Skinny wheels, saddle bags and schnitzel. We take on our first bikepacking tour across the Austrian Alps. Here’s what went down on Day 1 as we cycle south from Salzburg city towards Innsbruck in Tyrol, with our final mission being to ascend Gerlos Pass and setup camp.
For our first bike touring / bikepacking experience, we opted out of a purely gravel ride. As Austria’s roads are really well maintained, we swapped our tyre setup for a more efficient 28C pairing and kept this trip close to civilisation.
Route:
Salzburg City – Gerlos Pass (Tyrol)
Total Distance: 183km
Total Elevation: 1810m
Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/3599786389
Bikes:
BMC Roadmachine X
Reilly Spectre
Canyon Grail
Rondo Ruut
Bikepacking Gear:
Garmin Edge 810
Apidura Saddle Bag
Ortlieb Frame Bag
We shot this entirely on a GoPro Hero 8 (mixed with some poor Hero 5 footage…sorry about that).
