14 years ago over this weekend 50-year-old Alan wood a well-known and well-liked man within his small community would become the victim of one of the most horrific and brutal murders that Lincolnshire has ever seen hello lovelies I’m True Crime Caitlyn and welcome back to my channel and another True Crime case thank you so much for being here with me if you’re interested in True Crime before continuing to listen please check the description box below for my disclaimer and for any content warnings today we’re going to be discussing another unsolved case that shook linked to police to their core a case that they still consider one of their most serious and disturbing unsolved crimes and one that they are desperate to solve I hope that with today’s video it can reach the right person or people who can help Poli solve this case I’m trr Caitlyn and this is the murder of Alan wood Alan was the oldest of three children from his parents Jim and marinwood he had two little sisters named Janice and Sylvia and the family all lived together in kby Lincolnshire they were a very normal happy family who enjoyed each other’s company by all accounts Alan had very regular early upbringing When Alan left secondary school he began working in a shop in nearby born called Warner’s printers and he generally enjoyed it here he worked there for a good few years fixing and selling printers up until he was made redundant after his redundancy Alan decided that he fancied a change he wanted to switch it up a little bit something that he really enjoyed doing was gardening so he decided he wanted to change career paths and go down the road doing something that he loved he had a couple of jobs in different nurseries and different Gardens over the years and he loved it he loved what he was doing so much so that he decided to make the Le and set up his very own gardening business Allan had the brains and the determination to do really really well so he just went for it as well as gardening Alan was very into photography and he was actually a really good photographer as well he would take all the pictures for his friends’s wedd and special occasions but he liked to use old cameras he wasn’t about the new Flash and techy ones he was very old fashioned in that sense as well as photography Alan also really liked cars and motorbikes he owned a black Triumph Speed Triple sorry that’s a tongue twister Triumph Speed Triple and he also drove a red a Type Jaguar car and he loved them when he was 27 Alan met a woman named Joan and the pair totally hit off Joan fell for ellan who had the softest Kindest Heart and in 1992 after 6 years of dating they got married after 11 happy years they did end up separating and Alan was gutted there was no animosity or bad blood there was no big messy toxic breakup I do just think that the couple sadly grew apart and that is something that happens they still really cared for each other they were still friends and kept in touch and would still actually tend to Joan’s Garden up until she up and moved to Petra Alan was now living alone in a bungalow on edenham Road in L which was a small Hamlet right next to Bourne L was a very Serene place at the time that Alan lived there there was only about 40 noal houses so everyone knew everyone everyone got along there was virtually never any trouble or any bother there and it was described as the type of place that even locals didn’t know about in 2006 Alan picked up a job at the born saintsbury store just to help top up his wage a little bit his gardening business was still doing really well but when it got colder and when the winter months came his work would slow down a little bit so he picked up this job just to help keep his wage topped up and help him continue to get by Allan would mainly work the night shift and he enjoyed it he was a really really hard worker he and his colleagues all got along they all Bond Ed probably over how tired they were because they are night shift workers and they just jelled really well they considered each other like a little family when he wasn’t working Alan liked to spend time in the Willoughby arms Pub which was in the next Village over and this is where his social life kind of centered around he would go in he’d sit on the same seat at the end of the bar he’d order his usual a pint and a packet of mini Cheddars and when he sat there with a newspaper that’s him said he’s happy as Larry he was a regular so because of that he was friends with all of the other regulars and he would make friends with anyone and everyone really he was really chatty he was funny he was nice so all of that made him a very popular man a woman named Sue who worked behind the bar she was a bar maid she would describe Alan as a big cuddly teddy bear if the pub was really busy if they had like a be a festival on or if they were horsed at an event or if it was just very busy in general Alan wouldn’t hesitate jumping behind the bar pulling a pint and helping out the 21st of October 2009 was a normal average day Alan popped into Morrison’s picking up a couple of bits and some shopping before heading to the Willoughby arms for a quick pint before heading home he left the Willoughby arms at about 6:30 p.m. and that would be the last time he was seen Alive by anyone other than his killer 3 days later on the 24th of October one of Alan’s friends arrived at his Bungalow he had been airwall from work awall means absence without leave and they couldn’t get in touch with him so this friend decided that she was just going to pop over check in on him and make sure that he was okay she arrived to The Bungalow on edenham road and found that Alan’s doors were either open or slightly a jar she popped ahead into the Bungalow and called out for Alan but was met with silence an uneasy Eerie failin washed over this woman so she walked over to the house next door to get some help the person who lived in this house or Bungalow was one of Alan’s other friends but it was also Alan’s landlord so together they walked back over to Alan’s Bungalow and stepped inside it was in the living room of his own home that they found the body of their friend 50-year-old Alan wood was deceased bound and and lay in a pool of his own blood police promptly arrived to The Bungalow where they began investigating it was evident that Alan had not only been the victim of a vicious murder but he had been sadistically tortured he had multiple stab wounds all over his body predominantly to his head and he had even been stabbed in his eyes it’s believed that Alan did try to fight off his attacker he did try to fend for himself self although it was never explicitly said anywhere that led me to believe that some of his wounds were possibly self-defense wounds after his attacker or attackers overpowered him Alan was then bound with 11 M of cellot tape and then from behind he had his throat slit which would be his fatal injury Alan lay on his Liv room floor in complete horror as he bled to death a wound was also found on the back of Alan’s neck which indicated that his murderer had made an attempt to decapitate him on a crime watch episode that was later aired one of the late investigators of the case described Allan’s injuries and this is what he said the full details of what Alan suffered are far too disturbing to document but we know Alan was tortured mutilated and had his throat cut when investigating the crime scene there was so much evidence blood was found that did belong to Alan so it’s assumed that the attacker had injured themselves while they were in the process of murdering Allan and left some of their own blood behind a full male DNA profile was extracted from this it was entered into the National Database however there was no matches meaning that Allan’s killer had either never committed a crime prior to this vicious torturous murder or they hadn’t been caught the cellot tape that was used to bind Alan had Little Bits of Paper either stuck or embedded into it and when this paper was analyzed it was found to have come from a bus ticket from one of the local bus companies Footprints were found at the scene where the SS match these two type of Converse trainers and I believe at the time that these two types of trainers were only sold in the UK and Europe the footprints found were also a size eight it was found that Alan’s bank card had been stolen so police immediately got to work trying to trace it down to see if there was any activity on the card and there was there was quite a lot the day after Alan was last seen leaving the Willoughby arms Pub his card was being used in like hul in the wall at a saintsbury store I don’t know if it was the same sains spr where Alan worked or if it was a different one but this card has been used on the 22nd Alan was last seen on the 21st and he wasn’t found until the 24th a woman who later came to to police told them that she had seen two men around this Hall in the wall and the time that she gave police pretty much perfectly match the time that Alan’s card was being used she was able to give police a description of one of the men who she seemingly got a pretty good look at and with that description they were able to come up with this AIT over the next 2 days a man continuously tried to withdraw money from Alan’s account over and over I believe he tried about 11 times but it was only twice he was able to successfully extract any money and it was about £700 that he had stolen it’s been theorized that Alan must have had a daily withdrawal limit um on his account £350 being that daily amount and that is why only two of the 11 attempts were successful in drawing money out police were able to obtain CCTV footage from around the area of several of the cash points and this CCTV footage told them a lot but not a lot at the same same time in the footage it appears to be the same man each time he covers his face with a distinct scarf and he avoids the cameras where he can this man walks with a bit of an off gate and an expert who reviewed the footage said that it’s possible that this man walks with a limp due to his right leg being longer than his left I think that it’s so mad that people are able to tell this sort of stuff from like video footage especially because like you can see the video footage is so bad it’s really grainy they also estimate that he’s between 59 and 5’11 in height the footage also told investigators that it’s likely that this was a local man he knew where the cameras were and he tried to avoid them where he could and he knew where all of the different cash points were I don’t believe that Alan’s card was used again after Alan’s body was discovered I don’t know if that was down to the person just stopping using the card once new was broke about Allan’s murder in order to try and not get caught or if Alan’s card was blocked I leaned towards Alan’s card being blocked but I couldn’t find a definitive answer for that I did try and look for one so despite investigators literally having a very small mountain of information about this man they have his DNA which is one of the best pieces of evidence you can have and they also have an aish showing what he potentially could look like but they don’t have a name when trying to figure out this man’s motive what reason he had to kill Alan police were slightly stumped of course because this man had stolen Alan’s bank card and was actively stealing money from him it was pretty safe to assume that it was for monetary gain but Sylvia Alan’s sister said that if they wanted money Allan would have given them M he would not have risked his life he would have give them exactly what he wanted and he did but if the murder was just for monetary gain then why the prolonged torture why binding Alan up and trying to decapitate and when he’s already give you what he wanted his bank card and his pin number why all of that extra awful stuff why even murder him if you’ve already gotten what you want from him there is the possibility that Alan knew his killer he lived in very secluded L and his Bungalow wasn’t exactly somewhere that you’d stumble upon you’d have to know that you were going there to find it and get there if that makes sense so had this person been to alen’s home before or at least just known where he lived there was no signs of forced entry so was this person invited to Alan’s home or had they really just turned up there knocked on the door and then ambushed them when he opened it sticking with the mor of B monetary game because I think that’s the presumption that’s the general consensus is it possible that Alan knew his killer or the killer knew Alan knew that he had his own business knew that he drove a fancy car knew that he lived alone and that they pursued assumed that he was rich Alan certainly wasn’t Rich by any means he lived very modestly and he wasn’t a glauer he didn’t glot about money he didn’t glot about any of his possessions he didn’t glot at all he didn’t do anything to give anyone the impression that he was rich during the investigation into Alan’s murder over 20,000 people were questioned however that Yale did nothing Saints Brees put up a £10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest that leads to a conviction and alen’s murder was featured on an episode of crime watch however neither generated any useful leads police have put out that they wish to question a man named Powell I will put his full name on screen because I will never be able to pronounce his surname but police would like to question Powell he is not a suspect they believe that he has some useful information Powell worked at a car wash where Alan would frequent ly take his car so that is where the connection between Alan and Powell comes from the DNA that was found at the scene is periodically checked in the UK National Database and also in some International ones as well so that leads me to think that maybe the killer wasn’t a linol shire native or they might have fled the country on Lincolnshire Police website they have translated Alan Woods’s case File page into several different languages including Albanian Croatian Hungarian lvan polish Ukrainian and a couple more so I don’t know if that’s telling or what as of this recording there has still not been a match to this male DNA in 2016 there was finally some movement on the case there was actually a really big step forward when four arrests were made one person was arrested on suspicion of murder and then three other people were arrested for conspiracy y however all were released without charge and that’s literally all the information I could get regarding these arrests I don’t know what led police to these people what was their reason for being arrested and what was their reason for being let go but that’s all the information I could find about these arrests that have been the only arrests in the case on the 10th anniversary of Alan’s murder his sister’s Sylvia and Janice along with a couple of alen’s friends hosted a little remembrance event for room at his favorite place the Willoughby arms here they all shared fond memories and they all grieved together about how much they missed him they had this picture of him put in a frame along with his usual order a pint and a packet of mini chedds police also had a van shown Alan’s picture and brief details of his murder placed in the city center to try and generate some more leads Alan’s sister Sylvia done an emotional interview with in 2019 where she is appealing for information she wants to know why why Alan why was he targeted why was he viciously murdered and tortured in the way that he was she talks about their mother who was in their 80s and who is desperate for answers before it’s too late she talks about how her own memories of Alan are tarnished she can’t look at a picture of him smiling because she knows that that smile is not going to last much longer she talks about how Alan had bright dreams and hopes and goals in life and it breaks her heart because she knows that he has never going to get the chance to fulfill those you can hear the pain and the desperation in Sylvia’s voice how much she needs these answers in claure um Alan Wood’s sister and Alan was brutally murdered 10 years ago um which was absolutely shocking awful thing to happen to any anybody but um it devastated our family and we we haven’t got over it even now uh 10 years on we miss him like crazy very gentle kind man he liked a quiet life watching old films listening to music reading a book when we found out what happened to Alan originally we didn’t know how he’d been murdered um it was originally very upsetting just to find that he’d been murdered in his home but when we found out what had actually happened to him in the brutal way that he was tied up um tortured for hours and left to die on his own living room floor with his throat cut um hopefully you’ll never have to find how that feels to know your brother was terrify for hours and knowing he was going to be killed they must have singled him out for some reason because you wouldn’t turn up where he lived randomly and lock on someone’s door and do what they did it must have followed him back to his house at some point for a reason whether they thought he was somebody he wasn’t or they thought he had more money than he did so that’s the biggest why I think not even who because there’s a lot of horrible people in the world but why pick on him and that’s the biggest question I think we would like to have answered say our memories of Alan have been tarnished because any memories you have any photos you look at or times you can remember as children are tarnished because you know what’s going to happen to him I see him smiling at photos and I know the smiles aren’t going to last for long and he has had plans in his life there’s things he wanted to do and I know that they were never going to come true my mom’s in her 80s now and she deserves to know before she dies why her son was killed like this and that they’re punished we’re really you know asking people if they have any um information at all that can help find this people people personal people that did this to him that they come forward and tell the police because uh me and my family need closure um it’s a you know he’s a he was a gentle gentle man that um nobody deserves this to happen to him but why why he was singled out for this treatment and that is today’s case if you have any information regarding Alan Wood’s murder you can contact link police on 101 or email force. control links. pnnp police. 1. I think he was murdered by eastern europeans. Polish or Lithuanian.

Lincolnshire was highly populated by transient east europeans farm worker types.

He lived alone. Two men were watching him as they thought he had money. Cause he owned a Jaguar E-Tpe. So they knocked on the door at night and he let them in as the door was intact. Post Brexit. They went back to their country. Which is why their DNA which is on file has never been matched to anyone.

    2. Very sad and thoughts are with Alan's family. Donal MacIntyre's excellent Cold Case review of the murder laid bare that Alan was using prostitutes which are often linked to Eastern European crime. It's not beyond imagination that a visiting escort, booked by Alan, would easily gain entry unquestioned/without the need to break in and the murderer(s) in cahoots with her, or, it was examined, that Alan "may" have offended a girl or the gangs who she works for. Also, that would mean it's possible Alan let it be known he was a businessman, which led him open to being targetted by them for money. In finding there was no ready cash at his home, this may have prompted the killers to torture him for money and then only take what they could actually get via the bank cards.
