The Mecklenburg Railway & Technology Museum in Schwerin suffered a tragic fire. The fire caused extensive damage to the exhibits and some of the locomotives from the museum’s collection of Deutsche Reichsbahn memorabilia. For this video I was granted special access to film in the museum which currently remains closed. You’ll see what the museum now looks like after the fire and see what happened to the steam locomotives inside, as well as the entrance area to the museum, it’s Deutsche Reichsbahn archive, Deutsche Reichsbahn model railway and DR memorabilia. It’s a tragic sight, and if you’d like to help the museum repair and rebuild, then you can donate with the information on their website here:
    http://www.mef-schwerin.de/

Also, proceeds from advertising on this video will be donated to the museum. That said my videos normally get between about £1 and £5 in revenue. But every little helps and I hope this one will get more 🙂

    1. A real shame this happened. Sad to see what was lost but also thankful several of the locomotives can be cleaned, reaparied and salvaged. I remember about 20 years ago there was a bad fire at the Deutsche Bahn museum in Neurnberg. They had a fire in one of the exhibt halls and several locomotives were badly damaged. Some were repairable. Others they had to locate suitable replacements. Thats the worst with fire. Some things are priceless and cant by replaced and even if its not destroyed a cosmetic or full restoration can be costly.

    2. Thanks for this.
I tried to click on the link but dont understand German . Hopefully by sending a superthanks you can forward it on for me.

    3. My laptop is probably being over-cautious but it describes the link for donations as "not secure". I therefore wonder if you could consider set ting up an intermediary way of making donations? It is just a thought.

    4. Such a sad sight to see hope they can get the donations they need to start repairing the damage, theeV100 loco you mentioned was a mixed traffic loco for secondary and branch lines
