THE whole country will be hoping the Scotland National Team will have a pleasurable experience when they head for Wank.

If ever there was a place for the players to enjoy some me-time in peace and quiet, it’s in this little corner of Germany.

Steve Clarke and his side will actually be based in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a 30,000 population resort town at the base of Mount Wank.

we’re about to get the cable car up to the top of van but before that we’re going to beet a fellow Scotsman Andrew Sim who is one of the restaurant managers here at the van strouble which is a nice place to have some food and drink before you go up to the top of the mountain and once we get there we’re going to meet the most important person in the whole of garage Park and Kirin and that is Elizabeth Cook who is the first mayor most important mayor in the entire town and she’s going to tell us all about what to expect when the Scotland national team come here to have her base at hotel obber Mula and also what the Scotland fans can expect in terms of some activities and special things happening just for the team coming ahead of the game against Germany so I’m here with Andrew sim a fellow Scotsman who has been here now 35 years I think you said that’s right yeah um so you’re in charge of some of the places where people can eat when they want to go up to see van um and use a cable car system with Van ban that’s correct uh so yeah I mean how do you find it here it’s obviously beautiful scenery really nice place and and somewhere it looks like the Scotland national team and hopefully a lot of Scotland fans will enjoy visiting well hopefully yeah Gage is a wonderful place um like I said I’ve been here a long time um it’s become my home really now um I love the the mountains there’s so much to do uh if you like outdoor stuff mountain biking skiing running um people are nice and it’s just got that nice little of feel about it it’s not too big uh not too small there’s always something happening and uh yeah of course we’re really excited about uh the got his team coming here I mean what an honor um I me I heard that I heard the rumors in November and I thought no I’m not going to get too excited it’s probably just going to fall through um but then um when it was official um my son and I were were both very very excited about them coming here yeah and you were saying that despite you being obviously Scottish your wife being Austrian and your children being born in Germany were still very much Scotland fans so I guess he’ll be roting for Scotland against Germany in the first match definitely definitely because I think I think Germany will go through any anyway yeah but we need the points and I think this is going to be our tournament I think we’re going to we’re going to get through to the next stage um and I think if you’re going to face Germany the first game is probably the one to do it there’s a lot of pressure on the German team um I Reon we got a good chance yeah oh that’s cool and with the fans coming as well I mean we’re assuming there will be a number of Scotland fans that want to go exactly where the team are going to be based and things so I know you said there’s going to be some special events taking place I was told in in the middle of the square there’s going to be a big screen show the Scotland match against Germany that’s right so hopefully you’ll get a fair few Scotland fans coming through your doors well I hope so I mean I can’t walk through the town now without being you know uh asked by the locals how many are coming and what they’re going to be like and uh um I hope that Lots will come it’s a beautiful place it’s worth a visit it’s only an hour away from Munich uh so you could use this as a base to go and watch the games um and yeah in the town there’s going to be a lot going on not just a big screen um I’m sure the mayor will tell us more about it later but I think there’s sort of like a fan miles going to be with different you knows ands and so so I think G should be well prepared for the SCS yeah I was saying to people earlier but we just have to make sure people from Scotland pronounce the mountain correctly and pronounce all the places correctly because I guess people here never really think of it very much but people in Scotland think it’s a bad word sometimes that’s right I mean when I came here when I was 18 my friend and I had a real a real chuckle about that I must admit and there’s a you know not just the mountain but there’s a a bank house and a Bank Street and so you know um it takes a bit of getting used to but um they pronounce it van with a V not a w yeah Scotland fans should learn that before they come yeah probably good idea yeah no that’s brilliant and do you have any predictions for the first game then between Scotland and Germany do you think Scotland have have a chance um I think we got a chance um I think it’s a a bit worrying that the German team is coming into form now when you see the way the players the German players played in the Champions League uh over the last two days um I think it would be a diff one for us but a draw a draw would be a great result and then uh you know another couple of wins or a draw against the other teams and then we through perfect thanks a lot Andre so we’re here at the top of Van which is for most people in Scotland probably the most unfortunately named mountain in the planet however it’s also a great experience for those coming to the top of it right now we’re almost 6,000 ft in the air and we’re outside the V house which is a nice little bar that people can enjoy a paint when they come to the top of the mountain and behind me here is the van ban which is the cable car system where people come up takes around 15 minutes and you can get right to the very top some stunning views some really nice walks for people to enjoy and it’s very very good for food and drink too so if Scotland fans do decide to follow Steve Clark’s boys to the hotel over M which is uh also in gy park in K it’s somewhere to come along enjoy and maybe get a little bit of experience with a pain I’m with the mayor of garish Park K uh first mayor first mayor yes Elizabeth Cook we also have a second mayor oh okay a female second mayor but you’re the most important no we we both are yeah we are a team yeah and we were just chatting about how the Scotland national team are coming here um which I know is very exciting for you to have a base camp for one of the teams at Euro 2024 you guys are preparing some really cool things for it yes of course because um when we decided to to be a a team base camp my wish was the Scottish national team Scotland or Wales and when uh the decision was uh manifested the Scots are coming we run uh forward and we want to make uh the Scots who are coming to us a beautiful event here in Gish P King the the team especially and of course course the fans and the tourists also yeah and you mentioned already you’re going to have a big screen showing the game you’re going to have a fan mail oh you’re you’re doing a lot we’re doing a lot yes um the team will arrive at the 9th of June and there where our we have here you see our town here downhill and we have two um bands okay traditional bands and they will play together for a very warm world of the team and we will go to to a special place in the town downtown and we will um offer some special beer uh from our browery and music everything you can imagine yeah well hopefully a lots of Scotland fans will come and they Scotland fans love beer so I’m sure we’ll be home we love whiskey I mean I don’t drink any uh beer or yeah or whiskey but uh we have some specials uh prepared for the Scots yeah so you’ll be hoping lots of fans come and visit yes of course yeah and this is one of the places they can come obviously they can come up to the top of the zuk splits they can come up to vank yeah um and we already said obviously we pronounce that differently in Scotland so we better make sure we say it correctly when we’re here yes when they’re coming with here is the egg power there’s a cable car up there here is the CC uh one uh here you can see the peak of the Tuk pitz that’s top of Germany 2,962 M on top of the world yeah we have a beautiful nature here as you have in Scotland to have been there yeah so I know you said that you are excited for the first game between Scotland and Germany do you have a side you’re wrting for or any particular team you hope wins I’m two hearts of beating my you can imagine as of but the best team should win yeah the very best team and I wish them all the best both teams yeah especially of course Scotland because the the head coach told me I asked him when we met a few months ago what what what are you expecting and he told me we will win of course I wish them the very best well we didn’t know that that gives us hope yeah okay Steve Steve Clark promising you 2024 told me the Scots will win that’s okay for me a great than thank you so much Elizabeth okay it was a pleasure we’re here at the heart of garage Pon kir and we are outside the dram shop where a very interesting fellow named Alexander Rene owns the only whiskey and Jin shop in the whole town he’s very passionate about Scotland absolutely loves the place and we’re about to find out some more by popping in and trying some Bavarian whiskey as well which Scotland fans maybe not the Scotland team will be able to enjoy when they visit for preparations to Euro 2 2024 you the owner of the dram and gin shop the only one I believe in the town um but I also know you’re very passionate about Scotland and you even have some special projects and the run up to Euro 2024 so can you tell us a bit about your crossover Scottish German bottling yeah well we have uh a CK which has been bottled about uh two weeks ago at The araman Distillery the west coast and uh Distillery I really like or love it and I know the people behind it and uh with a very special label on it for this special OCC uh occasion in Munich on June 14th yeah so it’s on the way and uh another one is uh we have a perfect tasting on June 13th uh right here in a pup just around the corner uh hosted by an amican Distillery Conor McKenzie and Gordon Hamilton will come here especially for the tasting okay they will also enjoy the the game in Munich on Friday um but they host this tasting here with six spot Lings from under American Distillery and I’m very much looking forward to all the Scots coming here yeah I mean I guess you get some Scots quite often anyway but hopefully even more from the fans who might be following the team to to garage Pon kir yeah yeah I hope so I hope so sometimes I have people from scorland uh but uh sometimes uh mostly from the central belt and and uh this is uh but last no two years ago I think the former Stillman of the F distiller he looked at said do you have F he sure I have so I the Steelman I was the Steelman and uh well it’s uh it’s very funny I like the the people from Scotland coming here buying their whiskey and do you like um Scottish whiskey so much that you’ll be rooting for Scotland over Germany in in The Opening match no I love in general I love Scotland and the whiskey and all together the history tradition the landscape the people the food uh I have my favorite restaurants all over Scotland and in traveling Scotland for 30 years I found a lot and I love this country that’s Brant yeah so I’m here today with John Gurley at hotel rer shof which hopefully pronouncing okay so I know you’re originally from Mary Hill yes but you’ve now been here over 40 OD years 43 now fantastic and this is the first time you’ve had anything like the Scotland team Army descending on the biggest event I think I’ve ever lived here experienced and it’s lots of expectations yeah yeah and do you follow the national team from here anyway you just to watch time yeah the biggest success was when we beat Spain with having a Spanish wife that was a highlight yeah well that’s interesting thing you said you’ve got a Spanish wife yeah and you yourself Scottish and Germany your son can speak with three different languages yeah who does he support when Scotland Spain or Germany okay Scotland he sticks with his dad yeah he’s got no choice yeah
