welcome to beyond the coverage I’m Chris horer in today’s edition I want to talk about the 2024 torto France because the jural detal you just finished we all watch t pagar win six stages there dominating the jro and maybe not even breaking a sweat well is the torto France already over that’s what we want to talk about up here on today’s beyond the coverage not to get mixed up with beyond the podium like NBC but this is beyond the coverage because it’s the Chris Horner show okay well now when we’re talking about t pagar what did he do at jural did tell you we saw him win six stages I already told you that we saw his team UA team Emirates held held together we’re under pressure almost never throughout the race because inos Road baring Victorious Road Forum we had a little bit of other help with kofidis Road and of course moar rode one of the stages too so UAE team memores were never put under the knife they looked solid there’s no doubt about that they were the best team at the Jal to tell you it was still their B team just like I told you guys at the beginning of the Jal and now I’m telling you after the jro it’s still their B Team why was it their B Team most important thing when you look at the jro dalala and you look at T paga and you see his Mountain super domestique well he only has one of them his name was Rafael Micah that writer was super important to Tedy Pacha but had he crashed at some point in time at the jro which we saw multiple teams especially when you’re talking about Israel premere Tech they finished with less than four guys or four guys half 1 te was gone out of the race I didn’t actually check before I got on the air right now to see if one dropped on the final days but I know they were down the 50% throughout the juralia so if you’d had Rafa M crash and SL T paga loses Rafa Micah changes the whole chemistry at the jro then of course breakaways possibly go the distance if we look at to pacha’s team UA team mems throughout the jro we saw of course on stage one they weren’t able to bring the break all the way into the last and final climb as solid as T Pacha would have liked he went up the last 1.5 km on stage one Jonathan narvas kept on the back wheel there of Tad pagar and that kept T pagar from having the race leaders pink jersey from stage one all the way to the finish of the Gerald diala that’s how important tactics are if you’ve been in the car and you race tactics a little bit different on that stage one because I think T pachar certainly we know has the form to have won stage one and dropped Jonathan NZ but the way that he went into that last final 1.5 km allowed Nas that little bit of extra help to stay there on the back wheel of T pagach had we had Rafa Micah come into that last 1.5 km with Borg with domen Novak with Gart and they’re drilling it into that last 1.5k instead of Rafael Micah getting attacked all over the place from eight Riders attacking them before going in the final T pachar could have easily had finished the jural daal in 2024 while wearing the pink jersey from stage one all the way to the Finish I mean it it’s it’s a basic it’s a no hitter right it’s a no hitter in the playoffs I mean maybe it’s maybe it’s not the biggest of the biggest race because the Tor of France is the biggest but we all know we’re cycling fans that the next biggest outside of the Tour of France is the jro and the tour of Spain these are the holy Grails that’s why they’re called grand Tours so tactically what I’m trying to bring up to you guys is that if UAE team mem had their a team there they would have controlled the race all the way on stage one they would have lit it up going in that last 1.5 km T pagar most likely gets R of Jonathan NZ somebody will argue with me but I’m pretty confident saying it here publicly to the 880,000 subscribers almost 80,000 subscribers thank you very much maybe there will be some more here so make sure you like And subscribe it’ll be 880,000 at the end of this video but I’m pretty confident to believe that t Pacha should have had the race leaders jersey all the way from stage one through the whole of the jro daala that would have been basically a no hitter at the jro toal would have been unbelievable performance and instead of six-stage wins if I remind you he’ had seven so but as a whole UAE team members they got the job done Rafa mic was superb Dolan Novak went above and beyond what I expected him to do I knew he would be good I talked to Yanni brovich he’s Slovenian was my old teammate he’ given me some inside information that Dom Novak was going to be good and of course we all watched Le best on Le to know why Doman Novak form is starting to come up we saw him good there he performed even better at the jro there was no weaknesses in terms of each individual Rider there at the jro they all performed about the way that I thought they would but it was still their B team because they bring sprinters and because they didn’t have a second writer like Rafael Micah was in terms of being that dominant going into the climbs now a lot of people will say well Chris that was their a team they were the best they were the best at the Juro wasn’t their a team you only have one super climber his name’s Rafa Micah that’s as simple as that that story is put to bed now when we start looking at other the other stages at the jro and you’re looking at Ty pach performance he’s what made those six victories so impressive because remember when he wins stage two an pulling the whole day that day everything’s brought back together it’s the individual time trial then we started going in PR to Deo his team did a fabulous job gr sharder Borg Vega stackle lean they brought it in after after Borg got back onto the front of the group he got dropped early got back on the front through the valley down the small desus wi the proo Bor told T Pacha his work is not mine that we want to win this stage so bjg went in there went full gas with vagar stock lean brought it all back together Rafa Micah controlled everything up the climb T bachan easily in that Sprint finish amongst the GC favorites but when you start looking at how strong the team was later of course when we get into the mountain stages it was Tad pacha’s performances in the later Mountain stages when we’re talking 15 16 and certainly 20 where T paga himself had to close the gap up to the Breakaway guys that what makes the team a team versus a B Team you’re like Chris they dominate they dominated but T pachar was the guy that had to close the gaps domination a teams bring everything back together if I take you back to the sky days they’re drilling it on the front they got five guys on the front of the last climb they’re bringing everything back together Chris FR Bradley Wiggins Garen Thomas even well maybe not not not Egon Bernal he kind of had to go out and win that race in 2019 at the torto France but the other three guys they had teammates that brought everything back together then their leaders would launch things win but they never had to bring somebody back like Ty paga did at to Jal that’s why it’s a B team it’s undisputable it’s a B team for sure when we compare it to what’s coming to the tour to France with t Bacha but if I can rewind it a little bit and get back on script here to pachar in terms of dominating that J what does it mean for the Tor to France is the Tor to France already gone and over with well there’s one of the comments and I can’t remember what day it came but a few stages back at the jur the tell you and one one one commenter said hey Chris the differences between the best is .5% and I commented back to him and I said you’re right it is 05% but the problem here at the jural the 2024 jural daala is that t pagar didn’t have the other three guys that are that 05% so that’s why we saw the big gaps when we started looking at Garen Thomas’s form every time Tyler Pacha attacked what’ Garrett Thomas do I can’t do it he looked back over his shoulder said set up backed off the throttle waited for help to come now that was intelligent racing I’m not knocking the British writer Garen Thomas he was an super intelligent when it comes to looking after himself not so intelligent putting his team right on right on stage two for Jonathan NZ and then get beat up by T pachar So as a whole he can’t he can’t dictate his team he can’t control his team and tactically intelligently but for himself gner Thomas sents of course his Podium at the last tour to France couple years back when it was against Jonas Pho and T pagar that year if you guys were watching The Butterfly Effects and Beyond the coverage I told you guys garrant Thomas has to go into that Year’s tour to France just follow the wheels of Tad pachar and Yono the whole time do not attack unless you see a for sure weakness he never really saw a weakness with the exception of that stage there going up cold de grenan we all remember that right T Bacha loses the torto France two time defending Champion loses Jonas Fino while wearing the race leaders yellow Jersey garant Thomas sees T pacha’s hurting goes up the road drops Ty pagar but of course still loses the second place on the podium as the tour to France but finish his third so T pagar when we’re talking about having bad moments it happens but garrant Thomas had to see that bad moment he saw it he attacked he got some time of course Ty Bacha dropped him later in the final week of the tour to France in the mountain stages got that time back on Garen Thomas but where I’m getting at here at the jur to tell you Garen Thomas was not as good as he was last year year so Ty Pacha beats Garen Thomas and sometimes I saw some of the comments where they said well Primos rogl just barely won last year’s J of Italia and garrant Thomas was second and so sometimes a lot of the comments say in there well the Slovenian the other Slovenian Primos rogach just barely beat Garen Thomas versus this year T pager wiped Garen Thomas well that’s true but last year at the jur to tell you Primos Rish was not 100% until we saw him get into that penultimate stage that individual time TR now his form had returned throughout the beginning I believe he was sick at the beginning of the Geral TI had some crashes some incidents happening his form never really peaked now why do I want to bring that up well yonas Fino crashed at stage four of the bass country in 2024 and a lot of people think that yonas Fino shouldn’t be at the tour to France I’ll get to that story later let’s stay on topic here at the jro T pagar waxed everyone Danny martinus Garen Thomas but Garen Thomas wasn’t on the same type of Fitness that he was last last year and on top of that t pagach is 100% where we saw Primos Rogas really only reach 100% I’d probably say the day of the individual time travel maybe the day before but the Slovenian the second Slovenian Primos rogish wasn’t at his best till late that’s why the time Gap was so close Garen Thomas’s form had dropped a little bit you can see that easily in this 2024 season because of how many times he’s looking back over his shoulder versus actually being able to stay on the wheel of the guys attacking and being able to drop all of the other company at the jro this year he was never able to drop the other company really I mean you see Danny Martinez was better finished second on the GC Garen Thomas third but you see many times where Ben o Conor of course ag2r Val Valentine parent on the stage 20 he was marvelous and we see Garen Thomas always sitting back that tells me that Garen Thomas form was not as high as it was last year not talk about night and day but we’re talking five Watts 10 watts Here There and his his Fitness on each one of those m stage to me from sitting on the Chester Field always look just a little bit less than it did last year T Pacha is 100% on form now what does it mean when you see him win by 10 minutes T pagach over the rest of the competition we don’t really know because as I said already earlier 05% which I agree with the commenter that when you look at the competition the best in the world they are that close 1% difference maybe not 05 but 1% difference and maybe even less when we’re talking about the four favorites so when you look at T pater’s win winning margin there winning two winning by 10 minutes winning six stages you can’t take anything into this year’s Tor of France from that unless unless and this is very important unless you’re Tad pachar or you’re the trainer and the director sportifs there maybe not the director they might not know how to read the power meter there of T Pacha but the trainer will know how to read T pacha’s power meter hopefully T Pacha understands what his power meter reads and let’s say he’s going up the last clim Monte graa he’s still doing 410 Watts average and 420 Watts whatever it may or may not have been at that moment he can compare his power numbers from what he’s done in the past that past Year’s tour to Frances passed wins this year in 2024 passed multiple wins the kids got wins all over his resume so he has enough victories back there against jonis vineo against Primos roget against Rim Co theol to know what those numbers were that he’s pulling at the Geral toala but keep in mind when he’s pulling those numbers up Mon graa and he’s dropping everyone is Bridging the Gap up there at pelari bridging in 800 met maybe Bridges up the Gap there at pelari so fast and then wins the last final Mountain Stage of jro the ti remember he wasn’t pushed to the Limit Up over three or four climbs they weren’t chasing wild van art throughout the whole stages of Every Mountain M stage and every middle stage of the torto France the competition here at the jro to tell wasn’t as high so even though they had the highest average speed ever recorded at the jro the ti in 2024 they not chasing wal van art there’s a difference no matter what you look at the average speed this year’s J to tell you w vanard is not there I guarantee if you go back to the 2022 tour to France when they’re chasing wild van Ard all over the place as the Belgium Wonder kid is flying up the road throwing the attacks all over and drilling the brakes and UAE team members is pulling back there 100% on the first climb the second climb the third climb and the fourth climb well the power meter is always going to read just a little bit less on the last Mountain St St versus when you’re at the jro your team’s not riding the front you’re not worried about attacks you’re not stressing you got plenty of calories put in the body you hit the mon graa your team’s dropped you off five kilometers to go you got one pelari in the front you accelerate hard T Pacha didn’t have to use much energy at this year’s J to tell you because he is more than 0.5% better than the whole competition behind him when we get to the torto France it’s going to be a different story I’m not saying the kid Ty paga cannot win the Tour to France he is the number one ranked Rider the butterfly effect there is no doubt about it he is can do everything do not misunderstand what I’m saying in this video T Bacha the number one ranked rider in the world there’s no doubt about it can he win the Tor France of course he can can he dominate like he did to Gerald daa absolutely not we are getting ready for what is going to be one of the most remarkable Tor of Frances in 2024 that we have ever seen in a very long time with four riters all on about the same page now you guys now you guys were saying well what about yonas Fino jonis V goes back on his bike now I’ve seen some stuff on beyond the podium by NBC not beyond the coverage here on Chris horer but beyond the podium where it was TJ van Garner and of course his Bob R chatting back and forth TJ van Garner were saying well I don’t know if jonis Fino should show up at the tour to France if he’s not 100% of course he show up at the tour to France he is the two-time tour to France back-to-back Champion if he has anything close to 100% he absolutely starts to tour the France because TJ you never know when your form will make that jump to 100% if yonis Vino can start the tour to France and I can use an experience of w vanart if I take you back to a couple years to the Tour of France when w vanart started after he had the appendex taken out he wasn’t so good later he kept getting better he kept getting better and he kept getting better and then of course he went on the win stages and he was magnificent and won on the Shams so while van art has proof there that you can absolutely keep getting better and better the only thing that yonas fineo needs to remember is he’s got to come in maybe just a little bit sharper because he needs to get through the first few Mountain stages that start early in the first week of the tour to France he has to survive those and then if his form is somewhere at that 90 95% level it may show up four days five days one week into the torto France it might show up just a little bit after that but it’s got to show up somewhat decent by the time he gets to the first individual time trial otherwise you’re going to be dropping too much time to Primos roget Remco the pool and of course the number one ranked rider in the butterfly effect and Beyond the coverage T Pacha so stay tuned don’t get too worried about what you was saw at the jro it really means nothing unless of course you read the power meter from T pagota and it was something spectacular and it has to be extremely spectacular than anything we’ve seen because the jro this year did not push TT pagota like past Tor Francis did with yonis fineo and of course the viz M Lisa bike Team drilling it all throughout every stage and pushing his team to the limit so there’s going to be excitement at the torto France do not let a lot of the hype you’re you’re reading and you’re watching in other places on YouTube channels don’t let that fool you guys any all four of these guys especially the top three best in the world they will arrive at the Tour of France they will be spectacular and the only doubt at all right now when I’m throwing this video is going to be whether or not if yonis Vino can R there at the top top shape that we saw it last year especially when he won that individual time trial and put over a minute on everyone we’re talking about solid time on W vanard and TIY paga that kind of form we might not see but he doesn’t necessarily have to have that spectacular form but 05% below that that will probably still give him a shot winning the Tor France too so yonis Fino don’t listen to the other other guys out there if you’re coming anywhere near 90 95% for at the start of the Tour of France you definitely start and if you want to pull the plug throughout the first week or if you lose time you can always pull and then go in the ball to SP you then no one’s going to hold against you like And subscribe guys I’ll see you guys on the next beyond the coverage brought to you by chriso next Edition coming up real soon as we know dolphin a starting soon too so like And subscribe I’ll see you guys real soon

    1. I like Tadej’s chances to win the TDF, even more now, because he wasn’t challenged at the Giro. He can do a taper with some altitude work, then come into the TDF with some flying form. 🦋👊

    2. IF Pogacar can get a handle on his GC rivals in the first 10 days and manage properly, the conversation will switch to doing the triple. Why? With his opposition on the back foot due to injuries this will be his only year to make history. (Barring any crazy crashes).

    3. I’m not sure that UAE will be chasing back a not 100% WVA… he’s not Superman. Also JV is way off the form of last year, and UAE has a stellar team.

    4. Hey @chrishorner, I was flipping through the Youtube videos and saw the bearded Bob "St. Nick" Roll and TeJay VG on an NBC show called "Beyond the Podium"! What's next? The Peacock Effect?!! 😅 Theft is the best form of flattery!

    5. I am very skeptical about the form of Evenepoel and Roglič. Anyway, we'll see in Dauphine. I think the only one who can beat Pogachar is Vingegard in his peak form. No one can predict how Jonas will be in July.

    6. I'm sticking with Pogi. True enough Pogi's winning odds may go down taking into account the level of competition he will be facing going into TDF, am still pretty confident he will hold his own.❤🇵🇭🚴🚴🚴😊

    7. Chris how do a team share winnings in a grand tour eg. You have the leader that win stages and GC and there automatically wins the most amount of money. But does he then share that winnings with the team members that helped him

    8. Chris how do a team share winnings in a grand tour eg. You have the leader that win stages and GC and there automatically wins the most amount of money. But does he then share that winnings with the team members that helped him

    9. Vingegaard will attend and win again. Pogi will start to suffer again at the end of the second week and into the third. Vingegaard will only improve. It will be a repetition of last years TDF. Remember, Vingegaard didn’t even have to go deep (against Pogi) on Col de Loze or the the last mountain stage last year. He just played cool. He has more in the tank and Pogi simply can’t match his physiology and ability to recover during a race like TDF. Forget about Remco and Roglic. They won’t reach the podium.

    10. This will probably be the first TDF since 1983 that I won't be watching. Cycling is so ridiculous now. With such superpowered performance from 2 riders while everyone else looks like cat 4 riders.
Not to mention how you have to jump through hoops and buy a different yearly subscriptions for each individual race.

    11. Hi Chris. Just out of interest sake. Around when must Jonas go to altitude camp in order to be in good form for the tour. I saw he was doing training rides in Mallorca which can't be ideal prep for the tour.

    12. I think since the other teams were already racing for 2nd place changed the strategy.. thenother teams would have put more pressure on UAE if they thought they could have Cracked Tadej Pogacar

    13. Well, I certainly hope that you are right Chris, because this TdF looked mouthwatering before the Basque disaster. However, I personally have Pogi as a pretty huge favourite. He is in the form of his life (so far) in 2024 and it didn't look like the Giro win took much out of him. But crucially, I just don't see Jonas being anywhere close to 100% and I continue to believe that Jonas is the ONLY ONE who can beat Pogi (and he needs to be in absolutely top shape to do so). Primoz and Remco are great riders and I'm sure they'll create some excitement in the race, but ultimately I just don't see a scenario (outside of crashes) where either of them beats Pogi. In the end I think Pogi wins the 24 TdF by 4-5 minutes. I hope I'm wrong and we get a close race instead.

    14. Only guy who will beat Tadej is himself .He could in theory makes some spectacular mistakes or get taken out with illness or a crash.

    15. Watching your vids since Tour Last year. I Love your analysis of Team tactics and am really looking forward to watching your videos of the Tour 24. Thanks for your great content!

    16. Big Tadej fan because of how a races but the Anchovy beat Tadej in back-to-back TDF so he is still the favourite. Tadej will have to be more circumspect. Would love to see a Primoz win.

    17. Last year Pogi was ganged up on Stage X of the TdF and he snapped. It's impossible for one person to cover all the attacks, but hats off to Pogi for trying. This year will be different as he has a much better team. Lest not forget last year when Remco blew up spectacularly in the TdF. Its hard to imagine Remco, Roglic and JV in top form after that brutal crash. So they might initially give Pogi a run for his money, but Pogi will inevitably shut them down in the mountains to win the TdF. What I'm curious about are the TdF sprinters. The six flat stages will be a sprinters paradise.
      💯🚀🚂

    18. Let's imagine Vingegaard starts the TDF at 95% and Pogacar ends up winning TDF with 2 minutes down to Roglic (who I don't believe is as strong a climber as Pogacar) on 2nd place. Will Pogacar aim for the Vuelta afterwards to go for The Triple. The biggest historical achievement in pro cycling. The guy is in the form of his life and has been lucky with weak competition in the Giro and injured rivals in the Tour… This is the chance of a lifetime. Sure you can say he's only human and his legs will be too fatigued. But so will all the serious competitors, because they have all been racing the TDF. And besides that, it's not a normal person we're talking about. It's Pogacar.

    19. it all depends on whether Vingegaard will be there, and in what form.
Roglic and Evenepoel can hope for being left at 5min, instead of 10min like the rest

    20. I think you are understating how good a form Tadej is in. He is in the form of his life, no doubt. He rode away from professional bike riders like they were amateurs, that rode protected rides into climbs. He beat Ganna on the TT… Ganna!!! He took a stab at a sprint stage and Geraint could could barely hold his wheel on the flat! a former TDF winner!!! He rode like a man that knew he was invincible. That didnt have to save his matches. I think he will look to dominate early in the tour get a big lead so the rest start thinking about second place and takes the pressure of his team. The giro wasnt easy he made it look that way. And his contenders for the tour are all coming off crashes. He would need to crash into a hospital of contagious sick people for anyone to stand a chance. I hope he doesnt, his domination is a wonder that deserves to be seen. Shame Venegaard hasnt had that crash. I think Tadej wanted to beat him on a level playing field. (remember Tadej had a crash in spring last year and broke his wrist). Their will be question marks about that rivalry until the stars align for the perfect match up.

    21. Possibly Pogi will get a big lead (5+ mins) in week 1 to 2 as Jonas rides into form and progressively eats into Pogi’s lead in weeks 2 to 3 as Giro fatigue starts to tell on Pogi’s legs. The other two big hitters keeping us all guessing…. Now that would be a fan pleasing spectacle. That’s my best guess.

    22. If you ask mother nature, then Primož has the greatest advantage. You can't compete if you have broken ribs and a broken collarbone, lungs….
Tadej is exaggerating with his body again… but cycling and medicine are not mother nature…
