In this video, we’re taking a look around 5 of the worst areas to live in the city of Gloucester, Gloucestershire.

We’ve based our findings on a combination of deprivation reports, Census data, crime statistics, and local knowledge.

Here is some data on the city of Gloucester:

“Gloucester is a historic and culturally rich city situated in the South West of England, within the county of Gloucestershire. Its history stretches back to Roman times when it was known as Glevum.

The city’s strategic location near the River Severn transformed it into an essential settlement, especially during periods like the medieval era, the English Civil War, and the industrial revolution.

One of Gloucester’s most iconic landmarks is the Gloucester Cathedral. Initially founded as an abbey in 678, it evolved into a cathedral by the 16th century.

Renowned for its awe-inspiring Gothic architecture, this cathedral has also graced the screen as a filming location for various films, notably the Harry Potter series.

The historic docks, once the pulse of the city’s economy, have now been rejuvenated into a bustling tourist hotspot, complete with museums, shops, and eateries.

For sports enthusiasts, Kingsholm Stadium stands as a beacon, being the home ground for Gloucester Rugby, one of England’s top professional rugby teams.

Economically, Gloucester has witnessed significant shifts. While the aerospace industry, with stalwarts like Dowty Rotol and Smiths Aerospace, historically anchored its economic landscape, recent times have seen sectors like services, tourism, and retail gaining momentum.

Culturally, Gloucester remains vibrant and dynamic. The city takes pride in hosting the annual Three Choirs Festival, the oldest music festival in the British Isles.

Moreover, events like the Gloucester Rhythm & Blues Festival and the Gloucester International School Jazz Festival further underscore its cultural significance.

Educationally, Gloucester is well-equipped, with the University of Gloucestershire being a prominent institution offering an array of academic courses.

In terms of connectivity, the city is well-linked. The M5 motorway ensures easy access to cities like Bristol and Birmingham, while the Gloucester Railway Station provides direct rail services to major hubs, including London and Cardiff.

Beyond the city’s bustling streets, the Cotswolds, recognized as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, lie in close proximity, offering residents and visitors a picturesque escape.

In summation, Gloucester seamlessly marries its storied past with a vibrant present.

Whether one is keen on delving into its rich history, participating in its myriad cultural events, or simply soaking in the surrounding scenic beauty, Gloucester stands as a unique and lively city in England’s heart.”

welcome to UK explored in this video we’re taking a look at five of the worst areas to live in the city of Gloucester gluster is famous for its Cathedral rugby team historic docks and double gluster cheese but if you take a wrong turn you can easily end up in one of the high crime districts there and find yourself in a spot of bother I took those wrong turns for you so you don’t have to here is a look at five of the worst areas to live or even visit in glester we’re going to kick off this list with an area that is probably best known across the country due to the rugby and that’s King’s Home and woodon these two areas are grouped together for the purpose of crime stats they have a combined population of around 12,000 and they located just outside of the city center starting off with the plus points Kings home is home to Kings home stadium which is obviously the home stadium of glester rugby it’s a great Stadium I’ve watched matches there myself the atmosphere inside and outside the stadium on Match Day Is Awesome The gluster Royal Hospital is also within the area and demographically it’s not the most diverse area but it does have an interesting range of local businesses and services to illustrate why it’s one of the worst areas to live in Gloucester however King’s home is listed as one of the most deprived areas in Gloucester and it also has the highest crime rate outside of the city center the main problems with King’s home from a living standpoint are the Loc a and also the type of housing that there is there being near to the city center is convenient for shopping and work but there is always going to be crime and antisocial Behavior spilling out into the residential areas around the city center the same goes for hospitals and train stations both of which are in close proximity to King’s home then you have the rugby stadium which it’s a great Stadium but the noise and the footfall on Match day isn’t something that most people want to live amongst and there are also some of the antisocial problems that spill out into the area I browsed dozens of crime headlines for the area and many of which revolve around assaults at the station hospital and Ry ground to back that up there have also been some serious incidents in the residential areas of Kings this year though there have been murders drug dealers are known to operate in the area and honestly I can tell you from experience it’s pretty dodgy in Parts at night on the housing stock front there was an interesting mix of large houses most of which were built back in the early 30s but these are often turned into flats or hmos because they’re close to the city center there are also some tight Terrace runs and there is a large social housing project in fact this complex here consisting of this huge high-rise Tower block and lows of social housing Flats is the largest concentration of this type of housing in glester I believe which is why there is such a large population in such a small area as you can see here for me walking around inside this housing complex it’s not the tidiest or most appealing area I know a lot of people don’t have a choice but to live here but there is no escaping the fact that it’s not the most desirable area to live on that note if you’re thinking about moving to King’s home according to right move the average house price last year was in the 277,000 range which is pretty Bonkers honestly here is a look at the main shopping district to give you an idea of the kind of needs of the community there and to wrap up in summary I guess what I’m trying to say is if you’re looking for a quiet low crime neighborhood to live in King’s home is the opposite of that next on the list we have an area called Barton which is probably the most notorious area in Gloucester and for all the wrong reasons Barton is another area located just outside of the center of Gloucester and it has the infamous Barton Street running right through it this is the most diverse area in Gloucester and according to Wikipedia as many as 70 different languages are spoken across Bon the sensus data is grouped with tread worth which is an area also covered in this video and together these areas have a population of around 12,000 in the footage here you can see Barton Street which I’ve heard referred to as the most Multicultural Street in the whole of the UK as you can see there are various World Food Shops and small businesses as well as quite a few closed down shops which isn’t uncommon in the current economic climate but I can tell you from experience that a lot of businesses do shut up shop and move around down this street even though Barton Street has a police station on it and it’s well lit busy and it’s known to be a dangerous area it’s still really not a street you want to be walking down especially late at night there have been loads of assaults robberies and worse in this area over the years it’s also known to be the red light district and speaking to some locals while filming they say it’s the worst that it’s ever been right now in their opinion just looking at the headlines for this year there have been murders in the area coordinated operations by the police to bust illegal drug oper being operated by the businesses in the area and various serious assaults crime rate. co.uk has Barton as the third most dangerous area in Gloucester behind the city center and King home that we just covered and it has a crime rate of 165 which again is more than double the UK average here is some footage from the housing Estates in Barton you may have noticed in King’s home and here in Barton that there are some houses and businesses painted bright colors these are rainbow homes as they called which was an idea from a local artist and property developer named Tash FCO she wants to make Gloucester a much more colorful place and it’s out paint more than 100 homes so far and I think this is an awesome idea and it does brighten up the area if you’re interested in house prices according to right move the average house price last year for Barton was in 18,000 range here is the old gler College it was once an impressive build but it’s been left to Decay and has been vandalized who knows how many times in summary Barton has a lot going for it it’s an interesting area but it’s definitely one of the worst places to live in Gloucester next up we have tadworth which is the area joint to Barton it’s a very similar area and the bordering lines are blurred I’m not sure exactly where tadworth and Barton starts and stops we’re picking this up by taking a walk down the High Street which much like Barton Street is to Barton High Street is the lifeblood of treworthy goes down not only does it have pubs takeaways and a lot of the other amenities that serve the area but it’s also notorious for having a lot of and savory characters after dark trador has a crime rate of 132 which in the scope of dangerous areas across the country really isn’t that high I’ve walked around tread a few times over the years it doesn’t feel like a dangerous a area not compared to some of the areas I visited from talking with people who live there however it’s you that cause most of the problems and it’s mostly those kind of antisocial behaviors that they’re concerned about recent news reports Echo this there have been gang wars serious assaults involving teenagers and there are loads of drug busts that go on in this area what is Apparent from Walker and tadworth is that the area is struggling fly tipping is a problem as is General littering there are also lots of houses in need of repair and the housing just generally looks dated because it is if you’re interested in house prices according to right move the average house price last year for tread worth was in the 243,000 range if you’re not familiar with Gloucester you will have noticed that property isn’t cheap in the city I can think of many areas across the country that I would rather live if I’m going to be spending that sort of money I’ll say that [Music] now we’re going to pop over to an area called Matson which is a couple miles south from Barton and tadworth and offers a very different landscape and demographic as the sign suggests there are sheep that roam around Matson at certain times of the year and you’ll see a few of them in this video Matson is predominantly a white area it started out as a postwar c list a comprising mostly of affordable blocks of flats that you can see in the footage there have been some development over the years and it certainly looks like that’s been ramping up in recent years and rightly so as the area is in serious need of rejuvenating Matson is in an interesting location it’s far enough from the city center not to get wrapped up in all those sort of problems and it’s intermingled with an area called Robinswood now Robinswood Hill is probably the best public green space glester has to offer and there are also some decent parks and communal spaces around Matson the dry ski slope you can see here in the distance is pretty cool I’ve been down it myself and done some tubing there back on the topic of why Matson isn’t a desirable place to live however Matson is another of the most deprived areas in Gloucester and it has a pretty high crime rate of 160 just looking through some of the very recent headlight lines there have been police chases that ended badly persistent offenders have being slapped with asbos there have been endless serious assaults and even firearm offenes headlines aside I know maton pretty well I’ve even known people who have lived there I can tell you without any doubt that Matson isn’t the safest area here was a look at the main shopping area I picked up a nice Biscoff burn from James while I was there and I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about the usace it’s a nonprofit community Hub that offer some support to the community and I always love to see facilities like that here is a charity shop and Community Center I noticed that a lot of the houses are taking part in reing which is the current Buzz term for letting your garden become a jungle and pretending that you’re helping nature average house prices for Matson are a little on the Steep side in my humble opinion right move estimates it to be in the 229,000 range here kitty kitty the final destination on this list of places you don’t want to live in Gloucester is an area called White City interestingly I looked at various maps and Council plans and I couldn’t find out exactly where the boundaries lie for this area in fact White City doesn’t even appear on some maps reading its Wikipedia page it appears that white city has always been an unofficial area in Gloucester but residents have campaigned over the years to be officially added to as a district by the council and they have done that but anyway the area very much exists and as if being forgotten about isn’t insulting enough White City is also clearly a deprived area and struggles with all the typical issues that deprived areas do I couldn’t find any official crime stats for the area but I can tell you that white city has a reputation for being rough seeing as it squashed in between Matson and tadworth two areas I’ve already covered in this video video that makes sense there isn’t a lot to talk about in terms of amenities and things to do in White City here is a small shopping area [Music] there and this is the main play park for kids as you can see from the footage it’s not the tidiest area I’m not going to say anything bad about White City but anyone from Gloucester will tell you that it’s not a great area and therefore I decided to include it on this list of areas that you don’t want to live in glester that about wraps it up for this rundown of the five worst areas to live in Gloucester this isn’t to say that gler is a bad City it’s actually one of the better cities I’ve been to on paper and in person and the stats do back that up but there are always bad neighborhoods in every town and City and it’s important to be aware of them I hope you enjoyed this video please press the like button and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already we have plenty more videos coming up showing the best of the worst of the UK thanks for tuning in

    1. White City is not bad at all. Actually, i'd go and say it's good. Maybe it's biased because i was raised there, but Tredworth, Kingsholm, Matson, and Podsmead are definitely much worse than White City. Coney Hill can also be said to be a bad area, but i lived there for a short while, and it was just quiet for me. Barton Street, as always, is a 'Avoid at all times, especially at night'.

    2. Nice Video, I believe the division on Barton and Tredworth is which side of Barton Street your on, as Barton leads onto Chequers one way or Town Centre the other way/ Eastgate St.

    3. Today whilst walking down Barton Street I saw a man sharpening his knife on the wall, a crackhead with a traffic cone hat, and 2 lads who had just nicked a mobility scooter- one was receiving a backy down the road. Always eventful 😂

    4. Honestly, I'm impressed – this is a good video. I am writing this comment in Matson. It's a good place to live in my opinion, but it certainly has its problems.

    5. I live in Matson nothing wrong with council estates if your brought up on and around them I was born and raised in Gloucester spent the first 30 yrs of my life living in tree worth I lived in Devon for ten years and I can tell you theirs areas their I wouldn’t let the cat wander round at night way worse then Gloucester not naming any but they exist
