very fast finisher indeed’s look at kmin getting back oh there another B another crash left hand side they’re all over the place here all over the place now what on Earth has happened there left and right of the road there are Riders everywhere at the dine there are Riders absolutely everywhere and this is an absolute disaster what on Earth has happened here this is a different crash there the one at back there’s I mean Rob there’s 20 30 Riders down here this is a we did not want to see 157 let’s start to identify the Riders that’s Harry sweedy just picking up his bike and there are at least 20 30 perhaps even more Riders down here at the doin and this is a shocking shocking scene there’s a conversation there between chor and cus Jorgenson is okay we’re seeing the race neutralized there are that many riders down that this race today has been neutralized yep they being told at the front as well y that was and we only saw the tail end of that crash on that straight bit of Road rob you know uh some well Lots I mean yeah we can’t even Michael is down there and there’s war wounds and this is something we have not seen thankfully we don’t see it often but this is something we have not seen for a long long time look at the state of of the road let’s see who else is down as well on left hand side you’ve got Dy fala and he’s already having a chat there with the rider from asan Kazakhstan 13 here uh I should say sorry that’s uh James KNX I think that’s James Knox jensson is fine we’ve seen him up the front yep and the race has been neutralized but that was James Knox the Gregor mulberg has crashed yet again he’s on that far side in the ditch there just just Rob just look at this surface I mean this is that is newly laid T it’s it’s a relatively straight B there’s a crash at the back and then there’s another one at the front as well completely isolated from this crash where I first camera angle was there’s Riders laying it down here and Riders 100 m on as soon as you touch the brakes there’s no control of the bike that left hand side there is like ice and this is the result on a relatively benign bit of Road in terms of the direction that wasn’t on a harsh Corner that was just Riders completely and utterly losing track ction but first and foremost Rob we can say just hope that everybody is okay that laid it down in that crash and the and the right thing has been done in terms of temporarily neutralizing this stage so we can get medical assistance to everybody on the road Primo RIT has gone down in that crash primar RIT has crashed at the dofini also there is Neils pollet down there looks like it might be Juan yo there are Riders waiting in and around him there there is Remco aapol who is down Primo RIT and Remco iol are down at the dolini Remco iol is holding his right shoulder he’s in the yellow Jersey we wait we watch we worry but it does not look good we hope that everything is better than it looks because this is a nightmare scene firstly for the health of everybody secondly providing that everybody is as okay as they can be for the spectacle upcoming in the next month month and a half remco’s on the deck at the do and the fact he’s not on his feet worries me immensely y this is narson Who’s down sorry Matt and Oliver narson is in a right mess here yep I mean they know that the race has been they know that the race has been neutralized but as you say he’s um let’s have a look at this Tom Steels is with him there and that was aayo that was AO has been helped to his feet by godoli this now is eveno and remember he had a shoulder issue from the crash in the Bas country he’s holding that right shoulder and this was meant to be that day where he pulled on the yellow Jersey This was meant to be that day where he was not quite living in Dreamland but things were back on track a victory yesterday a yellow Jersey to go with it and now the inquest and the investigations the chats continue because this is something that w I mean this is something we definitely didn’t want to see this is something that could affect yet again the whole season and once more we’re back with this discussion but what on Earth happened what really happened here mant well it’s just simil it’s just so slippy that’s a straight bit of Road rob it goes and then it’s happens basically one Rider just lcks traction and the instant that somebody loses Traction in front you break and that’s when you just you there’s no grip at all especially on the left hand side there we got some closeups of that freshly laid Tac which is actually on both sides of the road just look at the shine when you get reflective when you get a reflective surface like that it’s a reflective surface because it’s smooth I mean the light is reflecting of the water because it’s completely and utterly like glass like there uh so multiple rods have come down unfortunately i’ I’ve been in similar situations myself where on a straight bit of Road one Rider comes down then the rest of light Skittles we’ve seen that across some finishing the Finish Line in some stages of the jro a few years back on a straight bit of Road once somebody touches The Brak Val has also been down I mean what R hasn’t come down in the crash that’s the question here as we see thankfully it looks like Primo RIT the way he’s standing there he looks to be okay let’s po it on the left hand side down on the right oh and this is not good at all for Santiago Umba is the young Colombian climate I mean is that just a wet Road mat with with the grass cuz there seem to be quite a bit of grass there or or is there something else on the road is there some substance on the road they could they could be oil on the road but again just the way everybody went down there it was so unusual it looks like it’s fresh it’s relatively freshly laid tarmac looking at that you can actually see the the paint on the road where where the white lines have been so that’s that’s another indication that it’s quite fresh um it’s just freshly laid tarmac and when you put rain in the mix there’s nothing it’s not the fault of anybody it’s just it’s a very difficult one to actually rationalize and and even legislate for but we we we have seen it in the past thankfully it’s quite rare but on this sort of surface there is literally no very little traction available for a rider even in a straight line especially if somebody just touches the brakes and as we saw on that corner about 10 10 km previously a very gentle Meandering right-hander and the wheels just washed out now Dylan fala has yet to get to his feet and we saw a conversation there with jensson and a couple of other Riders I say that Steven crri as well is in quite a bit of danger there he was been checked out by the doctor the riders that you saw on your screen a minute ago are okay Tim Wallin is in conversation with the commers this is James Knox just said he said I was just on my backside sliding I mean the only mitigating thing here is the fact they were carrying a lot of speed speed and ryer did slide a long way but still he going to lose skin we’ll get a breakdown of exactly it’s going to be an interesting communicate tomorrow at the start of the race that’s for sure

    1. With such high stakes and so close to GT, I reckon the big guns will stop racing the smaller races or pull out on days like today. Realistically, they don't care about winning here (or Itzulia) and the dangers are ridic.

    2. That’s not ‘freshly laid tarmac’

That’s knackered worn out road where the shingle has worn down to the bitumen that binds it

Probably oil on rain too but crappy road is to blame here, not common in France

    3. Organisers have responsibility to ensure the safety of riders. When the tarmac is in such condition or the weather conditions like that, they should take measures, eg impose speed control or change the course… the same apply when overzealous fans want to be the centre of attention …

    5. All these multi rider crashes in wet conditions aren't caused by lack of grip, but by the available grip being overwhelmed by the power and lack of modulation of disc brakes.

    6. Everyone knows it's raining, so why not put tyres with grip on the bikes? How many crashes happen in the rain and riders get injured just because of tyres? Unbelievable

    7. There is one point i can see old white lines painted over with new white lines, it's not possible to put freshly layed asphalt under old white lines

    8. disc breaks especially in rainy conditions was one of the best innovations… for the industry and sales guys involved.

    9. Thats what people like watching in cycling. And cycling organizers know that. There will be even more cxcling accidents inflicted in future .

    10. This sport is getting more mental 😮 large groups going down, never happened in the 80s when i raced 🏁 gotta stay up front?! Guys are saying is it worth it???? One ended Eddy's career

    11. In the beginning of the video, the left cyclist did the best he could in this horrible situation. He cycled further to the left, knowing he is going to crash anyway, to get in the grass for a softer impact.
