hello everyone and welcome to another video here on the psyching Dane ex Channel or if you’re listening on the psyching Dane podcast and today we have another one of our discussion videos and Patrick is back from his London adventures and yeah the beard is gone as well from my side but yeah Patrick blab recycling a one third of national cycling podcast T pater is the topic today and obviously winning the jir Italia in it’s spectacular fashion six stage wins the mountains Jersey the Malia Rosa and everything just absolutely incredible everyone saw this coming to some extent as well but uh it’s one thing saying it and it’s another thing doing it and almost 10 minutes of a lead as well so absolutely incredible but today we are discussing whether or not he is still the favorite for the Tour of France given so many writers have failed in the past with this achievement since Mark Pani in 1998 Hodor room Duman uh nid kintana ni like the list is endless but yeah Patrick Ty OFA what a season he’s had already yeah he has I think he’s going to be interesting to see really there’s a lot of different variables going into this tour with him coming off of airo he I don’t know it’s hard to tell I mean other than being Patu and feeling what his legs are like and being his coach or whatever and seeing his you know his training Peaks or whatever just how he’s doing after this jir we all thought I mean I thought we all seem to believe as fans that he was going to take it easier in this fight a week of the zero it depends if one of those victories he took just relatively easy for him like you want their full gas and you know he’s got four weeks until the tour hasn’t he roughly it’s about a month till the tour start uh his main competitors being well s of really know if yonas is absolutely going back still a little bit up in the air the words floating around seem to suggest that he is going to go and then we’ve got Remco and Ro glitch the other two big competitors who we’ll see in the doofan in like you know this week starts at the beginning of June so I think it’s going to be really interesting to see who’s going to come out on top there but yeah with pogy he’s got a super strong team and if he’s anything like he was in vro I think he’s going to be a hard n to C back that’s for sure so we might as well start with the team because you mentioned it uh we were quite critical well I don’t think we were critical of the team as a whole for UAE we were critical that Milano was there instead of branding Minal but nevertheless they got the job done obviously the tour is a whole different kettle of fish or whatever and their team is like night and day between the jro team this team is incredibly strong you’ve got adomat in there juo and uh J almea all of these guys could be a leader in their own right what do you think of the UAE TS team for this total France I’ve been watching by C for a decade now and I think this might well be the strongest Grand team that I’ve ever seen going back through like the sky era and stuff back when those was you know white pools Richie port and those kind of Heyday of the sky era I’d say that those teams come close to this but you like you say like if Pat’s Dons like the mountain domes have all finished on podiums of a grand tour AO ala and Yates and that’s just it’s just insane and then you got pollet who’s finished on the podium of Ru and then just like Salah COV and B like just nobody in this team is like a nobody everybody in this team is a serious by graer they could all in their own right like you say win not not a grand tour but they could all win some stage or be competitive in some stage race throughout the year it’s blows your mind just how good this team is I do kind of wonder how the dynamic is going to work with the Uso arm and Yates being the domestiques for Pacha whether it’s over almost in a way to have such like such a talented Team all just going to One race who’s going to be the first one in line it feels like kind of criminal to put I don’t know like a yo like third man from from from end doesn’t it like he’s you know a super good bike racer he won bass country this year but everything I presume is going to be Racha I presume that he is the main man and that the everybody else is working for him do you think that’s the same or do you think they got like a co-leadership going on and who would be the co-leader I mean didn’t they have a co-leadership of Adam Yates and Pacha last year as well the chaos loving side of me would love to see a bit of infighting like we had with aano with lot Armstrong in cono but I don’t think that’s going to be happening I even think like they had two Riders on the podium last year and obviously we saw b m or Y bisma at the time doing a one 123 in the Welter maybe this is UAE trying to one up yumo by doing it at the tour instead of the Welter I I seriously think this team could do a one two three at the podium given that yoris Bingle might not be in in the race and if he is in the race he’s not going to be 100% for sure yeah it’s true and then there’s also RIT who as I’ve said before rides around like he’s on ice all the time like he he is he is Crash prone and people can’t deny that he he crashes a little bit more than people than other GC Riders and even true didn’t get out of that jro un scaved he did have a a tumble or two and then even the just has his odd goes really well but then can randomly crack which on that was it Chima de laon 2,700 met holy that’s like screaming out for a a PO crack I mean the to is here that didn’t that stage didn’t serve him too well in the Welter last year yeah could you e get a one two three here it’s possible it honestly is given that every other GC leader has a question mark over them yeah you’ve got a serious amount of talent here and it’s it’s just crazy strong and even if Pacha does have a bad day or they decide like oh you know POG is actually not going very well they could still have a rider here who could be competing or be like pushing for for winning or at least definitely finishing on the podium which is super scary like they’ve got too they’ got too much T it’s it’s it’s a it’s just mental it is absolutely insane but it is still around B you think like having four Co leaders just isn’t going to work almea has appeared on this channel and he did say that they’re all for the title gapture show so yeah I just I yeah just look at it like we’re on whatever stage two stage three or the the stage you’re going to be at and it’s just like you’ll have the fre in front of pach and you’re like how many people are behind them are they just going to be team time traving up the mountain together that I just yeah it’s it’s a daunting Prospect I don’t think SE crus is going to be able to match the UAE Squad I don’t think remco’s team is strong enough RIT they’ll have well they RIT will have J hindley and blasa with him but I I don’t think any of them can really rival Adam G Almeida and Ao no I don’t think I can I think you could definitely end up with with a uee team where they’ve got three riders in front of Pacha and everybody else is just the leader of their team like it’s just going to be a blocked out like eight Man Group with four uee Riders and then like a nepool Rob glit and like maybe and AIS bike rider and maybe some Rogue person also there like it’s just that’s kind of where you’re at with this race Yi could very easily just win the team GC as well I reckon by just having that number of riders what about Pacha though coming off of this zero I’m still quite confident that he’s still the favorite for the tour because of just how good he looked there he wasn’t challenged like yeah he was just using at a training t for the to FR yeah even like that lavinho stage where it was going up to altitude it felt just so calculated like it was it was like you say a training ride it sounds bad to say for we competitors who are all just like on their absolute limit but yeah going up to AR at linho I that was a really important stage because I think there’s like at least three stages here where there’s the altitude you know you got stage four of the Gia you got the chimon I believe there’s one other one maybe after that stage as well I can’t exactly there eela 2000 stage as well I think there’s another high there’s multiple altitude finishes in this race so I think that lavinho St was really important for for coaching staff and to get an idea as to how paches goes altitude because obviously last year up to C law that was just a a really bad bad day for Pikachu it felt like really bad that was really like the accumulation of that crash from lbl for rist for kind of not optimal training going up to it about felt like the accumulation everything just came on to that one stage and it all came crashing down so that wasn’t a great assessment of how he goes at altitude so but based upon how he did at linho Holy Moly I think he’ll be just fine and with such a strong team there’s just no shot that anybody can put pressure on him either there then like nobody can put the gas on pikacha and try and you know get a team over the front and drill in you know drill the UE team get Pikachu isolated like how do you isolate a team where four of people have finished on a grandall Podium C like yeah just the saying it like that just really just emphasizes how strong the team is but I mean we’ve touched on the route a bit is there any stage other than the altitud stages that you’re saying I mean I’m answering my own question St bian Champion that bit of gravel is not going to catch him out for sure uh time trial stage we saw him beating Ghana so um I don’t think uh time tring is either is another weakness the only thing I don’t know we’ve never seen him do two ground tour back to back what like we’ve been touching on that’s going to be a new phenomenon for him that’s the only thing like 2011 Alberto contador was absolutely destroying the jro okay I know the history books now say it’s scaron who won but yeah at the tour it just couldn’t quite do something about it but there is the as that got is in a bit more fortunate position that always his key Rivals crashed in the same crash and they’ve all kind of been on the back foot rogl R were also involved in that crash with Bing ball so yeah that’s that’s thly asteris on that yeah I’m just I think back to when was the last time that RIT or Remco beat Pacha kind of on the road I’ve trying to think of like you know a grand pa scenario you know like it’s the fact I’m struggling to think about it it means it was probably a little bit ago at least his first ever grind tour was the only time Royal beating him ever since like about 2020 edition of the you know the pler Bell feed just feels like it was like an absolute Monumental day in more than one more than one way it felt like an absolute changing of cycling on that day like Ro glit ever since then has just been second fiddle to to Pacha every single time I I’m trying to think of like the silver lining of what to give the people hope you know what’s the possibility of there being competition here like do you think is there a way where Yas can be competitive here if he does go I don’t think so yeah I think the the one upside is that Remco although he was involved in my crash I I actually I want to look to it stra that’s how Keen I was he was back training after like two weeks after that crash and so I don’t think he had that much time off the bike I don’t think rogl had that much time off a bike either so those team might be okay but yeah it’s yonas that we’re all looking towards because he’s the only one who’s beaten pagat in the last few years on like a you know man for man up a mountain Jonas has beaten it with yonas you know completely unknown as to how he’s going at the moment it does make the situation a little bit Bleak but nobody on a star list seems like they’ve beaten Pacha recently which doesn’t bode particularly well for like a overly competitive RAC I mean I kind of want to see it happen because I want to see the Michael pement had of done here in the modern era he’s he’s out there in the conversation with Eddie merch the things he’s doing so no other writer in this current generation is going to be able to do this Ziro tour double other than T gaps set and I really believe that I don’t think Yas can do it I don’t think Remco Ro glitch whoever uh I think this is the probably the only shot we have at this jro to double achiev being done I mean this is a perfect segue into our final part predictions do you think tabag is going to win I mean if I say yes he’s not going to win so I’m going to say yes like because you said yes now I feel like I have to say no to try and like provide is he not going to win it um because I don’t know Mark salair is Mark is going to go unbelievably R and uh I I’m trying to think of how Pacha loses he’s just got to get unlucky or in those last few days because he like starts to finally feel some bit of fatigue from doing you know vro maybe just maybe on that you know stage 19 to the eela 2000 where you got three mountains over 2,000 M or the called laal where there’s four cat climbs or but really to the final TT like maybe just because those last three days are super hard and he’s got that first ground Tour on his legs maybe the fatigue starts to catch up with him and maybe at that point if RIT and Remco have had a you know a problem free race they could start to eat into pagat lead which I presume he’ll be you know he’ll have built up by that point so I think the the way that Pacha loses is hopefully Remco and robit don’t crash have a very have a smooth run into the tour from now on have a good do and maybe just maybe we could have a fight on our hands so how Pacha loses is that it’s going to be in those last three days I think those are going to be the absolute Crooks of it and I don’t think any number of domestiques can save you once if the legs pop that’s the thing but anyways on that note that is how are we going to finish this discussion and that’s it for this video/ podcast make sure to hit the like button subscribe to the channel here and why not check out Patrick’s own channel a recycling and the echelon which will be back next week and uh yeah with that thank you very much for listening and we will see you in the next one [Music]

  1. Only 3 men could beat Pogacar in a big tour. I have betted before the Giro begon, Pogacar would win the Giro with 15 minits before the second one. Everyboddy knew before the giro begon pogacar had no competition to win the Giro ! The only question was how much time he would have on the second one in the general classement… But we had a few nice discovery's of new riders and nice moments. Allaphillipe was magnificent with his attacks.
Remco wil ride his own tempo on climbs, last week of the last Vuelta Remco showed what he can do 😉
BTW everywhere Pogacar starts he will be the favorite ! he is not by accident the number 1 in the world

  2. As a cycling fan, I want to watch a close competitive tour. This means I want to see the best (Vingegaard, Pogacar, Roglic) at their best. I have to believe that if Vingegaard is not there or not at his best (Roglic too), then the victory will not mean as much. Also, just my opnion, but statistically, I would not take Pogacar to win against the entire field. Big sincere thank you to "The Cycling Dane" for your analysis and looking forward to your coverage of TDF 2024. Really appreciate you guys.

  3. Vingegaard is the only competitor that can really challenge Pogacar. That is, if he is fit enough. However, I believe that Pogacar is the #1 favourite, especially with an outstanding team that supports him. While everyone is focused on the four top favourites I believe and hope that Bernal can challenge. That would be a big surprise!

  4. Healthy Jonas is better Grand Tour rider, better ITT specialist, better climber, He is more professional (doesn't swim in swimmingpool before important stage) He has better focus on his goals, and …. beat Pogacar ? remember last gap between 1st and 2nd place during last year TDF, IT WAS KO.

  5. I’m a big fan of Jonas, however if he wins this tour he is 100% cheating. You simply can’t recover that quickly from the injury’s he sustained and be competitive in the tour naturally.

I don’t say this to doubt Jonas’s integrity as I believe he is a clean athlete, however we need to have a realistic perspective if he manages to win.

  6. What a question? Co leadership? That’ll never happen. Plus this years tour could be the best ever. It’ll even be better then 2022/23

  7. This year Pogacar will be in much better form as last year after his crash at Liege-Bastone-Liege. Also without his crash, the TdF would be much harder for Vingegaard as in the last 2 years, because Visma has not the quality of the last 2 years and UAE has now a absolute stunning team. And lets see how Roglic and Evanepoel are performing, maybe we will see an epic TdF!

  8. If not Tadej, who would really try Giro-Tour double? If not this year, when would it be? I’m totally prepared to witness Tadej and UAE rewriting cycling history. Allez!!

  9. With races in the past, Almeda and Yates had an understanding that Tadej is the sole leader. But tactically, the team will set the pace hard for his rivals and isolate leaders from other teams. Jumbo is not looking strong, soudal the same, bora is two years away from having a strong team
