Madone, Emonda…or something else entirely? We spotted a new Trek road bike at the 2024 Criterium Du Dauphine being ridden by Mads Pedersen and the Lidl Trek pro cycling team.

We’re still unsure whether the new Trek road race bike will be called the Trek Emonda or Trek Madone but it certainly appears to be merging the aero bike and lightweight road bike. This is likely the pro cycling race bike that Lidl Trek will race in every road bike stage at the 2024 Tour de France.

welcome back to the Criterium of day where we’ve just spotted the little trk team Rock up with some new bikes they do look very nice uh this is new Mone or that’s what it says on the top tube at least now initially we thought it might be a new amonda U because of the slim down tubing it certainly looks lighter than the Mone that little Trek had been riding in previous races but no it says Mone on the top tube and that probably means that well the old that’s it done for uh the amonda probably not coming back as we’ve seen Tre trying to cut its SKS so it’s trying to reduce how many bikes it has in its lineup so let’s go and take a closer look at the new bike so it’s clear to see that Tre has seriously slimmed down the tubing um there seems to be a much less Deep head tube um which is something that we’ve seen other teams move towards so the new Pinella that we’ve just seen has a much deeper head tube um so that’s gone um it certainly looks made for climbing but all the Riders are on this new bike so including mads pedison who’s one of the fast finishers another interesting thing is these bottle cages so they might take a conventional bead on but they are aor profiled around the tubes of the frame we can also see that it still has the isof flow system where the seat tube is allowed to flex to allow some compliance but supposedly this is a more Aero solution so how does the the new bike compared to the old one well I don’t think anyone’s going to be surprised that the iso flow system is still there TX says that this system dramatically improves aerodynamics by smoothing the air as it moves over the bike and accelerating it through the frame for even more free speed perhaps more importantly it’s a caner lever design that’s intended to flex over bumps to smooth the ride other than that it is all changed with shallower tubes across the board the head tube and the down tube are far far shallower than those on the seventh generation Mone and the same goes for these fork legs too the Seventh Generation Mone also had a seat tube that kind of wrapped around the Leading Edge of the rear wheel well that’s no longer a prominent feature here oh and the Deep seat stays have been replaced by decidedly skinny ones all of this we can only assume is to save weight the Seventh Generation Mone was significantly lighter than the sixth generation but it still weighed around 1,000 G for the frame to put that into perspective Ive the tarmac sl8 weighs 685 G some 3155 lighter I think the real question is whether Tre has sacrificed Arrow performance to save this weight that is always going to be hard for us to test but Tre will doubtlessly have a good story to tell and Chuck us a white papers worth of justifications for the changes when the bike officially drops you can tell that this one is mad’s pedison because it has a ridiculously large single chain ring as we touched on earlier there has been some debate on whether this new bike would be an AM or a Mone when we plastered the new bike all over the road CC website this afternoon people immediately jumped into the comment section say that it’s just a sticker and it could easily be changed well yeah true but we can’t really see any reason why Tre would want to mislead us like that they’re not that devious however before seeing that sticker I agree it did seem far more likely that this was an amonda that was on the cards the Seventh Generation mome which was the first to feature that hole in the seat tube was spotted just two years ago by us at the do that is a pretty short life cycle for a flagship bike the amonda meanwhile is kind of due an update with the latest carbon version released over 3 years ago so why would track label this the Mone well it seems likely that it’s switching towards a one bike to do it all approach just like specialized has done by killing off the venge and what pinell has done since well horse and cars does that mean that we could still see a new am then well it seems pretty unlikely to me at this point in time TR has already said that it plans to cut some SKS in its lineup for efficiency and getting rid of a whole bike would be a very effective way of doing that so if you think that Tre usually has two layup options for its performance bike six or so sizes each of those in four colors or so that’s 48 bikes to make and store just to have one of each configuration in stock Matt our Tech editor though thinks that the amonda name is too strong a model to let drift so let us know what you think will happen in the comments section below one thing that is for sure we’ll find out when this bike officially releases so what do you think of T’s new bike is it what you expected and would you buy one let us know in the comments section below if you haven’t already then please give this video a like to stay up to date with all the latest cycling Tech subscribe to the channel and we’ll see you next time

  1. E-MON-DA, MA-DO-NE, DO-MA-NE … NOMADE, DEMONA, MODENA.
Maybe they throw a dice with these six letters on it and that's how TREK's marketing gets new names 🤔

  2. It's an emonda with a madone sticker on it. I don't think they are going to cut that madone. They just had too many versions of the same bike that you could get with a large variety of different spec levels.

  3. Shame, emonda was on the short list for my next bike.
This is going to double the price of it and I don’t want the stupid iso flow thing.

  4. Best comment on the topic, stolen from another thread, I am quoting: “Might be the new Amdone, as in amdone making a bunch of frames’ 😂😂😂😂😂

  5. I wanted into the Trek ecosystem, but their ordering delays and mind games are irritating. It's almost as if they don't want people to buy their bikes. I ended up getting on the Canyon bandwagon instead.

  6. Well I like it and I would buy it, if I hadn't just bought a new TCR. Then again I've said I wouldn't buy another new bike before and, well, that ultimately wasn't true……😁

  7. I think it is exactly what the sticker says madone and emonda so going to be a one bike solution, light aero bike, would also fits treks situation at the moment since it cuts cost in production and development and also is s new product where ther is always someone to buy the newest stuff

  8. Many people wouldn’t like this change, but I do actually! It may be because of the beautiful team decals, but new Madone seems to be the most elegant bike in current world tour scene.

  9. It’s a mix of emonda and Madone to make it one for all bike like Tarmac SL8 and Pinarello Dogma F
So emonda front and rear madone and then the stiffers to the rear is a lightweight way to make it light instead of aero and all I know it should be around a total weight of 7.4kg so that’s quite light with that number it’s without 2 chainrings it’s only 1 and it’s not with bottle cages

  10. If Emonda is cancelled, we have to wait for better times,…and better times one day will come and new Emonda will come as well (apart from Domane and Madone of corse😊)

  11. Be willing to bet it’s a one bike to rule them all strat. Why would you maintain inventory and spend millions on molds to gain a vanishingly small aero advantage for one of your marketing endeavors.
