Mopeds and teenage boys have gone hand-in-hand since the 1960s. But in the last year UK BikeLife culture – where young scooter riders upload videos of themselves wheelie-ing down motorways and through industrial estates – has exploded, with the scene’s leaders picking up thousands of YouTube and Instagram followers in the process.

These British riders are beginning to receive international attention, not least from Baltimore’s notorious dirt bike club, the 12 O’Clock Boys. Although they may lack the CCs of their American counterparts, they’ve done a good job of making up for it with charisma and a dedication to the underdog of the two-wheeled world: the humble moped.

In London Bikelife, Daisy-May Hudson lets a nostalgia for the moped gangs of her teenage years get the better of her and travels to industrial estates on the outskirts of London to meet with the underground stars of the UK BikeLife scene. After spending some time at northwest London’s Ace Cafe – an iconic hangout for bikers and petrolheads – Daisy is taken along to one of the group’s big ride-outs, where hundreds of boys take over the roads with their mopeds.

    1. Damned dope doc. I had yamaha jogs growing up since 15, I'm 38 now and just bought a yamaha vino with the Minarelli 2stroke motor and started moddung it. Talk about cheap fun and 45mph stock out of a 49cc motor. Also saves gas which helps when it is $5 a gallon.

    2. Peaky Blinders are planning to eradicate the Hells Angels and the Bloods by the summer of 2023. You must save your gang by boycotting or by killing your local Peaky Blinders as soon as possible. They think the members and chapter leaders are too stupid and weak to understand and to prevent it. Prove your worth!

    3. All fore skilled wheelies ect but not on public roads it's seems they think it's their public right to endanger other road users and that is selfish.
Riding between lanes of cars right over a pedestrian crossing = danger simple as.
I love speed and all forms of vehicles but kill yourselves that's your choice but not others.
Take the job of a stunt man you got the skills and put them to some real use instead.

    4. The romanticising of a scene which leader/founder confessed to have started it by doing robbery is probably one of the reasons why moped gangs became such a huge problem in the UK/London. As a young person and also a rider for almost 2 years I can say that social media status, robbery/theft, social disturbance and unsafe riding should never be taken as something cool or something that should be respected as this video helps it to be seen. I like some of Vice's videos, but this one is the worst I have watched so far
