby shooting outside a Hackney restaurant last night that’s right in London driveby shootings we’ll have the latest sounds like we in America doesn’t it doesn’t it Britain’s Newsroom on G news if you want your news to be straight talking this is the nightmare for the conservatives again down to earth it’s not just notum where this is happening is it and and most importantly honest hardworking middle class taxpayers they’ll get the book thrown at them they catch me Martin dney Monday to Friday 3 till 6:00 p.m. on GB news Britain’s News Channel I’m Gloria depierro this is GB news Britain’s election channel headlin is Toro’s papers tonight every night from 11:00 p.m. apparently alcohol abuse is costing 27 billion a year I mean In fairness that’s the price of two rounds in London Nicholas yeah tell me about not that I’m a big consumer of I’m very Mediterranean in my consumption but revealed alcohol abuse costs soore to 27 billion pounds a year so this cost uh basically encompasses a variety of aspects from health related problems so the cost on the NHS lack of productivity people who lose their jobs Social Services and all that and of course it has been on the rise 37% more uh compared to last time this was studied in 2003 so now Institute of alcohol studies and some other groups are pushing or asking for tougher taxes and tougher regulation but is that the solution like in in ancient Drome they said in medium stat virtus like moderation virtue is in moderation and again if they’re going to raise the price people like myself or or yourself who are consumers pardon you’re going to turn to heroin because it it’ll become I mean well this is what’s happened in unaffordable so yeah in Scotland they had minimum unit alcohol pricing and so it pushes up the cost of getting off your tree for your average Scottish nerell likes to sit on a bus stop and drink a bottle of cider so instead they’re turning to street drugs which are cheaper by comparison that is just terrible I like that the alcohol industry have come back on this a guy called Matt Lambert who’s the chief executive of the port group and they represent the alcohol industry uh and he says that the IAS that’s the group who who’ve created this have failed to take into account the significant direct economic contribution of the alcohol industry to The Wider economic and social benefits of moderate and responsible alcohol consumption but it’s so true is it we’ve got a declining birth rate we need people to get drunk and chat each other up good afternoon Britain good afternoon Britain weekdays from midday we bring you the most compelling stories from across the United Kingdom and why it matters to you from your doorstep to our inbox that’s right we want to hear from you good afternoon Britain only on GB news the people’s Channel Britain’s News Channel I’m Michelle jub and this is GB news the people’s Channel Britain’s News [Music] Channel great good morning 9:30 9:50 Thursday morning another example of Lawless Britain hideous event last night a child is in a critical condition and three adults are injured after a driveby shooting in London Police arrived at the scene after gunshots were heard near a restaurant in Hackney an investigation has been launched but no arrests have yet been made so we’re joined Now by former met police detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville Mike when you hear these we hear these reports you think did they really say that was in Britain it’s the sort of thing you expect in America um because we don’t we don’t have such a the same gun culture here but is this happening more and more now well the the level of gun crime Rose uh slightly um last year but I think that the it’s not just a gun crime it’s the shocking nature of this crime I mean 12 years ago my team dealt with a case where a young girl a 5-year-old girl was shot in a Sho in Stockwell when three Lads were shooting at another another man so uh these things do occur but I just think as you’ve highlighted we we tend to think of these things as some kind of you either see in the states or you see in some sort of drug riddled uh country in South America and it simply says to people that have the police you know how they losing control of the streets and that’s a real worrying thing for people it’s a very young population in Hackney uh Mike uh population’s about 260,000 people um 47% of the population come from black and Global majority groups with the largest 21% being black or black British 36% of the population are white British um it does raise some questions I think this issue about crime poverty young men in particular um and how we tackle that issue on top of major punishments well absolutely I mean the big thing the only way really the police can Target these things on the streets is by stop and search and of course stop and search is very unpopular in uh in places like Hackney but we’ve got to be honest about this and say that there’s a real problem with young black men and and and violent crime we don’t know the suspects here but when it comes to knife robbery for example we know that 60% of the knife robbery uh knife murders in London are by young black men young black men are often the victim of these uh uh things as well and they represent about 2% of the population of London so it’s a it’s a real big problem the police are almost uh have their hands tied you know they damned did they do they damned if they don’t uh and so it’s it’s really hard if you’re that young officer on the street and not only that but we also see that we we still walk around in a Victorian way with a piece of wood in a in a police officer’s trousers a trenen or a taser at the most and so we have to rethink how do we do policing when we’ve got incidents like this occurring and we shouldn’t forget the police and crime commissioner for London Mike is sadique Khan and he is the one who wants um less stop and search absolutely what what you have D is you have both main parties who who have to share some blame here it was Theresa May who a conservative who did her best to reduce stop and search and then you got a Labor uh sadique Khan also uh trying to reduce surge so you got two yeah have been in power a long time the clock’s beating us Mike uh good to see you again as always um don’t go anywhere this is Britain’s Newsroom Katherine has your very important weather a brighter Outlook called to Kingsland High Road 20 n last night they say the child remains in a serious condition no arrests have yet been made former Scotland Yard detective Peter Blackley told GB news violence is an increasing problem in the capital the criminal history books are littered with cases like this that end up with Revenge retribution tip fortat and it wouldn’t surprise me although I sin sinly hope this doesn’t happen that within a few hours or a day or two we hear about yet another shooting because these kind of cases are invariably linked to the illegal drugs industry which of course is not regulated it’s a wild west out there and what the police will not want is more shootings more injuries possibly loss of life Ireland’s national police and security service are involved in an operation alerts now back to Andrew and [Music] Bev very good morning it’s 10:07 here on Britain’s Newsroom on GB news let’s have a look at what you’ve been saying uh at home a lot of you are sort of conflicted about this Diane Abbott’s story particularly saying how come Andrew is suddenly so sympathetic to Dian abot given that you haven’t been for many years no I’ve never been sympathetic to her ever I’ve opposed on just about everything she’s ever said or done but she’s been bullied Yeah Carl says Diana is the first black woman in Parliament should have been a shining example of how Society has changed however her attitude towards people who are not like her is a clear demonstration of the very thing that made her appointment such big news only applied in the reverse Direction uh he said she should be called out for this sort of um hypocrisy Steve said lived on the Islington Hackney border my whole life and Hackney of course is where this shooting happened last night not the first shooting on my doorstep no this one was only 200 M away from my door multiple stabbings weekly never reported drugs rif which fuel this weed and crack smoked on the streets with impunity please turn a blind eye until the shootings happen it’s always too late so sorry to hear that KH on all of this when do we ever hear from him on it you know he go said last week he was in Rome talking to the pope about global warming what an outrage he’s the police and crime commissioner for the capital keep your messages coming GB news.com your say I’m just looking and sadique Khan has not tweeted out anything this morning about the shooting in Hackney cuz he was treating about shooting and stamps in London he’d be doing it every day yeah we join out by the editor at large from the mail on Sunday Charlotte Griffith Charlotte great to see you this morning um specifically on the Diane Abbott story then let’s let’s start there this is what are we on Thursday it’s been a busy week for labor and there’ve been quite a few setbacks it feels in their campaign this week none more so than this it reflects very badly on them doesn’t it it’s so unedifying and they’re supposed to be the anti chaos party and nothing is more chaotic and I read your piece today Andrew I mean if Kier starm has got you sticking up for Dian Abbott then he’s made a bit of a blunder hasn’t he hasn’t is that extraordinary yeah it’s it is extraordinary actually to see but it’s just it is chaotic it is chaotic and now he’s saying he’s not going to make it s until Tuesday um seems very un challenge his his own role in this because he’s been saying constantly this is an independent process uh whether she’s readmitted to the labor party over a letter she wrote In The Observer The Observer clearly didn’t think it was a racist anti-semitic letter those it wouldn’t have published The Wretched thing but I think the letter was offensive so why does it take a year but then we discover actually the inquiry was done in December and he was telling us as recently as March the inquiries ongoing he wasn’t telling the truth I think this is the first proper outright lie I’m sure the first of many that he’s been caught out on and it’s what week one of the C of the serious campaigning and whether I mean he’s saying he he wasn’t he didn’t know he’s leader of the party he’s member of the national executive committee that’s been conducting the whole inquiry and he’s a control freak yeah yeah I mean he and he’s a real details man which is actually what Mak him very different from Boris and one something he’s very proud of but this is a serious detail to have overlooked and what are we now it’s nearly June and this was concluded in December and he didn’t know um and it does it does worry me slightly that you know here we have yet another politician leading a party who tells outright lies and gets caught out one of our viewers was in touch to say they wondered they were speculating whether this is just a case of one of the benefits actually for um Richi Sak of of calling the election early and catching a few parties on the Hof that they weren’t prepared for this and actually he had wanted to sort out the problem of Diane Abott by the end of the year and suddenly that opportunity was taken away from him I wonder if that’s true I think it’s I think it does make sense because he was probably hoping to sort this out very subtly very slowly over a period of weeks before the November election and if K starma I mean if richy sunak knew that then you know fair play to him this is a political win for him isn’t it he and he’s B and of course he bounced reform as well because that they weren’t ready for an election but the other thing this will play look Labour’s already in trouble with the mus Muslim votes because of its position on not calling for an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza this is going to really alienate a lot of black voters who traditionally vote labor to um I’m think of africaribbean uh Diane Aver from Jamaican immigrant the son of daughter of Jamaican immigrants I mean he’s managing to alienate core part of the labor vote that was the first thing I thought I thought you know if this goes badly African and Caribbean people will will not vote for him you know black lives matter that is big movement and and her life matters and and the end of her career matters and should have been handed handled in a dignified way given that she was the first ever black female MP I mean that is just that is a fact I’m afraid and he should have found a way to do it diplomatically I made the point today that she’s actually part of Black History Month she’s taught about black history and she’s taught in politics lessons in schools who is the first black woman to be she’s always going to be yeah a a figure of political substance just because of that in its own which is why she needed to be treated differ it is it is and it’s why it’s just a very serious strategic failure and and such an obvious one and actually if he was really racially aware of of then maybe he would have thought of this but he didn’t just sounds like a they bullying a 70-year-old woman um Charlotte you live in in London and um am I right you live in quite diverse part of London as well don’t La Grove labt Grove in West London just next door to Notting Hill which people will will have heard of um we’ve had this shooting last night in Hackney and Hackney is one of the most diverse communities in London it’s a very young Community there as well more than uh 50% of the uh residents there are under 35 55% are under 35 years old there are populations which are Turkish uh Kurdish uh Vietnamese Orthodox Jewish communities Caribbean it is one of as we might say one of these melting pots it also has one of the highest crime rates what does this tell us about changing demographics quickly in certain areas of this country god well it just shows that we haven’t United communities at all because you know they are saying that this could be a Hackney versus Tottenham gang rivalry not sure they’re nobody sure which Community yet but why are we having this I don’t go to war with people in nting Hill because I live in lbert Grove it so makes me so sad that we can’t just live amongst each other like this and uh yeah it it’s just like Notting Hill in a way because actually hatney has got a lot of very wealthy people in it as well because it’s really trendy so these young people from the city live there and as you say it’s a young community so there’s LS of young families there and I’ve got LS of young M friends that live in that area and it’s really sad to think that there are children getting killed in the crossfire because of some gang sort of battle that’s going on and I have to say and I don’t know if this is narrow minded of me but I always sort of thought I’m sure me and my children will be safe because I’m not involved in a gang and I don’t get involved in turf wars so I hopefully I’ll never be killed or my children will never be killed but actually what we’re learn is that’s not the case because when guns are involved unlike potentially stabbings when guns are involved you can get caught in the cross they happen to be walking near this restaurant we don’t know who was the target it’s also the prevalence of guns I mean we always talk about knife crime but the prevalence of guns how where are they coming from what is Sadi Khan doing B pointed out nothing from the mayor of London today about a shocking shooting in North London and he is the police and crime commissioner for London always slagging off the Tories um over quite rightly the police numbers they cut and he was right to do that but he’s the one who doesn’t want stop and search because it disproportionately affects the black community yeah um this as B was pointing out it’s it’s a largy black community in Hanney yeah clearly stop and search we have to get over our fear of talking about stop and Surge and and people are calling it Carnage sadique Carnage you know Community Carnage and it’s it’s going to take off and yeah and that’s actually taking off on Twitter not one tweet from Sadi Khan today nothing I mean let alone actually standing Carnage sque Carnage they’re calling it and that’s lots of different communities are calling it Carnage because you know black communities also don’t want to be involved in this kind of stuff um and it’s obviously outliers um I think we do need more Bobbies on the beat and I’m afraid I do I do think stop and search doesn’t need to be this horrible dirty word anymore because all communities want their children not to be caught in gun Crossfire Absolutely I’ll tell you what Sadi Khan was tweeting about 3 hours ago he was tweeting about no fault evictions in London London surging by 52% uh saying that no fault evictions are uh a betrayal the failure to ban them as a huge betrayal well I’m sure that’s very important but what’s a bigger betrayal is his failure to to keep the street safe absolutely I’ve noticed a big change in my lifetime at the streets and how full of crime about your kids as they’re getting older definitely yeah of course of course Charlotte stay with us for just a moment we’re going to go to Somerset to see how libdem leader SED Davy is getting on with his campaign he’s on a paddle board this morning where is he today another gimmick oh no no what an idiot so I’m sorry it seems that Ed Davy’s campaign is becoming like a round of it’s a knockout if you’re old enough to remember it’s a knockout I’m afraid I am what is he thinking Andrew well he’s just turning into a buffoon so we had him yesterday cycling down a hill with his legs flapping up and down like that uh and then before that throwing himself off the into the water four times from a kayak what do you think charlot I think get purpose yes he is they said with the paddle board thing that he did fall in once or twice on purpose but the other seven times were um sorry were on purpose not by accident clearly he just wants attention well it’s working but I’m not sure is he is he playing like the Boris card or I can be a bit of a Wally and people will footage here we go again he’s in Somerset oops hopefully the cameraman hasn’t just slipped over on the bottom of the slide there well hope doesn’t collide with her Davey why is he if you’re listening on the radio we must explain he’s obviously at a water park he’s on one of these massive inflatable slides he came down the slide on a big yellow inflatable ring he’s now s in a two ring he and he’s captured a poor child who looks desperately scared and desperate to get away from this rather peculiar man who’s clutching on for de life I’m not sure if it is a child that oh it’s another man he well well let’s not what that man got in his hand well let’s not read too much into this here they go here they go down the slide here they go down the water slide what is the man carrying in his oh it’s a microphone it’s a reporter he’s managed to put a reporter in the front seat of his two-seater yellow inflable ring and the guy’s got a m can I just say to GP news if they have any idea that they want me to accompany Ed Dave in one of these juvenile gimmicky stumps I ain’t doing it I’d quite like that you know I was I am do it here’s my resignation sign me up I’d quite like to be in an inflatable room with she wants me to she wants me to resign that’s what she means I mean there’s there’s a bit of fun and but this is just too much gim I just wonder whether because he’s appealing to those sort of sorry voters where everything’s all sunny and nice and sweet maybe that’s what he’s trying to do he doesn’t really want to draw attention to gun crime or crime or really serious issues today he’s trying to be the playful well a lot of his a lot of his photo to stunts which is what they are are around water so he’s trying to raise awareness and people feel really strongly about clean rivers clean seed we talk about that rather than make yourself look a complete that was a water park that was a water park but I guess remember William P did the water park many years ago he with his baseball cap on ridiculed years that red his career for a long time did really did and I think this is be I think he’s becoming a laughing stop I think you guys should be racing commentators by the way you commentated very well on that slide if he was in a slightly better shape it might work better maybe not every time he wear tight clothes you draw attention to his belly it’s not very nice belly is hanging over those shorts he’s not a good look for the man who would be prime minister if he wants to be prime minister and a jacket yes and and he hasn’t got the legs for it either honestly listen to Brad Pit you’re having a go yeah but I wouldn’t do it I wouldn’t do it I’d like to see you do that that would entertain me for days well just say if GB news have any plans I’m not doing it Charlotte thank you Charlotte griffi thank you so much right our doctors using you the patients members of the BMA are set to strike oh guess what a week before the general election is it a political move yes has to be this is Britain’s Newsroom on GB news Nana aqu weekends from 300 p.m. what about the elections cuz it seems that the king and everything is moving because of it and we’ve got a lot of Royal engagements and things that happen at this time yes well you know it means that he has to take more time and be at home he can’t go to all the things he wants to do he’s been doing five a day which is probably made Camila a bit cross um but what they still hope is that they can get the Japanese emperor an empress over that’s in July that they can he go to France for the 80th anniversary of the um fighting and um he he will be able to do one or two things and ask what he’s very keen to do now those aren’t things that are political in any way just want to talk about Harry and um Charles’s argument where Harry said he didn’t want to stay he wanted to go to a hotel and it’s come out now that actually um King Charles is is believed that he was um put into offered St James’s and Princess an stays there and betri stays there this was for when Harry came over came and the policemen are wanding around with guns and there’s no chance of actually there being any problem there so the fact that he said that it wasn’t safe for him was not actually um a very sensible thing to say I don’t think well he went to Nigeria and that is in in the world ranking it’s ranked as quite a dangerous place yes one of the dangerous places in the world but now they’ve been Harry and Megan have been invited to go to Ghana god well it’s interesting cuz my parents are from Ghana I have ghanian Heritage and I’m think thinking she’ll probably then claim there’s a percentage that she’s garan as well I’ll be like hang on a minute you were maltes you’re also Nigerian now say you’re G and German come on thank you very much squeeze it in yeah let’s get them all in Angela 11 thank you very much thank you the people’s Channel join me Camila Tomy every Sunday at 9:30 when I’ll be interviewing the key players in British politics and taking them to task this report basically says that he’s not fit to stand trial with an upcoming election looming over Westminster now is the time for Clear honest answers I agree and that’s precisely what I’ll get is he inde decisive incompetent that’s the Camila tomin show at 9:30 explore and debate openly the issues most important to us our family and of course the British people having challenging conversations to Enlighten each other which is why we hear all sides of the argument we are the people’s Channel we will always stand by the freedom to express yourself on TV radio and online this is GB news Britain’s News [Music] Channel 10:23 with Britain’s news And1 GB news with Andrew pi and B Turner the noise you can hear is car going through her notes and the political commentator Jonathan is here as well morning to you both morning car you probably nearly fell off your chair when you saw me writing positive things about Carol Malone in the mail today about Carone never about dibert D I mean you and I probably have always agreed with DT we never agree with the word she’s ever said but never agree with single word she’s ever said however um what I couldn’t believe is the way St starma and his cohorts have treated her because whatever however you look at her she’s been a loyal Co cohort of the labor party for the last 35 years she’s been an MP I think for 35 or 37 37 37 years um and and you know and do I think she should be standing as EMP no I don’t I think I think she makes too many gffs I think she says stupid things she plays the race card too often for my liking and she upsets people and that’s one of the reasons she’d been suspended because of a of a um a supposedly anti-semitic remark that she made so do I think she should be standing no do I think she should be afforded some kind of respect some kind of humanity having served the party for that long yes I do um and I think the way I think this says everything you need to know about starma labor party this is the party that actually doesn’t give a stuff about women generally no matter women leader they’ve thrown a few women into positions in the past year knowing that you know the elections coming up but they they generally are not um cognizant of the importance of women in this country so I think I think they’ve treated her appallingly I do as say I do think she is a liability that’s it it slightly smacks of this sort of I’m sorry jonath but the left sometimes do this hash beind but only to certain people that we think it’s fashionable to be kind to at a certain point in time this woman regardless of what you think of her character her communication skills her his her her politics she is totemic for that period of time for to be the first black woman we know who keeps saying it but that was Blazing a serious Trail absolutely uh look I would say that it’s not the left that’s in charge of the labor party uh the left has talked about be kind uh they are the ones currently being kicked out um so that’s I look I I kind of I think we might have a rare not of agreement on this panel I’m sure nothing to do with uh political points scoring Andrew anyway um but look D ABT she’s been a brilliant MP and if you look at the things she was saying in the 80s and 90s uh she was an absolute Trailblazer such an iconic individual uh and so inspirational for for so many people in this country not just black people also people you know s of on the left people who are interested in Progressive politics uh I would not say that K has a woman problem Carol I say that he has a problem with the left and and we see K was a man who said not too very long ago we must the labor party must throw a protective arm around Dian Abbott to protect her from all the racist abuse you get how does that square with what he’s just done to her very public I mean look starma is clearly surrounded by people with a visceral loathing of the left and Jeremy I think that we can all agree with that it’s not something I approve of but I think you speaking completely dispassionately that’s what’s happening and I I don’t think that starma wakes up in the morning with new ideas to hurt Diane Abbott but clearly there are clearly there are people who have botched this completely uh they did give her back the whip so she could so if she is going to leave Parliament today because parliament’s dissolved today then she can leave as a labor as a labor MP with a head held high that’s now she but now she says she wants to stand and obviously um starma is saying that she hasn’t been banned from standing so well no he wasn’t saying either raw actually he was he he denied that she’d been banned hang on just to be clear here the she agreed she got the whip restored so she’s back in the lab part she’s very happy she’s got this dignified exit so she can stand down at the age of 70 as a labor MP and then she reads with horror a front page story in the times coming up that evening which says definitively she’s being banned from say written by a correspondent who’s very plugged into the lake party and I would be certain The Source came from St I’m sure I’m Andre I you can’t you can’t be saying if it’s come from star’s office he’s not responsible because he is have to say about him as a leader well Carol we know that there are people in all kinds of political offices who uh don’t get things right who step out of line go above their pay gr look I’m not saying I’m not saying it’s been handled well let’s go back a bit farther now come on because I’m I’m not going to have this about him not be thing back in he’s been saying now for months that this is an ongoing process the investigation into anti-semitism it is not an ongoing process it was finished in December the investigation finished in December so he knew that and he’s still saying it’s an ongoing process so he has known all the way along so he is very aware I think he’s actually lying well look look when he said that I don’t know what he knew when he said the the process had was still ongoing it might well have been I mean look if I suppose you could have a generous reading that says the process is still ongoing the ENC hasn’t decided whether the labor whip hasn’t decided he’s a he’s a leader of the party a control freak leader party quite right he’s a member of Labor’s NEC committee which concluded in December the investigation was over and her punishment was to do a 2hour online course on anti-Semitism he did know that Andrew and yet he continued to say it was an ongoing process smack SMI to me he’s lying yes I am extremely thrilled to tell you that I’m not uh K spokesman and I don’t know what happens in K’s mind look if K sta look I would welcome a journalist asking starma exactly what he knew about Dian Abbott but and you think we’d get a straight answer point the fundamental point is that I believe that Diane Abbott should be given the right to stand again in Hatley North and if she want done lab St St has insured her longevity now she probably was going to slip away quietly iric would it neither she was going to reti she she W retire she probably should but no she won’t I said Master there’s a broader conversation here which I am happy to have about the way that labor the labor leadership was treating members of the left you had fisa Shaheen who I think is brilliant is astonishing a completely um horrifying came with 1200 of getting in Duncan Smith out in chingford personal for her because you know her you know her mother died and she blamed the benefit system for that and obviously Duncan Smith was the architect of that benefit system it was very very personal to her and she was looking forward to of taking the political fight to in Donan Smith in a seat that is very winnable for Laban now and I just feel so so sad for her this happened and then also you know you have a really difficult relate issue about Lloyd Lloyd Russell Moy uh labor MP for Brighton kemptown who announced yesterday that there had been a complaint made oh please because a complaint made about him which means that he’s now suspended and unable to stand all the complaints that were made about the Tories in the past two years where labor demanded that there were immediately susp Carol I’m not I’m not issuing any of Jud on the substance of the allegation I’m saying that there is a problem in politics when someone can make a complaint right in the window where if you have a suspension then you are not going to be able to be a labor MP or an MP a lot a lot of Tory ministers have complaints made against them and the demand from labor was that they’d be suspended immediately while investigations were going I don’t know what the answer is but it is a problem before we wrap up this section let’s just take a little look at Ed davier I want both of your opinions on this this is Ed davier award part this morning promoting the liel Democrats trying to win your vote here he is what a joke it’s a joke he’s in on I think it’s brilliant no one’s talking about Li Den he looks rid and people look if he we himself looks like he’s enjoying himself looks like he’s weing himself there’s a difference politi he makes Prat Falls they just again he’s still weing himself I mean and a politician who makes prattles and is in on the joke why would you do that seriously why would you do that because he wants to show that he doesn’t take himself seriously and he’s in on the joke and talking about like no he doesn’t he he looks like he looks it’s a bit like that moment with what’s his name kinck where he found that was different K wasn’t in on the joke on the joke if you’re J and you look foolish it’s not politicians take themselves serious let’s askers and lists do you think it’s clever politics by Ed Dave or do you think he’s making complete laughing stock of himself gs.com your say let us know your thoughts first though thank you both Jonathan and Carol Tatiana has the [Music] headlines be thank you the top stories two bodies have been found in vat Shadow Chief secretary to the treasury Darren Jones told GB news Jeremy Hunt is not being upfront I mean that’s just not true I mean I kind of understand why Jeremy Hunt is trying to confect a story where oh you know the Tories have scored a point against the labor party in the election campaign but it’s just not it’s just not correct I mean Rachel Reeves our shadow chancellor has been consistently clear even before the general election was called that we think the tax burden under the conservatives has become too high it’s the highest that has been in 70 years on working people and prioritizing Early Childhood a causes we know that she’s closely associated with yes the task force findings claim that the UK could reap 45.5 billion pounds in economic benefits if firms prioritize Early Childhood well let’s talk about this now with our Royal correspondent Cameron Walker good morning Cameron and I suppose it’s characteristically Catherine isn’t it to say wasn’t doesn’t want to distract from from this report by sort of people talking about her health but we should start probably by saying she said she’s not feeling well enough to come and and talk about this in public but sort of saying she’s watching it keeping a close eye from behind closed doors yeah absolutely this should not be seen as a return to work by the Princess of Wales but I have been told she’s a read the report and B been briefed on it but this all stems really from her work when she started being a working member of the royal family where she was working closely uh with people suffering from addiction mental health problems and what she found is all of these issues tend to stem from a poor start in life so the first 5 years of a child’s life so in January 2023 she set up uh shaping us this awareness campaign for the early years two months later she convened uh the business task force so eight members big businesses across the UK and over a generation that could add uh as they claim more than 40 billion pound to the UK economy each year we spoke to Peter Grigg yesterday he’s the chair of Home starts UK a charity which supports young families let’s hear what he said about the princess’s role in this it’s been a real driving force behind the report and everything it’s done and when we’ve uh spent time with the Royal Foundation what it does it reminds everyone that this is really important work and early childhood matters that more businesses should get involved that more Charities are out there for people who want to do more to support families and children so it’s been a wonderful experience the people’s Channel [Music] so we’re crossing over now to labor leader sakur starm who’s launching the party’s election campaign in Wales and thank you all for that incredibly warm reception when we walked in it was fantastic to see everybody in the room such a great feeling and abeni what an amazingly beautiful uh place what a beautiful constituency we ar last night the Sun was shining it was absolutely stunning uh not long ago Vic and I and the kids were at Cal we um we holidayed up there and you know it’s a really beautiful part of Wales and many people in this room will have been to the bear Pub I’m sure in Cal uh the food there is if you haven’t been make sure you go before you leave this part of the world and as Caroline Harris will attest Vic and I holiday in Wales every year we go down to Swansea uh she looks after us and last year in the ga uh we’re in oxwich actually it was really really beautiful so I love being here and it’s fantastic to be back here um today in Wales and what an opportunity what a chance to launch our campaign because rishy suak has finally called the general election he’s given us our chance to take our case to the country and I don’t know about you but I think Wales has been waiting for this general election for a very very long time uh wish you soon sorry that isn’t Rich you said it’s only week one of the election he’s talking about rich it’s so frustrating isn’t it when you want them to come on and tell us your what going do stop the rest right we want to introduce you now to um John and Michelle uh renle have a very uh sad story tragic story and um John you’re facing a terminal brain cancer yes but you also having to battle an insurance company at the same time um what’s happened tell us so I’ve got a Grade Three ASA brain tumor um I once I was diagnosed I tried to do my claim with um my insurance company and was rejected um it was then they then also canceled my life insurance and also canel my wife’s policies as well and this is Zurich Insurance joh and their point was because You’ you’d had um some dizzy spells which you hadn’t told them about they say dizzy spells equates to uh brain tumor which there’s no to support that and the guy I was talking to suddenly turned into some medical profession they ignored all of the medical profession they IGN I was with King’s College Hospital they ignored them King’s College Hospital were the experts they so I had my surgery is with that’s what I’ve been with the whole time um they ignored them to the point where they actually weren’t even replying to emails um and the policy that you they weren’t paying out and you were expecting £25,000 yeah that was a critical illness claim critical illness because you’ve got a critical illness clear it couldn’t be more critical could it bra and but they flatly refused flatly refused that um so they refused that early March and then it peeled it and then they out right final response end of March was the end of March and why did they cancel your policies Michelle well according to them reason for it there was no reason for it once we once d m got involved as well um once I argued it with him they then turned around and said that was a mistake that they computer ER and then they wanted the payment for the two months that we miss that was the other thing they didn’t ask money for the two months that they deleted the direct debit and they and then they reinstated the direct debits themselves to take the money yeah Michelle you you’ve got a lovely poorly husband and you’re also worrying about play paying the bills and what the future holds yeah what impact is this having on you on a day-to-day basis I try not to think too much about the future because it does upset me um I’m kind of thinking when John does go I’m left with a mortgage to pay and two young children how old are your kids five and three right yeah so it’s incredibly tough and are you working I haven’t worked since having a children right that’s a decision we made when we had children that was I was going to stay at home and look after them and obviously look after John now which is obviously some £25,000 would have made a huge difference yeah so it would make a difference when John’s still working and his um office has been really good to him yeah my company they’ve been really good they’ve been really supporting what you do what you do John I work for a company called smart Office Solutions um we Supply printers photocopies into he does so he’s working so you can work from home yes I’ve been working from home doing support calls and the IT side of things in the in the grand scheme of things this amount of money is a drop inan for a company like Z and that must be both saddening and infuriated I think they could they could make all this go away because it’s been big social media side of things as well with friends different companies all sharing everything all our story and and I’ve I’ve read some of the statements s we’re sorry to hear of the very difficult circumstances Mr renle is family experiencing you’re terminally ill and they’re calling that difficult circumstance how did it make you feel when you read that I I’ll just find it completely insult I’m incredibly angry about the whole situation angry I feel insulted um it is angry and the way they their letter where they their final response in the thing their actual wording was we deem this a deliberate misrepresentation of yourself so if you accused me Al because you had dizzy spells and you didn’t because I didn’t tell him about a doctor’s appointment after the policy side and they also said in the letter cuz I originally went in the hospital in June but they didn’t know I had brain tumor they didn’t know what it was to was a mess on the brain no cancer mentioned anything it was just a mess in my brain they turned around and said if we’d known You’ gone into Hospital in June we would have canceled your policy there and then let’s see the other half of the statement from Zur they say the report provided by Mr randle’s GP confirmed that he had experienced Medical episodes before the policy Started Mr rendle had a duty to disclose this information to us before the 1st of May 2023 as your GP been supportive yeah yeah yeah gp’s wrote letters um there was no doctor’s appointments I I’m very R I’m a very healthy genely very healthy person consider don’t go to there was one one very slight disy spell in February which you thought nothing of otherwise we would have obviously done something about it that he’s not had headaches he’s not had any symptoms of having a brain tumor even now with knowing that he’s got brain tumor he still hasn’t got any symtoms how long has you been with Zur Insurance well this thing this was the thing we we changed policy from we was with Royal London right um we’ve been with him a few years we changed policy on our financial um guy who does our mortgage now said this is a better deal runs along with your mortgage right change we changed on the 1st of May was side dear you’ve got a go fund page running now as well haven’t you how’s that going that’s gone over 25,000 which is which is the we had some really nice we’ll get the address from you can I ask you a very personal question John do you know how long you’ve got no no they haven’t they’ve the whole way through they’ve told me it’s life shortening but they haven’t said how long at the moment I’m in a very good place I’m I’m fit other than what’s in my head I am healthy I had a I had an MRI scan yesterday on my brain um yeah yesterday Tuesday sorry yeah sorry yeah so I didn’t and I’ll find out in a few weeks the results of that and that will tell us whether because they could only the surgeries I had they only removed half tumor the other half is inoperable because of um veins and arteries going through it sure so I’m on a year of chemo now right which is to try and control the is That Knocking you out making me very tired yeah you finished your second round yesterday I’ll do five days in a row tablets um finished it yesterday morning it does make me very tired have you got support Michelle we got friends and family that are very supportive yeah I’d be lost without them yeah so it’s the moms that kind of have to keep the ship afloat isn’t it on and how are the little ones doing do they know that dad’s they know that um he’s got a bad head they’re obviously very young so there’s only so much we can tell them they’ve seen him in hospital they know that he’s not very well but generally dayto day he’s quite well so they just act like a five and a three old which in some ways is good and other about ways is bad yeah but um it’s tough yeah it hasn’t it I’m I’m a big Arsenal fan bad luck didn’t win well yes I know I know but arsenal were were brilliant they um so I’ve got a season ticket yeah and one of my friends who’s been doing lots of stuff for me he contacted Arsenal and they agreed for me and my son to go down and meet some of the players nice after a game yeah so little things like that have been amazing yeah it’s been a bad year but we are trying to do things give what’s so what’s the crowd what’s your crowdfunding page called how do we find it um so support renle family fight against brain cancer if you put that into your Google support rle which is if you’re listening on the radio it’s spell r e n d l e family fight against Brain cancer and that will bring you to the just giving and I know your MP Adam Holloway is backing you too isn’t he so was no my my watch is just just had um donations oh brilliant oh that’s great that’s that’s GB news readers and already about five about five donations have just come in thank you very much well that’s great well look very best of luck you two can we keep in touch with you absolutely and um and let’s hope they do the right thing that insurance good luck yeah that’s good luck meet you thank you for having us on Pleasure right stay with us a lot more to come between now and midday this is Britain’s Newsroom on GB news good morning welcome to your GB news weather update from the Met Office it’s a case of Sunny spells and showers today but it is going to be Breezy giving a cooler feel for some of us so through this morning we’ve got a band of rain across parts of Northern Wales into the Midlands and the southeast that’s gradually going to sink its Way South WS it’s going to break up through the morning and that will leave a case of Sunny spells but also some heavy showers breaking out some of these could be on the thundery side as well showers still persisting across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland but they’re going to be lighter here than what we saw on Wednesday otherwise highs of up to 18 or 19° but a Brisk wind coming in from the north so exposed to that it will feel quite chilly as we go through this evening we’ve got showers continuing across the southeast of England again still heavy at time times through this evening they’re going to be slowly moving their way Southward further towards the West some late Sunny spells and across Northern Island still a few showers persisting and for parts of Scotland as well mixed in with some late sunshine as well but we have still got that brisk wind coming in from the north so as we go through Thursday evening and into the overnight period any showers should gradually continue to sink their way southwards breaking up and fading away that will leave plenty of areas with clear Spells at times but we are still going to hold on to quite a lot of cloud especially across the parts of Northeastern England into the southeast with some patchy rain here otherwise towns and cities holding up at around 10 or 11° but under the clearest Skies temperatures falling into the single figures so mix start on Friday morning plenty of dry weather around especially further west that you are but across Eastern Parts especially across parts of Yorkshire and down into East anger in the Southeast cloudy conditions here with some outbreaks of generally light rain but best of the brightness is going to be focused across the West chil in the East but further towards the West that’s where we’ll see highs of 18 or 19° I’m Patrick Christies every week night from 9: I bring you two hours of unmissable explosive debate and headline grabbing interviews what impact has that had we got death threats and the bomb threat and on our job is to do what’s in the best interest of our country you made my argument for me my guest and I tackle the issues that really matter with a sharp take on every story I’m hearing up and down the country that was a beginning not an end Patrick Christi tonight from 900 p.m. only on GB news Britain’s News Channel hello there I’m Aon Holmes thank you for joining us on GB news Britain’s News Channel we’re proud to be GB news the people’s Channel and as you know we always love to hear your views now there’s a new way of getting in touch with us at gbs.edu company says you’re have your money honestly I hope she looks after herself Michelle I did say to as she left keep make sure you keep your tank full as well when the families are going through something like that the women often have to keep it all going right Junior doctors are striking for 5 days next month but it’s at a coincidence it was announced on the same day that Labour launched its NHS election campaign well let’s ask Junior Dr baser M who’s been a regular on this program lovely to see you this morning doctor um a coincidence it seems like too much of a coincidence on the very day labor are trying to talk about health somewhat sidetracked by Diane Abbott the BMA announces 5 days of strike in the run up to general election unprecedented I’ve never heard of that in all the years I’ve been covering general elections look it has to be strategic we’ve been trying to be strategic throughout the BMA have been in conversation with the government for three months when the strikes were halted again and yet again we’re now over a year into this strike motion and the government have still not been able to offer something reasonable and it’s really quite taxing on us as well to just keep feeling like There’s Hope and then the Hope gets taken away I think this is a very strategic move by BMA and also the junior doctors to essentially create some political um debate and also right up to the elections allow the public to decide who they want to vote for essentially just because ultimately the public are suffering as a result the junior doctors they’re all suffering as a result of all of this commotion that’s happening Dr M do you really think a 5-day strike a week before a general election is going to get you a 35% pay rise I’ve never heard of anything more ridiculous this is a blatant political strike and who cares about the patients who are going to have their appointments canceled I think this question needs to be really asked of the government no no I’m asking you the question I’m asking you the question because you’re supporting this strike yes and I I hear what you’re saying in terms of patients feeling like this is going to affect them ultimately the dates of the strikes are also including the weekend dates when a lot of things are um you know on minimum um answer the question do you really think this is going to elicit any more money from the government 5 days before a general election we can only hope that this will it oh come on come on you’re an intelligent woman it’s a political strike it has it has to be a political strike because we’re dealing with good you’ve admitted it then good you’ve admitted it why didn’t you say that in the beginning I I’ve admitted that we’ve or throughout the whole period this has been a strategic move to get the politicians to listen to us that’s been the aim throughout Health secretary Shadow Health secretary West streeting was interviewed this morning baser and he said I will say now we cannot give this thir 5% pay increase we just can’t so he said we will talk to you we will negotiate but that’s off the table um but you’re still going ahead with the strikes I think that’s all he can say at this stage isn’t it West Reading is doesn’t wield any power at this stage himself he he however is stated that he’s open to discussion and he’s open to offering us alternatives to maybe this 35% figure I spoken to him myself and he has offered that although this can’t be done immediately there’s a possibility that this can over time there needs to be conversation that needs to be continued it’s really really saddening that after three months of conversation yet again the government has not been able to offer us anything anything that’s reasonable at all every single person in this country currently knows somebody that has been recently disappointed by the NHS whether that is seeing a GP being on a waiting list getting treatment it’s horrific out there and as much as I think doctors should be paid probably better than they are there is this apparent lack of compassion from doctors about how Bleak the situation is for the public there is nothing we can do about it this is the whole point of the strike the strike is you can call the strike off gaining more staff we are losing Junior doctors at every single year and this is adding more and more pressure why do you think people can’t get appointments with their doctors because they’re AR enough doctors we can’t get hold of doctors we keep having to employ people on a lcome rates who don’t know the system they do not get the continuity of care you’re not going to get the same level of care if you do not have staff retention that is what this whole purpose of the strike is okay all right Dr bash Basher Muki good to see you uh again as always um we’ve run out of time it’s nearly 11:00 already a disgrace are but are we laughing with that Dave or are we laughing at him oh I’m doing a bit of both he’s definitely in on the joke he definitely knows that he’s playing to the crowd and he’s raising awareness of Clean Water that’s why so many not the kind of water you were talking about Andrew but that’s why so many of these clips of him involve water parks and paddle boarding and stuff I think it’s good I like it do you gb.com yours say let us know your thoughts first though here’s [Music] Tatiana be thank you the top stories from the GB Newsroom Sak stama has launched his election campaign in Wales where he’s assured that his party are the party to help struggling households with the cost of living the labor leader also recommitted to investing in Britain’s steel industry amid concerns over job losses at P Talbert’s steelworks he also outlined plans to cut NHS waiting times and recruit more teachers and police officers sakir rejected the notion that the Prime Minister was laying an ambush by calling the vote early and added it is time for change with that sense of national renewal taking our communities our countries forward for the F for the future and so I say to you if you’re a family that’s been struggling with the cost of living for a long time now and I mean struggling struggling across Wales struggling elsewhere if you’re a business that’s been absolutely up against it these past few years meanwhile ped cryy is launching its general election campaign at an event in Banger the party’s leader th upworth is there promising to keep the conservatives out of Wales and keep labor in check in the brilliant catching wager in this new seat of bangara bonwe we see what pled KY is made of champions of our communities champions of Wales people who will always fight against Injustice whenever we find de meanwhile the chancellor has accused labor of having a secret plan to raise vat despite Rachel Reeves ruling it out in a statement last night the shadow Chancellor reaffirmed Labour’s commitment not to increase income tax National Insurance or vat but Jeremy Hunt accused Miss Reeves of failing to make up her mind Shadow Chief secretary to the treasury Darren Jones told GB news the chancellor isn’t being upfront I mean that’s just not true I mean I kind of understand why Jeremy Hunt is trying to confect a story where oh you know the Tories have scored a point against the labor party in the election campaign but it’s just not it’s just not correct I mean Rachel Reeves our shadow chancellor has been consistently clear even before the general election was called that we think the tax burden under the conservatives has become too high it’s the highest it has been in 70 years on working people and we want that to come down because we want it to come down we’re not going to be increasing taxes on working people in other news two bodies have been found found in the search for a father and son who went missing during a hiking trip in the Scottish Israel’s offensive has prompted an outcry from global leaders with an air strike on Sunday killing at least 45 people foreign editor for Jewish news Jam Kino told GB news is part of Benjamin netanyahu’s effort to contain Hamas this is where Hamas has been smuggling weapons and other things into Gaza Israel said they found 20 tunnels that crossed into Egypt so this is a very significant strategic uh aim for Israel that they now control this and in terms of the political situation nanyo is being bombarded with criticism from left and right yesterday Another War cabinet minister said that he has failed miserably in achieving the aims of the war which is to bring back the hostages and to defeat Hamas he said he’s delusional and that he calls for election also uh starting September 11:07 it’s Thursday B bank holiday but I don’t never know what day it is on these these weeks when we’ve had the had the Monday off right let’s see what you’ve been saying at home you have been busy thank you ever so much GB news.com your say uh AAL says um the junior doctors tell us an average weekly tell us an average weekly wage and we can make a decision I think that’s a really good point we talk about this 35% 30 you know it’s hard to well some Junior doctors run 90,000 not all of them but some are because Junior they’re Junior doctors until they reach the level of consultant they’re not Junior many of them David says I would just like to say that I will not be voting in the general election because I was only going to vote for Nigel farage the rest of these so-called leaders are compulsive liars and that is my opinion anyway um so that’s a vote loss for reform yeah that’s it’s going to be I’d love to see a bit of polling on how Nigel’s decision not to stand has actually affected the support he was the biggest beast in reformist Jungle of course he was and a lot of people were sort of pinning their hopes on him standing for them I did watch Nigel’s um conversation with Tom Harwood later the day because we were on air when he released his statement and it sounded in Nigel’s statement I think it was uncharacteristically um badly toned that because I think Nigel gets those things right but I think a lot of you responded in the way that we did here which was to say well hang on a minute this looks like Nigel’s privatizing America over the UK and then I watched his interview with Tom that evening and I actually changed my opinion on that a little bit because what he was saying is the world is a dangerous place it’s really two sides of the same backside here if it’s conservative versus labor and he was saying I will concentrate my efforts on America and Trump with an aim to Bringing about world peace which might sound Grand an apologies Nigel if I am paraphrasing there that wasn’t clearly verba in what he said but I thought he made a good case actually as to why he would support reform for 6 weeks and then turn his attentions to America but I know that are lot of you at home feel disappointed by that um what else have you been saying um John has said no Beth he’s a joke I presume we’re talking about Ed Davis and he’s making the party into a joke what do the post office people think about it it’s a very good point because of course he was in charge of the post office at Dave he wasn’t he when yeah all of that uh was going on and Craig says I was 8020 in favor of voting reform over the toys but a labor government terrifies me I’m now switching more towards voting conservatives to keep labor out that Craig is exactly what I’m talking about I think the reform voters who even those who felt dead set on it sort of changing their path a little politically at the moment for all sorts of reasons um right uh moving on uh shocking example last night of Lawless Britain a child is in a critical condition and three adults are injured after the shooting in Hackney in London Police arrived at the scene after gunshots were heard near a restaurant an investigation has been launched but no arrests have been made at this time our reporter Charlie Peters is there at the scene uh this morning uh good morning Charlie for those people who are watching outside of London what kind of area is Hackney and how safe does it normally feel well dlon High Street here is a bustling City area it’s in the central East London this area is popular with all sorts of communities very younger people here lots of students but it’s a mixed Community as much parts of East London are but last night they were in shock and there was chaos here but shortly before 9:20 several shots were heard in the restaurants on the street just behind me where a motorcycle pulled up and a man shot at a restaurant here four people were hit all of them were taken to a major Trauma Center one of them a child we understand currently in a serious condition and the most troubling part of the situation of course is that we do have a mass shooter on a motorcycle on the loose the uh Metropolitan Police confirmed last night detective the deputy assistant commissioner Matt Ward had said that fast moving inquiries were ongoing but there’s no information this morning on how that investigation is going so that person is still on the loose the London Ambulance Service as you can imagine they deployed very heavily here last night alongside the Metropolitan Police the Met special task force the territorial support group and specialist Firearms officers swarmed this scene but just before 920 several people hit in what we’re we’re not sure about the motive behind this attack but it appears specifically targeted at the restaurant behind me here at the scene now very quiet inquiries continue but no arrests at this moment he thank you so much uh Charlie Charlie Peter’s there in Hackney so labor Civil War not a great start for the first week of the campaign is it and who’ have thought it was Diane Abbott of all people would trigger it that’s right because of course kiss D has been accused of calling the left particularly in the form of Diane Abbott from his party you know fisa sha Shaheen who was going to be Labor’s candidate in chingford she fought the seat last time against syan dun Smith the former Tory leader she found out yesterday she’s been dropped as well so decisive action worthy of a prime minister or or has sta made a mess of this we’re joined Now by our Southwest of England reporter Jeff Moody who’s been speaking to voters in Devon about what they think morning Jeff where exactly are you good morning well I’m here in a fairly Sunny South Molton this morning um I’ve been talking to people for most of the morning about what their beliefs and thoughts are I must say a lot of people have been saying they really don’t care less which I think is quite worrying but that does seem to be the message people have seemed to be very very disillusioned well I’ve managed to uh speak to a couple of uh small business owners Paul you own the print shop down the road don’t you I do y um are you disillusioned I wouldn’t say I’m disillusioned uh I think I’m a little bit concerned about what the future holds at the moment over the coming 5 years um bit difficult with the campaign at present uh no one’s really showing a Way Forward uh it’s only just been announced and I just don’t think theyve got their policies sorted out just yet uh who do you think has got their policies more sorted out who would you Veer towards uh at the moment I’m sitting right on the fence to be perfectly honest with you uh in North Devon here it’s a very strong uh liberal Democrat area um and so they are will be campaigning hard uh the seat here in North de is held by the Tory candidate um you know so it’s really a two horse race here but it’s just nobody has yet really there’s a lot coming out from Rishi sunak at the moment uh but it’s almost knee-jerk and uh headline grabbing policies nothing really that affects us here as a me as a small business owner okay thank you very much well David you uh you work in the insurance you run the insurance uh company just across the road don’t you um has anything U what sort of um what stands out for you so far um so far I think it’s a bit of a a slow burner um it’s easy for the current government incumbent government to uh you know elaborate on policies and bring out new policies obviously the opposition are are waiting for their Manifesto launch and then they sort of flesh out their policiy so it’s early days for us the electorate and us as business owners to um judge you know who and where we should put our our vote and our trust and um trust and integrity is a big big issue in as a business owner what are the main issues do you think what are you looking for from the partons I think it’s stability in all honesty we we we’ve gone through a an unprecedented period what with uh the pandemic covid uh we’ve got a European war going on currently these outside factors have uh really affected um our economy and the and the environment that we as businesses are having to work within um both as a small business and we are a small business but the larger conglomerates as well so it is that stability we need a period of stability where hopefully we can then plan and invest and go forward Paul we saw a very shaky start from Rishi sunak out there in the pouring rain with things can only get better blaring in the background but since then the Tories have sort of Taken control a little bit haven’t they they they lead the agenda at the moment in terms of policy that’s they release policy that’s what people are talking about throughout the day is is that how you feel that they they’ve turned a corner in their campaign they turn a corner in their campaign and they’re releasing a lot of policy uh but they’ve been in power for a long time time and suddenly they’re coming out with lots of new policies well why hasn’t some of this fed through in the past 14 years it’s a bit like somebody coming into my shop and saying well you what’s the best price you can give me so I give them the best price they say well I’ll get it cheaper down the road and then I come back and say well actually I’ll do it a bit cheaper get the do it from the start don’t come in a little bit later on and trying to entice people in um so I think that’s my concern and David’s already said about it it’s also a degree of credibility um you know we really need to have some focus and particularly here in North Devon um you know we’ve got a big problem actually it sounds mad but we’ve got a big problem with lack of dentists um you know we don’t have access to a dentist in this town really an NHS dentist but also this road Network the road network is in a terrible State down here um and that’s playing big on on you know electric mind everyone here more or less drives a car or certainly uses the road but they are just crumbling you know um they’re not potholes anymore the roads are actually worn out so I think whichever government comes in uh whichever the party comes in they need to have a credible plan to actually increase significant funding not just to Devon County Council but to All County councils because they’ve been starved over the past 12 years of necessary funds okay David um labor is now saying they’re the company for business is is that how you feel it do you feel that they’ve turned a corner that they’ve turned a page and are now a credible uh Force when it comes to business I certainly think they’ve moved more to the center to become more electable um whether or not that actually means there the party for business it’s too early to say so many of their policies haven’t been announced um I’m assuming that the um that those who are higher pay grade than myself have factored in a labor Victory and the banks and the and the markets are are you know factored that all in and ready for it um so I can’t say that labor necessarily are for businesses for the future um and touching on what Paul said you know the conserva been in 14 years I agree but at the same time rishi’s only been in in power for the last couple of years type thing and his influence is now coming to the fall very bold to go early I thought he would go in the Autumn um when there’s a bit more momentum to the recovery lower interest rates electricity bills fuel bills come down that sort of thing but he’s gone early I think he’s a man of integrity more so than his predecessors but he’s picking up that poison chalice so you know that that’s his bed and he’s he’s got a lie in it and work with it so we move on from there gentlemen thank you both very much indeed Integrity seems to be the word that’s coming out of this chat uh as to who has the most Integrity uh we don’t know at this stage but I’ll hand you back now if you are have if you are in the area if you’re in South Malon in North Devon uh this morning do come along and uh tell us what you think but for now back to you thank you Jeff how love it I’d love to be in Devon today and isn’t it brilliant I love hearing what the public think they’re always so smart uh they’re all so they’re not in the bubble which we probably spend too much time in yeah I’ll speak for yourself uh right still to come almost 2129 million was lost in Courier fraud last year how can we stop fraudsters from targeting particularly the elderly you don’t want to miss this it’s Britain’s Newsroom on GB news [Music] are the newspapers getting you down my wife didn’t divorce me that month struggling to separate the wheat from the chap I know that it’s a bit of a circus at the best of times well don’t worry Headliners has got you covered we’ll take the burden of reading the day’s news and if we get depressed who cares it’s an occupational hazard frankly that’s Headliners on GB news from 11:00 p.m. till midnight and the following morning 5 till 6: a.m. on GB news the comedy channel nah just kidding Britain’s News Channel this is GB news Britain’s News Channel how does it work in your home then when you’re discussing politics especially uh with your young son Nigel well I mean that that we discuss politics rather than argue about it um we both of us are political professionals we’ve been in the game a long time so we understand understand that um so we’re more keen on what is actually going on and how things are working out than clashing opinions now Claire is a Tory Tory brexiteer I’m a labor remainer do you think relationships like your own are going to become less and less common I think they are and I think we can see that politics has become very divided it’s become very toxic and we’ve lost that art of debating I’m more than happy to speak to anybody on any subject to do with politics because I think it’s only healthy to listen to someone’s opinion you may not agree with it you may think that they’re ridiculous however I think it’s really important that you hear those views because if you only become encased in a bubble of your own opinion you’re never going to learn anything and I think politics needs that you need to be able to explore other sides of an argument it also makes you better at arguing yeah and Nigel and I constantly disagree on various bits and pieces but you learn how to place your arguments so much better because you know what the other side are thinking now if we had that across the country and across the House of Commons we could have so much better debate and so many better different opinions coming through and it would be a lot healthier and polite debate which always strikes me about you two you disagree on on most things when when it comes to politics but you do so with so much humor and so much respect for one another well we we find politics fun and so when we bring politics into the home uh we want to have fun fun with it too Britain’s election Channel join me Camila Tomy every Sunday at 9:30 when I’ll be interviewing the key players in British politics and taking them to task this report basically says that he’s not fit to stand trial with an upcoming election looming over Westminster now is the time for Clear honest answers I agree and that’s precisely what I’ll get is he indecisive incompetent that’s the Camila tomin show at 930 every Sunday on GB news the people’s Channel Britain’s election Channel [Music] 1122 with Britain’s news on GB news with Andrew Pierce and be Turner we have the panel back Carol Malone is here Jonathan Miss is here seconds out round three or four whatever is we’ve had round two out there actually sure something else now let’s talk fashion oh yes let’s talk election fashion the catwalk This is very wearing very jum Jonathan can I just say so people getting in touch saying you had that jump on last time you were on oh that is such a fa part how anyone remember that I didn’t even remember that amazing isn’t it I think it’s nice I think it match your eyes don’t worry I did wash it I did wash it everyone it doesn’t smell I can confirm who’s whose fashion are we talking about we’re talking this is this is interesting how two different papers cover cover in essentially the same story so in the da ma they’re running a piece saying that starma on the campaign trailer was wearing a 500 jacket now this is a make and you’ll know this m make B it’s called sandrew I know it and can’t afford it um you know a jumper is like was a hoodie there he is this is a hoodie a hood that’s a Sandro hoodie doesn’t he look Splendid and it looks terrible um but it doesn’t matter and then another story is about starma um with any 750 sunak any 7 Star tunak we do that all the time two s’s yes so and he’s got a 750 quid backpack now you know you know but I don’t like it and I think it’s very insensitive however the doing the opposite wearing you know wearing dumb down clothes and stuff from you know Home Bargains or whatever is is also cynical in itself do you know what I mean because Su suits cost about2 and a half th000 and starers people make the point all the time I forgot where he gets them from but they’re about £350 which is frankly not a lot for a bloke suit because if you’re in it all day like I am they’re going to wear it and go very shiny very quickly but you know starma is a billionaire and and it will be a very simp say st’s a billionaire his wife is a billion his wife oh I’ve done it again God Almighty because because they’re so sort of similar you know this is a thing clearly they’re they’re not similar in many ways but in terms of who they are be D bed know um but in terms of the fact that they are very very wealthy people who’ve made lots of money and and also politically I find them quite hard to distinguish between the two we get the mixed up there’s a world difference between starm and sunak on pretty much everything but not sunak is as Carol was was I think trying to say sunak is a billionaire he’s married to a billionaire clearly he can afford you know the most expensive things that money can buy does that matter does it matter Jonathan I think it well that’s there’s really interesting conversations we had in politics about whether rich people whether super rich people can ever actually understand what it’s like to be poor Michael has Rose very far as Deputy Prime Min the tour party he’s a very rich man worth 500 million nobody made a fuss about his money I think that I don’t and I don’t think people are necessarily making a fuss about the fact that but people take exception to the fact that his wife is a non-dom for example potential conflict of interest you know when the child care policy was announced there questions asked about what financial interest his wife might have in one of the companies that was you know providing services that is where that is where people his M shares have a massive that’s that’s where people um have have the right to be interested I do think there are questions to be asked about whether C I can ever identify with people who are poor he talks about his family and when they first came here and how they had to to work and they struggle he talks about a gpy talk I mean that’s not such a big struggle some people sitting at home on you know who are on low pay jobs would not if you’re a doctor it’s not a big struggle but but I I I do think to do the opposite is very cynical to to dress down to wear cheaper clothes to try and connect to people you know you connect to people with the way you talk to them you connect to people with you talk to them about the life experiences and and to be honest the jacket and and I don’t think it matters it’s it’s a particularly British thing I couldn’t I wouldn’t have thought American politicians are given the same scrutiny about the type so much more money American politics is so much more moneyed I mean the amount of money that is used is spent in American completely eying I mean we have limits here thank God but also people earn about three times more two or at least we’re very interested in social class because we still always we still get excited about what the women politicians are wearing absolutely there you the 900 Amanda Wy tril ran on for weeks and all our shoes they were all 300 quid a pair there’s a balance between what Carol’s saying about dressing down in a kind of cynical way and wearing you know incredibly expensive clothes are going to make people like rub people’s nose in would you wear A500 hoodie if you could afford it well I’m very unhappily uh saying that I can’t afford it Andrew if I could and in the right in the right situation uh that and I want to dress up there’s no right situation j i gifts you a 500 of course you’re going to wear it I I wouldn’t wear necessarily A500 jacket if I thought it was going to get damaged anyway but I really don’t think it’s a very big story that Stan was wearing a jacket that he likes I think ultimately people should wear clothes they really like if they can afford slightly more expensive clothes they not do anyone any I just wish Rish would wear suits that fit those trousers are irritating half she SE that backpack on the train going to Corn that was cringe that’s not the same probably didn’t buy himself his wife um talking of class let’s look at what’s going on with the Taylor Swift concert Jonathan homeless people are being moved out of hotels are they to accommodate Taylor Swift concert goers yeah um there’s a shortage of hotel rooms in Edinburgh and so uh a lot of the the hotel rooms that would have been used by the council for short-term accommodation for the homeless uh have now been sort of uh you know given over to uh people coming for the the concert and so uh homeless people have been uh taken to I think um abedine and um glas so they’ve not been kicked out on the street they’ve just been taken to another there is a such an important conversation to to have about the way this country and councils treat homeless people and I think just the the the political point I oos is that what we saw during covid is that the people can sort out homelessness we can deal with homelessness when it becomes a national public health issue homeless people were taken off the streets and given housing it’s not a political priority and that’s why people are still on the streets but that’s a Scottish government’s fault what do you think by I think it’s the Scottish government’s fault I mean yeah you know they were always they always trying to blame everything that’s happening in Westminster but the Scottish government is devolved they have massive problems in the Health Service in housing and and homelessness in in drug taking their High drug capital of Europe um so yeah that’s that’s their fault but can we talk about um can we talk about these Junior doctors we just got a read a statement from FR from Scotland which comes from the council there it is right they say about kicking out the owners we use it reluctantly as a last resort we’re aware of the situation we’re working with the affected households to find appropriate alter accommodation pretty brutal but Taylor Swift is much more important yes thank you very much Taylor Swift I wouldn’t be surprised if she invites them all to the concert she’s got very good heard to Hest yeah Junior doctors now I find this story astonishing so they’ve called they’ve called a strike um just days before the election now I I spend a lot of time on television arguing with Junior doctors so always pretends they’re on the bone on the back side and they’re really not um you know in a third fourth year they’re on 65 Grand a year which is not bad however um they’ve called this Dragon they spend their whole life saying this is not political this is not smashing the Tories and this is the most cynically political move you can possibly imagine and star has will not condemn them he said I don’t want these strikes to go ahead that’s not the same as condemning them however don’t tell me there hasn’t been some collusion here between the labor party and the British Medical Association which is highly political they’re doing this on purpose and I and I just think you know this just they’re using patience as porns in their fight to hurt the Tories to get Smash them out of government all together this is vulnerable sick lot of them elderly people who who have been waiting for operations like cataracts cuz they’re going blind and and neops because they can’t walk and all of those operations are going to be shelv yet again a million cancelled appointments and operations because of these strikes it’s the most cynical V what I would what I would say is um it’s basically my my my opinion is conditional if there is a truth in what the health secretary says that she is unable to negotiate with the doctors During the purda period pre elction period they’re not going to write a check a week before the election them for God’s sake well the look if you if that’s true that the government is UN aable that it hands are tied then government stops government civil servic g into government doesn’t stop continues so there is there there is still a minister in every Department um but obviously civil service is not allowed to do overly political things obviously parli not but you are aware they’ve had a pay rise aren’t you you you’re aware that they’ve had a pay rise that for some is the equivalent to 88.1% and for others equivalent to 10 point something per. so they’ve had a pay rise which they took and They carried on strike well the the pay rise they had is not covering for the amount what about the point if if ministers hands are tied which I argue they are what’s the point of this stri well if if ministers hands are tied then I would argue you know that I would personally not advise them to strike because it’s because they’re not they physically if they’re physically unable to get what they want if however a minister is advised that they can negotiate during the p period Then I think we spoke to doctor just a moment ago eventually she admitted it is a political strike at the expense of every person whose Hospital appointment will be cancelled Andre all Andrew all strikes this is affecting people might die because of this strike I think that’s quite an inflammatory line that inflammatory when doctors withdraw their services people are put at risk no one no one withdraws emergency care people could die as result of the stri to look the how can Emergency Care Medical enough we’re now in an emergency Carol Jonathan thank you so much we’ve run out of time uh Tatiana Sanchez is waiting very patiently with your news at [Music] 11:33 Bev thank you the top stor sakir starma has launched labor election campaign in Wales promising to help struggling households with the cost of living the labor leader also pledged to fight for the future of Steel in Wales amid concerns over job losses up P Talbert steel Works he also listed the six pledges that labors making in its campaign including delivering on economic stability and cutting NHS waiting times sakir rejected suggestions that he’d been ambushed by an earlier than expected election saying that it’s time for change with that sense of national renewal taking our communities our countries forward for the F for the future and so I say to you if you’re a family that’s been struggling with the cost of living for a long time now and I mean struggling struggling across Wales struggling elsewhere if you’re a business that’s been absolutely up against it these past few years have youve been serving your country or serving your community then this election this election is for you meanwhile PL cry is launching its general election campaign at an event in Banger the party’s leader th upworth is there promising to keep the conservatives out of Wales and keep labor in check in other news two bodies have been found in the search for a father and son who went missing during a hiking trip in the Scottish Highlands Tom Perry who 49 and his 12-year-old son Richie failed to return to their Chesire home yesterday police inquiries are ongoing but the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious for the latest story sign up to GB news alerts by scanning the QR code on is at 8,22 points cheers britania wine club proudly sponsors the GB news financial report up at afternoon good afternoon Britain with Tom and Emily here they are what have you got on the show today guys well right top of the show at 12:00 we’re going to be hearing from Richard Ty and Nigel farage they have a new policy on immigration to announce uh so we’ll be taking that live also Mark White will be there on the scene to try and digest it all tell us where it all adds up what part of the country they in somewhere like DOA oh goodness me I don’t actually know in the southeast of very good question very good question very good answer you’re not supposed to show us up Andrew now it’s not just reform UK that we’ll be covering of course this growing Civil War within the labor party is the most extraordinary thing I think that many of us have seen when it comes to candidate selection now Jeremy Corbin was massively criticized from the labor rights for uh introducing what he wanted to call uh mandatory candidate reselection whereby every candidate had to be voted in again by their local party this this is very different this is taking the local party out of the situation and people are being hauled in in front of committees at the last possible minutes 5 Minutes to Midnight the day before dissolution and being told we found a tweet from you that’s what fisa Shaheen the labor candidate for chingford says but but isn’t isn’t the view staras people say this is all good actually we don’t care about the Civ because it shows starm as being tough and decisive what they want to say and that would be a good argument were it not for one Diane Abott I agree because what this has shown is it’s a botched assassination really is and La party thought and but clearly that hased and so what what would have been seen as a clean and sort of smooth operation a ruthless operation from a ruthless leader has actually turned a bit into that reshuffle that we saw back in 2021 when K sta tried to sack Angela Raina and ended up giving her six jobs instead I’ve done a piece of the MTO saying far than showing that he’s strong at a s it shows him as bumbling and incompetent cuz they’ve really messed this up with Diana but she’s people like me writing positive things about I me look at every front page abot de s tried to stop me I know and it show it shows that there is this this tension and this chaos at the top of the labor party and I wonder if some of K D’s inexperienced political advisers people have have been brought in from not particularly political elements of the world for example Sue gray she was a civil servant there’s been a lot of criticism in a lot of the press that she finds it hard to make a decision and could this sort of indecisiveness at the top of the labor Party play iils never make decisions to the general public though perhaps people will look fondly on this here’s a quick question is doing the right thing which political party do you think has the most followers on Tik Tok uh La party reform really there’s something for your press conference yeah reform have got 125,000 followers on Tik Tok and labor have got 108,000 Al Al I looked at yes I looked at analysis of the number of views that these parties were getting labor launched um their their Tik Tok account only a few months ago whereas reforms had it for more than a year and labor have launched a small number of videos but each one of them have got many many more views so tens of millions of views on these videos on but I must say on Tik Tok underneath every Labor uh video it’s vote reform vote reform vote reform they’re very very uh aggressive agressive on there yeah interesting right Emily and Tom we’ll be here from midday don’t go anywhere though you’ve got another 20 minutes with us [Music] this is GB news Britain’s News Channel so the UK’s most popular baby names have been revealed with Noah and Olivia again topping the annual list uh in at number two is Muhammad for boys list is on the screen here uh number three for boys is George uh then it goes Olivia then it’s Leo Arthur and so on and for girls so Olivia is number one then Amelia Isa Ava Lily Ivy Freya there we go any of those names take your pick where’s dor by the way well yeah there’s on the on the telegraph website right there’s a really good way linked into this where you can actually put your name into the search engine and the these are names from 2022 by the way um and it tells you how common your name was and I did put Dawn in it’s never been that popular can’t think why um and there were were only five babies named Dawn in 2022 really it’s not full confession here right my middle name Mom I hate you is Morin why is everyone laughing my middle name is Morin which is a good old fashioned East End name and that has completely died out there were no babies named Morin well it’s interesting isn’t it names like Keith for example Peter would you call a baby these days Keith or Ian baby Ian without a doubt I feel like I’m in a persecuted minority you see because wrong when I’m watching the boxing with Terry Steve Mick Phil and Kev right and and Peter there are no such names featuring in this list we are we are dying out our names will soon be gone forever and I feel victimized by it likewise I I should think we should start a campaign group and go on a protest March through London K what do you make about uh Muhammad being number two for boys names you know I’m not going to comment on people you know they’re going to call what they want to call um what I find interesting is people that do double barrel because they can’t decide on you know yeah a lot of people do that and that’s a bit difficult because I think you should just pick a name you know I tell you names are falling down the list though Harry and Megan we’re GB news and we come from a proud tradition of British journalism that’s why I’m so excited to be here it’s something so new the first news channel to be launched in Britain in over 30 years launched to represent the views of the British people to go where other broadcasters refused to go how did you find out about the story in the first place launched with one aim to be the Fearless champion of Britain it’s an absolutely fantastic atmosphere here this is GB news people’s CH GB news Britain’s News Channel GB news is the home of free speech we were created to Champion it and we deliver it day in Day Out free speech allows us all to explore and debate openly the issues most important to us our families and of course the British people having challenging conversations to Enlighten each other which is why we hear all sides of the argument we are the people Channel we will always stand by the freedom to express yourself on TV radio and online this is GB news Britain’s news [Music] channel five weeks to the election 35 days to go is that why I’m exhausted because I have to say this week has felt very long and it’s only been a 3-day week for us so far 35 days and they they used to take Sunday off they don’t anymore because there was with that view you have to respect the Sabbath uh so all all so it’s it’s 7day week we’ve got this and and and I would say actually the tor’s had a terrible start with oh wats his face singing in the rain outside number 10 with no Broly rishy off his trolley or Broly but I think they but labor have had a bad week I feel I feel like I need to apologize to the viewers and listeners the fact that we got five more wishes but I have to say I am quite enjoying it and I do hope you’re enjoying coverage because we were sort of Treading Water politically for such a long time weren’t we really the whole of this year waiting for this announcement yeah and and and he did and it did surprise us and um I mean if you remember when we were here last Wednesday it was beginning to break in the morning we thought yeah yeah but he did and Steven has said I’ve just caught you snacking sorry have you got a food trolley behind you well no it it was just across on it was wicked Matt in the gallery trying to humiliate me we get very hungry doing this job you know we like we we sit here it is our Thursday treat we have a cant courtesy of Miss Turner so that’s all very nice I buy the biscuits all week you’re all very and I get I get two a day if I’m lucky yeah um talking of looking silly and also talking about quasons because I’m sure you’ll have something to say about this Andrew is there Davey here we go again uh he’s going to he was at a water slide park water slides coming down the water slide in his bright yellow inflatable see what I mean right it looks like he’s weighing himself that’s what you been on a water have you ever been on a water slide Andrew no and I’m never going on one girl I would pay good money to see you come down water slide Happ oh please let’s do a let’s an outside broadcast is he going to do a gimmick a day I hope so because I have to say I for one I’m really enjoying Ed DAV I wonder if we can find the clip of him cycling down the hill and then he starts using his legs like he was on a windmill it’s not a very elegant look it’s you know what he knows that liberal Democrats were not going to get talked about in this election campaign labor conservative and actually quite a bit of reform because they’re not in the debate either because it’s only two people can be prime minister at the next election after election it’s sunak or starm so why would you have to lip Dems in the debate so he’s doing what he can only do which is to say we know we’re a bit of a joke as a party we know we’ve slipped down your radar so I’m going to slip down a few slides and hopefully get back on the talking point and it’s working is in the papers we’re discussing it we’re finding it very entertaining yeah will it translate to votes I think it probably will yeah well the poll I mean also the polls pretty much haven’t changed one poll cut the T Le labor Le from 15 to 12 but most polls still put labor about 20 points ahead which means they’re heading for a very big majority Lauren say we love and be oh here we go now here’s a Davy’s gimmick yesterday look at him on what’s he doing that for if you’re listening on the radio he’s flapping his legs like he’s on a windmill he’s becoming like a character out of Benny Hill yeah look at that if you’re old enough to remember Benny Hill I wouldn’t for sry say but if he’d fallen off his bike it would have been a hoot he’s got his helmet on don’t give him ideas I can promise you he will and cyclists are a menace and he’s proving what a menace he is would he can’t control a bike how can he control the Eon economy I think it’s I think it’s great I’m really enjoying the liberal Democrat contribution to this um election whether it makes you listen to what they have to say that’s up to you isn’t it what can you say gs.com for/ your say right still to come a stark warning has been issued to pensioners after almost 29 million was lost in Courier fraud fraud last year we’re going to be joined in a minute by an ex police officer who specializes in keeping people safe online we’ll explain all in just a moment don’t go anywhere this is brin’s [Music] Newsroom hi there and welcome to the latest forecast from the Met Office for GB news a lot of cloud today with some heavy showers around but also some brighter spells particularly towards the North and Northwest higher pressure is building in but it’s taking its time low pressure still with us that’s carrying a couple of weather fronts into Eastern parts of the UK so some longer Spells Of Rain there from tside down towards Norfolk a lot of cloud as well had a cool breeze from the North Sea otherwise it’s a mix of bright spells and showers the heaviest downpours with some Thunder and hail likely from the Midlands down towards the southeast where we do get some brighter spells though it’s going to feel a bit more pleasant and a drier day for the North and Northwest compared with Wednesday however the focus for the heavy downpours will be across the South and Southeast particularly through Central Southern England into Southeast and East angia and also through the Midlands but for Wales for Northern England for Scotland and Northern Ireland well there will be some Sunny spells in between the showers and although a cool breeze is blowing from the north northwest it’s going to feel Pleasant where we do get some of those Sunny spells coming through now into the evening we’re going to see increasingly those showers disappear clear spells breaking out widely particularly towards the West although there will be some Cloud remaining in the East and some outbreaks of rain running down the North Sea Coast where we got the cloud temperatures staying in the double figures where we’ve got the clear spells especially for Western Scotland Northern Ireland temperatures dipping into the mid single figures so we start off Friday with a lot of cloud in the East and Central part of England some outbreaks of rain turning to showers by the afternoon again some heavy downpours for East Anglia in the Southeast but a much drier day elsewhere and plenty of sunshine for Scotland Northern Island West Wales and the Southwest where we’ve got the sunshine feeling very pleasant indeed with temperatures News [Music] Channel you’re with Britain’s Newsroom on GB news with Andrew Pierce and B Turner Lots you’ve been getting in touch you have and also we just seen what it’s a breaking new story about the Royals you don’t think it’s particularly exciting no but tell us what you really think this is about the prince and princess of Wales have to decide whether George Charlotte and Louie go to the trooping of the color in June why is that not a big an exciting story Andrew Pierce why would those children want to be put through that look it’s a lovely important occasion and it celebrates the Monarch’s official birthday um and what’s more interesting is will the king be there because of his health he must he’ll be there he’s all right about yeah um ordinarily he would be horseback because the queen used to do it horseback but um and of course they’re rehearsing for it today too um but whether the children are there is it interesting what is is Kate’s going to be there I don’t think the Princess of Wales will be there not in June but it would be really nice to see children to see we would love to see the children you can hear all about this actually on GB news’s Royal podcast the Royal record uh with camon Walker and digital Royal editor far far Nan and Sen who are there discussing uh this particular story on the JB News podcast if you want to listen to that right let’s see what you you think they’ll go I think they will I think if the royal family have got any sense they will do what the royal family is meant to do for the British public which is to come out from time to time and be the you know I I don’t mean this in a derogatory but to be the little people in the dolls house that we like to play with that’s the role that they serve to the British also it’s quite it’s a spectacle and for little ones quite a spectacle because of the horses the military uniforms they would probably enjoy it they probably would enjoy it yes they probably would enjoy it right hang on a minute I’ve lost my gs.com yoursay I hope you’ve got this at home everybody um because we love seeing your messages as they come in on this message site as well there we go you can also talk to each other if you aren’t using this you can use it on your phone you don’t have to be sat at your uh computer or your laptop like this um I’m just loading up the comments now here we go uh Michael says starm and Co must have been drinking T’s water uh this morning um and Paul has said before you put your cross in the Box just for my sanity think about each individual you are voting for in the labor cabinet and then imagine some of them representing Britain on the world stage I have is a mixture of some others doav and Benny Hill um yeah well and R will be our Deputy Prime Minister and Ry who was begging in that uh video clip the other day those Muslim men to to support her and they weren’t even the body language was terrible because she’s worried about the position on palestin and this unedifying and this is why I think starma uh sunak has made a lot of the safety of the world at the moment because I think people do feel that if we are edging closer to war we might prefer the conservatives than angelaa going up against yeah absolutely now I know it’s going to be a big factor in this in the program coming little later but isn’t Nel far going to make a major speech it is and it’s very very difficult to understand who’s the leader of Reform UK right now there seems to be n ofage well do you remember the sdp liberal Alliance where you had um sort of a double header of two Davids trying and and a lot of fighting over sort of who would be the official leader of the opposition were they to be breaking through in that 1983 election it almost feels like that sort of double-headed is going on with reform UK CU Ty Rich Tyson leader and he’s standing for parliament in Harley poool Night no not in Harley poool he stood in Harley pool last time and he was going to stand in Harley pool and now he’s going to stand in Boston and SK and I asked him about that and he said it wasn’t true that he was jumping ship constituency did he did I think that’s public knowledge though but you’ve heard it from the horse’s mouth quite literally yeah are you sure that wasn’t before he then announced he was going to do it it was only about a week ago that this was confirmed well hopefully we’ll find out today it would be nice to know where he’s actually standing as a candidate but isn’t this a perfect scenario really Nigel farage doing all this media getting all the exposure on BBC question time tonight that panel show he’s Nigel’s on question time tonight is he yeah alongside Piers Morgan it’s going to be quite the way but but but but honestly I do think there is a bit of tension at the top of Reform UK over this Isabelle Oak shot a close and personal friend of Richard Ty has been saying Richard Ty is the leader not Nigel farage on Twitter and I think that sometimes there might be a bit of tension where does that leave the wonderful who is the household name Nigel farage oh all that’s come from 12:00 we are done for the day you to need to hot foot it over there see you see you next week looks like things are heating up boxed boilers sponsors of weather on GB news good morning welcome to your GB news weather update from the Met Office it’s a case of Sunny spells and showers today but it is going to be breey giving a cooler feel for some of us so through this morning we’ve got a band of rain across parts of Northern Wales into the Midlands and the southeast that’s gradually going to sink its way southwards it’s going to break up through the morning and that will leave a case of Sunny spells but also some heavy showers breaking out some of these could be on the thundery side as well showers still persisting across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland but they’re going to be lighter here than what we saw on Wednesday otherwise highs of up to 18 or 19° but a Brisk wind coming in from the North so exposed to that it will feel quite chilly as we go through this evening we’ve got showers continuing across the southeast of England again still heavy at times through this evening they’re going to be slowly moving their way southwards further towards the West some late Sunny spells and across Northern Ireland still a few showers persisting and for parts of Scotland as well mixed in with some late sunshine as well but we have still got that brisk wind coming in from the north so as we go through Thursday evening and into the overnight period any showers should gradually continue to sink their way Southward breaking up and fading away that will leave plenty of areas with some clear Spells at times but we are still going to hold on to quite a lot of cloud especially across parts of Northeastern England into the southeast with some patchy rain here otherwise towns and cities holding up at around 10 or 11° but under the clear skies temperatures falling into the single figures so mix start on Friday morning plent plent of dry weather around especially further west that you are but across Eastern Parts especially across parts of Yorkshire and down into East anger in the Southeast cloudier conditions here with some outbreaks of generally light rain but best of the brightness is going to be focused across the West chilly in the East but further towards the West that’s where we’ll see highs of 18 or 19° that warm feeling inside from box boilers sponsors of weather on GB news you really could be our next big 1. Is it just the junior medical doctors striking or all the junior doctors across all the relevant academic fields? They don’t seem to differentiate. I have a good differential analysis concept.

  2. Ed Davy is certainly drawing attention to the Lib Dem Party in a splashy, and fun, way. I have been thinking about the Lib Dems, and Reform, and some Green players having an open field in which to make hay. The major parties are out of favor. He's not making a fool of himself; he is showing he has wit. I thought Bev had the right reaction. Glad she caught the water aspect. I take it the Lib Dems focus on issues that are not about unions and labor but are working class issues. I bet it is receiving good response. In other words he is marketing the party, not shamefully, and voters will remember it with a smile.
