welcome to France now behind me are the sudow quickstep buses and we’ve just spotted something rather interesting on Remco evol’s very bling bike not only does it have a crazy paint job we’ll get on to that in a minute but it also appears to be rolling on some as of yet unreleased roval Wheels let’s go and take a closer look so it was initially the silver hubs that Drew us towards Evo’s new wheel set but on closer inspection it appears that they also have carbon spokes that would be a first for ral’s road wheels we’ve seen many high-end wheel Brands such as hunt syncross kadex and scribes name just a few offer carbon spoke wheel options in their lineup and in fact quite a few Riders will be racing on carbon spokes here at the Criterium de and indeed at the tour to France why might you want carbon spokes well the primary reason over traditional steel ones is to save some weight in fact some Brands claim that they weigh as little as 65% of traditional steel spokes which can save anything from 50 to 70 G per wheel roal up until now has steered clear of carbon spokes on its road wheels and the alpinist clx2 and reped clx2 that most of the sudal quick set team are riding use DT Swiss aite steel spokes with 18 in the front and 24 in the rear that reped CLX two wheel set has a claimed weight of 1,520 G which although is competitively light is far from the lightest in the Pro Pro pelaton it’s understandable then that Ral may want to shed some of this weight these new wheels that we spotted appear to not only have carbon spokes but also a redesigned Hub given away by them being silver rather than black as on the CLX two wheel set it has long been rumored that the specialized sponsored World Tour teams have in fact been using the first generation reped and alpinist wheels rather than the latest offerings despite what the stickers say because they forgo tubless compatibility but are a few grams lighter and that kind of highlights the fact that the world’s best demand lower weights rather than just being all about Arrow the rims on these new Wheels we spotted appear to feature the same Rim profile as the CLX two wheels and were fitted with latex inner tubes now this is by no means proof that the new layup hasn’t been used but it is a pretty good indication that roval hasn’t gone hookless to save further weight like envy and zip so what will the new Wheels be called well the wheels on Evan’s bike are labeled Ral reped CLX team which will come as little surprise for those of you who also follow XC mountain biking roal recently released a mega light 1,190 G control SL team wheel set for those mountain bikers people which also feature carbon Spokes and silver Hub similar to what we’ve seen being used here for pro riders such as evapo to be riding the new Wheels in races we would suggest that the wheels are nearing their launch date a date probably before the tour to France which starts at the the end of June now if Ral is to follow a similar strategy to its team mountain bike wheels then we can expect only a limited run of the wheels to be available to the public and at a premium price a £500 increase over the standard version something like that before we take a look at the rest of Evan Neo’s bike hit that subscribe button because trust me you don’t want to miss out on the rest of the unreleased cycling Tech that we’ve spotted here at the Doan did someone say new bike H so what about the rest of Evo’s new whip let’s be honest it was always fairly unlikely that evapo was going to fly under the radar here at the do but it’s now even less likely with this very chrome paint job let us know what you think of it down in the comments section below specialized says that their design team won’t sacrifice performance for graphics so this bike uses a new process called PVD or physical vapor deposition which apparently adds less than a single gram of weight to create the molten colors effect yeah I know you wanted to know more too well spash has told us that the frame has been spun around in a vacuum chamber and then an alloy is vaporized and injected into the chamber cool stuff or maybe just marketing talk either way I think it looks sick other than the wheel set edap Paul seems to have not made too many changes to his setup since he received this s Works tarmac ahead of the 2023 Glasgow World champs this 52 CM frame is fitted with the Ral reped integrated cockpit that’s also custom painted a Shimano duras r92 group set a Zer M setback seat post verts custom painted and a 3D printed s Works power saddle which isn’t custom painted the bike is currently running a 544 to chain set and an 1134 to set something that the sudow quickstep mechanics told us was by far the most common setup rather than other than for Sprint and TT stages we also noted the use of 165 mil crank coms a growing Trend amongst the world tour Pros the new Wheels were Shaw in sworks Turbo cotton tires with latex inner tubes as specialized sponsored teams continue to Buck the trend of going tubeless on dry stages they only use them in the wet like many of the pros Evan Neo’s bike is set up with a direct Mount deria hanger and his sl8 matched the rest of his sudow quickstep team with the outfront computer Mount and chain catcher both supplied by team wolf tooth let us know what you think of Evo’s latest build in the comments section below as well as whether you’d be interested in carbon spoke wheels as always if you enjoyed this content then please give it a like subscribe to the channel to stay up to date with all the latest cycling Tech and we’ll see you very soon see you later

    1. Hot? This is a Conflagration🔥🔥🔥 The silver/chrome in this edition is burning images old school steel frame in my head. Bring it ON!

    2. I’m more keen to learn about the current world champion’s TT bike setup and what they are doing in addition to the bike now that he can’t do head sock shenanigans.

Did I hear that gearing right? 42-34 at the lowest? Good lord that is crazy high. Pros are on a completely different level. Good thing there is very little above 10% gradients in this race because otherwise that is absurd to be trying to pedal with those low RPMs at high gradients even for a pro.

    3. Surprised to see Evenepoel rocking 165mms on 54-42. I'm sure he used to roll 170s. 165s sounds like a lot of torque going on there.

    4. Even the most sophisticated racing event aka Formula 1 use mostly bare carbon for…? Weight saving. I’m surprised if a bike company (which is absolutely of far lesser sophistication) can make ‘weightless’ paint 🙄

    5. Didn't you watch the Giro? These wheels were all over the place. Alaphilippe won a stage on them and Rodriguez rode to second on them.

    6. Roval is perhaps the most high-end conservative wheel manufacturer. It insists on hooks, medium-depth rims, and non-carbon spokes. I also like its clean, understated look.

    7. Loving the “paint job”. I switched to 165 crank arms last year and I’m so happy I did. Find it interesting to see what the Pros are riding, doesn’t influence what I buy though.
