oh man the sixth Iron Man Pro Series race of the year the Iron Man European championship for the female professional triathletes was crazy it did not pan out how it was supposed to on paper but I guess when does it ever in these Iron Man races as the Iron Man European champs this one had $875,000 on offer in prize purse and no man to split it with which meant the winner from this one was going to take home $28,000 and it was going to be a surprise Victor who would end up saying I’m slightly in shock so it was just a really good day well that really good day started out with a fast fast swim unsurprisingly it was finel langrage and Julie Amo who led the way fighting back and forth for position but getting a decent gap on a chase group of five women eventually that would end up being 2 minutes and 48 seconds when they got out of the water it wasn’t that much of a gap it was actually for finel a less of a gap than she had on Cat in Texas where she had 4 minutes she had about 3 minutes here and that wasn’t because finel swam slower in fact she swam faster than she did in Texas it just seemed that it was a really fast swim course which cat took advantage of and that she was in a really good group now much further back from them was ‘s Visser who was a top Contender for this race coming in with fine form she was six minutes back and also home favorite Daniela blel the two of them had a lot to catch up on but we know that they have two of the strongest bike legs so it wasn’t all over for them by then now moving out onto the bike well actually first it was the extremely long transition that Hamburg is known for vanela did say in the pre-race that she wanted to do the unexpected and that started with a fast transition and going out onto the bike course hoping to increase that lead that she gotten from the swim however cat was pretty close with that 3 minutes down and in Texas they did have the same bike split however cat did have a 5-minute penalty there so it seemed like finel would have to do something better on this bike course plus cat always is known to have a better run than finel so it would take something unexpected and special here on the bike for her now as it started out Julie emo who had a fantastic swim continued with a fantastic bike ride she was competing in her first full distance race and she held on to finella for quite a long time now not long into the race and finel got an advantage over cat as cat’s front bottle fell off well actually the mount for the bottle did and she struggled for quite a while trying to figure out what to do with it she didn’t dispose of it in the trash which was next to her and she couldn’t put it down her race suit because of the new rule that doesn’t allow anything down the front of the suit so that meant she lost touch with the group she was in that included MAA stage neelsen and Jackie hering so one thing’s for sure I’m in trouble because it is my fault it’s not a bike it’ll be a mechanical thing it won’t be the bike breaking it’ll be mechanics however it didn’t take long for cat to catch back up to that group and push to the front and despite the fact that they had the larger group it was actually finel and Julie who were gaining time on them eventually gaining up to 4 and 1/2 minutes to 5 minutes on cat at the back of that group eventually though that would start to change as cat started to push the pace with ell Visser and Sarah FX as well as Danielo blel who had managed to catch up all of that Gap from the swim Els was looking great there often taking turns at the front however out of nowhere Sarah Spanx seemed to miss the fact that there was a U-turn coming up and wasn’t able to break in time and slammed right into ell’s she took quite a nasty fall while ell’s somehow managed to stay upright however it clearly wasn’t going to be her day because despite that and despite all the work she’ done to get to the front of this bike she picked up a puncture at the worst time possible with only about 30 kilomet to go she was in looking in a great spot in this race because cat Matthews had actually just gotten disqualified for overtaking in a no passing Zone it was a mistake that she fully admitted to she said she saw the flashing red lights from the race Ranger and got into overtake mode and clearly made an error but kudos to her she appraised the officials out there and she was back out on course cheering the women during the run so another tough result for cat this year and this will really hamper her chances at the Iron Man Pro Series but back to ‘s because she suffered with this puncture for quite some time she ended up losing almost 9 minutes and came down into transition 11 minutes back on finel finella had a decent Gap coming into transition although she did seem to slow down a little bit as that other group caught up a good bit of time and Daniela blel managed to break away and came in under 30 seconds behind finel she had to crawl under the transition fence here to get to where her bike was supposed to be racked but she was looking fantastic she unfortunately had to pull out of Iron Man South Africa towards the end and she was having a great race day there so clearly she was in some fine form and it really was anybody’s game at this point Jackie Herring was the complete wild card here as she hadn’t raced a full Iron Man for nine years since becoming a mother of two she said that was hard enough at the time she didn’t need to do anything harder like an Iron Man but she said now that the kids are older she needed something harder again and she’s back doing these Iron Man’s and wow she just kept picking off one athlete after another same with maage neelon she moved up as well a few places they were together for a little bit but it was Jackie Herring who pushed on for the longest time it was about 20 to 30 seconds and then she just got more and more time all the way towards the end of the marathon she looked comfortable and solid doing it her husband said he predicted she would run a 250 to 252 on the marathon and that’s exactly what she ended up doing a mindblowing run pace and a mind-blowing overall time of 819 and 14 seconds which was the fifth fastest Iron Man time of all time when asked did her mind change from thinking about just finishing to the win she said um I think it’s important to always keep the goal as finishing I seriously that that was my goal the whole time clearly was an emotional victory for her $285,000 is quite a bit of prize money he’s reportedly been hoping to get a hot tub so this might be her time to do it she takes second place in the Pro Series standings just behind finel langri who ended up finishing in fourth place which was just enough points based on the time that she was behind Jackie to take that number one spot mil St neelen moves up in in the rankings as she finished a really good second place for her and also a rapid fast time she looked really good on the bike today had an all round performance and then Daniela blel outrunning finel langage unbelievable bike here from her and she’ll definitely be one to keep an eye out for in nice as that is one tough bike course and Suits someone like her but Jackie Herring really takes all the headlines here and shows herself as a top competitor for this Pro Series she’s got two decent results at the 70.3 and now she’s just got two more good Iron Man’s one more besides the nice World Championships and then also 70.3 worlds can’t wait to see more of her the 39-year-old is flying thanks for watching Everybody we’ll see you in the next one and remember if you become a channel member you’ll get access to these videos sooner

    1. Thank you for your great Highlight as always!
Kath front bottle issue shows that this new rule can't be so black and white and that surely she should have been able to put it in her Trisuit until she could eventually drop it somewhere.

    2. Kat has to be winning for having the worst luck lately starting with the DNF in Kona last year…… such a class act though, hoping she can get it together for the end of the season.

    3. Why is this race called the European Championship? There's lots of races in Europe. If it was really a championship, wouldn't all of the European contenders enter this race?

    4. since they ripped the events apart (women's and men's race) i care less about the whole race model. It was always a party following all athletes at the same time. And i also really don't like that they now do the World championship always somewhere else. Commercial bunch of marketing. Sad stuff!
