Classic Yorkshire Limestone and a Grade II listed viaduct at Appersett

[Music] hello again welcome back to the Yorkshire Dales this time currently right at the top end of wolfdale we have ridden this bit of the road before but in a mile or two we’re going to be turning off into a lovely bit of York here called langstroth Dale so we’re just dropping down uh into the very top into the W taale near cray passing through cray in a moment and some nice waterfalls there not visible off the bike cam but uh I’ve had me word for it once we through cray and hopefully if we can avoid this car uh we’re going to be turning up onto some very minor roads so not be able to give you road numbers but uh definitely need to consult the map so here we go we’re going to um take a a Right Fork now uh towards Hub home there weren’t very many signs there at all but uh just to take my word for it and we’re dropping down towards the river now and the river is actually the river Warf juvenile River Warf uh starting up in uh langstroth Dale which is where we’re heading so here we now coming to the Hamlet of Hub home this is a beautiful part of the world I haven’t really tattled on about the the rocks or the scenery or the hydrology or anything but it’s time I did you can just see the river down there on the right that’s the warf and um up here in langstroth Dale there some classic British caves um strands Gill Pot Springs to mind up in the woods on the right um not quite yet in about a mile or so but uh we’re getting into langstroth Dale now and it’s a lovely lovely livestone down and we’ve managed to pick a a week day where it’s relatively quiet it’s actually not not bad today weatherwise uh a little overcast but um it’s very pleasant from a temperature point of view makes a change from some of the awful wether we’ve had this last few months so it’s nice to be out on a reasonable day and we dropped down now towards yaken we so we’ll pull over in a mile or so and uh see if we can get some uh more panoramic shots for you okay I think there’s a a spot coming up so we’ll pull over [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] no [Music] [Music] right that’s so short under way again I’m we’re going to be following uh the upper WF Valley here in langstroth Dale for a a couple of miles till we get towards outer Shore and then we start climbing up over the fs um in a northwesterly direction eventually to drop down into to Wiley Dale but uh that’s a a while away yet more caves uh here rising or Resurgence just back there on the left and uh plenty more caves marked uh on the charts as we uh right through this lovely bit of Carboniferous Limestone 300 million years ago this was a warm tropical sea the UK of course being uh a lot nearer the equator 300 million years ago than it is now based on last winter I think it might be somewhere near the North Pole but anyway here we go so not too far to water Shore and then we’ll be uh as I say climbing over the hills to um towards Wiley Dale and hes big old fancy house here on the left in in order to show I’m not quite sure what it is but very Grand starting climbing now for okay we’ve turned North again now we’re going to start dropping down into Wesley Dale so we’ve got a very nice uh very nice running with a very nice fist on our left uh coming up shortly on the right there’s uh weather fell very uh popular with hand gliders when the wind dire is uh is right I’m not sure what it is today but there we go and some quite uh quite narrow bits here as we passed between the farms and the barns heading now down towards uh Gil and hores now Brian’s got the option here of straight on through the Ford or around to the right and staying on the tarmac so which one he’ll do uh he’s avoided the forward oh well perhaps I don’t blame him quite pleased really we’re going left but right would eventually bring you onto the 604 near laan uh going towards laan for us though we want to head the other way so uh it’s down into hores and although um we’re going to nip for a a cup of tea in a bacon buty um as far as you’re concerned we’ve just turn left onto the uh the sedur road the a604 now where possible we like to include a a bit of a a listed Monument if we can on our bike trips and we’ve got the opportunity today this one was unfinish business we’re going to try and do it the other week when we went to um another Viaduct but unfortunately uh life got in the way so this time we’re going to uh um put that right right and we’re taking a left uper Lane here that actually follows the line of the Woodale back and it’s not too far up here that uh we come to yet another grade two listed structure in the shape of the appet viaduct now [Music] [Applause] [Music] h [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so after a fairly gingerly doing uh u-turn on some of that uh that gravel but back down the Lane towards the a684 which we’re going to join just briefly as we cross the Woodale back here in appet they’re not too far along here we’re going to cross the the river UA where is in wydale here and uh we’re going to turn right and head back in the direction of ASG along the northern side of Wiley Dale hasn’t got a road number but uh it’s quite a nice bit of Road and uh not nowhere near as busy as the a684 so usually usually the best option in fact here we go now now you’ve seen most of this before so I think that’s the point I’m going to say uh say thanks for watching please like And subscribe and uh look forward to seeing you on the next Moto Vlog bye for now [Music] [Music]

    1. i've been on this road and over fleet moss into hawes more times than i can remember, mainly cycling since the early 70's but now on my motorbike, many happy memories, in fact i did it just last week as part of a 180 mile loop, and got glorious sunshine, and i never get bored of it, so thanks for the upload, it's nice to see it from someone else's perspective. 2. Thanks Bill, good to see somebody else enjoying Langstrothdale. I've ridden the road from Hawes to Buckden a few times on my travels and met almost no traffic on it, mind you it was always in early spring or late autumn. A beautiful place, the contrast between the wide open views on top of Fleet Moss and the ride along the river in Langstrothdale is striking. Great drone shots of the river too, I had to rely on standing up to get a view. Cheers, Mick

    3. These are great vlogs Bill and inspired my wife and I to ride through Langstrothdale over the weekend. Simply stunning countryside and we’ll no doubt do more roads which we’d never have thought to ride, thanks to your great videos. Keep up the geological commentary, it’s really interesting and is what sets you apart from other vloggers,
