Hey, I’m Tommy and welcome to the ‘Two Wheels Tommy’ channel. In this video I collect my first motorcycle, a lovely Honda CB125F – The nerves kick in a couple of days prior to collecting it as it dawns on me that this will be the first time riding a motorcyle on the road without supervision, after doing my CBT a few weeks ago. Can I remember how to even start it? Will I be a nervous wreck? Will I crash?! All good questions, and only one way to find out. Enjoy!!!

This series will follow my progress from my CBT all the way to getting my full bike licence. Gaps along the way will be filled with product reviews for items I will use along the way to see what works and what doesn’t, and what you really do need, and honestly don’t need! You can also expect some beautiful rides out around the beautiful Isle of Wight where I call home, and shopping for my first 125cc motorcyle…

It would be great to have you along for the ride so smash that subscribe button, and I will see you next time for more 🙂

this is my first solo so let’s see how this goes hey hey welcome back to two wheels Tommy today is Tuesday morning and it’s a great day today kind of uh I’m off to collect my first motorbike it’s a Honda cb125f uh it’s about a 20 minute drive or ride away from my workshop so I’m just going to get a bus uh where I’m going to meet the guy who uh is selling it and then he’s going to give me a lift to his house otherwise it take me two hours to travel about four miles anyway uh got my kit got a little camera on there as well little GoPro so I’m going to hopefully uh be able to if I’ve set all up as best I can uh film my first bike ride uh back to my workshop it has been more difficult than I anticipated I gave the guy a deposit yesterday and I tried to send over the rest this morning my bank have blocked it because it’s like being flagged up so I spent 20 minutes on on the phone to them trying to get that sent out uh and they they’re only telling me they’ll only release it once I’m stood there with a bike in front of me good god making it bloy difficult but anyway if that’s the way they want to play it I’ve got no choice but to conform so anyway let’s go and get this bus exciting okay KCK stand okay here we are uh just picking up my CB1 125f uh this is my first solo so let’s see how this goes right let’s remember how we do this okay first okay first kick stand his back okay right we are doing it oh Jesus this is nerve-wracking oh my gosh I’ve got a bit of a trek now so uh let’s see how that goes guys I’d be interesting to hear in the comments how you’ve all got on uh with your own first little jollies on your bikes okay I got to think about what I need to do cuz it’s way different to driving a car it’s been a few weeks since I did my CBT so let’s indicate uh let’s go down through the gears oh that was a bit abrupt and unplanned good gosh this is nerve-wracking K 30 okay we’re in fourth gear now we’re doing it it is a little bit windier than I would have liked but can’t do much about that and we due a lot of rain over the next uh week so uh it was today or sometime in the future got enough fuel good good we’re doing it okay let’s get the fourth gear I’m sure it’ll all come back to me but uh just want to get back to be honest with you excuse me good so far cancel that indicator bit of fourth gear action there what the speed limit here I think it’s 30 okay done I fill that wind other than the wind what a lovely day for it oh that side wind is horrid okay 4 maybe it was for we let’s get out to speed oh that’s side wind luckily most of it will be a headwind but for now side wind right National speed limit let’s go 50 pretty much there some nasty uh potholes just here change down the gear might get my fat bottom up this hill hopefully I’m not cheesing off anyone uh behind me okay indicate drop down again it’s getting third gear let’s go see what’s going on here okay okay I’m not going to have to stop which is good excellent cancel that indicator get a bit of them up this big hill that is windy probably mentioned that a couple of times bang on 4 that’s good I think I got a nod then okay we’re coming at 30 Zone here oh that’s Savage win [Music] come on don’t stop me oh God right I’m way more nervous about this journey uh considering I was a solo glider pilot at the age of 16 uh this is more nerve-wracking but we’re doing okay there’s no reason why that would change so let’s keep it on it this okay there is a hill start with traffic lights here so hopefully I can get through that cuz uh I’d rather not do that but uh if I have to I have to you know breaking the speed a little bit got a big truck behind me okay 40 let’s get up this hill Oh it’s red [Music] okay I was hoping this wouldn’t happen but at least I’m at the front and not on that steep bit of the Hill okay second let’s go think this is National speed limit okay it’s coming back to me so that’s good down on behind me 40 years so let’s chill it’s not a race God that wind is blowing you all over the place my right wrist my throttle hand is starting to hurt a little bit by the way I hope the sound and the uh camera is okay uh I’ve had to set it up as best I can without having a Mot bike to ride so uh if it’s a bit off I shall show it in good time but not now come on bad boy up this hill still got 6,000 R so it should be all right struggling a bit third let’s go no nod from that dude right let’s see what’s going on here it’s the 30 people whiz across this round about without looking so not to he all good let’s just say everything’s a little bit robust uh my gear changes and stuff but uh that will come with time bit more gentle but uh just need to get the job done on this ride I think breaking the speed limit a bit my hand has gone a bit dead now this is my neck of the woods I live in this part here but I’m going back to work so let’s get on and uh another 10 or 15 minutes of this fair play if you’re still sticking around it’s good to have you on board though bit of a mental back up I guess oh that was a very abrupt gear change but I do need to get up this hill check those mirrors every now and then I could do with ad justing in that miror for sure but uh doing good I’m keeping up with traffic God that wind nearly sent me a foot to the side of where I wanted to be then 30 down there see what’s going on there it’s good I got a different car behind me now so I’m not cheesing off the same person phrases okay we got a red light up here see if we can uh oh it’s gone green will it stay green who knows don’t need to indicate cuz I can’t go anywhere other than that way so go that wind is Savage yeah like I said this is not uh how I my first ride to go but unfortunately I’m very tight with time at work and particularly at weekends as well and um solid for the next week is 40 mph winds and heavy rain so it was either today or don’t get it just yet and uh I’d rather have it sat in my unit than someone else’s place [Music] so come on get a move on don’t help me out you’re going to hold me up aren’t it well I’m going to have to stop that’s for sure okay let’s uh go down into first well how do you think it’s going I think it’s going right hopefully my GoPro is still recording good little work bit of slow moving clps control going on here should have gone the other way actually this is uh way hideous and slow going down it hot rate going I’ve had to stuff my beanie hat down the front of my jacket and all the paperwork for the bike cuz uh there’s actually nowhere as far as we can fathom out on this bike to put stuff so uh that’s just the way it is okay there’s no people coming okay relax good bit of second gear action going down to the uh Coast here bit throttle now he’s going in there hopefully he’s not going to hold me up what’s this Wally D watch out for motor man okay all good it’s a bit of third gear we TR to hold people up very chilly out it’s literally in the last couple of days changed from um changed from summer shorts and t-shirts constantly to uh cold blooming cold okay right on the final stretch now back to my unit that’s second not neutral okay it is all kind of semi-natural just got to think about what you doing and uh each time you do it I suppose it gets a little bit easier that’s third they’re a bit jty my gear changes to be honest I’ve got these big boots on they are motorcycling boots but can’t really feel what’s going on cuz they’re so thick and they bulky you know so I’m glad this F’s got all the gear indicator on it there fourth gear now see what’s going on there don’t break the speed limit numb hand okay you can see all the wind blowing the leaves off the trees and stuff don’t very often uh see white horses on the sea there cuz it’s the solent so it’s protected by the coast on the North and the South so it’s quite unusual to see it rough like that okay who we got behind no one close so that’s good going to drop a gear here cuz after these BS we got some Savage a Savage Hill so let’s get that done hopefully no one stopped around here cuz there’s a junction okay let’s gun it up here 30 still keep an eye on there and need are not grips are tight and also these gloves are quite tight as well they’re making my hands go a little bit num which isn’t helping and also when I ride my mountain bike I don’t wear any gloves at all I just don’t like it but you got no choice really on here got a car behind me but I’m doing 30 so you have to wait mate what a pleasant drive drive not even a drive is it ride it would definitely take some getting used to okay hopefully no one around this corner I need to turn right here we good go around the roundabout not over it so that’s good bit of double indicator the other way and then cancel sweet right 30 along here but Mega bumpy I got to say considering I got a fat ass this bike is uh super comfy oh throttle up rather than down by accident hopefully won’t do that too often okay lots of Road works okay I don’t want to say so far so good but I’m going to because uh actually all of my butterflies which I had I don’t want to say they’ve all gone cuz I haven’t finished yet but this uh it’s not a bad length it’s not a real short one around the uh car park or around the village or something doing a proper ride to get from A to B so uh all good these manhole covers slippery in the wet right what we got going on here is say red is red so let’s go down again third and again the [Music] second first again okay deep breath you can do this okay straight on for me okay second gear let go it’s 4 here so let’s Zoom side wind again can never tell if anyone’s nodding or not is it too early for me to nod can you nod from day one let me know in the comments good yes perfect indicate off here cancel that and get higher gear professional yes what’s that 40 go quite a twisty one this one okay looks like I got a geriatric behind me so they shouldn’t be giving me too much grief 50 let’s have a bit of fifth gear action okay well I haven’t really shown you my bike yet I’ll do that a later date but um it’s a 2019 CB oh what’s going on here uh bicyclist um CB1 125f uh and it’s in pretty good conect it’s done 12,000 mil according to this so uh still quite a baby but it’s uh definitely running let’s go past this guy cancel the indicator this car’s turning right so I need to make sure I don’t get bunched up with all this which I am going to I think second gear oh okay good good good let’s gun it again cuz they’ll be zooming off of the diesel fumes thanks mate four one more to go wo okay that is it fifth gear hog in the center of the road let’s get the 50 Shere yeah 50 baby right I think there’s only one more set of traffic lights for me which is good [Music] okay so far so good and I’m not being going to be kept waiting come on Grandad let’s do it well nearly stole it there but not quite okay left turn all good I have to say the gear changes have all come back much more um naturally than I thought they would let’s cancel that indicator yeah we’re good all right let’s get out of here I think it’s a 40 here into a 50 there we go fifth gear would be a bit too optimistic here with my big bottom so uh let’s stick in fourth and see what happens okay let’s get out to speed oh I forgot to uh drop the revs when I changed in fifth end but uh hopefully no one heard I’m not going fast enough I’m now welcome to the olive white 4 it’s a bit of a hill there so I don’t want to get caught out let’s go third gear up this bad boy into a 30 yeah so how do you think it’s going I’m very pleased I got to be honest got very numb hand almost there I wonder how long that’s taken probably 35 minutes I guess got a little mini roundabout here indicate left here just so people know where we going there off cancel that indicator got behind me need to indicate right here that’s good all good no one there behind me little bit of bike action car action here so I’ll wait for them check there’s no one there to cut around me all good cancel the indicator Bosch right no doubt someone to try and cut me up right at the end here my flipping hand is so numb you did this on the uh practical part of the CBT because I was holding on too tight to the grip so let’s cancel that now and I am just down here so let’s see how we get one of this holy it is done let’s turn this bad boy off check it neutral there you go what a relief but that actually went much better than I thought we would right let’s get this inside is that going to fall over feels like it is but probably not right come on excellent very pleased with that well well there we have it I have finished my first solo ride after my CBT and what an adventure that was I have to admit um when the guy picked me up and he was taking me to his house to go and collect it I was literally uh pooping my pants to be honest with you um I don’t know why I just felt a little bit nervous um you know as I mentioned in my video when I was 16 I was still at school and I was a solo glider pilot um so I’m not adversed to being in a situation where you just got to crack on with it you know and um it was just more more nerve-wracking than that to be honest with you I don’t know why I was so worried about it because obviously I’ve been driving since 1999 so I’ve been driving 24 years now um you know no problems at all but it just really was the butterflies we get into me I guess so if you know what’s going on there do let me know in the comments but um I was a bit over not overwhelmed I want to sound dramatic but um you know I just spent a lot of time thinking about it and I think the problem I had where I did my CBT um and then I didn’t have a bike already um you know I didn’t want to feel like I wanted to rush into buying a bike and get the wrong one um because that would have been silly uh so I wanted to just make sure I got a sensible bike and all that sort of stuff um but unfortunately that that process did take three weeks three and a half weeks or two and a half weeks whatever but either either either way in between me finishing my CBT and stepping off that bike it was a good 3 weeks or so before I actually got on another bike and you got to go through everything in your head about you know how do you turn it on uh is a kickstand in the right place you know and uh you know checking all your mirrors and all that to check that to you can see properly out of them I forgot to do that in all honesty I tried to do it on the move and it wouldn’t badge and I thought I’d rather concentrate on what’s going on in front of me um because uh don’t want to go out the back of someone but um as it happened on the on the ride it was fine um it’s been a lot of time worrying about it beforehand but actually doing it was was absolutely fine um you know I was worried about like someone someone would put out in front of me and I wouldn’t be able to stop in time because my brain can’t calculate quickly enough what I need to do in me hands and all that sort of stuff um the kind of thing you just do without thinking about it in a car but it’s all new to you so you keep your distance from people in front of you and I have to say it was absolutely fine no problem whatsoever um and actually I was enjoying parts of it as well I like the bits where you get to whiz down uh down the road at 50 mph or whatever um purely because you haven’t got to keep stopping and starting um and that’s always a bit of a worry I suppose when you’re starting out uh but this is where my journey starts I guess uh I’m going to get out my bike as much as possible we are in for a period of poor weather it was absolutely wanging it down all day yesterday um so I will wait until we got some fair weather and then I’ll start getting it into uh getting it to pay for itself with post office trips and stuff um but I will give you a good walk around my bike at summer stage um and also where I live on the a of white we got some beautiful roads particularly over at the West uh west of is of white Military Road and all that kind of stuff it’s absolutely stunning so there’ll be some Little Adventures out and all that kind of stuff um so do stay tuned if you’ve got this find to the video hit that button it’s just down there cuz it won’t cost you a penny it helps me out helps other people to see my video and um yeah why wouldn’t you want to if you got this far do it now please right so anyway leave a comment below give us a like the rubbish that everyone says at the end of a YouTube video anyway see you soon for more catch you [Music] later

    1. Not too shabby for your first ride out. I'm sure by now you have many miles under your belt. Keep on enjoying the wonderful motorcycling life. Cheers

    2. my first solo ride was lucky to be late at night with not many others on the road, picking my first 125, up followed by riding to work and back for a good few weeks around half 5 am and going home around 6, which was definitely busier but still good to gain confidence.

    3. Excellent effort considering its your first run mate!
Couple of tips: hold the grips as if there's a butterfly between your hands & the grips. ie no effort.
Also: Observations — Far, middle, near. Far, middle, near, Rear. Repeat as you go.
You've got a great attitude for riding. ENJOY 😊

    4. Forget the people behind you and don't let them pressure you. If you let them try to pass, they will try to pass you at the least safe time and kill you. Let them wait.

You're the boss – take the lane – the speed limit is a limit.

    5. You will ❤ bikes forever now, never leaves you 😊 Well Done passing your test, always remember no one ever sees bike, even when there looking directly at you, especially junctions 😮 so always be ready for the unexpected, my last bike was an SV1000 and always rode expecting muppets behind the wheel, only crashed twice lol knocked out both times so invest in good gear and always replace helmets once you slide along the ground 😂 be safe and live long and prosper 😊😊

    6. i'm about to do my closed circuit test, and watching these types of videos reminds me why i'm subjecting myself to doing exams, which i hate 🙂 great vid

    7. Love this video… did my CBT back in February…aged 57. Almost bought a Honda but went for Yamaha ybr as it was the type I'd done my cbt on. First ride… stalled and couldn't get it to restart. Found out later there was a fault on the clutch lever and it wouldnt disengage the safety…as a result I couldnt restart the bike by just depressing the clutch with it in first. At one point ended pushing the bike to a safe spot to figure out what was going on. Your first solo was rather more successful… 😅. All sorted now… just need loads of practice.

    8. A few weeks ago , I’ve got my first bike (Kawasaki ninja 125cc) delivered to my home from a shop. My first ride next day was exiting and scary 🙂 it was harder then I thought it’s going to be. Anyway I still love it

    9. Thanks for sharing, mate, how are you doing in the meantime? I got the smallest possible license, can’t even go outside of Germany, got a 125 last year and only now am starting to really get comfortable with riding. I didn’t participate in traffic for almost 6 years before, so I had to relearn reading all the stuff people do on a regular. Took the 125 to the Autobahn as well, but that’s not for me, I could only get 108kmh out of it and the wind was already trying to pull my helmet of my head. Been doing a maximum of 70km ride so far, but I really want to try to go on a couple days of a holiday ride this year. Maybe next year I will find enough courage to do the big bike license. Have a good one, be seeing you on the street!

    10. Recently completed my cbt on an automatic and went and bought a manual (keeway superlight) i know exactly how scary that first ride is grats dude 🎉

    11. Just come across your channel today i ride a Suzuki sv650 i remember my fist time riding my bike alone. I did the direct access course so did not do the cbt ride around, I also was so nervous at first but the bike I bought was 2 hours from home by the time I finally arrived I got used to it. I think you did well good road position

    12. My first solo ride was when I was about 15 years old. Asked a mate if I could have a go on his BSA Bantam. Of course, I didn't come back for ages. I'm still riding at 75, but even now, I am very wary of other road users, particularly cars waiting at junctions.

    13. Nice vid – will be me soon. Cbt booked 1st June, big bike taster a couple of days after then aiming for full A via direct access a few weeks later. Aiming for 1st bike to be a big bike though so that’ll be an interesting first solo too!

    14. 47, no road exp in the UK aside from CBT. buying motorbike in a few days. Shitting myself. Glad im not the only one😂 well done mate you smashed it! Gave me the confidence as well

    15. I remember my 1st solo ride lol.
All the anxiety came back when you set off .. was like me passing all over again.
You did well though, only thing I did spot from your mirrors as that your arms look extremely straight. Dip down at the elbows a bit and relax your arms. I rode the bike like it was a push bike for a few weeks after passing but when I loosened up a bit the ride was a lot more enjoyable and less stressful on the wrist and hands.

Did well dude .. was enjoyable to watch 🙂

    16. Just bought myself a Kawasaki Ninja 125 & I’m bricking it going on the road. I’ve had it nearly 2 weeks and not even taking it off my street yet!!!

    17. I remember my first solo ride after picking up my CBR125 & I absolutely shit myself 😂. Rode about 10 minutes down the road to my grandads place and was shaking with nerves when I got off the bike. As soon as I hopped back on it though they went away and I really started to love it!

    18. I've had my cbt since 31/12/23 passed on a auto and sold that Monday and got myself a 125 tnt was very nervous as.just got on it and learnd myself just from watching YouTube

    19. I've been out on my beneiil tnt 125 3days in a row since I've had it the only thing I haven't done yet is go on A roads. But ha e takeld dry and wet roads

    20. great going there mate, was thinking about you the other week wondering where the mtb stuff had gone seems you swapped pedal for motor power, just passed my CBT about a week ago and hadn't touched a motorbike since I was 16 some 28 years ago, I bought my bike before the CBT was booked which is a 2021 Honda cb125f love the freedom of 2 wheels have even had to filter on the way to work all ready due to the Cornish tractors, making it a plan to leave the Alfa at home for all journeys bar family trips hopefully within the next 12 mths I will be looking to book my DAS, Any way great to see you smash your first ride and will catch up with all the other vids, Safe Travels

    21. I recently 'failed' my cbt because of poor clutch control, especially on manouevers
I think my issue was that my instructor kept telling me to keep the revs 'busy' while controlling the clutch
and i think what would happen is when I released the clutch fully, obviously the throttle/accelerator takes over, which makes me lose that slow control
i have been looking at videos online which prove you can do clutch control WITHOUT keeping the revs busy,I understand that going up a hill I will need revs.
my question to you is for my cbt, should I ignore my instructor when they say keep the revs busy, , if not, can you give me tips to keeping revs up and controlling the clutch, for example, do I keep the clutch around the biting and do you continue to keep the revs busy throughout the whole maneuver or can you let go of it
