last week I was out in newor and I saw absolutely loads of people using a higher bike which made me think is it better to take your bike with loads of added Hassle and stress or is it better to hire the bike that you want I am in love with my own bike and I spent a lot of money on this bike and a lot of love has gone into it my own bike is not that good heing restway is 34 at the back which helps with the big climbs it wasn’t my bike fit I had a bit of shoulder ache neck ache so this year I thought i’ bring my own bike so four years ago I came with a couple of friends who had been before uh rented a road bike I didn’t have a road bike at home and it was a total game changer for me so since then I absolutely fell in love with cycling went home got myself a road bike and I’ve been coming back every year since the logistics of getting a bike box packing it up the risk of damage to the bike getting at the other end and doing the same in Reverse it’s far out wide by spending a few Bob and getting a hard bike New Yorker is a great place to Rend bikes having said that I am going to buy a bike box and bring my bike over from New Zealand next time we come to New yor

    1. Never! Its just too painful.
I hired a bike once, in San Francisco to ride over the Golden Gate Bridge. The scenery was fantastic, but the ride was terrible. 10 minutes in I was hating the bike.
If you are going on a cycling holiday, take your own bike and avoid disappointment and discomfort.

    2. Probably depends on how much you can get close to your proper bikefit. If you can roughly get the same geometry and bring your own saddle it's probably alright but renting a bike and only having issue sounds like a bad vacation.

    3. Im a disgusting peasant who loves his fixed gear when landing in vulgar metropolises. One travels rather often and has spent an incredulous and befuddling amount shlepping the glorious Woman (it's a she and she's sublime) around the globe. If it is worth it then nothing will suffice but the original. Renting a bike is like prostitution: Never advisable and will most certainly lead to horrors unspeakable.

    4. I have been riding in Mallorica for 40 years. Until about 15 years ago it was hard to hire a bike. I prefer to hire the bike and set it up when there. I dont miss the hassle of packing up my bike.

    5. I like my bike and I want to ride it in nice places.
I'm used to the way it handles corners, bumps in the road.
It's set up for my fit and with gearing I want.

I get all the downsides, but i think it's worthwhile

    6. I love my bike in Aus, but hired a lovely bike in Italy for a Giro tour this year. Couple of upsides 1. No damage, 2. After the Giro tour we drove around Eastern Europe for 2 weeks and didn’t have to lug bikes with us or worry about theft.

    7. I'm not a roadie but I'm 2 metres tall and I'd want a 62cm frame bike. What are my chances of getting a suitable hire bike of any kind in that size?
