It’s about time we made it to a new country! Switzerland awaits in this episode! We tackle some climbing with mostly clear weather and amazing views all around. You may not have heard of Astano. It’s a tiny little village tucked up in the mountains near Lugano. I have a good friend who spends his weekends there (and any other free time he gets away from work when he’s not traveling!) and invited us to stay as long as we wish! Our week there was amazing! A few highlights are also included in this episode.

    Any questions about our trip or our gear etc? Ask away!

    ++The Adventure: traveling and riding our bikes around a bunch of different places in this world and visiting as many friends along the way as we can during this year abroad! woohoooo

    Awesome tunes from Epidemic Sound: “Liftoff” by Squiid ;
    “Victim” by Bassio

    [Music] alright time to say goodbye to our lovely talk to some other cyclists today and they said that we can go on the left side the left side I guess the west side because we saw in the map first that it was gonna be straight up we realized that it was tracking the mountain not the road there’s tunnels some really like okay tunnels it’s a really long time I may be not such a good idea they’re good so we’ve got our lights lights lights and we’re ready to go Trane’s of the nervous just mail [Music] really [Music] I think that would have been a little bit too steep to climb up it was quite an adventure they’re in the tunnel there’s the light [Music] how’d you like that a tunnel yeah it was I thought it was really fun I liked seeing all the other cyclist and I can’t have a bond in the darkness although it’s it’s lit all the way through but we saw it all our lights on back we got through the tunnels onwards to the ferry [Music] and now we go down now yeah [Applause] so many tours here Rio Bellagio and it’s a cute place but there is a crap-ton a tourist here all catching fairies and wandering about yeah so now that was probably the easy part of our ride those a warm up and a little bit of climbing how are inside the ferry and beautiful views all around once we get into the ferry it’s just gonna be straight uphill so have a little rest right until then [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] eating some last minute interview before we start funding chocolate [Music] yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] serving [Music] so it’s crazy we just went through this tunnel and then I think we crossed the border [Music] new country but you know you’re in Switzerland when you come into a square and it’s just like boats for sale so fancy [Music] or we’d have been going out and I’ve enough sour you’re fun find a bunch probably stop someone climbing to do yep and we’re headed to a Stano yeah Birnam stay with Morris we got to find a place to just started raining to the spring thing I guess [Music] crazy switchbacks we’ve been climbing so lush and beautiful this is the end of our scavenger hunt find Morris this place the wooden door to your right [Music] Frisch nice so excited I could just like fold this in half not the best pizza right now this is the best pizza I’ve ever had we’re in Switzerland but everyone here speaks a time because we’re right by the border and I feel like it’s really to Italy everyone speaking and we’re having pizza I’m finally gonna finish a pizza this is my goal only we’ve actually finished a pizza NP boys look at us weird when we asked for it to go Bob I’m not hungry big ride today empty plate I didn’t know problem it’s definitely worth the climb up here because now we’re just like you know tiny swiss village on the Italian border enjoying our little cottage space kilos thanks Morris Morris is an awesome friend that I made while living in New Zealand Darrin and I are packing and me packing getting rid of Isis all those stuff that we’re sending back oh my gosh that’s that’s gotta be 1520 pounds of stuff yeah remember that old adage like lay everything out that you want to take on the trip and then take half I think now some people say even take like a quarter of what you’ve originally put out that’s probably accurate so what we have now yeah live and learn our first climb we’re like what can we get rid of cuz we got we got some more big climbs coming up because now we are in Switzerland and Zee out [Applause] [Music] give us a point home [Music] probably been here for like [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah [Music] [Music] German tour understand that say smile so I see me Narayan fro an Angus tell what mine their fortune iTunes won and get suited in a night Austin around for you okay so this is step two on our little adventure today we’re gonna go hike up a small local mountain we are done with the gold mining caves I was pretty cool wintertime this would look a little bit different because it is an ice field for maybe playing some hockey skating around [Music] making our way this was the boundary line between Switzerland in Italy so it was all wired up before and I think that guard post – you look at this I am just on the ground now it’s like a web in there we made it up to the top all the way around the clea [Music] [Music] we’re learning German ingvar embarrass ginger like my barely gingers hair obviously this is how Morris goes to work that says this has pretty much been our workspace for the last few days just editing away and chilling out a bit we’ve got some few hikes in a few hikes that’s been a good week here in Astana we really like it thank you again Mara’s ovomaltine this is what you need if you’re cycling around just throw it in you could do it with water obviously milk is better really we find that we can buy a small milk and we’ll have it at night and then leave it in the tent or whatever it’s cold enough in the next morning at breakfast but this is just for snacking things lying around we’re leaving tomorrow so getting our stuff together I’m just having a little flare to my bag sometimes I feel like panniers are kind of plain you know just kind of basic I love these bags are great but they’re just so boring can I do a punk rock them who’s got some patches and this patch you got me in but I’m actually sewing got this patch on here added my little anarchy bicycle button I have some other patches but they’re really hard to sew on so I might have to wait until we get to try not have the the selling ladies help me have a cozy night it was raining outside and I thought I put on some tins and some patches on my bags mm-hmm we leave tomorrow just crazy we have a big pass tomorrow well the next day go third pass well we’re going not part of it yeah we’re breaking it into two days yeah cuz we’re wimpy mm-hmm hey we’re being smart we’ll get stronger I’m sure we could tackle it in one day we really need to do oh yeah sure probably making my bag less water pistols all right hmm it’s worth it more of it no I always have a dry bag inside but these are repelled water really well these are my axiom bags not to be confused with our cow which is crazy expensive these are great better if that’s not perfect add some personality

    1. it is quite safe to ride a bike in Switzerland, it is bike friendly country. It is a wonderful video and thanks for sharing your experience

    2. We hosted a couple of girls with Warm showers… multiple jumpers, jeans, shoes, laptops… I was wondering how long before they started sending stuff home…. 🙂

    3. Cycling in Italy is awesome. Bicycle road racing is the second most popular sport after football ("soccer"). So people respect bikers and protect them.

    4. Bringing back great ghosts you two…..
      We spent my 22nd birthday and Christmas with an incredible Swiss family up north in Wulflingen.
      They then told us we were invited to spend new years' with them down south…in?…..Astano!
      As you just came into town….the pink 3-story, 16th-century villa at 6:54 is their place… amazing memories, in a little enchanted hill town…
      Bonaventura🥂
