Hello everyone, welcome to the breaking news today. Russia’s Mad Max-style war bikes were already pretty weird. Now they’re getting weirder and more vulnerable. A video shot by a Ukrainian drone unit apparently this week depicts one of the Russian military’s up-armored assault motorcycles wearing crude camouflage around its welded-on anti-drone cage armor. It wasn’t quite the two-wheeled equivalent of Russia’s awkward metal-encased turtle tanks.

[Music] [Music] hello everyone welcome to the breaking news today Russia’s Mad Max style war bikes were already pretty weird now they’re getting weirder and more vulnerable a video shot by Ukrainian drone unit apparently this week depicts one of the Russian militar up armed assault motorcycles wearing crude camouflage around its welded on anti-d drone cage armor it wasn’t quite the two wield equivalent of Russia’s awkward metal encased turtle [Music] tanks however it was close and it almost certainly suffered all the same drawbacks as the turtle tanks poor mobility and visibility once the Ukrainian drone spotted the boxy camouflaged bik blly motoring along a dirt’s road in broad daylight somewhere along the 700 mile front line of Russia’s 28mon wider war on Ukraine the outcome was all but certain an explosive firstperson view drone from the Ukrainian apak fpv strike group chased down the bike and blew it up it’s possible the rider or Riders never saw the Drone coming it’s hard enough to see through the bulky metal cages Russian crews are welding onto more of the war bikes in a desperate effort to protect them from fpv drones it’s probably even harder when those cages are wrapped in camouflage after losing around 15,000 omed vehicles in Ukraine the Russian military got desperate for transportation and began buying up inexpensive Chinese golf carts as well as Chinese and Belarusian dirt [Music] bikes soldiers have ridden on lightweight four-wheel vehicles and even lighter two- wheeled Vehicles since at least World War I but they rarely rode those flimsy Vehicles into direct combat instead keeping them well behind the front line for support duties several armies experimented with AER assault motorcycles during and right after World War I but found them unwieldy lacking the speed and maneuverability of an unarmed motorcycle and also lacking the protection of a bigger wheeled or tracked vehicle the armored bikes occupied an unhappy Middle Ground nevertheless during World War I the German Army equipped a few troops with motorcycles and ordered them to attack Alli positions as a real world test of a bad idea the results were pretty tragic according to NS quo needless to say the idea of deploying motorcycles for direct combat was abandoned a 100 years later the increasingly vehicle starved Russian military revived the idea but only because it had few two other choices the idea was for bike troops to speed up to Ukrainian lines faster than the ukrainians could react once within Small Arms range the bik troops would Dismount and fight on [Music] foot in practice the bikes were neither small enough to avoid detection by Ukrainian surveillance drones nor fast enough to dodge strikes by explosive fpv drones when Russian motorcyclists attack positions held by the Ukrainian 7 9th their assault Brigade early last month the Russians were beaten in the teeth by drones the Brigade claimed a few weeks after the first bike troops rode into battle some of the survivors began installing anti-d drone cages on their bikes essentially copying the practice that transforms some of Russ’s tanks into uped turtle tanks the problem of course is that a 40ton tank with a 1,000 horsepower engine can handle addon armor much better than a 200 lb 100 horsepower dirt bike can this is a lesson the Danish Army learned after World War I when it ran Trials of the fp3 armored bike the high mass of the vehicle made steering difficult tanks encyclopedia noted CrossCountry Mobility was minimal their Russians appear to be compounding their error by adding camouflage to some bikes gay jamama impeding the Riders visibility as well as their their Mobility worse the camo is badly designed traditionally good camo featured designs of a regular colored shapes that made it difficult to determine the outline and form of the camouflaged objects according to the Imperial War Museum but the single color camo on the Russian war bikes struck by the aacf PV strike group hit actually highlighted the square shape of the bike’s cage armor causing the bike to stand out on the landscape rather than [Music] blending the apaki fpv strike group was unimpressed the first barn on two wheels in our Direction the group mused on social media punctuating its post with an explosion Emoji Ukraine attack drones have become a critical component in the ongoing conflict inflicting devastating casualties on Russian forces according to Front Line medics these drones are responsible for approximately 90% of the injuries sustained by Russian soldiers near the Strategic town of Chas ofor over the past 6 months this figure underscores the growing lethality and strategic significance of drone Warfare in the region the dominance of drone Warfare in the detet SC list particularly around the embattled area of bmot was highlighted by Kev based journalist Asami terajima first person view fpv drones which allow operators to Pilot the drones as if they were on board have reportedly caused the majority of injuries to Russian soldiers in the vicinity of Chas OFA the same type of warfare has been prevalent around other key towns where Russian troops have made steady progress terajima explained the situation stating in Ian IFI everything is destroyed and there’s nowhere to hide you can’t build a trench because there’s the concrete underneath that prevents you from digging further [Music] the use of Glide bombs another form of aerial Weaponry has been particularly overwhelming for Russian forces in the ofd of keria these bombs which are essentially powerful bombs retrofitted with modified fins and guidance systems can be launched from fighter planes from a distance and are notoriously difficult to intercept Ukrainian forces have notably increased their use of Glide bombs in sooba in line with their offensive against of DVA causing immense strain on Russian troops and their morale however the situation is not entirely one-sided Ukrainian air defenses have had some success in countering these aerial threats shooting down a significant number of drones and some Russian missiles according to Ukrainian military officials their air defense units and mobile drone Hunter groups recently neutralized nine out of 13 Russian drones over 4 regions of the country this demonstrates Ukraine’s resilience and capability to defend against such [Music] attacks despite the ongoing battles there have been policy changes among NATO members that could provide Ukraine with new Battlefield options these changes could allow Ukrainian forces to use Western provided systems to strike military targets within Russian border areas and airspace potentially altering the Dynamics of the conflict both Ukraine and Russia have sustained heavy losses throughout the conflict official figures from either side are often contested and rarely released in detail making it difficult to ascertain the full extent of the casualties nevertheless the numbers that are available paint a grim picture of the cost of war with reports of thousands of soldiers lost on both sides [Music]
