The Tarka Trail is a series of footpaths and cyclepaths (rail trails) around north Devon, England that follow the route taken by the fictional Tarka the Otter in the book of that name. It covers a total of 180 miles (290 km) in a figure-of-eight route, centred on Barnstaple.

The 31-mile (50 km) section between Braunton and Meeth is car-free, level and mostly tarmacked, and is shared by pedestrians and cyclists, with horseriding also permitted on part of it.[1]

The remainder of the route covers a wide variety of landscapes, including wooded river valleys, moorland, coastal cliffs and sandy beaches. Walking varies between easy through to moderate and strenuous, depending on the location, but, in general, it is comprehensively waymarked.

The trails are a popular tourist destination and bicycle hire businesses are available for those who wish to cycle along suitable sections of the trail. A section of the Trail is part of National Cycle Network route number 27 and forms part of the route known as the Devon Coast to Coast Cycle Route a route of 99 miles (159 km)[2] from Ilfracombe to Plymouth largely using former railway lines.

    1. Haha, what on earth was that, it did looked great fun mind but I had my eyes covered when I saw that bike coming behind you lol. What a mare with the bike wheel coming off and then a storm to cap it all, you could not make it up and gone are those long, hot sunny days over in France. I cannot remember a wetter start to the year than this one, take care, cheers Alan

    2. As always this is a well made video of you. It's very beautiful there. I really enjoyed watching. Many greetings 😀

    3. That was fun to watch Debs. The little dog was cute. Loved the big mean storm clouds in the dky. Phil managed to get some good shots of you going along. Trying to hold a selfie stick out in front of you on a bike isnt easy. Ive tried it myself & i was very wobbly like you were. The Tarka Trail looks very similar to the Camel Train from Padstow to Wadebridge in North Cornwall. Very scenic. 😊😊

    4. Such a wonderful place with amazing landscape 🌳 and great riding trails. 🚴🏼‍♀️ Sorry about your bike wheel and storm coming. ☁️ Great share. 😊❤️✨

Hopefully next time will be more of a success once puppy gets use to it 🤞. Thanks for making us smile Debs 😊
