The big day is nearly here! This Sunday a not particularly fit 63 year old is going to do the London to Brighton bike ride in aid of the British Heart Foundation. I’m doing it in remembrance of my sister Janet who died in September 2022, leaving a huge hole in our family. The back story to this explained on the Just Giving page – link above.

Now I’m not entirely silly. I’ve been putting in the miles on my bike to prepare for the challenge. This film is a quick recap of how I got to this point, and a final push for donations. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your support!

it’s finally here this Sunday I’ll be joining many other people doing the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton bike ride last year my daughter Alice and her partner Nathan did the ride in the pouring rain I’m naate did it in remembrance of his dad and Alice in remembrance of Auntie Janet Janet was my sister she was funny warm slightly Bonkers and played the batty Aunt card brilliantly she loved her family very much but in September 2022 completely out of the blue she was taken from us by a massive brain hemorrhage however something good did come out of it she became an organ donor and there are people out there who have been given a Second Chance which is something that brought us great comfort in the months after she died I decided to do the race this year partly to prove I could and partly to raise funds for Janet’s charity I’ve been putting in some practice miles as I fully intend getting across the Finish Line it’s been a mixture of shorter local rides and some longer 30 plus mile Journeys my short rides have been mostly a quick Jaun around Hall’s Bay one of my favorite longer rides is the caran trail from brockenhurst to home through the New Forest 30 plus miles mainly on a disused railway line I’ve also been exploring various routes around pool Harbor and my current favorite is the ride to Kingston in the aisle of peric and back it’s a difficult climb up Kingston Hill rewarded by a p in the Scot arms at the top looking down on Cor Castle so I think I’ve earned this cheers I even joined a Cycling group and on the first outing managed to get lost by following a different Cycling group who are going in completely the opposite direction thanks to all of the training I’ve lost some weight I’ve dropped a trouser size in our corporate workware and I’ve even taken to wearing braces to hold them up there have been complaints my workmates and family take great Delight in pinging them constantly bless after having a period of regular riding we went on a cruise around the Norwegian fiords we had superb weather and a great time then I came down with covid the holiday and getting the dreaded lurgy meant I didn’t get out on the bike for three weeks so all of the weight I’d lost got put back on but I’ve been a good boy since and I’m now back to Serious training the latest news is that I’ve got myself some new Wheels I’ve been riding cheap bikes from Facebook Marketplace in need of attention so I decided to get myself a nice shiny new bike that’s the right size for me and not falling to bits so if you have memories of Janet or you’d like to support me there’s still time to donate by clicking the just giving Link in the comments section below after the ride I put together a film about how I got on on the big day thanks for your support and see you on the other side

    1. Good luck David, you will be carried along by the spirit of the event and it’s only 54 miles (approx) so not so bad. Your training looks perfect, there are some hills but nothing too bad and nothing to rival Worth Matravers, just make sure you have a Granny gear available for Ditchling Beacon. It’s a fantastic event, if a little crowded, but it will leave you on a high. The very best of luck and enjoy. Great to see you back again. By the way I’m envious of your cruise jacket… very cool!🙂
