good morning and welcome to today’s ride today I think I might be in a spot of [Music] bother today’s ride is going to be another little loop around my local area it’s not going to be particularly long maybe 30 km or so but it is going to be pretty tough [Music] my first challenge today is edney’s Lane 2 and 1/2 kilm at about 4% now I climb this quite a lot so it’s not too bad it’s one of my favorites but this isn’t the real problem what we’ve got coming up is a real local toughy strikes fear into the hearts of the local cyclists [Music] that’s Edy’s Lane on and just like last week it’s saying the road’s closed but I know it’s [Music] not the next challenge is the climb up to the top of Mercury now normally when I make my descent off edney’s Lane The Climb profile and the crew kicks in telling me that I’ve got 4.5 km of climbing to do but normally I get to the batt and ball which is about a kilometer away and then I turn left and start descending again but today I’m going straight over and I will be doing that 4 and 1 half kilom climb but would you believe that not even that is today’s toughy [Music] [Applause] this is the tough part of the climb up to Mercury now 7 8% it just goes on and on got another 1.2 K to go [Music] I me that climb is always tough I call it Scotland Lane but I think it’s called something else on a map don’t know what but from here on in there’s a little bit of a descent and then the fun really starts [Music] BL me I have to take this descent very gingerly today because of the wind it’s blowing an absolute holie I’m literally in danger of being blown off the [Music] bike okay so here is today main event I can reveal its harvesting Lane and with a name like that you’d be forgiven for thinking that it it’s all nice and benign and easy kind of conjur up images of Rosy faed little school children taking apples to school for their Harvest Festival well I can assure you it’s not this part that I’m on now is just the start of it and it’s all nice and benign it’s you know 2% nice and easy but that’s going to [Applause] [Music] change I haven’t been up harvesting Lane for a couple of years now and my thinking today is that over the last couple of weeks or so I’ve been feeling quite strong so I thought I’d take the opportunity to test myself on something pretty [Music] testing well this is the point where those sweet little Rosy faed school children singing All Things bright and beautiful turn into the spawn from hell this where it starts to kick up up now 1 kilm to the top so I swapped over to the little go three camera on my chest cuz I don’t think I can hold the camera and ride at the same time I don’t want to look at that clim profile cuz that’ll just demoralize me just got to calm down a bit and turn the pedals 11% leveled off to 6% makes it a little bit easier that’s almost a breather this is the tough Bend 12% 13% 15% 18% oh my word that was tough harvesting Lane is never easy particularly the uh 18 19% section just before you get to the top there that is just a killer I managed to do it a minute slower than my PR but the provisor there is that the computer kept on going into pause uh kept dripping sweat onto the onto the screen and it would just paus and I try and started again so I don’t know how accurate that is but I managed to get to the top without stopping without walking and yeah I don’t want to do that again in too much of a hurry but the great thing about going up harvesting Lane is the ride home basically 10 km all downhill and on a nice day like today with a Clear View I can see the is of white and the [Music] soland the more Eagle eyed of you may have noticed that I’m riding my canondale today and the thinking there is is that this bike’s got a lower gearing than the TR even though the tr’s a much faster bike I thought I’d go with this one today seeing as I was going up some horrendously steep climbs the even more Eagle ey of you may have noticed that I’m wearing a new cycling outfit so a massive thank you to my friends over at santic for sending that over they’ve sent me a fantastic Jersey this one I’m wearing a fantastic pair of shorts short s socks gloves and even a pair of shoes although they did send me the shoes a couple of years ago I’ve been wearing those for a while absolutely love them so uh I’ll include a link to the santic website in the description below here and then you can go and check out the kit for [Music] [Applause] [Music] yourself there we go that’s today’s r right d and dusted a very tough 28 km and 400 m of climbing in the Bank of Fitness that’s quite tough for one of these little local Loops I think I really deserve that cup of tea when I get in now [Music]

  1. well done mate, kudos to you… I wouldn't be able to that climb but to be fair I haven't cycled much in the last year at all so my fitness is not the best now… even when I cycled regular I would struggle up that type of hill. I tip my hat to yer…

  2. Well done Leonard. That climb looked tough. I am now back home. Malta was 26-29C and lots of sun, and I have a wonderful farmer's tan. Vancouver is 14C with rain. It's feel so much nicer now, though I could do without the rain.

  3. awesome, really strong riding Leonard….Edneys, Mercury then….I was so scared I had to turn away!! – I could hear those school kids singing then it all changed 🙂 you earnt that cup of tea afterwards, hopefully with some chocolate biscuits too! cheers

  4. Great effort Leonard! Harvesting lane is no joke and the road surface certainly makes it extra tricky in places. I hope you availed yourself of the cafe at the top of Butser Hill having put in such a strong effort? I climbed Harvesting last weekend and rewarded myself with a nice cold drink 😁

  5. 18%? I think the steepest part of the Nordschleife is similar. So if you're interested in cycling a few laps during "Rad am Ring", you're ready to go 🙂

  6. Well done Leonard. Having watched your videos for a little over a year now I think you would really enjoy spending a couple of weeks on Vancouver Island cycling around. Even my commute has some really tough hills through similarly beautiful terrain.

  7. I live 20min ride from this hill. It's a killer climb but the top is stunning, should of popped for a coffee at the hut by the mast.

  8. As cyclists we all know what it feels like when we conquer climbs … well done! … as I said on a previous video, your recent increased cycling activity such as South Africa and then not stopping since has returned you to 2020 ish when I began watching your channel. Full of energy once again and very talkative and excitable … the enthusiasm has returned … but we’re only human and have dips in energy from time to time … good to see you back and inspiring us all 👍🏾

  9. Hello Leonard,
I’ve not ridden up there for about 15 years… I was out and about in the lanes with the PCC today… I could not convince them to ride up Spelthem hill in Hambledon… an enjoyable video, thank you.
    Take care
    Paul,,
