Join me on this little adventure as I head to Whitehaven by train to start my Hadrian’s Cycleway tour. I set off in overcast gloom but it soon turns into a lovely day for cycling.

hello so on this video we’ll be doing the Hadrian cycle wear ncn 72 officially you start from Raven glass but the path around the Celli area is out of action so I will be starting in White Haven after getting the train from carile across to White Haven I’ll be overnigh in car that’s where I live and then continuing camping somewhere halfway between here car is and South Shields and then I’ll catch the train back to car once I’ve completed it so yeah really looking forward to this one so enjoy the [Music] video good morning we’re in a blustery White Haven for the start of the Hadrian cycle wear we’re going to head on North up the coast and then cut in land East towards caral hopefully later on today but I’ll bring you back along the way [Music] [Music] welome back towards White Haven in Pon and we’ve just climbed outa now we’re picking up the hyrian cycle away [Music] this is 4 M out of wide Haven another four we see in workington this way sun is trying its best to get out we had a little bit of rain just as we left sort of Pon we drizzle that’s gone to nothing but uh it is trying so hopefully we’ll get a bit of sunshine along this route today but all good at the moment all Offroad proper cycle wear so all is good all right [Music] Adrian cycle way to the left reavers straight on yeah so when you’re coming out of workington just make sure you’re bear left not right cuz that’ll take you towards clck mouth we’re heading sort of towards the coast and then down to maryport [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah I don’t know if you can hear us in this wind but we just stopped north of Mary P te five looking across towards Scotland on the prominade here but uh going to rehydrate for five done about 15 Mi so far so I just rest the back side I think I need to adjust me Saddle slightly just a little bit uh yeah just take five not sure if you’re supposed to come through the middle of this golf course but I have I think you are okay no I was on the right uh route you do come through the golf course cuz it’s signed back through there and we follow this I’m heading Sil is 15 miles so I’ll probably stop there for some lunch got a lovely smooth bit of tarmak next to the main road here nice and straight nice and smooth perfect and the sun’s out what Mark can you ask for e [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] w yeah it sendur up uh from the coast up R by the farms and at one said I thought oh I’m going down a farmers l in here but then I seen the cycle tracks I thought oh yeah it must be the right way but basically it just avoids the main road you can continue on the main road but yeah this just takes it off the main road and makes it a lot more pleasurable intoa [Applause] [Music] this [Music] okay so that’s me all fed the the fairy dust Emporium well worth good food nice coffee but uh yeah I’m full now so I need to burn these calers off but yeah looking across the sway into Scotland so now we’re going to be leaving the coast and heading Inland and East towards I think sort of Abby town kirkbride and then I follow the coast from Bru round into caral so bring you back along the Route [Music] yeah when we done the leads Liverpool Canal when we left Skipton we come across a memorial um some Polish Aon crashed beside the canal y side of Skipton and and these are the old Airfield buildings used today yeah quite a few of them dotted about the place some of over there some over there so obviously this was far away from London so they were pretty safe up here but yeah I just thought I would piece it together cuz I did mention the Airfield was s for L’s s Airfield I what’s left of it anyhow [Music] [Applause] [Music] home cultum Abby AB town and the sun’s showing itself now beautiful afternoon but uh we’re going to push on keep going I’m going to stop about another five mile down the road and take a Brea keep doing in s of 10 Mile segments and stop [Music] them St John’s Church New Aros but uh yeah as you can see quite light today I don’t have the back bag I’ll need that tomorrow cuz obviously tonight I’m stopping in my house when I get back to car that’s where I live and then tomorrow I’ll continue I’ll have the extra bag on so I’ve just got a few bits and Bobs in here bits of food and stuff waterproofs and i’ love to see I’m going to give me chain a bit of a wipe cuz it feels a bit dry put my jacket in here I’m going to give this a little bit of lubrication cuz it feels a little dry [Music] [Music] so we’re going to have a bit of a headwind for about 2 or 3 miles till we turn the point and then head back East again so it is what it is just keep pushing on all right we’re in the village of Anor just stopped for a drink Tech five it’s a bit windy yeah I’m going to have a headwind till I get around the point and then I start coming back East again but uh nothing I can do about that still a lovely afternoon there you more you go in it’s a bit cloudier but the coast seems to be a bit sunnier so looking over towards the Lakes there but they’re all shrouded in Cloud unfortunately [Music] yeah so get a bit further then we start to turn and come back in land and that’s when I’ll have a Tailwind because the tide is coming in you see the clouds the weather whipping across be a bird’s nest down here oh something kicked off yeah so this was probably an old Runway at some stage in its life World War II what afternoon it’s quite beautiful so we’re heading tomorrow in that sort of Direction you can just see the hills there and the hills there we go between the two of them the Tian Valley hopefully [Music] [Music] okay marport 26 rev glass 55 walls end 84 you can just see the end of that fired up from this side now and across across there right we’re going to push on we just into Bess on Solway and then we’ll uh head back towards carile okay the start of the Roman wall walk boness H’s wall path should be a stamper in there but go there’s the there’s the Solway Viaduct there it is there look in 1869 yeah the vi was closed again in 21 after being judged unsafe by Engineers the bridge was finally demolished in 1935 and All That Remains is the two ends is what we’ve seen before y so tomorrow we’ll be heading this way I’m thinking maybe stopping somewhere around stocksfield or before maybe Corbridge and then I’ll finish off on Wednesday well I think I got a South Shields right onwards [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] so this is where I finish I will pick up tomorrow from here but I live up this way I’m back over the bridge so join me tomorrow for part two and I hope you’ve enjoyed part one

    1. A grand start to what looks like a very enjoyable ride, my fingers are crossed that all goes well and you do in fact have a good bike packing wee adventure. ATB Big Dave

    2. Great, did this route with my daughter a few years ago; east to west. Overnighting along the way on basic farmers camp fields and an interesting stopover pitched at Maryport Rugby Ground! We had good weather and no westerlies fortunately. A good one if introducing a young person to cycle touring (has stuck with her) and with a pick up at Ravenglass, a visit to the Safari Zoo afterwards.

    3. We were up that way last Saturday Dave! Had our lunch on the prom in Maryport, then up to Allonby and Silloth, Skinburness and Abbeytown. Not on push bikes mind, we were in our MX5! Lovely day 👌
Mum and Dad used to take me up to Silloth to watch the motorcycle racing, do you remember that?
Great video, and a great route TFS cheers Alistair 👍

    4. This brought back memories from our trip along the Hadrian route, we started from Ravenglass and had to battle our way around Sellafield which was a challenge.

    5. This route is on my ‘to do’ list. I’d be hoping to start at the Roman Bath House at Ravenglass. Apparently, the path around Sellafield is passable on foot. Look forward to part 2 👍

    6. Looked a lovely route mate, lots of nice traffic free and of course the history, would love to do it someday, there’s something about coastal trips, looking forward to the inland video part 2⛺️🚲👍🏻
