A postmaster’s concerns about errors in Horizon were dismissed as “unfounded”, the inquiry heard.
Post Office investigator, Robert Daily, questioned Peter Holmes about a shortage of more than £46,000 which was discovered during an audit.
Mr Holmes, a sub-postmaster from Newcastle, said he had “absolutely no idea” why there was a shortage but suggested Horizon may be at fault.
He said: “Unless it’s the Horizon that has let us down, there is no one who has stolen £40,000. I haven’t got it, it’s not in my bank account… I’ve spent too many years in the police force seeing things go wrong to start stealing money, I really do not know.”
Mr Daily later said checks were made and that the postmaster’s concerns were “unfounded”.

as it happens Mr Daly um your evidence about the searches and investigations you conducted to um as you then thought as you told me discover where the money was they were quite thorough and yet you found nothing now in the light of that did that not give added Credence to Mr Holmes suggest question that this was generated by the computer as opposed to being real not of the time so right just didn’t cross your mind as a possibility not of the time so but how does that square with your duty to investigate lines of inquiry which are raised before you did you think it was so fanciful that it wasn’t even worth bothering to look at it no that wasn’t the case sir no so what did you do in the absence of any um success in discovering the whereabouts of the money what did you do to investigate whether in fact there had been a loss I think I’m not really quite sure how to answer that so I mean well did you do anything sorry did you do anything yes we interviewed Mr Holmes he admitted to false accounting all right thank you if we could go down

Robert Daily, I say your name daily as one of the criminals in this outrageous INJUSTICE.
Today….right now as I type this, we are hearing Vennells speak at this enquiry. What this enquiry should be telling everyone is that this sick, shocking, evil cover up was DELIBERATELY perpetrated by many inside the PO…………AND outside !!!
Nothing short of lengthy jail sentences for many are a must !!!
It is very clear that Sir Wyn knows that the P.O. witnesses are all lying to the inquiry. I expect his report will be damning and call for police investigation.
Robert Daily should do prison time for his malicious prosecution.
The judicial system needs to deal properly with these fraudulent and vindictive cretins. There are many vigilantes who risk taking the law into their own hands if the judicial system tries to protect these cretins from due process.
The least defensible position possible.
If These individuals do not serve prison time, the government and the judiciary will find themselves with major civil unrest.
It’s similar to Hillsborough and many other scandals. It needn’t have happened if errors when spotted were properly acted upon, and if guilt of SPM wasn’t assumed without evidence. So it was incompetence compounded by bad procedures which became a big cover-up. Absolutely disgraceful
Post Office investigators were given bonuses for every Horizon conviction
Sir Wyn is a brilliant inquisitor. His gentle unassuming manner hides not only a razor sharp intellect but an ace BS detector.
Unbelievable! He did absolutely nothing. 'The computer said, NO'
Why is the head of enquiry not present at the enquiry?
Daily was corrupt
He just said at the end that “Mr Holmes admitted to false accounting”. But I don’t think that’s correct.
Look at these incompetent fossils….
Laziness, ignorance, idiocy and a culture of do as little as possible seems to be the way POL have and continue to act. I hope every Sub Postmaster who has ever had any hassle with the Horizon system will see proper justice very, very soon. An absolute National disgrace. Everyone involved in this needs to be looked at with a view to securing criminal proceedings against the real crooks in this story.
What a clown if 10 or 15 of post office s money was missing you'd check that out .but 900 had to be a computer error
Apparently it will be at least a year or maybe longer before the cps decide on charges. I really worry there won’t be any or at best very few
Jail him absolutely liar 🤥
I still want to know WHY Fujitsu employees were going into the post masters’ systems and altering figures?
How did all these evil people manage to take charge of the post office?
They used and abused the innocence of others to cover up their incompetence, so evil 🤬
Great question. Who hired these ignorant thugs/gangsters to “investigate’ the clearly honest hardworking loyal sub post office employees…? They’re just incompetent amoral idiots.
What is the point of this enquiry? Will any of them be arrested, charged and convicted?
