to win the Tour to France you have to be good at a couple of things and the tour of Switzerland has those things in abundance two time trials within the 8-day run some very high mountains a day for durable sprinters and some hills for a breakway almost the perfect preparation for the gr Booker welcome to the tour of Switzerland 8 Days potentially of hell and indeed hellish weather was in the local as we started off in Vu on what looked like an easy course a rectangle pure and simple absolutely not some technical turns to deal with some Rises and Falls as well tough to master well our Benchmark had been set by Shia Almeida and Eve Lampa came out the veteran 33 years of age now but he can still perform on a time trial bike especially at this kind of distance and he was superb how long would he be in the hot seat that was the big question [Music] well Ethan hater set off the dry ramp at this time anyway in a fance of plenty of the favorites for the day all seen the weather forecast with rain set for later hater went for it well he’s had a quiet period on the time trial bike by his own H high standards but today he looked magnificent good enough a second at that point it would end up being a Podium spot for Ethan more to come surely stepan Biser said off as home favorite well the Swiss love their Riders and indeed this year’s course is so dramatic Stephan bisa always is when he gets on a time trial bike and on a short distance such as this he was expected to dominate The Clock sadly for him just turning red at the very last second place for bisa pushing hater on to third on the podium well the rain came it was starting to threaten when Tom Pitcock set off on his run he’s an exceptional bike Handler and indeed by the time he came to the line we were kind of feeling sorry for him there was spits and spots of rain drizzle about still 23rd but only 17 seconds giving away that was a good run it wasn’t such a good run for Richard carapaz if you’re going to win a grand tour you have to nail the time trialing and the climbing we know about his climing credentials today the time trial didn’t exactly go his way 23 seconds lost today time you’ll have to make up some of that anyway when we get to The High Ground some surprises did come late Runner TBO nice Stella on a damp course outstanding just giving away 23 seconds he of course will be one of those who are watching on the lumpy Sprint tomorrow he is a durable Sprinter after all an exciting team to keep an eye on no doubt UI team Emirates and finfisher black fifth today 7 seconds given away only on a damp course that was absolutely remarkable he is a show booer and today he held it together brilliantly nobody could defeat Eve lampar he in the yellow Jersey the overall standings the same effectively as the stage classification so can he hold on to it on stage two that’s the big question the yellow Jersey is in his hands he says he intends to defend it and here is those standings lampart head of visa and hater same indeed as our results today who’ll be taking a step forward when we get onto the lumpy stuff Beto might be a good bet as well you know can he go from distance well he’s got the perfect day to do so they say it’s going to be a Sprint but it is Lumpy as hell heaven for others then I guess you might say some of the pure sprinters might be knocked back by early climbs two Category 2 tests along the way but it’s the lake climb very close to the finish that really is going to cause some consternation by the time we get there there’ll be some tired legs and possibly some tired Minds as well it’s been a busy season so far there is a tight tiso Sprint to win a watch out there likewise there’s that final clim and when you see the altimetry you kind of realize what they’ve got to deal with it’s going to be tough then again nobody said the tour of Switzerland was an easy task just look at that a spinter day well a hard spinter certainly wonderful T of Switzerland’s underway can’t wait for stage two [Music] [Music]
